Eight hundred eight two three eight twofive five. Good morning. I am
Ron Wilson, your personal yard boy, talking about yarding on this Mother's Day
weekend. Let's kick it off witha cup of Joe mister Joe Struck,
our executive producer. Let's find outwhat's going on in his lot and landscape.
Nothing yet, probably won't h ourwebsite at Ron Wilson online dot com
and Facebook page In the Garden withRon Wilson. Good morning, sir,

(00:58):
Good morning. What'd you get yourmom from Mother's Day? Having it?
Guess what I got my mom fromMother's candy? Candy? Did you like
that I sent that to you.I know you didn't respond. I didn't
because I wanted to address it onour cup of jobs. Okay, I
would have liked to have been herewhen you played that. Those are fun

(01:18):
times, so folks understand what we'retalking about. Joe and I did a
series, a whole year series ofcommercials and they were all these with their
no Eddie and Joey and it wasnormafied. Yeah, it was our voices,
but there was we were run througha Gnome filter and so we were
and they were pretty funny. Wehad a good time with it. We

(01:38):
laughed. We laughed more after wedid those, but it was we had
a lot of fun with those. But there's a whole series of them.
One of them was for Mother's Dayweekend about not buying your mom candy for
Mother's Day. The big chakra wasEddie played by Ron was the actual gardener
and Joey Home was the lazy one. Shocker right now, how that happened?

(02:01):
I know, I know, it'slike, yeah, wait a second,
how that works? And then hegot married anyway, then Jamie came
into the Jamie Show and yeah, and then that nome got married. Yeah,
and I don't know what happened.Maybe Joey and Jamie got divorced or
something. I don't know. Well, it just ended, so we don't
know what ever happened to Jamie andJoey probably divorced. Joey's luck but Eddie,

(02:23):
Eddie was headed to the guard Centerto buy his mom hanging baskets some
stuff for Mother's Day. Yeah, and Joey's eat chew chewing on candy,
eating joey mom's mom's mom's candy, and Eddie says something about what's better than
buying your mom candy, uh huh. And Joe's like, but you got
in your hand, Joey candy andwhen to go to get your mom something

(02:46):
from the guard center? Uh huh. Yeah. So oh well, oh,
good memories. Maybe we should postthose just to listen. Yeah,
I mean at the office sometimes I'llpull I'll pull work up to their three
of those up and so we alwaysstick their head to the door and go,

(03:07):
what is that? Then you listento it, they kind of chuckle
and you know, you know, some of them had some jokes in them.
Yeah, maybe maybe we'll do that. Yeah, Joey got a little
feisty at the end when he gotmarried there though. Yeah, we got
in tankers, Yes he did,Yes he did, Yes he did.
At the very end, you gotvery Jamie kept yelling him, Joey,

(03:29):
Yes, well we stop and eatBurger King on the way there. But
oh those are some good times, good times. So anyway, so it
is Mother's Day weekend and in thisweek's see we got tons of tornadoes in
our area. Tons the count wantto be in eighteen tornadoes, I know,

(03:53):
started out at two and then theyuped it to eight and then all
of a sudden it's eighteen Wow,crazy, crazy and and really in our
in our area. I'm not goingto say for the other areas, but
minimal damage for eighteen tornadoes. Yeah, I mean it really is. We
got lucky that it hit places wherethere wasn't a whole lot of population and
nobody killed. Nope. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure there were a few,

(04:15):
some injuries, some houses, somehouses they get damaged. I'm just
saying there wasn't any friend of mine. Yeah, and one of the houses
in Marrow that got taken out.Yeah, yeah, she's lived there forever.
But yeah, just strange stuff.Yeah. So and then we have
a little bit of rain today thismorning, and then tomorrow for Mom's Day.

(04:36):
It's supposed to the sun. Theclouds are pussed to apart and supposed
to be sunny. Seventy two iscool, well compared to eighty Okay,
compared to ninety. Yeah, butit's okay. And then we're supposed to
get rained on next week again.Yes, so killing is just all moms,

(04:59):
you know, thanks, you know, God opened up and said mom
from mom, just from rain onFather's Day, will thunderstorm? Did I
tell you moms love things from thegarden they do, especially from garden centers.
They do, Yes, they do. We were going to talk about
that a little bit later. Butdid I mentioned that that they like?
I never heard that before, butyes, so I bring that up.

(05:20):
What are they like from the gardencenter, mister Wilson, What would you
think? I'm going to guess?Flowers, flowers, hanging baskets, herb
planners, gardening tools, gardening tools, earth boxes, earth boxes, rain
gauges, rain gages, raised beds, uh, lawnmowers. And that's for

(05:40):
dad, that's for dad. Yeah, all nice pair of gloves, maybe
a maybe a bucket, smaller pairof pruners, yeah, bucket and if
you're not sure, just gift cardfrom your favorite garden center. Yes,
yeah, I would like garden art. Garden art yeah yeah, yeah,

(06:02):
like the little metal birds and stuffthey make out a garden to that little
little like mirrored ball that kind oflooks like a crystal ball kind of thing
that inside the mirrored ball nomes gazingglobe. That's what they're called, gazing
globe. The cool that's the coolway to say. Yeah, Eddie and

(06:23):
Joey. Yeah, the garden nose. Yeah, they got him a little
faded but still got them. Istill got them. They faded out,
but I still got them. Soyeah, so Mama, Mama, get
mama something in the garden yep.Got still got till tomorrow yep. So
but it's going to be busy,be patient. TikTok though, but TikTok

(06:43):
talk on that. Ye. Sowho do you have on your Mother's Day?
I'm already got her president? Allright? Cool? So who you
got on the show today, misterw Today we have Monica brew Baker.
Yes, why do we have Monicaon? Because because it's the day before
Mother's Day? Big birding week thisweek we'll talk to her about that spring

(07:04):
birding. And of course that's anothergreat thing you can do for mom dinner
a bird is get her, gether something that would attract the bird into
the yard. But you have toget a bird. Bird feeder, yeah,
could be birde house, bird house, all kinds of stuff, like
about a bee house. Oh,that would be a good one too.
There you go. She watched thebeat. You think Monicabricker is talking about

(07:27):
bees, though she's not. She'sonly talking about birds todaysha And then after
that the triple A A doctor AlanApple armitage back on again. Yes,
talking about all kinds of his, some of those favorite perennials and things like
that. So it's always fun havingdoctor A on cool. So yeah,
and then you and Gary Sullivan andBuggy Joe Boggs and everyone else in between,

(07:48):
and everyone else in between phone linesare open. It's called now by
the way, your Kentucky Derby picks. Yes. None of us did very
well, did we? I thinkI did better than you. You did
a lot better than me. How'dwe do? I think mine ended up
eighth? Do what I think mineended up eighth? You picked? Uh?
I picked Uh. I had Sierralo. No, it was my third

(08:13):
honor Marie. Yeah, came inseventh, seventh, Yeah, because I
had it written down here. AndFierceness ended up fifteenth or something like that.
Then he had Grand Moo and Fiercenessand epic Ride. I don't even
think. I don't think any ofthe rest of them even finished the race.
Epic Ride still running. I thinkthey well, I think they turned
the corner and right into the paddock. They weren't even out there. I
went even close. But but butI said forever young for Rita because of

(08:35):
Rod Stewart. Yeah, second place, there you go. Thanks and the
uh three times a three horse photofinish first time ever. That was pretty
cool. I mean that was thatliterally was by a nose and that was
that was a good one. FlaredNostril. Yeah, yeah, I thought
they were going to call it becausethere was a lot of bumping going on,
but nobody declared a no anything. They said no. I thought it

(08:58):
was fair. Now now I'm gonnaI'm gonna I'm gonna do a teeny tiny
rant here. Why did they haveto have seven hours of television coverage before
the prace? I don't know thecoverage they run it. They wait so
late to run it, I don'tknow. I used to run like at
four thirty in the afternoon. Iknow, I know it's for advertising and

(09:18):
they probably sold a lot of commercials. Yeah, but it's the same thing
with the Super Bowl. Yeah. Why yeah, I mean there's only so
many stories you can do, andthen you start repeating yourself and then it
sounds and if you what and ifsomeone's no one's watching all seven hours,
I wouldn't think so. I justI just what I did was I looked

(09:39):
online. They said the race, the actual race was at six fifty eight
or seven or whatever it was,and I just did what I wanted to
do. I took a nap.After I did after I came up and
did the show, I took anap. I did some stuff around the
house, took another nap, andthen took another nap, and that had

(10:01):
my baby nap on top of thatnap, post nap, nap, and
then post and then I set myalarm for like six forty five. I
woke up from my post nap nap, yeah, and just in time for
the post, just to watch therace, and then went back to sleep.
So there you go. Seven hours. I don't know. Obviously they
sold it though, well what theysell it. It's just who watches all

(10:24):
seven hours? I don't know.I'm not home, so I can't anyway,
I get home just time to watchthe race. Anyway. Website too
many horses website Ron Wilson online dotcom. And this week there we're talking
volcanoes, Yes, talking in volcanoes. And why do you say that?
Why why are we talking volcano Becauseit's not a good thing to do,

(10:46):
right thing to do to your treeand talk about talking about multip the volcano.
That's a really good that's a reallygood posting that time on this one
because Joe actually describes where the rootsgo and what happens with the with the
soil, the extra maultch and allthat. That's a really good one.
It's about a twenty pager, butit really has some great information. They're
not just saying volcanic mulch is badfor your tree. Kind of gets into

(11:07):
detail there, and I think it'sa very good exclusion. It's not that
it's it's a volcano as in itlooks like a volcano because you've moulted some
trees erupting out of the middle,it comes up the trunk, you know,
Yeah, don't do that. ButI did throw him a ringer last
week he was talking a little bitabout that. Yeah, I said,
Joe, what happens if the mostnever touched the trunk of the tree,

(11:28):
but it was volcano molster around thetree? What do you say? He
said, I want to talk toyou a little bit more about gulls.
Okay, he didn't have an answer. All right, it's okay, anyway,
So have we got that on thewebsite, So checkchack that peruse that
rita this week instead of a recipe, She's her idea was an herb garden

(11:54):
for your mom. She really gotinto detail. There got a lot of
detail talking about the different types ofherbs and what mom would like. And
isn't it interesting because in mine alsoas Mother's Day picked, it would be
mother Day picks. But I alsohave in there an herb plant planner.
So you put the two of themtogether. What makes a great gift for
mom for Mother's Day an herb planner. So there you go. We both

(12:16):
agreed on that one. So Mom'slooking for an herb planner for Mother's Day
this year. Did your mom usedmuch fresh herbs? No? Not really
Nope, No, I'm doesn't either. I mean she used herbs and spices,
yes, but not much nice fresh. She wasn't going down into the
garden and pick them out. Yeah. So so that kind of big us

(12:39):
to your post for the plants ofthe week. We have herb planner,
which you get already addressed. Yes, and then we got some butterfly weed
yes, which is a good pollinatoryep, brings the butterflies in. You
can just do that. You canjust do that in a container for Mom
and you'll have monarch butterflies and otherbutterflies as well buzzing around there later.
And so just a pollinator garden andjust a regular old pollinator garden, plus

(13:03):
your planners planner. So lots ofgreat gifts ideas there for mom. Gifts
from mom. Yes, exactly,So well, I gotta go and get
my mom a gift now since Iate all the candy, what do you
get your mom? Joey, what'sin your mouth? Oh me? Yeah,
that makes me laugh. Maybe we'lldo some good times now. I

(13:24):
won't be here next week, soand have fun without me. We will
struggle through, struggle through it.Now, you have a successful surgery,
so people know that you that alittle back surgery, having surgery. Yeah,
So taking a whole week to recoverthrough a couple of prayers my way,
and maybe I'll be back. You'llbe fine. Maybe i'll be back

(13:46):
the Saturday after that. I knowyou'll be in good hands. You'll be
fine. Just take the week offpost nap, pre nap, after nap,
during nap, lots of naps, nap. You just be nap napping
the whole week. That's the goal. Good for you, and then keep
us in touch. Well, I'llwatch everybody now next week or two weeks
from now, what's going on.We will get a little summary at that

(14:07):
point. Maybe maybe if he feelslike it cool, all right here all
right? Facebook page in the Gardenwith Ron Wilson. Website in the Garden

nice clancho or calanchowi sometimes it's pronounced, but you'll see a lot of those
out there for Mother's Day weekend.Pretty cool little plant, all different colors,
great flowers. It's it's a succulentand once they're done with the flowers,
you just kind of nip all thoseoff of there and grow it as
a succulent. And it's hard toget those to reflower. But you see

(19:56):
him all the time. I mean, it's so he was kind of sitting
off himself with the store I wentto, so he kind of begging me
to pick him up. And it'sa that was a kind of a pink
color, right, Yeah, yeah, it was beautiful. So I don't

(23:04):
with Ron Wilson. And of courseit is Mother's Day weekend talking yard and
get eight hundred eighty two three eighttwo five five Mothers Day Weekend. Get
out to your local independent garden center. All kinds of great things out there
for mom. As a matter offact, if you do go to our
website at ron Wilson online dot com. That was kind of interesting, Red
and I she sent in a reallygood article, and they always are.

(23:26):
But her recipe is about how todo container gardens for mom, and I
think is very interesting interesting because shegets into how to personalize that planter by
picking out maybe what mom likes tocook with as far as herbs, text
meths, text mechs, Southwestern cooker. Well, there's all kinds of herbs

(23:48):
for that tea gardening, all kindsof herbs, spa bath garden. Uh.
And again it just goes on andon. Essential kitchen herbs like basil
and park and chives and rosemary anda regular and stage and all that on
and on and on. And youknow the thing about growing herbs, whether
it be in a container or inthe ground, I've always said if somebody

(24:10):
came up to me, a youngcouple or an older doesn't matter, and
they said, we've never gardened beforeand we would love to get involved gardening.
Where do you suggest we start? And you know, you always have
to try to grow tomato and apepper. I mean, that's that's pretty
common. But I always say startinggrowing some of the herbs, and I
think that you know, herbs probablyfor the most part, are probably some

(24:36):
of the easiest plants to grow,I think, both in the container and
in the ground. Not a lotof maintenance, besides the fact that when
you are clipping them to use them, you are pruning them, causing them
to get fuller. You dead hadthem for most cases not to let them
to go to flour so they continuethe annuals, especially so they continue to

(24:56):
produce the foliage for you. Butfor the most part, whether it be
in the container in the ground, growing herbs is fairly I say, fairly
low maintenance and fairly easy. Again, low feeders. So when you put
your if you're doing a container andyou put your container together, a little
osma coat mixed in with that givesyou a nice slow release feeding throughout the

(25:17):
season. Just about what pretty wellcover you is as far as going through
the season with most all the herbsout there and what I like to do.
You know, you can take goto your local garden center and you
can get very nice looking containers. You know, they've got very nice looking
plastic containers anymore, so they're notheavy and they're less expensive. But I

(25:37):
will just take those black nursery potsif they grow the trees in the larger
ones, the ten fifteen twenty gallon, twenty five gallon pots, I like
the squat ones. So they're onlyyou know, twelve fourteen inches deep,
but maybe eighteen twenty twenty four incheswide at the top, so they're not
as deep. And of course herbsroot system wise not that extensive, so

(25:59):
you can get with a more shallowcontainer doing the herbs, but do the
wider one. And the reason Ido the wider ones is because then we
can create these herb gardens like readeris talking about. So then you can
get into that, and you know, you've if you've got a twenty inch
diameter herb planter, the squad planter, you know, you can easily get
four or five, six, dependingon what you're looking at, seven different

(26:22):
varieties of herbs in that one container. Now we're probably planning them a little
closer than they normally would be ifyou you know, were growing them in
the garden or whatever, but that'sokay because they all kind of grow away
from each other. You are pruningthem and harvesting from them throughout the season,
so it works that way, andof course, you're using both the
combination of a theme garden as faras like we said earlier, Tex Mex

(26:45):
seafood, basic herbs that you wouldgrow, plus the ones that would grow
that like the pretty much the samerequirements as well. And if by chance,
you know, you can get evenlarger containers. I used to do
these thirty six inch diameter terri bowlesand they were gorgeous. They were plastic,
but they were like terra cotta andthirty six inches and I could do

(27:08):
these herb gardens in there and hada lip on the side so I could
pick it up and move it squad. It was only about the twelve fourteen
inches deep, great draining holes inthe bottom, but I could put easily
ten to twelve most of the time. Different types of herbs in there,
especially like some of the creeping timecoming off the sides, rosemary coming off

(27:29):
the side, cascading some of thetallers to the back, all of that.
But you could really squeeze a lotof perennials in this thirty six inch
container. So it just shows youwhat you can do. And again,
whether it's for you or is formom, or whatever it may be,
it's so easy to grow fresh herbsin containers or in the ground. But
if you do it in containers andyou have it on the patio or deck

(27:52):
or right outside, you've got thosefresh herbs right at your fingertips. And
I think that's really important. Youcan walk out on the path, harvest
what you need, come right backinside the kitchen and use it inside or
harvest you know, in your salador whatever it may be. But herbs
and containers definitely one of the easiestthings to do. And if you're a
new gardener, that's to me,that's a great first step for you.

(28:15):
And then next to that you wouldhave a one to do a if you're
not sure on the on the tomato, do a cherry tomato. Cherry tomatoes
are probably the easiest tomato to growof all of them. They really rarely
get into black rot on the bottom, blossom and rot things like that.
They just they do such a greatjob and produce like crazy great going to
try and the then just grow apepper if you like kalipinos, or a

(28:38):
bell pepper, cajun bell, ifyou like shashiitos, Oh my gosh,
I love shashito peppers. You knowyou kind of brown or cristals up a
little bit and a little sea salton top of a little olive oil.
Cook them in the Oh, youcan't beat it. But it's a shashiitos.
But those are all I'm telling you. If you've ever had those,
dan they're fantastic. I never have. I may have to try them.

(29:00):
Sometimes they call them roulette peppers becauseevery now and then you bite into one
and it's they got a little heatto it. But otherwise they typically are
not a hot pepper, but it'scalled shashito. Absolutely outstanding, but again
very easy for you to grow.So you know, again, these are
things that you know, if youknow, if you've your mom likes to
do some gardening, these are greatthings to do that you can custom make

(29:22):
for her and put her out onthe patio. As you know, every
year I tell you what I dowith my mom, and you know she
counts on me. On her patio. We do about four or five container
tomatoes, of which she'd rather havejust all of them, cherry tomatoes,
and we always do sweet one hundreds. We always do Mexico midget. Now
that's uh, I guess it's okayfor me to say that, but it's

(29:44):
a variety and we do it everyyear because they're preferring that's exactly. But
I always joke about that, butRapunzel sometimes, you know, but we'll
we do those, and she lovespicking those, and we'll always kick off
the season with tumbling tom cherry tomatoes. Tumbling toms, and they're determinant cherry
tomato that only gets about eighteen totwenty four inches high and wide, great

(30:08):
and hanging baskets, great and containers. They produce like crazy. You can't
believe how many cherry tomatoes you getoff of tumbling toms. And there's reds
and yellows out there, and fromwhat I understand, the reds have been
harder to find this year than theyellows, but they're out there, and
it gets you. They are aquick, quick producer. So while your
other cherry tomatoes are coming on,your tumbling toms are giving you some nice

(30:33):
cherry tomatoes early on, kind ofan okay flavor. You know, it's
nice and the production's outstanding. Butonce they start to finish up, your
other cherries start to come in.So a few of those we've got the
cherry tomatoes. Maybe some basil.A few things underneath those cherry tomatoes.
Few annual planters in the course aredragon wing begonias. Dragon wing begonias absolutely

(30:55):
indestructible. Hanging basket those day andin containers eat away but drag and wing
mcgoneus are unbelievable performers. Do itevery year. She counts on it.
That's my Mother's Day gift to mymom every year. And we do that
and she loves her cherry tomatoes withher homemade blue cheese dressing. Now your
mouth is watering, Dan, thereyou go very much so. Yeah,

Eight hundred eight two three eight twofive five That is our number.
Good morning. I am Ron Wilson, your personal yard boy, talking about
yarding on this Mother's Day weekend.Of course, on this Mother's Day weekend,
you know it's uh, it's it'suh open up the gates and have
at it. As far as plantingfor us now, if you're still up
in his zone four. Uh,you're probably still on the cusp there as

(33:50):
far as the frost. But forus, by the time we get to
this stage, it's pretty much,uh, you know, open it up
and let's let's have at it.So a temperatures have gotten into the seventies
now, although we've had a couplecool days. Yesterday was in the sixty
Boy, felt great. But weare there, and you know, whether
you know it seems like Mother's Dayweekend has always been kind of the quotation
mark kickoff for a frost free plantinganyway, But get out there and get

(34:14):
it done. Of course, likeI say, get out to your local
independent garden centers because they are stockedto the gills for things for mom and
your garden and the vegetable garden andthe landscaping and the trees and the shrubs.
You'll find more things in the gardencenters right now than you probably will
any other time the rest of theyear. Eight hundred eight two three eight

(34:34):
two five five, John and Charlotte, Good morning, sir, Hi Ron.
If you may recall, I sentyou an email. I've got a
line of knockout rows trees three tofour foot tall, Yes, sir,
and I lose I lose to aseason. You mentioned in riding back to
me asking me if I do anythingto protect them during the winter, and

(34:55):
I don't. I didn't think Ineeded to. But what do I need
to do? Do you think that'swhy I'm losing two a season? I
don't know. You know. Thething of it is, and you guys,
of course a little bit warmer therethan we are, but we still,
even though we continue to warm uphere, really don't leave those sitting
outside over the winter unless we eitherdo one of two things. Either actually

(35:17):
do a root cut around it andlay it over on the ground and then
malt it over like you would aregular rows, so you pile leaves up
over the top of the whole thingand winterrize it that way. You've got
to be a little cautious sometimes becauseif you have critters there that like to
chew, like voles, they'll loveto chew on that, so you've got
to be careful doing that. Butthat's one way. Some folks will take

(35:38):
chicken wire, make a tubular cagearound it and then fill it up with
leaves and straw in that and dothat. But Most people have the best
success doing them in containers where theyjust actually take the big pot, stick
it down in the ground and enjoyit or on the patio, and then
slide that thing after it goes dormantinto the unheated garage or shed overwintering in

(36:00):
that protection and then bringing it backout in the springtime. And that's usually
what we recommend. Most people wereZone six for even here at six,
and even though it's been zone sevenwinters that it still can do a number
on them over the wintertime because beingup and exposed like that, out of
the ground for some reason just opensthem up to a little bit more of

(36:22):
the winter damage. So that wasmy suggestion to you as far as maybe
maybe that would be one of thereasons why it's not coming through the because
you're making it through the season, right, You're just not making it through
the winter. Oh yeah, theybloom beautifully pretty much all summer. You
recommend it as an alternative rows ofSharon, would that tolerate our winter without

(36:45):
having to do all that? Yeah? So then then if you get into
the patio trees call them patio trees, but they stay small. It's a
shrub on a stick. That's whatit boils down to. And they've taken
rows of Sharon. They've taken hydranges, which I'm sure you've seen the hydranges
that look like a tree form.Uh. They've taken those. They've taken

(37:05):
witch hazel, they've taken viburnums, taken a lot of the different shrubs.
Nine bark is very beautiful with thefoliage and and either grafted them or trained
them, so you've got that trunklook like a small tree. And they
typically prove out to be much hardieras far as winter because it's it's that
shrub which is very hardy for yourarea. Uh. And and they come

(37:30):
through quite nicely. Some of themare grafted, some of them are like
I say, just pruned up intoa tree form. But that the thing
about the rows of Sharon, whenwe look at that thing, obviously the
that's one of the only woody shrubs, hardy woody shrubs that will technically flower
for you once it starts, youknow, in late spring, will flower
off and on through the entire seasonuntil the fall shuts it down, so

(37:52):
you do get color like you wouldget out of the knockout rows. I
think we'll take a look at thatgoing forward. Yeah, take just take
a look and see it, andit may not be what you're looking for,
and we stick with the knockouts andwe just maybe try to do a
little bit more over winter protection.I think the other thing I try to
remind folks with knockouts especially, andI were just talked to somebody about this

(38:14):
yesterday. You know, they're selfdead heading, so they continue to flower
late into the season, and you'reI'm sure do the same thing. And
here we've seen them in flower aslate as December the eighteenth, still showing
a little bit of color with greenleaves, and then if all of a
sudden, our temperatures just drop offthe board. Now we've got these plants
that have been actively growing right upto that point, hadn't really started to

(38:37):
harden off like the other roses whenthey shut down starting in September October,
and it makes them a little moresubject to some winter die back. So
you know, that's that could bea you know, adding to that little
bit as well. But you know, just just check out some of those
patio tree patio trees and see whatyou think. But the high biscus would

(38:58):
be the rosa Sharon would be theone that would give you the good color
pretty much all season long. Okay, Ron, thanks for your help,
love your show. Thanks John goodtalking with him. I appreciate the emails
and all too. And of courselet's run up to Dayton. What are
you saying? Talktor our good buddyDick from Dayton, Good morning, good
morning. How are you? Iam great? How are you doing?

(39:22):
Good? Good boy? Yesterday hitthe pot over at the the scene Decisions.
We had ten people there rocking.Man. Oh, we hit every
song in the book. It wasgreat. And I took my electric mandolin
and Bob says, oh, boy, Dick's chopping that mandolin down the front
board. I was going on KarnaCarina, stand by me, Stager Lee.

(39:45):
It was a lot of fun.Buddy, Wow, so electric one.
Yeah. Well, they put themicrophone on it. They put the
microphone on it. Good, yeah, good. And I found out about
school. I'm gonna go in thefall, and I think I'm gonna take
it's called it's called the Spring InstrumentBluegrass. It's probably an hour and then

(40:08):
we then we play. So Ihave to take that in the fall start
in the September. That that'd beup my alley, wouldn't they That would
be right up your alley. Ilove it just so good. Hey,
you know what good Mother's Day weekend. Of course you used to work at
Low's and you know how busy Ialways was on Mother's Day weekend? Do
you miss Do you miss that?I do? We do. I miss

(40:30):
a lot of the people. Imiss a lot of the people. But
I don't know. I'm worried aboutthe Reds. They got to start winning
some games. Yeah, they betterget a you know, they go through,
you go through the ups and downs, but they gotta get out of
this down. Yeah. Well, listen, I know you gotta go out
today. Thanks Dick, good talkingto you. Take care. Always a
pleasure talking with Dick. And bythe way, Danny, I just got

(40:52):
a text from Monica Brubaker. Theyare stuck in Atlanta at the airport and
they will not be They're gonna belying out just in a little while.
So we do not have Monica forthe next half hour. And she is
always next week. Oh yeah, she apologizes, sincerely. I guess she
told me they were supposed to beflying back in I thought late last night

(41:12):
or early this morning, But lookslike they are stuck there. So no
Monica in our next half hour, but coming up at the bottom of the
next hour, of course we gotthe triple a doctor Alan Armon. He's
always a lot of fun with doctorArmitage, So you know what that means.
That means you're stuck with me andme and Dan and of course lots
of tips to share with you aswell, and we'll always see you open

(41:32):
for you, and that's what we'rehear about, is to take your calls
and to try to help you bemore successful in what you do in your
gardening endeavors. And of course that'san eight hundred eight two three eight two
five five, So we'll have thenext half hour open up because, like
I said, Monica's stuck in theAtlantis. You got, I guess in
the revolving door there of changing flightsand all that kind of stuff. So

(41:54):
that's a huge airport in itself.It's a separate city. That is a
scary airport in it sometimes it's sobig talking about yardening. I had a
great question this week. I thoughtwas I'd never gotten this one before,
and I don't think we've ever talkedtoo much about this on our show.
But somebody said it gave me anemail and said, look, I'm I'm

(42:15):
looking at thinking of doing the stripingon my lawn. He says, I
think it's really cool. I've seensome other neighbors do it. You know,
is it bad for your lawn becauseyou're rolling it to get that striping
effect? Does it cause problems? Is it not good for your lawn to
do that? And what's interesting is, and if you're not familiar with what's
striping, is when you know, when you're watching the baseball games and you

(42:37):
see the patterns on the turf outthere, well, that's striping. And
the way they do that, ofcourse, depends on the way they're mowing.
And they have a little roller that'son the mower that basically bends the
grass blades over so that when yousee the light, it's either light or
dark. It reflects whether they've beenover away from you or bent over toward
you. And of course they createall those great patterns. So is that

(42:59):
a good or a bad thing?Well? One, first of all,
the roller that is used for thatis lightweight. There's no really no weight
to it. It's strictly attached andpushing the blades over. What if you
think about striping the lawn and whatit takes to do that. It actually
encourages you to do all of thecultural practices that we always talk about.
Mowing a little higher than usual twoand a half to three and a half

(43:22):
inches so that you can get thoseblades to bend over. You're always mowing
in a different direction, so you'realways changing the direction of mowing, which
is very very important. Cuts downon compaction, makes those blades grow better
for you by going back and forthdifferent directions. You've got to keep an
eye on the turf, keep itas healthy as possible. So all of
those cultural practices come into play justbecause you want to do striping of the

(43:45):
lawn. So it's a good thingand encourages you to do a better job
when it comes to taking care ofthe lawn. So if you want to
try your hand at lawn striping, have at it. Set us a Picture'd
love to see it. Eight hundredeight two three eighty two five five.
