Speaker 1 (00:01):
So just last week, Emily and I had some issues
when it came to the meal train for Thor and
his wife Haley.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I didn't have issues.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
You had issues with me, well, because you.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Didn't sign up for the meal I don't.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Care about the meal trapast the rules. That's that's why. Okay,
hold on a second. I would follow rules if the
rules were made by somebody that I know. These rules
were just in placed by some random number that I
didn't even know.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Who it was.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
But you see the meal train. You don't understand how
the meal train works.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
You don't understand how the meal trap.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
This was created by somebody very close to Thorn, to Haley.
This isn't about you.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
First of all, If they're close to Thorn and Haley,
why don't why don't I know who it is?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
They have friends outside of us.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
That's impossible, It's impossible. I don't care. It's stupid.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
First of all, I thought that this was a little
aggressive on her part with whoever puts meal trained together.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
But your wife signed you up for it, I mean,
so likely.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
I didn't sign up for it, so I don't have
to participate.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I know, but she put your wife put your number
so it's like you raised You're well kind of, it's
like you raised your hand and now you're mad that
somebody called on you.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I didn't raise my hand. She raised her hand for
meat and then pointed at me. Yeah, you imagine doing
that in school.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
So so you you should have this issue with your wife,
not the meal train.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Hey, hey, you know, why don't you ever have my back?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
You?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
You don't do anything. You gave a door dash gift card. Okay,
that's what I signed up. Lame.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
I put sky parentheses door dash, just so no one
had any sort of expectations.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Whatever. Don't care. Don't care about the meal train.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Which is like Emily makes a great point. You are
probably one of the biggest rule followers.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
I know, like when laws are in place, I will follow. Well,
I mean I feel like this is the meal train law.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I mean that's insane. So I can just send out
a group text as people and be like, this is
the way it is.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
If they sign up saying I would like your group
text to tell me the way it is, then yes.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
And they didn't put you in a slot. It was
this is it.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
You could sign up a sign But I was going
on a day where you had already picked it, and
so what am I supposed to do? Maybe I have
to make a separate trip to bring a meal.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
That's insane how the train works, bro, Well, I'm jumping
off this runaway train off of it.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, sounds dangerous. Didn't care whatever? Like
they had plenty of food. It's not what am I,
you know, feeding the homeless, no capable people. But so
it can't run out to Chick fil A, of course
you can, but you know it was a little it
was excessive. As far as I've been a part of

(02:54):
meal trans I'm first.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Sky, you have too before she hasn't.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
She does cook.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
You're right, but I know them and been privy to
looking at the documents or the way that they're scheduled.
Usually it's like two meals a week for like a
month or two like, so it's spread out.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
If you have cancer. Okay, they had a baby. Let's
calm down.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Are you upset because you didn't get a meal trained
back in the.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Night, Not at all. I was cooking.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
You didn't want to.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
No, I know how to cook.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
You're just not a meal train guy in general.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Well I didn't say that either, Sky. If you get cancer.
I'll give you a meal. I'll sign up for your
dumb meal train.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Well, get a dumb meal track.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
I kind of think it's stupid, okay, but whatever, Like
there are certain things, all right, I'm in on the
meal train. I'll help you out. I got no problems
with it. So I brought a dessert chill out. I
brought a dessert, which apparently Emily was making a dessert too.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
I signed up for the meal and the meal.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I thought it was entrees only.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
It's not. I mean, it could be just an I
think that's fine too, but the point is bringing something.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
I don't understand what this is.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well, I feel like you're so.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Could I have signed up for the meal chain and
just put dessert only? Yes, okay, I think you could.
That's what I did.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Well, you didn't sign up. You didn't do I.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Did.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
I couldn't even open the document.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
That's a problem.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
It was so stupid.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I couldn't either. Yes, I had to text the girl
and have her put my thing on the date.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
If you're going to do it, you got to make
sure that we can all open up the app.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
I mean it's a Google doc. And couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I have to remember she's doing this out of the
goodness of her heart.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Yeah, yes, because she loves thorn.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Haley. What is okay?

Speaker 4 (04:32):
You do what I think you do.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I've explained.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
I don't care. I remember once. Yes you have, Yes,
you have a no number. I could have got catfished.
I have no idea you got cat anyway. This is
not even what this is about. We've already argued about this. Okay,
we got through it. I can't do it again, right,
I'm out on this dumb meal tree. Okay, done, they're fed.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
You fed?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, guess But what Emily is in on? Another meal trade?

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Not another one going? That train a.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Going on?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah? I signed up for this one long time ago too,
But is.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
This one a sickness?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
A baby? Baby? Another baby?

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah, baby, you can't cook. Sorry, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
And I'm curious because I signed up for it in
October like this baby I think was born around like
the twentieth of October October and later. Yeah, but I
got the meal train. No, actually, I think I signed
up baby was more in October. I think I got
the meal train thing by her sister, this girl's sister

(05:41):
in like beginning before the baby was born, Like she
was on it ahead of time and was like saying,
you know, sign up advance.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Could you open up the doc I could know what
it was actually on.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Like a meal trained website knows what's up.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
If there was a website, I'm all in.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Linked to a website, I'm like kind of like an
evite or something like, yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
That's the way to do it. That's the way to
do it.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Can you stop it, Eddie? Yeah? Yeah. So then I
signed up for this what two months ago? Oh so yeah,
I kind of signed up picked today do you forget
about it today? Totally forgot about it. They kind of
sent the website sends you alerts to email. Wow, I
love this, I know. So I signed up back at
the beginning of October, and then the baby was born
in the middle of October. And then it's one of

(06:29):
my close friend's daughters.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Oh wow, whoa.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
But like you're almost kind of like family, okay, that
kind of family, and it's like I'm very close with
the girls and the family. Yeah, so what's nice. So
I signed up and I signed up, so today was
the day. But yeah, it's kind of weird when I
was thinking about it, like wow, like because thorn Aley
only had their mail train for two weeks after the
baby was born. But now this baby's been here over
a month and they're still doing the store. Can't cook,

(06:54):
so can't cook. I guess kitchen don't work. But I
think theirs was more spread out too. It was like
two days a week, like over the last month or
every single day, not everything.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Okay, that's less aggressive.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
It's a little less aggresive. And so I signed up
this meal train too. You put what you're making, I
ask you, so that there's so that people could see
no reasons.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Okay, I like that.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Which is so you like this?

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Don't you in the dock? I know I can't open it,
so I have no idea. No, don't put what you're making.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Nobody put it?

Speaker 1 (07:21):
So what if everybody's repastating day? That's insane.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
The document we got was just like the date and
you fill in your name and put your phone number.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
That's like running this thing.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Okay, stop in.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Worst meal train ever?

Speaker 4 (07:34):
Okay, can you stop it?

Speaker 1 (07:36):
I stand by it.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I'm kind of waiting towards you. Okay, you should. There
should have been a column that said dish absolutely, so
you know, yes, we figured it out.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
You want to get twelve is.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Enchiladas for month, let's conceit all right?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
All right, Well it completely changed what I was going
to do because I found out Monday. The monday we
went on a Tuesday Emily and I. Monday, they got
like a ten pound lasagna, and so I was like, wow,
well I was going to bring like baked RIGATONI. I'm
not going to bring another pasta. That's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I do it, you can't do it. So I'm bringing
I'm going to bring making a soup that I make
often for myself. It's like it's like, you don't need
to say that. It's like Italian. It's kind of my
take on the zupa tiscana. It's like pasted on that.
It's like a sausage Italian, the kind of creamy soup
you don't need to roll your eyes.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
To give your famous meat loaf. Hey kill this family,
stop it.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
You need to knock it off.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
She's a healthy coocker.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Hey, I'm a healthy cooker. It's not so healthy. This
dish not as horrible, but it's not. Anyways, yesterday afternoon,
I'm you know, mentally prepping for this meal train. That's
happening today, and so it's been so long. It feels
like the baby was born last year and the baby's
already eight year old.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Yeah, talking, So I shoot a text to her and
just say, hey, I'm super excited, you know, to see
the baby finally tomorrow, checking in to.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Make sure you still want it. It feels like I was
joking around, and I go, it feels like it was
a year ago that I signed up for this. Making
sure we're still on and I'm still going to see you.
What's the best time? Thank you very much?

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Got it?

Speaker 2 (09:20):
She responds back to me, Oh my god, yes, we
would still love it. We're still very excited for you
to meet the baby. I know, it seems like it
was a year ago. And then she sends, uh, does
a big like space, and then she says a few
questions though what's in the soup? Because I think that
there might be some allergies? And also also are you vaccinated?

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Oh? Here we read it and go, huh, I'm not
really sure.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Wait what are we talking here?

Speaker 2 (09:54):
I'm not sure. I don't even know where my vaccination
card TV mom.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
She's worried about genital war.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
No idea I have no idea right now, I have
and I am vaccinated for that. Hey hey, and so
I'm thinking, like, first of all, where the hell is
that yellow car? Does my mom still have it? Like
did when the last time I brought that to the doctor?
Shows her library card? Yeah, Like, I don't know. Is
this good?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Like, I don't know where I think. I think your
elementary school nurse that car. I think that's where it is.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
You keep your vaccinations now? Yes, okay, I.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Think they're on an app.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Oh I could I could just I could just go
on my app or ask my doctor. I think it's
in the computer whatever. I'm bringing the yellow card anyway.
So I see that and then I go respond back
which vaccinations? I said, I'm not sure which vaccination? Polio question? Okay,

(10:58):
can pop? Yeah? So she writes back, D tap, oh, COVID, COVID,
booster and flu.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Get out of here to see the baby. You have
to have all four of those vaccinations. Come on, what
are you doing?

Speaker 2 (11:16):
I don't think I have any I don't think I'm
up to tap. Is that like for the step on
a rest, I'm up to date on that?

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Yeah, it's ten years is it?

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Okay? Maybe I am I have to try. Like that
one's a maybe.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Is that one on your yellow car?

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Yeah, but normally the last time they give you a
DTaP is literally when you're like a kid. So unless
you've had some sort of like issue like you've gotten
cut or something.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
I had mine, I want to say, last year detap.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Yeah, like just as a special boy, just as a regular.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
They said I was like behind on it and do
and so they ask me if I wanted to know.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
I feel like I remember that over the last ten years,
like going to a physical and them just saying, hey,
do you want to be updated on this? Like you
need it? Wow? Yeah? Yeah up, man, I think I
might be good on that one. But I don't get
a flu shot.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
What a mistake.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Idio COVID vaccines anymore?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, Like that's that's the one that I would be screwed.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
On because anybody regularly getting COVID vaccines and my.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Parents I think they get one every like two weeks.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Say, I know for sure, my mom and my dad.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, so I'm I'm screwed right back. I'm sorry. I
don't I definitely I don't know about DETAP, but I'm
for sure don't have COVID or flu, right, and she
just goes.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Oh, man, so you're not gonna be able to see
the baby.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
I'm not gonna able to see the baby. So I'm
just basically like I kind of didn't respond because this
was kind of like around eight o'clock last night, and
so I kind.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Of just well then then no meal for you, right,
no meal, no baby, no meal for.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
You, for you, for you, Yes, no, I'm still baking it. Really,
I'll see the baby from afar, I guess through the window.
The window.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Why if I'm not seeing the baby? You no soup,
no baby, No soup, baby, no soup. That works. That
is the song.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
It's about being nice and doing something nice.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Yeah, you would be nice to not require me to
have seventeen vaccines to see your dump kid. Renestly, we're
so soft and society man, man, baby dude, I used
to drink out of the hose the garden knows where
there was tons of metal and stuff coming out of

(13:30):
that thing. I'm fine, come on.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
To each his own, but yeah, I would not with
my son read I dropped his pacifier at Fashion Valley,
mall put it back in his mouth.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
You know what makes him stronger, Like this kind of
stuff you're supposed.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
To wow A great people to each his own right.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
You know me, I'll get the vaccines. If I'm required
to get a vaccine, I get it. I'm not by
any means anti vaxxer that skye. But listen, like, I
can't see your kid if I don't have a coked
fit vaccine. Like this isn't twenty twenty, it's twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I know it's so much money at snc IN, but
it's okay, Yeah, okay, I will make suit for them, yes,
suit for them.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
No sup sup for you. Honestly, if I was on
this dumb meal train you get nothing, we.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Wouldn't be on it.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
I wouldn't go, Yeah, I wouldn't go. And you're right,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
