Senate Republicans are scrambling to pass President Trump's massive spending bill.
Majority leader John Thune says there could be a procedural
vote to start debate at noon Eastern. The spending measure
is facing headwinds as Republicans race against the clock to
meet Trump's July fourth deadline. On Friday, Trump added, however,
that the deadline was quote, not the end all, and

(00:30):
that he knew some Republicans who are against the bill
in its present form are under a lot of pressure.

Com Well Your times twelve thirty, Three you're at home
With Gary sullivan And Bill. Richter he is the owner
of One Stop Pest, control family owned business right here
in The Greater cincinnati. Area he's my guest And. Bill
welcome at home With Gary. Salvyan how you, Doing, Hey, gary,
good good.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Afternoon thank you for having. Me i'm doing. Great.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Good what's the big? Buzz and bugs this? Year are bugs?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Bad, well of course it's pretty bad this. Year we've
had a really weird spring with all the rains and
now we've had a lot of heat and that type of.
Stuff so a lot of things are cold blooded and
they rely on external temperatures to uh get there and
get everything. Moving so, yeah it's kind of out and
about at this.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Moment, well if you don't, mind H and first of,
all thank you for taking the time to be. On
i've got a bunch of questions on summer past. Problems
they're going to start right here with my, Producer Joe.
Strecker he's let's get to. It, yeah he, Says he, goes,
Man i've got sweet ants AND i used to be

(02:26):
able to kind of control them with with a tarot
producting IS i can't get rid of these. THINGS i
even know they're coming in through my door because my
dog bit the. Ceiling it's a little tiny. Opening ants are,
gosh they're adventurous little. Critters they're. Smart AND i, understand

(02:47):
and you correct me If i'm wrong that they even
have a tendency to change their diet when it's cold and,
hot and so some things you're getting off the shelves
at the hardware stores aren't always.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Effective that is very. True ants are kind of, ectothermic
so that means that they're cold blooded and they rely
on external temperatures to regulate their. Bodies and what happens
at that point is when they have, warmer warmer, temperatures
it speeds up their, metabolism so it increases the need
for food and water and different. Things so they may need,

(03:17):
proteins they may need, starches they may need. Sugars it
just depends on the time of the year and what
that heat is doing to their.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Bodies And i'm assuming ants are tough this year for
that very reason is because of the yo yo weather we've.
Had it's, cold it's, hot and you know, ANTS i
think you have one purpose in life and that's together
water and. Food so how does One stop pest control
take care of this? Problem so obviously.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Ants are usually coming from the exterior of the. Property
so what we do is we actually seek and. Source
we try to find the problem where it's coming. In
so what we'll do is we'll follow the ants are
where they're coming from the best that we. Can sometimes
you lose and the weeds depending on how high or
how thick it, is once from, inside from the outside coming,

(04:13):
inside that's where we try to figure out what that
product do with them at that.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Point so do the folks At Once Stop Pest control
do you do an exterior application or do you get
them from the inside or do you do?

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Both so we do actually use a liquid material on
the inside and a gel bait on the, interior which
is generally a sugar, bait and then we do a
full exterior treatment around the cracks of, crevices around the.
Foundation we polls the door entry, points if there's trees

(04:50):
or bushes touched in the exterior that would bridge a
gap to the, house we hit those types of areas
to kind of make sure that nothing gets into the.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Home, okay how long does it take to control an ant?
Infestation is that a one treatment or is that something
that goes on on a regular.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Basis, well typically you can usually get, ridvance usually one
or two. Treatments it, depends excuse, me on the. INFESTATION
i apologize some in my. Throat so typically one to two,
applications depends on the outside issues and stuff like that

(05:32):
and where the answer coming. From but it takes usually on,
average it can take anywhere from fourteen to twenty eight
days to eliminated infestation on.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Average all, right well we'll see if we can.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Get you gotta let the. Material you gotta let the
material do its job and make sure that that is
taken back to the.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Nest, sure, Okay i'll let you give me a sales pitch.
Here why Would joe call one stop? First what stuff's?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
First, well because we are a family owned and, operated so,
basically all the money that spent in our company stays
in our, community right and basically after, that we we
like to pride ourselves on the fact that we have
the best customer. Service we try to do the best we,
can no matter what we can't no matter what's going,

(06:21):
on we try to do whatever's best for the, customer
not the best interested.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Us very. GOOD i love that whole family family. Businesses they're,
awesome and that good service is getting tougher and tougher to.
Find you, know one of my first callers, Today, bill
it's another ant issue And i'll talk about that before
we get into the others tests that are bothering us this.
Year and it kind of kind of stumped me a little.

(06:48):
Bit it was ants with wings and it wasn't termites
and Any the ANSWER i gave would be similar to
carpenter bees or carpenter. Ants maybe a dead, tree, branches

(07:10):
dead stomp coming from the. Outside is that where that project.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Starts, well they definitely start from the, exterior and just
exactly like you. Said and the ants that are swarming
currently at this at this point in time were usually
the pavement, ants the sugar ants that we talk about
that are on the. Sidewalks uh, huh those are the
those are the reproductive ants that are looking to start to. Do.
Uh so it's that it's that time of the year

(07:35):
for them to.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Swarm, okay, Well i'll tell you. What when you see
a swarm of. ANTS i don't know if a lot
of people listening right. Now i've Seen i've seen. One
it was the size of a basketball in the middle
of my. Driveway it was a. Convention, yeah, yeah they.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Were done a meeting out.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
There they sure, Were they sure. Were uh so what
other pest? STAR i guess. Hornets the cicadas are. Gone that's.
Good couldn't do much about that, anyway did.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
We, no there's not much we can do with those. Guys,
yeah but the hornets are definitely starting to pop. Up
we've been starting. Calls that was in the, week the
two weeks in regards to the bald faced, hornets and
they're definitely it's getting to that point where they're starting
to be noticeable as far as the nests are getting,
bigger and we're getting a ton of calls on.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
That so, far what hornets are? Wasted they'd love to
get behind shutters on, homes, too don't They they.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Do typically hornets usually like to get up under the
up under the eaves of the house because it stays
out of the, weather, rain stuff like, that in the.
Wind but they also tend to build nests in trees
and they're about they're like a gray football shaped and
nest is what they're what they're kind of looking.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
For, yeah do they come back or is that nest
of one? Time?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Deal typically then we'll start. Another uh the queen, literally,
uh it gets to the point where it starts to,
well she actually goes in over winters like in a
bark the tree and the in the barnie orange out
of a house anywhere where she can stay warm and
hibernate for the, winter and then she starts up the next.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Spring, okay are we out of termite caesar or is
that a twelve month a year.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Thing, well termit, season swarm season is pretty much over
at this. Point that usually starts from marching through but
the three sixty, Five, uh you know you'll you'll find
termites out in the mulch this year as people are
doing their gardening and things like. That if you guys

(09:48):
see anything the size of a piece of, rice it's
white with, white looks like a piece of rice and
has six, legs that's generally going to be your termites
inside of your mulch.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Beds so when we're buying, mulch we're buying termites.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Too. Huh, no not. Necessarily that's that's that people talk.
About you could you might be able to pick up
a couple of termites from, that but they're probably not
going to be able to start a new colony in
your in your yard because they don't have the reproductive
or the queen uh to to keep them.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Going, okay but if you see some in the mult
you want to respond to that correct or, no.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
You, ASKED i would definitely have the house inspected and
make sure nothing's going. On but if termites are within
a foot of your, home THEN i would definitely be
a little bit concerned because they're pretty. Close you. Know you,
know we built our houses on top of where the termites,
are so you're bounding and determined at some point in
the longevity of owning your. House, uh termites are going

(10:51):
to show up at one point or, another most.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Likely, sure how do you treat for termites in a? Home?

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Uh we use a lookuid treatment around the exterior of the,
property so every square the foundation for their, soil we
actually they dismissed to fill that trenderial and rob that
down the side of the. Foundation and then anywhere there's
concrete like a front porch or, garage back porch. Patio

(11:19):
we usually will drill about every eight p inches through
the concrete to get the material into the soil because
these are subterranean termainites that we deal with in our.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Area, okay, okay how often is that treatment need to
be done or has it got a ten year lifespan
or how long does that?

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Last, well that's a great. Question, basically the material lasts
anywhere from five to seven, years and then we do
a renewal where we come out once a year to
keep that, going make sure that nothing's going on and
live terminites will retreat it as long as the renewals tay.
Up BUT i would typically tell you if you have

(12:00):
had a turmite, infestation uh usually at a seven year,
mark you should you should probably have a booster treatment
done after.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
That, okay what are some of the things that the
homeowners can see maybe in their house that gives them
some concern when it comes to. Termites, well that's a great.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Question the biggest thing obviously is since we're past warm,
season you may find some some wings around the exterior
or around the inside of the, house and some spider
webs that would be where the termites have shed their.
Wings after they swarmed or the biggest thing is you're
really looking for mud. Tubes and mud tubes are shelter
tubes about the size of a, pen and they would

(12:41):
be coming up between the, cracks like between the foundation
floor and a, garage going up into the drywall from
the outside foundation in a. CORNER a lot of times
they'll be behind like down spouts because of the, moisture
and they'll come up through those areas and get right
into the.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
House how how far can termites travel from their? Colony
we talked about forming a new, COLONY i, mean do
they travel? Far or is that colony in your yard?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
Now, well typically they are usually on any given. Acre
there's anywhere from seven to thirty different colonies on an.
Acre so each year they're, all you, know they're all,
swarming starting new. Colonies so it can get bigger and
bigger as it. Goes, however terminites are blind and they
will actually run into the house just you, know not

(13:34):
knowing what they're, doing and they can't look up the
above the soil and they say there's built, houses let's
go over and eat his. House but they will travel
up to you, know like one hundred yards or something
of that nature from what my understanding of the research
that they've done where they've died the termites and then
let them. Go, yeah so they do. Travel they may

(13:56):
forth or a, TUNNELS i should, say in the soil
to get back to the houses and food, soores back
to the.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Nest all, right all, Right, WELL i got a couple more.
Questions let's take a break and maybe you can reposition.
Yourself your phone's breaking up just a little. Bit maybe
try another, Room, Bill Bill, richter he is With One
Stop Pest. Control he is my, guest and we'll continue

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Com back at it we, go twelve forty. Eight my
guess Is Bill.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
RICHTER i don't. KNOW i have.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Trouble the Same RICHTER i know Is Steve. Richter real,
Well Bill. Richter he is with One Stop Pest control
and getting a lot of information about ants and termites and,
hornets all the, things you, Know, bill when we're talking
about all these we didn't even get into, spiders but
talking about all these pests that our homes seem to collect.

(15:04):
Them is there anything we can do as homeowners to prevent?

Speaker 4 (15:09):
This that's a good question. TYPICALLY i, mean, obviously if
you're doing some type of a exterior type of treatment
around the exterior of your, house that's going to eliminate
a lot of different things that are coming into the.
House and also any type of gaps or cracks where

(15:29):
maybe intecs may be able to get, through you could
use some calking in those areas to seal that out
make sure nothing can get. In mm.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Hmm do you guys At Once stop pest? Control do
you get in any rodent?

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Control we?

Speaker 4 (15:43):
Do we do roadent control as. Well the biggest thing
that we do is mice and. Rats we don't actually
do anything for like wildlife squirrels or. Raccoons we have
other people that we refer that out, to but we
do take their.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Rodents, boy those can be tough. Too we went through
a battle of mice because we were doing a renovation
on a kitchen and we had doors, open and those
little boogers found their way in the. House uh without
without a, Manult.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
No it's pretty easy for them to get in they
can get into anything a little bit smaller than the
size of your pinking as a. Juvenile so once they
if they can get their head through the, hole they
can get their whole body. Through.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Well, well, WELL i guess the one thing we're all
kind of learning is we got to be observant to
what's going on because if you let these things, go
whether it's ants or or, mice, uh they can take
over fairly quickly and certainly cleaning up messes in the
kitchen and crumbs and things like. That and Like joe,

(16:47):
said the bottom of the door with the dog chewed,
off maybe a little bit of the sweep or. Something
replacing those those all are barriers to keep those pests
out of the, house and that plays a big part of.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
It it.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
Does it. Does we do a rodent inspection where we
come out and check for any gaps or. Holes, typically
if you can see the light under your garage, door
that means that there's a good possibility mice can get through.
There so we offered replacing the bottom garage door sweep
where the rodent proof garage door, sweep and we also

(17:23):
do man doors as well that is roadent. Proof and
we also replaced dryer events with a roadent proof dryer
e minuts that the metal that has a magnet on
it to make sure that they can close open and
close only when the dryer's. On so there's a lot
of different things that you can, do like sealing up
wheepholes if they're really big and wide, open or your

(17:44):
corner caps on the side of the house you have vinyl.
Siding those are good ways for mice to get straight
up up into the inside of your attic and then
work their way back down into the.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Home how about? Spiders is there any prevention on?

Speaker 4 (17:59):
That a pretty different type of intect to deal. With
we do a pretty large subdivision over by our. Homework
we live In harrison AND uh they actually have they
live in like a river valley and they have a
ton of. Spiders and basically we use the material that

(18:21):
we go around and take down All we take a
webster and take down all the webs around the outside
to clean it, up and then we actually go through
and spray with a liquid that a design specifically for
spiders uh in our. AREA, uh and it works. Wonderful
it does a great. Job and the biggest thing is
while we're treating for the, Spiders we're also treating for

(18:42):
other things as, well the other crawling insects that the
spiders are eating off.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Of now here's a. Question if it sounds like repair
and prevention is a is the way to go when
it comes to home. Pest do you have like a
quarterly service where you just take care of the outside
to prevent pests from getting into the.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
House, absolutely we do. That we do a rear rank
quarterly pest service and that basically consists of doing taking
down all the, webs treating all around the exterior of the,
property also putting down a granular bait around the outside
of the. House we also treat all like the construction
cues like the, garage the concrete where the, driveway the,

(19:32):
sidewalks anything where the ants would follow to get into the.
House so that would be more of a preventative type of.
Treatment it also keeps things in checking, case you, know
in between. Services but if there was something that popped
up in, between we would come out back out of
no additional costs and take care of that as long

(19:53):
as it's on a Quarterly, yeah all.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Right the name of the, company, folks is One Stop pest.
Control and as you can, Tell Bill richter is of
course very knowledgeable and you've been in the pest industry
for a long time and you know where to. Look
AND i want to do say this because it's so
true you have access to different things than the homeowner

(20:18):
has access. Too in other, words sometimes a six dollars
can of spray isn't going to work because it's you
have access to better. Stuff is that?

Speaker 4 (20:30):
True that is kind of. True for. Sure we're all
licensed and fully licensed in all three States, Ohio, kentunty And,
indiana so we're able to purchase the professional thing that
we can. Use but the biggest thing, is you, know
obviously we have a lot of people that do it,
themselves and then when when they do not and then
when they're not able to accomplish what the results that

(20:51):
you're looking, for they do give us a. Call we
help them. Out, yeah so that's always an. Option you
can always do it first, yourself and if it doesn't,
work give us a. Call we'd be happy to. Help.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Yeah, yeah all, Right so how do they get a
hold of, You?

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Bill they can reach us at our phone five one
three eight eight eight nine seven, six or they can

all the TIMES i talk about it and have for
years and, years so many things that we do around
our homes really come back to that old walk around the.
House it really. Does just noticing, things paying attention to.

(22:04):

wrong it. Is AND i know many of us we
see that and we go that ain't. Right, Well i'll
give it a month and see where we.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
