Speaker 1 (00:06):
Let's talk Giants football, brought to you by Curtis lumber
your local full service home center and Lumberyard. And now
from the New York Giants Pre and postgame show, it's
John Smelk.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Let's have good morning, gentlemen.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
John.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
What's up, guys?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Good Man? So Giants Green Bay Sunday. But I want
to ask about this story that's coming out. Did did
cas Get and Dable have a beef this season?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
No? I mean I saw that one brief story where
I guess the Dable got mad at him during a
game or whatever. First of all, I don't know if
that's true. Maybe it was according to one player. Second
of all, Brian Diable gets mad at a lot of
people during games. He's he's he's just a fiery guy
and he and he tends to yell during games. That
was his personality, for better or worse. And uh, look,

(00:53):
I don't I don't think that was a real thing,
to be honest with you, I don't think those two
guys that apart.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
It wasn't sure, you know, sometimes like someone's always trying
to smear somebody out the door or something like that.
I wasn't sure what.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
It was even if it was, it sounds pretty normal, right, Yeah,
I think they had a little jawing. Yeah, all right.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
So did you guys?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Here's the bottom line. In the middle of a competition
with a game's going on, stuff gets said, people get mad,
It happens, and then you move on.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Right, did you did you? When will you meet with
the interim coach? Have you done it already? Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yes, it was done this morning.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
What's that like?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Look, I mean, Mike's great. I think he's he's not
nervous doing doing a lot of the media stuff. I
think it helps that the NFL makes the offensive defensive
coordinators depresses every week, so he's kind of been used
to it doing them over the last you know, three
and a half years. And you know, he was an
NFL quarterback too, so we obviously talked to media plenty
when he was Ah, he was a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, game thinking, Actually, what's his game plan here?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Well, I mean he's not going to tell us what
his game plan is, Okay, but you know he he's
made some very subtle changes, you know, around meeting times
and now some things are scheduled and nothing crazy. He's
just he's basically just trying to make things as easy
and then then they thinks as best for the players
as possible. Look, I don't think he's gonna be overwhelmed
by this. I know, calling plays and then being the
head coach at the same time is going to be tough.

(02:08):
He is a good team upstairs to help with game
management stuff from the Giants analytics team. So I think
he's gonna do Okay. Unfortunately, his first games against a really,
really tough opponent in the package.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, and it needs something to prove too. They've been
the Packers haven't been playing well lately.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, dude, Tree losses to the Panthers and the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
So where was Kafka quarterback? I guess I've forgot Vikings.
Where was he?

Speaker 2 (02:32):
He was drafted by Andy Reid with the Eagles back
in the day.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Okay, he's relatively young, right, he's like under forty I
think thirty eight thirty eight, So we got a young
guy here is he calling the plays and the head coach?

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, he's I believe he's the second youngest head coach
in the NFL now after Mike McDonald if I'm not mistaken,
and yes he will he You know, I don't think
he wants to do too much of a change, so
I think he wanted to try to keep himself in
place calling plays. So he will do that and manage
the game. Tim Kelly, who was the Giants tight ends coach,
he was previously an offensive coordinator in Houston and Tennessee.

(03:05):
He will take over his offensive coordinator, but Kaska will
call plays on something. Because Kafka wasn't the head dog
for so long as the outbuddy body with the players,
you know, I think he's still trying. I think a
big thing for him this week and mad he introduces
is the wrong word, but to kind of ingratiate himself
with the defense a little bit, right, because as the

(03:26):
offensive coordinator, you're not really interacting with the defense. So
you know, Brian Burns is as during the week this
week about what his relationship was. He goes, yeah, they
really have one, and I think a lot of the
defensive players don't because you know, they just are not
meetings with him and all that stuff. So I think
a big part of this week was him getting to
know the defense. I think it was dex Or Lawrence.

(03:46):
They after they said he was kind of popping his
head in the defensive drills, you know, kind of you know,
kind of teasing them give him a hard time, trying
to give him some motivation for Sunday. So I think
that's kind of been a bit, a bit a big
part of this, to make sure the whole team understands
now that he's coaching everybody.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
John Schmulk the Giants pre and post game show here
in Sunday games at one pregame is at noon. I
heard the clips from a couple of players in regards
to Dable leaving, and I don't know if it was
Dexter Lawrence, but someone was like, Hey, this is a
business and this should be a wake up call to
all of us. Are you sensing that with the team?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, I think I think. I think might have been Dexter.
Brian Burns, I think also said that, okay, and multiple
players have said that, look, and most of them also
have said that, look, we feel responsible for this, right
like if we would have played better. Yeah, And Shane Boonen,
the defensive coordinator, said this too, if you would have
coached the defense up better in the second half of
these games, especially in the fourth quarter, Brian, they will
still be here. So I think everyone does take that

(04:39):
the hard people like Dable in the building and it's
not like people. You know, it's been a weird week.
Grell happy for casket, but we're all kind of sad
that that David isn't here. And I think the players
understand that. Look for one, it's our fault for not
closing out these games that Dable's not here. And then
number two, by the way, once you get rid of
the coach and think things still continue to go back,

(05:00):
you know, the next group of people that get blamed.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Players the players.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
You have to make sure you turn.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
This up into this week.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
How's he looking? Jamis is pumped up. He's very except
sure you guys have saw the him singing Hamilton clip. Yes,
so he's excited. He's pumped up. He's very excited to play.
Uh this is He's gonna have to be careful though,
because the Packers are a very bin but don't break defense.
They give up the fewest explosive pass players fifteen or
twenty more yards in the National Football League, and Jamis

(05:30):
likes to push the ball down the field. If he
does that in this game, he could run into trouble.
So it's going to be important for him to be patient.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
So you think Jamis would be the starter if Davill
was still here? Or is this a caf kup thing?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
You know, I don't know the answer to that question.
I don't think anyone does. Paul and I on our
show on Monday, before the change was even made, we
both said that we would have started Jamis this week
even if Russ was healthy. He just hasn't looked really
good with with you know, with Russ so far this year.
You know, I think he's get a little bit older.
He doesn't want to get hit. He kind of sens
this pressure when it's not there sometimes things like that.

(06:05):
But you know, I don't know the answer to that.
It's a good question. I don't know if we're gonna
know the answer to that, to be honest with you,
all right.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Smelk, we're gonna hear him before and after the game
Giants Packers coming up here Sunday. That one you was
it a landslide for Aaron Judge? Was cal Raley? Ever?
Who's is that a lock?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
You know, I did not have a chance to look
at the vote totals. Does Baseball release the vote totals
or not?

Speaker 3 (06:28):
I'm not even to be honest, I just read they
listed all the players that got one vote, including araldist Chapman,
which I thought.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Was great with a roll. This Chatman gott to vote.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
He got a dude, he had almost a perfect season
as a closer. James Garfield got to vote real quick.
What's that the game we're gonna get? Lay it out
for us?

Speaker 2 (06:49):
I mean, I think it's gonna be a vote scoring one.
The Packers have lost three games this year and the
defense is given up thirteen or fewer points, So sixteen
or your point part of me, so I think it's
gonna be a low scoring game. The Packers' offense is struggled.
I think the Giant defense is a chance to play well,
and I think that's what you're looking at. You know,
don't make mistakes, stay in the game, don't beat yourself.

(07:10):
And if you can keep this Packer offense down again
it's struggled the last two weeks, less than twenty points
against the Panthers and the Eagles, I think you have
a chance to win.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
And because I want to hear you gush, what do
you think of them Patriots last night?

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I mean, I think once again the Patriots are very
fortunate to play a team like the Jets, so that
we really couldn't that really couldn't too much. I'm just kidding. Look,
the Patriots are a good team. The Jets offense is
hard though, I think I agree with that. It's just
not good. But look, Drake may is really good. He
looks good with Daig, Trevion Henderson is getting a bigger role,

(07:43):
which is fun. Look, I still think worldy Y're early
on New England. I don't think they're a super Bowl contender,
but look, I think there's there's a decent part to
win the division.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Are super Bowl it's too fast, it's too soon. Doesn't
happen like this. They're already getting close to that. I
think they's got some holes, all right, Okay, we'll see
here we go.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
And by the way, they have a ton of money
to spend next year, so they have all the resources
in the world and draft picks to make the moves
they need in order to bring in extra help.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
That's the beat though with the fans is like some
of you, they haven't spent a lot lately. They haven't.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
But anyway, remember you don't want to send good money
after bad players. Man that's how you screw up your rocks.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
There. They know that.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I know that all to all. My friend Kenny Galladay,
I think is throwing the books this year. I'm just kidding.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Listen to you on Sunday. Appreciate the time this morning, anytime,
boys appreciate it.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
