Speaker 1 (00:03):
And now.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
From the New York Giants broadcast team, it's John Smell. Kay,
that went about us expected.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Oh anyway, expected it to be that bad.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
If it's bad, Huh, that was not good.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
It was domination.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
I think at a halftime it was like two hundred
something yards the twenty something.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It was bad.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
But it's not the quarterback. I hear.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
It wasn't.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
I mean, if you lose that badly, it's not just
the quarterback. The Bucks scored on five of their first
six possessions.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
They had four or five drives of sixty yards or more.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
The defense couldn't stop anybody, so and the offensive one
didn't protect the quarterback well either.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
So it wasn't just a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
He was now he wasn't the solution either, but it
certainly wasn't just a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Is it possible the team itself was shell shocked from
the Daniel Jones news on Friday?
Speaker 4 (00:54):
No, I don't think so. I thought the energy in
the locker room on Friday was pretty good from all accounts. Uh,
the energy on the practice field on Friday was pretty good.
They just came out and were flat and played really
bad football.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
So and then to make matters worse. Uh, Saquon goes off.
I know it's it's a better team, better line, but
that was quite the performance last night.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
He played great.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
And look, he's a guy that can break a long
run on any down. And when you combine that with
with a good offensive line and a and a good
offense with with pretty good weapons around him, that's what
you get.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Three ndred and five yards. That's pretty incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
The Washington Cowboys game. Thank god for the red zone
for me, I had ideas yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
The end of that Commander's Cowboys game was unbelievable. It
was one like holy you know what moment to the
next it was bombosh.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
It was how many touchdowns in like the last four
minutes or something?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Was yeah, yeah, yeah, Turpin's kick return for a touchdown.
Then you had the dye Ardo mccorrn to tie it,
and then you had the uh the on site kick
return for a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Just absolutely crazy game.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
That was a wild game. Hey, let's go back to
the Giants for a second one. Actually, just Daniel Jones.
So I hear he clears waivers the staff un and
could sign with somebody, and he's looking for contenders. Did
you hear the same thing.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yeah, none of that would surprise me. That all sounds
right to me. He Look, I'm not going to tell
Daniel what to do, but if I were him, you know,
going to a contender would be great. I think I
would prioritize. If you're choosing between different ones, go to
a team that has a really good offensive infrastructure where
you can learn, right, whether that Sean McVay and the Rams,
(02:33):
whether like like Baker Mayfield went there, whether it's Kyle Shanahan,
the forty nine Ers, that's where Sam Donald went right,
Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings, Well that's where Sam Donald
wound up. You know, go to a place where they
have a really good offensive infrastructure, where you can sit there,
you can learn a new system, you can get with
the coach that really knows how to coach offense and
(02:54):
start to figure things out. I would not prioritize. It
doesn't sound like he is based on what the reports are.
You know, don't try to play with the Raiders, you know,
go go to some team where you'll get to play
for the situation's bad, you know, try to follow that
Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Pat Right, and find a really
good offensive coach to attack yourself.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Even what screw Daniel Jones? What about the Giants?
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Come on, now, Giants are in a full on rebuild
right now, and I think the best thing you can
do is get a high draft pick.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I mean honestly, yes, they're gonna work their butt off
to win games, obviously, but look, yeah, I mean at
this point, with your record at two and nine and
without having your quarterback in the building, this is not
a win now situation.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
So it is what it is, right, all right?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
So what's Daniel Jones' contract length when he signed for
a team for the rest of this year, this year,
and next year, this just this year?
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Yeah, I would imagine this, and this would probably be
an end of this year scenario. I don't think this
would be a multi year deal at this point, you know.
I think after this, you know, small part of the year,
he could probably decide to go sign somewhere else if
he wanted to. But yeah, I would I would imagine
this is a one year deal and then he would
pick where he wants to go in the offseason. They'll
be probably a decent amount of teams that are looking
(04:06):
for quarterbacks. It's not a great quarterback draft, So if
he wants to go start somewhere, I think he might
be able to find that. But again I think I
would prioritize just, you know, same thing as this year.
Prioritize finding a good spot and then just just take
guys A brief story. So we talked on Friday morning,
and by then Daniel had not requested his release yet
right from the team, so he eventually, you know, I'm
(04:27):
walking around and I'm like, why is the middle of
the afternoon while meetings a going Why is Daniel Jones
walking around the facility and like Khaki's in like a
quarter zip sweater. And then I quickly figured out what
was going on, and you know, the whole thing upstairs
had already happened. And the guy goes around like everybody
in the building, including every single cafeteria worker, is like
shaking their hands, giving them hugs. It just shows kind
(04:47):
of like what type of guy it was. And really, well,
even though I know fans are ready for the error
to be over, and I get that, for the people
that know the guy and for the people in the building,
it was a pretty emotional day to be quite all.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Right yet at home would have been nice.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
You are flying today? Oh my god?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
How much did the Giants have to pay Daniel Jones?
And for how long?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
In total?
Speaker 4 (05:12):
It would end up being a two year contract for
just over eighty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
But what are they paying him? That's what are they
paying him to leave?
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Next year they will have and and and and this
is included in that total by the way, that I
gave you for the two years, So next year they
will be on the hook for twenty million dollars of
the dead cap line.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, will that hamper the Giants moving forward?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
No, it shouldn't that much, to be honest with you,
and and and that's why they structured the contract the
way they did. The Giants are I think they're going
to have right now based on a lot of the
estimates out there are bards of like sixty million dollars
of cap space next offseason, so they're going to have
a ton of money to spend, so they should not
be constrained by that. One of the reasons they didn't
make them. That's what's called the post June first cut,
(06:01):
where you can kind of spread that twenty million over
two years. It would be ten and twenty twenty five,
ten and twenty twenty six. You can't do that if
you cut the guy during the regular season the way
they did, so they'd rather just take their take their
punishment in one year and then you get that twenty
million back the following year. But the Giants and the
way Joe Shane has structured the contracts on this team,
they are in excellent shape from the salary cap perspectives.
So they should be able to add some veteran free
(06:22):
agents to help this team in the offseason, as well
as to add whoever they can in the draft. And
they should get an extra compick too for losing Saquonto
the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
So put all that together.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
And they should have some resources in the offseason to hopefully.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Get better relatively quickly.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Is Daniel Jones taking anyone down with him? People gotta
lose their job over this.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Are there other people that now want to go? No?
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Look, John Morris Bolt earlier this year he said he
does not anticipate making any change at the end of
the year.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Look, they've also lost.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
I think what do they have to six straight now?
So it has not gone well. Obviously, we got to
see how the rest of the season plays out, and
nothing's gonna happen during the season.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
But look, I mean, you never know.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
I'm not gonna, you know, tell you what mister Marra
is going to do or not as the season. I
don't know the answer to that. I love Joe, I
love Brian Dable. I think they're both good guys and
good people. I would never advocate for either one of
those guys to, you know, for them to make a change,
because I think they're good people and I know them.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
They're my friends. But look, it is what it is.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Right now, you're two and nine and you just got
blown out at home by the Buck. So let's see
how the final six games go.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Bear's Lions on Thursday, right, that was.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
The Thursday games. This weegue, I'm not even sure to.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Be honest, that's the game Giants, Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Hale Williams has played a lot better since they've changed
offensive coordinators.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I think it's just to bring it home, John, like
you said it with the Daniel Jones going around, thank
you people for us, we're over here, like, make a change,
fire that guy for you. Guys. Those are your friends
and co workers and they're real people.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Don't.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
We don't see that from up here, you.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Know, right, yeah, and exactly, And you know, and I
don't blame fans for that because I was a fan
growing up, but I was a twenty two year old kid,
you know, rooting for the Yankees or Nickson whoever. You
can go out and say those things, you don't have
those personal relationships, which is why what I try to
do is best I can is explain to people like
in the building, how these guys are thought of and
what the relationships are like, just so they have a
(08:14):
feel for what a move like this is. So one
from the outside of might be all at the new beginning,
this is awesome, and he's unperformed. This is you know,
he's been terrible. When you have a guy that's as
good of a guy as him leaving after being here
for the six years that he was and really making
an impact on the building and how we carry himself.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
And I think that's why.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
The Giants kept giving him chances, right because he worked
so hard, he was such a good guy, and you
figure a person like that would figure it out and
it just never happens. So well, an exciting, exciting time
for the fan base where you're kind of starting over
a quarterback. Now, the tough part starts, by the way,
where you have to find the next quarterback, which is well,
you know, you guys know not easy. Uh you know,
moving on from Daniel give him the type of guy
(08:50):
he was, it was not an easy thing to do
in the building.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Will you be having will you have the football game
on during your your Thanksgiving dinner?
Speaker 2 (08:57):
He's working it.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Working, Yeah, I'll have the pro I'll be pre and
post game.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
So what's going on? So we will be here. I
will be at the facility doing pre and post game
in New Jersey. So I believe they're ordering like some
kind of Thanksgiving thing in for us. And then my
wife is then cooking a Thanksgiving dinner on Friday for me,
so that I appreciate that for her, an excellent job
out of her.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Then Game four kickoff on Thursday.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Yeah, it's right in the middle of the day.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yeah, I know, you could do it noon maybe, but
probably probably not. Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah it was noon.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
I would do the game, and then I would I
would drive down to my sister's house where they're doing
Thanksgiving on Thursday. But no, this is now I think
through three out of the last six years we've had
a Thanksgiving game.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Which is it's just the worst. I hate it, but
it is.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
What it is.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
It is part of the game, all right, part of
the gig. I get it.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
And look, we've had Thanksgiving three out of six. Last
year we had the game on Christmas. We've got to
get you on Christmas Eve, I think three or four
years ago. So when you're a big market team and
it's a holiday and working football.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
It's part of the deal. It sucks, but it's part
of the deal.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Imagine if you guys were winning the Prime Giant. Yeah,
all right, So we're off on Thanksgiving. So I have
a great Thanksgiving and we'll come back here and we'll
reconvene next Monday.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
A right, John, That sounds good, boy.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Day
