(00:03):
And now from the New York Giantsbroadcast team, It's John Schmelk. Good
morning, guys, who Good morningJohnny Man's us hell of a morning for
Giants fans. I went to sleepearly. Some people gave up on the
game, John, Can you believeit? Yes? Well, all right,
(00:27):
so thanks for doing this. Bythe way, because you're you're in
what California? Now? We arestill in Tempe. We'll be in Tentpe
for the next few days. We'regoing to San Francisco on Wednesday. Okay,
So where do they practice this week? I was on the state Okay,
Okay, so let's talk about theGiants game. It was a great
second half. What were the werethere obvious adjustments that day? Ball made
(00:49):
I think the only thing I haven'tgone back and then we watched the game.
Yet today I was gonna do it. Literally, I just woke up.
I was gonna do it now.I think they tried to sell the
ball down the field a little bit. Remember they had last night, they
played an off yesterday they play anoffensive line were they only had one guy
in there that played basically, youknow, more than one full season in
their career. And that player gothurt earlier in the games. I think
(01:11):
they were playing a pretty conservative offensein the first half, trying to protect
the offensive line. But in thesecond half, I think they said,
you know what, we're down pointingand nothing. We gotta take some risk
here, we gotta take some chances. And if that means, you know,
DJ gets sacked a little bit,so be it. And the offensive
line held up and they just threwa ball down the field a little bit
more and the offense looked explosive itwas. I mean, did the Giants
make the Cardinals look good or didthe Cardinals play good? They look pretty
(01:34):
good to me, it's a goodquestion. I think it's probably a little
bit of both. To be honestwith you, I think the Cardinals played
a good first half, but theGiants also did some things I think to
hurt themselves the way they played.Look, Giants first six quarters of football
this year was bad football. Theygot off sCOD sixteen to nothing. But
their second half of football games Arizonawas phenomenal and maybe the best half of
(01:55):
football they've played under the Dable regime, and in a lot of way so
well. I don't have a greatexplanation for it to be honest with you,
I don't, but you know it'sfootball. Weird things happen. And
now you got a really tough gameon Thursday night, and I was going
to say, can you carry youknow, some semblance of that excitement into
San Francisco? I mean tough team, right, yeah. Look, and
(02:19):
you can't sleep walk through a halflike they did this weekending in San Francisco
because the Niners are too good. You're not going to be able to come
back and beat them. So theGiants have to put a complete game together.
And you don't like the fact thatthey played a half like that,
and you needed, you know,be able to to quote what he said
after the game, be stern withthem at halftime and let them know what
(02:42):
they need to do to succeed towin games. You know that that shouldn't
be necessary, especially after coming offa bad first week like they had against
You're either really you're either really sleepyor you're sharing a room with somebody that
you're not trying to wake up orsomething because you were so on fire on
Friday. It's just a huge difference. I know, I just wonder what
the setting is over there. It'sI feel like some hampering still in bed.
(03:06):
Oh yeah, I set my alongfor literally five minutes before our phone
call. So yes, we appreciate, we appreciate. What is the least
well? Can you tell us onsa Quan's ankle and will he be available
Thursday? Yeah, there were reportlast night that he sprained his ankle.
They don't think it's the high anklespring. They'll run some tests today,
they'll see where they're at. Ithink Thursday's probably a big ask given the
(03:30):
quick turnaround, but it looks likethey at least they avoided a more serious
injury, which is which is goodobviously. What was going through your mind
when the Giants give up sixty straightpoints in a game and a half?
I mean, what were you thinking? I was thinking, this is the
first year I'm doing the postgame show, and I'm gonna have to talk about
this team losing to them. Probablywhat most people thought was what was going
(03:53):
to be the worst team in football? For two hours after this game and
holing God's name, am I goingto handle this? Because the fans are
going to be out for blood? But thank goodness, and started fourth quarter
they played really well and then upbeing a really really joyous post game,
so which I went to bed,you know, expecting can Terra's putting you
on the spot, on the spot, and you said, probably a two
(04:14):
score wine, which in your defensecould have been two field goals. It's
a good ending, and you know, it was funny. And on the
pregame show, I said, youknow, I thought they'd played really well.
I thought they had a four underyards of offense. And I'm sitting
there, I'm sitting there at halftime and I'm like, oh man,
I'm gonna look like a damn fool. But you know, that's that's why
it's a sixteen minute game and nota thirty minute game. Right, So
(04:36):
a couple of key penalties there, right, Like didn't they call back Jones
is wrong run for a touchdown? And in the first half the Giants had
a couple of penalties. They hadan interception and I got called back for
a defensive pass interference, which whichby the way, was the right call.
And then it was pretty cool inthe second half once the Giants started
playing. Well, you know, there were a lot of giant fans in
(04:57):
the crowd, you know, Orizonegot a lot of giant fans there,
and the I got so loud. They actually forced a few fall star penalties
on the Cardinals wait in the gamebecause the Giants fans got so loud,
which is which was pretty cool. All those retired folks living living in the
warm weather so greatly hang out.So what do you think, Zach?
The answer Wilson is still the answer. I told you he was gonna have
(05:20):
off weekend to get Dalla said, that's exactly what happened. I just fight
hard to with the Jets. You'regonna continue to let him do this?
Yeah, just still derailing. Imean, it kind of happened all at
once. I just don't know whatthey're what the better option is. I
agree, I think they're gonna lookfor somebody else, But like, is
(05:40):
Carson Wentz. The option is CarsonWentz? The answer is you know,
Matt Ryan. I mean, Ijust I just don't know what the better
choices right now. I agree,if they really want to do something this
year, they need a better quarterback. I just don't know what the answer
is there, to be honest withyou, And then I'm just looking at
some of the other scores. Seeo Oliver Detroit surprised me. I'm not
sure how much football you actually watched, and we shouldn't worry about Joe Burrow
(06:01):
alright, he started owing to lastyear. Yeah, I mean I think
maybe that calf is still hampering hima little bit, so maybe that could
be an issue here, he saidafter the game. It's still very sore,
and that's something that you know, maybe keep an eye on that.
But overall, what I worry aboutJoe Burrow, No, he's he's awesome,
and the Ravens defense is also prettydarn good. So no, I
(06:23):
wouldn't worry about that. I thoughtgoodwin by Seattle that you know, oh
two, that's a tough hole fromthem to climb out of, you know,
even though they lost, I thoughtthe Rams put a nice effort fourth,
even that game close against San Francisco, which I think you gotta give
credit for that. About the fieldgoal, yeah, I don't know how
plugging you are. It was itwas the Jet the Niners needed to win
(06:43):
by eight, and the spread,Yeah, they kick that field goal.
Is he aware of the spread? No, But what that is is that
you basically you make it a onescore game so you can get the on
side kick, whether it's a fieldgoal or a touchdown. There was three
seconds left when he when they kickedit. There was no time when it
went through the upright. Oh?Was there zero time when it went through
(07:04):
the upright? Yeah? Oh okay, I can see why people are upset
about Beat on TV. Beat.Oh yeah, that beat all right?
Man, Well, we appreciate yougetting up early for us. Have a
good short week out west, andwe'll check in with you Thursday morning.
That's cool, Johnny Schmelly, wecan figure that out, all right,
(07:25):
