Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, we get are doing this, we're getting into this.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I mean, I don't feel like there's much to do
on my part.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
So that's where somebody certainly sees herself in a different lay.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I don't think I do.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Oh my, okay, Well, yesterday was a big day. Yesterday
Emily and I went to go see Thor's baby for
the first time, which was cool, very exciting to see
Thor's baby, little baby Walker, little giant baby walker. It
is wild to think about this kid. I mean, he's

(00:34):
twice the size of what most newborns look like. Yeah,
it was eleven pounder.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah, which is like makes it easier kind of to
hold him, because you know how when.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
They're so teeny tiryay, it's hard to hold him. You
feel like you're going to break them.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
All right, why didn't Sky go, Well, the boo is
dealing with some sort of sickness. Yeah, that is true,
what it is. Yes, so you didn't want to risk
it yet. So we'll be able to see the baby soon. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
I want to make sure I'm coming from a germ
free home before I go over there, because I know
how Thor like is a hypochondract with his pets. So
I couldn't imagine if I brought the Sniffles into his house.
You have no idea he would hate me for the
rest of my life.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
We walked in and both Emily and I were sprayed
down with purel.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Spray our hands in our whole body, yes, your whole body.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
It was. It was a quite extreme Oh my god. Okay,
so that did happen. Yeah, but it was great. Haley's
doing great. We're going to talk to Thorn tomorrow get
an update on what it all has been going on
and all that Thor is a lot. Let me just
say that he's been a lot understatement of the sect.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yes, oh my god.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
So we'll get into all that though tomorrow. But before
we before we get there, oh no, there has been
quite the situation going on with this whole visitation of
the baby. Now. I know Emily, she's so predictable. I
knew this was going to happen. Really, I saw this
coming a mile away. Who was going to be the

(02:02):
first person to see the baby? Oh yeah, I could
have told you if you would have asked me months
ago before the baby got here. Who's going to try
to be the first person to see the baby? It's
gonna be emily. It's gonna be emily.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Not a competition.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
But you you are acting like it's not. But I
know in your heart of hearts you're acting like it is.
Your actual behavior, actual behavior shows me that I know
how you are. You were going to be the first
no matter what, to see the baby.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Okay, fine, I'm not going to argue with you because
that's not true.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Well, then how do we how do we explain this easily?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
But I'm gonna like, I don't want to jump the
gun here, so I'll jump all over your jumping.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Wait, it's a very valid thing.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
So this does all basically come down to a meal train.
This so apparently at the baby shower, yes, there was
a sign up sheet for a meal train for the

(03:06):
two of them. What's a meal train? Well, if somebody
has surgery or super sick or whatever, or has some
sort of issues somebody, Yes, that's a big one where
they're not able to cook for themselves or whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
They're overwhelmed or something.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Right, you do this meal train with some friends and
family members where you drop by and bring some food
or whatever so they don't have to cook. And so,
because Ailey was having a C section, and they knew
this way back when, and they knew that she's the
only one that cooks. Store doesn't cook, like they were
kind of screwed. And so you could sign up for
this meal train for a couple of weeks while they're recovering,

(03:42):
well she's recovering or not doing anything totally. And so
you could either bring a meal or you could sign
up for like a door dash thing or whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
That's which one I chose.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
You guys, this guys guy's not cooking anything, so you're
door dashing it that whole thing.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Oh yeah, Oh definitely a nice door dash gift car.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
And Haley and.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Baby Walker, I'm wondering what they're gonna do with that
because Thor doesn't want to do apps.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I know, I was thinking about it.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
It has to be on Haley's phone, right y, Yeah,
she's gonna do it. Yeah, So anyway, and.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Then he's going to be angry even though he's not
paying for it and it's a gift card, you know
that he's still going to deep down be angry that.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
There's wait till he starts seeing those fees and the
delivery fees and all that stuff. It's a lot.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
So Emily of course was at the baby shower.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
She's signed up, Yeah, phone numbers, and I think that's
what it was.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Yeah, And my wife was at the baby shower and
she signed me up for the meal train because.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Her name put your name no, yeah, oh.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
With my number. Yes, that's how I got it. I
got signed up because I obviously wouldn't have been able
to do it otherwise. And she's not cooking. She knows
I'm going to cook, and so she signed me up
for this thing and I go, okay, no, that's fine,
not a big deal. Well, we get a text thread
with everybody that had signed up for said meal train,
and like, I'm not even sure who's running this thing

(04:58):
because I don't know the number they put all like
all of these wild instructions about the meal train and
what you're supposed to do with the meal train with
a Google doc sign up sheet and all this stuff,
and I'm just I mean, it was like so long,
and I'm like, what are you like Thors sitting right here,
I can just ask him, Hey, when do you need food?

(05:20):
Like okay, and like we're not supposed to disturb them,
and all these things. Literally the instruction says that you're
instructed to bring the meal. I got to drive all
the way down to Tula Vista, by the way, which
is a thirty minute drive from where I live, drop
off a meal in the cooler and not disturb anyone.

(05:41):
And what the hell would I do that? The dogs?
Who are you telling me what I can do? And
I can just text my friend and say, hey, dude,
you want a food? All right, I'll bring you food.
And I can I say hi. I'm a say hi
to the baby. It really pissed me off. Well, you
don't tell me what to do. Better better friends with
thorn than you are to whoever, this random person again

(06:04):
a little competitive, This is tell me what to do.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Okay, Well they're not telling you, they're just saying this
is no They were well, this is.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
The process, bs, you don't make the rules. They really
really bothered me. It really bothered me. So and then
you go and click on the Google sign up sheet.
This was a mess and you had to have the
app to even signing on the phone.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Well, first the document was locked.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
So I'm thinking, I'm eighty years old and I can't
figure out how to use a Google doc. And I'm
like I'm asking my sixteen year old daughter, can you
please help me? But yes, but then eventually they unlocked
it and then you had to if you didn't already
have the app charge download it.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Okay, see so competitive s what is this competitive about that?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
I don't know if you wanted to be in charge?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Oh I don't at all.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
You just don't.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
I don't. I don't think there needs to be any
of this.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
No stupid, no meal trained at all.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Well, first of all, do we really need a meal train? Like?
I mean, they're not invalids? Like okay, like it's helpful,
Okay this first couple of days, sure, okay, what are
we doing here? Oh?

Speaker 2 (07:09):
For two weeks?

Speaker 3 (07:10):
It is a lot because it was I participated in
many a meal trains. I mean I've got friends with
the baby. Oh wait, we died afterwards. That's very very
childish and braddye.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Right.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Usually I'll tell you Usually it's like once or twice
a week, right, so like like they'll have to say
it would be a Tuesday and a Thursday for this week.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
That's it. But this was a little.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Teenage you sign up for every day?

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, day, every day for two weeks, two weeks all.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Right, whatever. So I see this, I have to download
the app to be able to edit on this thing,
and I go, I'm not doing this. This is so stupid. Okay,
I'm not going to do it, and I'll just bring
them whenever I go see the baby, I'll just bring
them something and there you go. Enjoy. Manja, Okay, Manja,
you're just gonna not do the I don't care. I

(08:01):
know you're not telling me what to do.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I'm not trying to tell you, but I kind of
feel like, hey, if somebody lays out the rules of the.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Game you got, they're not in charge. I feel like
somebody put them in charge of I don't care. Like
Hayley was like, cool, you're in charge of the milch.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Not not doing it. Just text door. You're just gonna
ask them what do you want?

Speaker 2 (08:20):
There's a system in place.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Don't care. You hate, I'm going rogue. You're fighting, I'm
going rogue. I don't care. Like it really bothered me
from top to bottom. So first thing we find out
is that a buddy of ours signed up for the
first day on Monday, and apparently they brought them like
a ten pound lasagna, and I go, well, that's we're done.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
That's like food for the sweet for the week.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's literally is food for the week. Like, do they
need anything else? A ten pound lasagna?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah? Like what the hell? That is so much, very kind.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
And my thought was I'm gonna make something easy like
rigatoni pasta or something like that. That's out the window
now because if you have a lasagna, I don't think
you want an Italian pasta to go along with that.
So that that threw me off. I'm like, what that now?
What am I gonna do? This makes no sense? But
the real issue, No, I knew this was coming the

(09:14):
first chance she gets the chance. Okay, the first day
was signed up for what's the next day? The next
day was Tuesday, yesterday, Emily jumped Friday in signs and
signs and and what because somebody wants see the baby.
Somebody wants to.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
I didn't want to. There was somebody on Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
I didn't want to do it on Thursdays, the day
before my birthday party, by like, I'm going out for
my birthday on Friday. So the only day that worked
is the only day I.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Know where to. God, I know what's going.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Wait, you can't do it. The day before you're gonna
go out. I'm gonna your birthday.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
I'm gonna be doing my nails and prepping like all out.
So I know I'm not gonna want to cook. I'm
not gonna want to cook an a labor meal.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
So that's that's birthday.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Seriously. I mean, it's just so I knew this was
going to happen. I knew first chance she was going
to get. She wanted to be the first person to
see the baby, all that stuff. So she signs up
for Tuesday, and so she's going to bring a meal
down even though they have you know, this giant vat
of the lasagna. You don't really need food, but whatever.
So Emily's rolling in on Tuesday. Well, okay, that's not

(10:23):
happening on my watch. What do you mean she's on
those get to see the baby first because I just
signed up. I know what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I shot them at text.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yeah, I know what you were doing, not doing anything.
So I immediately shot door text and I said, Okay,
Emily's coming on Tuesday. Guess who else is coming on Tuesday? Guessesday,
guess who else is coming on Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
It's insane with you guys, I followed the freaking rules.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Like you don't act like you don't know what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
It was the only day that worked for me, and
I knew I wanted. I don't want to wait two
weeks to see the baby.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
That's weird. Where as close as friends, well that's what
you're we see the four every day was life so.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Right, So I should be the one. I should be
the one to see the baby.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
You could see the baby whenever I did, and I did.
I know you did, so I know you, guys.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Said number eight, number one, you just got a vat
of lasagna and Emily's bringing food. This makes no sense
for me to bring food, like I don't understand what
the hell this dumble steel train is.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
It makes no sense because your name isn't on the
meal train for Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I don't care why. I don't care about anybody bring.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Food on a Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I'm going to see the baby. I'm not going to
make a separate trip to come drop off, throw food
in a cooler and then just leave. That seems insane
to me. Okay, so I'm not doing this, but I
got it, you know, I mean, I got signed up
for this dumb meal train, and so I shot thor text, which,
oh crazy am I am? I going off protocol here? Oh? No,

(11:49):
no is everything is everything? Amiss security there? Don't care?

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Why are your British?

Speaker 1 (11:55):
I don't know. I don't know who this person is
that they could be British.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
It is I don't know, sugary nice woman.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
So I shot the text and I said, hey, man,
it sounds like you got tons of food. Emily bringing
food to you?

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Sorry, I'm sorry, Oh don't you say that?

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Would you like a dessert?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Right right? And he immediately texts back, what do you think?

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Bro?

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Absolutely? And so I said done unless you have something different? Okay,
So I'm going to bring a dessert. Well apparently what
that upset Emily too? What is this chick? What is
this chick?

Speaker 3 (12:34):
I know that thorn Hay love desserts, and so aside,
I made them Greek chicken bowls because I know they
love the protein and stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
I made everything homemade. It's zeke, homemade hum mus, all
the stuff and true.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
I mean I know that they would love something because
they had Thank you are and I also so I.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Made Little Reese's peanut butter bars. What you made dessert.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
In addition to what happened to the healthy and lean as.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
I knew that they would want a little something, a
little something sweet at the end, because I know they
live dessert sort made?

Speaker 1 (13:03):
That Is that on the list? Is that on the list?

Speaker 2 (13:06):
I'm signed up for the meal train.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
You brought your you're train.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Break meals if you're outside of me.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Train don't matter to me. I do what I want.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Insane you jumped on your meal train spot or that's
messed up.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Listen, I still nourish them as soon as that's weird.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
They were hopped up on lasagna. I don't think you
did it. I don't think you did anything. And you
didn't bring enough?

Speaker 2 (13:34):
What what? It was a small portion? What you son
of them? Why is she so mad? What happened? Another
wild thing that happened?

Speaker 1 (13:45):
What?

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Why?

Speaker 1 (13:46):
What?

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Thorn Thor's parents.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
The flights got delayed because of the government shut down,
and so we didn't know that they had arrived yet.
So Thorn didn't think to text me and say, heads up,
my parents will be here. Walk into the house with
my Greek bulls hopping and skipping because I'm so excited
to deliver these bad boys.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
All of a sudden had to get there before me too.
By the way, I.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Didn't have to. I was on time. I was riding three.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Let me tell you. I was there at three oh one.
You were there a minute before me?

Speaker 2 (14:11):
No, you were there like three oh five.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Okay, No, I was as soon as I pulled in.
You think you think I don't.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
What are you going to look at where I parked?
It shows on my app?

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Okay, but you know me, am, I late one something.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Ahead of time, and so you got there like five
minutes late. I did not get there early, Okay, I
kept I was made sure of it.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I made sure.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Anyway, So's parents are there. She only made two bulls?
Didn't These poor parents didn't get anything? They're sitting there there. Well,
there's plenty of zanga.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Yeah, I was devastated. I was devastated that that.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Made plenty of dessert.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
This guy really wow?

Speaker 1 (14:48):
So I don't care about the meal train stupid. So
what a lovely visit we had with all this going on?

Speaker 2 (14:58):
It really was.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
It was nice. I forgave Emily for trying to for
trying to get in on this.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Who think baby Walker loves more Between the two.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Of you, there was multiple comments of I'm the baby whisper.
Look at how great he is with you, Eddie. He
really likes uncle Eddie. I mean countless people people were
coming in from the street, running in going like, is
that your child? Is that your child? Because you're handling
it so well, Emily walking around every time Emily and

(15:27):
the baby started.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Getting actually have the baby for a few minutes. I
held the baby.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
It's true, that's not true. That's a bull that's a
bull face. Lie. Well now we're just telling him by
some fibbs.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I was walking around the baby, I mean.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Because it was fussy. You're sitting there pinching him.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
We're not doing this with you too.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
So anyway, okay, great time, great time with the baby.
Baby is doing great. Here, don't sign me up for
no meal trains. I hate.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I want to put your name on there.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
