Speaker 2 (00:15):
And as a matter of fact, he is fighting for
that truth, justice, and the American way right now in
a courtroom in Boulder. So he is currently occupied otherwise
with a legal case, and he was told that the
judge involved has given great discretion and latitude to Dan
and presenting his case. So he's going to take full
(00:35):
advantage of that opportunity. I gotta believe though, in any
kind of public courtroom, Kelly, that five pm is that's it.
They're done? Then, right, that's done. That's late. Well, it's late,
but they're not going to go past five right, So.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Dane, if they could go up to seven pm?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Are you serious? Yes? I never would have guessed that. Yes,
I wow. Okay, Well Dan's still there and if he
checks him before the end of the show, I would
say there's a puncher's chance. And he was a boxer
at one time, but I wouldn't bet on it necessarily.
So you're stuck with me, and I hope that's okay.
Kelly could scare alongside as well, your text at five
seven seven three nine, your calls at three zero three
(01:10):
seven to one three eight one six', nine and to
the phone lines we. Go because his latest in The
Denver gazette as, follows can A republican win The Governor's?
Office and this is the thought THAT i Think dan
has been espousing for quite some, time and we just
haven't been able to come up with the nominees or
the interest for the listeners to suggest who might, run
(01:32):
who could be the Next Bill. Owens And Dick wadhams
joins us to talk more about this. Again the title
of his, article can A Republican retake The Governor's? Office,
Dick welcome to The Dan Kaplis. Show sorry you have
to de old.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Me Oh. Ryan always nice to be with, You.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Always nice to have, You. Dick and you know this
is more of a thesis, statement AND i like to
see your research behind, it because nobody knows The Colorado
Republican party better than you, do and especially the history
of That Republican. Party so let's go back in time
to The halsionic days when we did have A republican
governor and his name Was Bill, owens and he was
in office for eight, years From january ninety nine To
(02:08):
january of. Seven it was a much Different colorado back.
THEN i think we both will acknowledge. That but what
Made Bill owens a winning candidate in your? Mind, well
it was.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
A different, Time, Ryan But i'm always mused when people
characterized that era as a Solid Republican colorado back, then
because it. Wasn't the fact is is that When Bill
owens got ready to run for governor in nineteen ninety,
eight AND i had the honor of being his campaign,
manager but there had been six Consecutive democratic victories for
(02:41):
Governor colorado leading up to that nineteen ninety eight, election
three By Governor Deck, lamb free By Governor Roy, Romer
and in, Fact Roy romer was leaving office with a
very high approval, rating and we were running against his Lieutenant,
Governor Gail, scheller and so it was a different. Time
but it was very difficult and very challenging even back
(03:03):
then and. Then But Bill owens ran a campaign THAT
i still think is relevant. Today he ran on a
very substance mainstream conservative, agenda count, taxes reform, education and improved.
Transportation he had detailed policy positions behind every one of those,
(03:26):
points and he became the first governor in twenty eight
years to be. Elected and now after as you point,
out he served eight, years he now is the Only
republican governor in the past fifty four years because we,
frankly we've had a lot of good people run for
governor and nobody who's ever matched What Bill owens put
together back in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Eight the reason WHY i agree with, You, dick that
twenty twenty six could be, different is there's no clear
kind of anointed, one shall we. Say on The democrat,
side you have a two term governor In jared who
will be departing office term. Limited and you have some
names that people will recognize on the left who are
running Like phil nonn The, wiser The Attorney, general and
(04:08):
they're A Nate Michael, Bennett senator looks like he may
very well throw his hat into the. RING a lot
of people talking About Joe, nogose The, congressman who is
considered to be in a rising, stock shall we, say
In democratic, circles and yet on The republican, side we,
know AND i just spoke about this With Brida horn
And i've talked To Darcy, shaning and there's a power
struggle within The Republican party that appears to continue now
(04:29):
for the state Of colorado that there isn't a lot
of organization and unity on The republican. Side so as
you break down this race as it stands right, Now,
dick it just seems like there's a lot up in
the air that we don't.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Know we don't, Know, ryan and frankly you Mentioned Senator.
BENNETT i would speculate if he actually gets in this,
race and it looks like he's going to from WHAT i,
hear he will clear the. Field there will be No democratic.
Primary he will because as A Us, senator he will
raise so much money so quickly that all the other
(05:01):
potential Candidates, Sweiser Jennet, Griswold Joannah goose.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Will defer to.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Him and so that's kind of an unexpected. Development that's
where it. Is your comment about The Republican party is
a dumpster, fire and that's being.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Charitable and.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
What really matters is THAT i don't care who gets
elected state chairman in a couple of. Weeks the only
thing that matters is The Colorado Republican party actually going
to try to cancel the twenty twenty Six republican primary
and thereby denying nine hundred and fifty Thousand republicans the
ability to have a role in our nomination process that
(05:44):
is on the. Table Dave williams and one of the,
Candidates Lori, sain have absolutely made it their agenda to
kill the. PRIMARY i don't know Where Darcy shanning is
on this.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
ISSUE i hope.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Somebody asks, her BUT i will tell you if they do,
that you can kiss this election goodbye from. Us Friendly
durank governor down the County.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Commissioner Dick wadam is joining. Us former chair of The
Colorado Republican party himself in a party that's lost its,
way definitely dating back to when you were the, Chair,
Dick AND i don't know that you can point to
any one thing as to why we got to where we.
Are And i'm sure you've thought a lot about, this
both on the air and, off but as you can
best break it, down how can you quantify exactly what
(06:29):
was the descent of this party in your? Mind And
i'm talking at the state level, here not necessarily that
it was tied To Donald. Trump perhaps it was in
some derivative, way but how we got, here what's your
best analysis on?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
That, well starting in twenty, Eleven, ryan around, there we
started having this mancin plus of people and now eight
hundred thousand new people have moved To colorado since. Then
that's why we got a new eight congressional, district and
that's why the car readily electorate has dramatically. Changed we
(07:04):
used to be a third third to third Third, republican Theyird,
democrat third. Unaffiliated we are now just under fifty percent,
unaffiliated about twenty six Percent, democratic twenty three Percent. Republican
and the problem with these new arrivals is if they're,
younger they're more liberal, socially but more, importantly every poll
shows they don't Like Donald. Trump and that's Why trump
(07:26):
Lost colorado by, four, fourteen and eleven and the three
times that he ran his run for.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
President and so that's.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
That's that's the political. Reality that is the electorate that
we're dealt with right. Now we've got to have in
order to win a big race from this point, Forward
we've got to have candidates to emerge of. It talk
about the issues that people care, about Because democrats are
giving us an. OPENING i, mean this state is literally
going downhill because of all the craft coming out of
(07:56):
state legislature and Governor polish agrees.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
With and so.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
We're still early in this. Cycle BUT i see.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
A glimmer of.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Possibility but not if we nominate somebody who wants to
talk about stolen elections and killing the primary and Pardoning
Pina peters and all that. Crap if we nominate somebody like,
that forget about. It but if we nominate somebody who
is Like bill On, ones who talks about the real,
issues who runs an aggressive, campaign we might have a.
(08:25):
Shot we'll just have to see what.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Happens And, dick here's the, thing and the only COMPARISON
i can make where this maybe has succeeded is a
state that electorally somewhat resembles, ours and That's, virginia Where
Glenn youngkin was able to run through on a particular,
issue and this was parents being boxed out of their children's,
education and especially in Those coller counties Around washington D.
(08:47):
C in Northern virginia where the margins For terry mccaulliffe
were just chipped away at The uncle didn't win, there
but he didn't lose by as. Much and yet he
was able to run that campaign on the strength of
his own policy, position his own. Personality he's very. Likable
he didn't distance himself necessarily From Donald, trump but he
didn't wrap himself so called in the mag of. Flag
(09:08):
SO i just see this as a very tight path
you've got to walk because you don't want to piss
Off trump supporters and alienate. Them they need to be
part of this solution. Too but how Does colorado maybe
find its Next Glenn? Youngkin how would you arrive at that? Square?
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Dick, Well, Ryan first of, all that is an excellent
example of what needs And Glenn youngkin is a huge success.
Story and there is a lot of comparability Between virginia
And colorado in terms of what happened to the two.
ELECTORATES i, Mean virginia was truly A republican state and
then we have this massive growth as you point, out
(09:44):
in The virginia suburbs Around. Washington but that's but they
also had a, very very tough primary In, virginia a
very tough nomination, process, Right and, Frankly, ryan it was
his opponent With State Senator Amanda, chase who she. Wanted
(10:04):
she was so far out on this so an election.
Stuff she Wanted Donald trump to declare martial law after
he lost in twenty. Twenty now has she been nominated
in this? Campaign that campaign mccaulliff would have won that
race by twenty points for. More and that goes back
who we nominate, matters the kind of campaign, matters And
(10:25):
Glenny younkin was he developed an agenda that could. Win
he was aggressive and confronting, Mccaulliff but that wouldn't have
happened Under Amanda. Chase primaries matter and that's a great example.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Of that and looking to keep our primaries in. Existence
Dick wadhams taking that, POSITION i definitely agree with, You.
DICK i want the people Of, colorado the, voters to
have agency and a participation in that selection, process not
to close it off from people that might lose interest
if they don't have that vote and that. Voice you
can read his latest in The Denver gazette entitled Can
(11:00):
republican retake The governor's? Office it's a, question and we
don't have a lot of answers at this, point But
Dick watdams is trying to get there as the former
chair of The Colorado Republican party. Himself dick always grateful
for your, time your. Analysis thank you so much for
joining me.

lot of us to. Hear he is definitely not A
trump SUPPORTING Maga, republican but we want to hear from.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Right as a pretty, diver big ten, person you were
a big ten. Athlete don't sell yourself. Short but, yeah
there was a guy walking out of the. Arena as
my brother AND, i you, know we enjoyed. It they
had cannons on stage and explosives for for those about to,
rock which is. We celeriot was the best that they
ended with that they. Did of, course you can't top.
Cannons cannon's out. There oh so. Awesome by the. Way fun,
(14:37):
fact if you're listening from outside The denver, area you've
never encountered my, Program Ryan Showling. Life that is my
theme song for those about to. Rock we salute YOU.
Acdc but this guy coming, out he didn't have air
plugs and he was, PROBABLY i don't, know in his
thirties at the. Times oh, man, anything my here's a ringing.
Dude Like i'm, Like i'm thinking about that guy right.
(14:57):
Now he's probably.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
DEAF i did not have earplugs, either AND i was
closer than you.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Were how did you not lose your?
Speaker 3 (15:04):
HEARING i have pretty good hearing up my. Eyesight on the, hand,
well that's.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
The thing you probably compensate with better hearing than most
people because you need to hear better because you can't
see as.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Well, yeah, well you, KNOW i guess there's some sort of.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
On the spinal tap scale of one to. Eleven volume,
wise it was about a seventeen oh twenty. Three they
were it was very. Loud, yes let's get some, texts
and as, usual they're pretty. Spicy in the aftermath of.
A Dick wadham's, appearance we love him. Here, Okay dick
(15:41):
AND i are on very good. TERMS i love interviewing.
HIM i don't agree with everything he. Says he didn't
Support Donald trump this last time. Around that was on.
Him that's up to. Him that's. Fine BUT i like
hearing his perspective because he does have a record of
success With John. Fune he Mentioned Bill, owens he ran that.
Campaign you, Know republicans were winners When dick was running the.
Party i'm gonna, say you, know, look let's look at the.
(16:02):
Scoreboard that's what it. Says but The texters Thou doff. Disagree,
ryan could you tell IRRELEVANT tds Suffering Rhino Dick watams
that we don't want him back as The colorado G
O pea. Chair he has not been relevant In republican
politics in twenty five. Years go, Away? Dick did he
was he angling?
Speaker 6 (16:21):
For?
Speaker 2 (16:21):
That was he campaigning? For is he running? FOR i
feel LIKE i failed you as an, interviewer to you
the audience THAT i didn't Ask dick that. QUESTION i
just assumed that he didn't want any part of. That
BUT i don't. KNOW i, mean that would be kind
of a pro wrestling keel turn. Movie oh That's dick watums.
Music he's running for. Chair oh, oh that'd be, yeah
(16:44):
that'd be us spicy oh.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
COCKTAIL i don't know if we can listeners can take.
THAT i THINK i would make it more fun and.
Interesting oh my, gosh we already have enough. Drama well
There's britta And.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Darcy you got the, ihop that whole experience we talked
about that we talked about With britter earlier in the.
Show i'm going to give you that. Ihop, yeah let's.
Go it's not that far from. Here, yeah Sir, ryan
it's clear That Dick wadams is a Never. Trumper does
that mean he's a we don't really want to be
in power reach across the Isle. REPUBLICAN i don't think.
SO i wouldn't characterize him in that. Manner and what
(17:20):
gave me, hope you, know IS i think a candidate
exists in theory that could be like A Glenn, youngkin
that could even be maybe like A Ron De santis Hearing,
colorado that could. Win but LIKE i told, him AND
i mean this, sincerely you can't walk in pissing Off trump,
supporters which represents so much of The republican base That
Donald trump has helped to build and to broaden over
(17:43):
these last ten. Years you cannot just dismiss that out
of hand and, think, Oh i'm gonna win. Here joe
o' day tried. That how did that work? Out i'm not, Great.
Bob we'll take this sime. Out Alicia, garcia there's a
rally to protect The Second amendment at the State. Capitol
we'll talk to her about it next here on The
Dan Capliss. Show you're listening to The Dan Kapliss show.
(18:11):
PODCAST a lot of your texts to get to we've
been hopscotching, topics but really none more important than this next.
ONE i think for our fundamental rights here In, colorado
and there simply is no better voice to lead this
fight than the woman who goes by Boomstick babe on
all socials that INCLUDES. X she's. VERIFIED i believe verified
(18:32):
dangerous to the. Left Alicia garcia joins. Us, Now, alicia,
welcome introduce.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Me you're so.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Kind, well we always enjoy your, perspectives and you have
a good way of articulating these things in terms that you,
know average listeners and myself we can understand because you get,
wonky you get into the weeds on a lot of this.
Legislation we know it's, horrible we know it's, abysmal The
Senate bill twenty five dash zero zero, three and for
so many, reasons but a fun a mental one being
(19:01):
that it is a complete infringement on our constitutional rights
to carry, arms and they're trying to create this what
they consider to be a. COMPROMISE i Think Jared poulis
is very proud of himself with, This but it would
be mandatory training before you would be able to purchase a. Gun,
alicia can you give us more details on that part of?
Speaker 5 (19:21):
It so it's even worse than what you think it.
Is it's also taking so say you're a hunter and
you're interested in you, know The department Of wildlife and
you do hunting and, fishing so you pay these money
to protect all these lands and do all this stuff
for hunting and. Fishing now the money that you're donating
to hunting and fishing is going to be going for
them to basically infringe on your right to carry a.
(19:43):
Firearm SO, i as an, instructor would have to be
certified as basically an employee from The department Of wildlife
to teach these classes so people Can in, addition just
to conceal carry this would be a whole other process
that they would have to get permitted for and get
approved for to actually buy, firearms AND i would have
(20:06):
to do that through The department Of. WILDLIFE i would
have to be an employee of The department Of, wildlife
and the money THAT i, collect even Though i'm, working
would go straight to The department Of.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Wildlife you, Know, alisi this is just kind of a.
Happenstance BUT i happened to Watch enemy of The state last.
Night i'm going through like all the Old Gene hackman,
movies and that was one of, them Will, smith and
it really is a cautionary. Tale it predated the Movie
nine to eleven and yet forecasts what would happen in
its aftermath in so many ways because at that time
(20:34):
you were very. Young BUT i remember there were so
many of us that were so scared about what happened
on nine to eleven and who perpetrated it and how
do we stop it from, happening that we kind of
went along with The Patriot act to infringe on our
individual liberties at the expense or the promise of. Security
and you can't trade freedom for. Security Where i'm going
(20:54):
with that. Dangerous the freedom is, dangerous and that's What i'm.
Saying there are people that are going to confront you
from the, left AND i think they have good intentions With,
look we want to keep certain guns out of the
hands of criminals and the mentally, deranged so they're going
to carry out these mass. Shootings you, know how do
we go about that if not restricting access to. Guns you,
(21:15):
KNOW i.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Applaud you for assuming that they have good. Intentions for
a long, TIME i was under that guy's as. Well you,
Know i've extended kindness to these. People i've asked asked
them to have conversations with. Me i've given them my business,
Card i've told Them i'm open and discussing things with.
Them i've been very peaceful and very kind to, them
and they continue to call me a baby. Killer they
(21:38):
continue to say THAT i am a right wing, Extremist
they call me A, Nazi they harass, me they give
me the worst time When i'm really fighting for a civil.
Right we get so caught up in thinking, that you,
know this is a part of an. Issue it's not
a part of an. Issue this is a human rights.
Issue this is a civil. Issue and this applies to all,
(22:02):
people regardless of your walk of, life your political, party your,
race your, gender your sexual, orientation your economic or socio.
Class it doesn't. Matter this applies to every human right
to stay. Alive and the fact that people think that
it's okay to give away that security and that, freedom to,
me is a telltale sign of. Indoctrination and it terrifies
(22:25):
me that people actually think that when the government shows
up and, says, hey let us protect, you just sign
your rights the way over, here that it's a good.
Thing they've gotten too, comfortable the same thing that they
did with. Privacy you, know this younger, generation they don't
understand what privacy is because they were raised without. It
you ask the older, generation and they value that. Privacy
but with cell phones and social, media people will signed
(22:48):
up to give away their. Privacy AND i think that's
what they're doing to create laws like, this is that
they know at some point this is a long. Game
they're going to weed out the generations like mine and
yours and older generations that understand the value of self.
Defense but they're grooming this younger generation to be afraid
of these. Tools they're happy and willing to give them.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Up my analysis of, this AS i try to be
as left brain as logical as, Possible, alicia ALTHOUGH i
do have a fervent passion like you do about my
right to bear, arms is the following that the juice
isn't worth the. Squeeze that for every mass shooting you
think you might, limit you are draconian in enforcing laws
that prevent people from defending, themselves their, home their, property
(23:30):
their loved. Ones and for what and where is the tangible?
Benefit where is the direct case evidence that shows if
we DO x with gun, control it will limit the
number of gun. Crimes it hasn't worked In, chicago it
hasn't worked In, california it hasn't worked In New York
city And colorado is about to pass a Law alicia
that would be as, strict if not more, strict than
(23:53):
those LOCALES i just.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Mentioned and SO i brought this up in hearing the other,
day and to bring it up again that you, know
their guys for wanting to disarm the people and impose
all these infringements is you, know public, safety public. Health,
well we want public safety and we want public health.
Too my gun is my guaranteed you, know help benefit.
Plan my gun IS i guaranteed public. Safety and they
(24:18):
say they talk about mass, Shootings, well if you look
at the, statistics AND i always quote THE cdc because
THE cdc hates, guns THE cdc says about forty eight
thousand people die In america from quote unquote gun. Violence,
well THE cdc also says five hundred thousand to three
million people a year use a gun to de escalate
(24:40):
or defend themselves from. Violence but people don't want to acknowledge.
That people don't want to acknowledge the fact that there's
three million people out there every year that aren't even pressing,
triggers they're not even firing that. Firearm because the presence
and presentation of a firearm is enough to stop violence
and crime from, happening AND i love a powerful.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
TOOL i want to follow up on that analysis to
a la see because nobody's more well versed than. You
but it's my thesis and you can test it or
perhaps you have evidence to support it that where you
see areas of the country where there is concealed carry
or even open, carry that gun crime is actually lower
in those locations than those that have very strict gun.
Laws yes or.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
No, absolutely take a look At, Canasau. Georgia for the
longest time In american, History, Cannaesaud, georgia you couldn't even
buy a home in that county unless you owned a.
Firearm it was one of the most peaceful and quiet

know that you have a gun and so and so
else can have a. Gun now you have to use your.

yourself being more, steady being more you, know sit situationally,
aware and it makes you a more discipline and a

more patient. Person we're actually a very very kind and understanding.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Michigan Was Alyssa. Slatkin, yep thank, you thanks for staying
on theme with The michigan, thing but go. Ahead, well the.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
THING i, noticed AND i didn't listen too much of
what she was, saying is that there was a lot
of woke theme in what she had to. Say going
to the next, Night newsmax had a presentation of a
book that is the beginnings of storytelling to younger, kids
(31:00):
AND i believe it is Called I'm. Jazz there were
and it's the same theme as okay some, parents some
kids only have one, parent some kids have two, mothers
some kids have two. Fathers but it was in the
same theme as. That but there were probably six seven
(31:21):
readers that they kept that they showed as they progressed
through this. Story the last person where it was, Reading
i'm almost positive was the lady you just. Mentioned, Yes
i'm positive it was, her and it was just coincident
(31:44):
THAT i saw spend enough time watching her after the,
speech and, coincidentally WHICH i don't think it, Was newsmacks
brought out this book and showed how they present this
to kids on the.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Internet, Well, bill it's a great point because what all
his list Of slochean is doing is exactly What John
hickenlooper is. Doing they're back to square two on the
four step, board which is it's not that big a.

women you need to settle. Down you need to calm.
Down these men invading your sports and. Spaces it's only a.
Handful it's not that big a. Deal i'm Sure jennifer

he has his, critics many of whom are your, listeners

would not Have senate majority Leader John. Thune Dick wadhams.
Speaker 5 (32:41):
Spearheaded that campaign.
Speaker 8 (32:42):
That Tom dashel at the, time and we've got an
Awesome senate majority, leader so he knows how to win elections.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Well And John thune is a market upgrade from the Cocaine,
mitch the Turtle mitch. McConnell there's no doubt about.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
That, yes that's, right all, right under two. Minutes how's?
Speaker 2 (33:01):
That that was, Phenomenal. Jennifer BUT i got to tell
you were one of the few voices to come out
and support Of Dick. Wadams Because i'm being, hammered, peppered
paraded with texts that are Anti Dick wattums and threatening
to not listen to the show happens all the. TIME i,
KNOW i know. That but WHERE i struggle with that
IS i don't want to shut out a voice Like
(33:22):
Dick watams because of the historical perspective that he. Provides,
no of, COURSE i, UNDERSTAND i understand why people would
have misgivings or problems With Dick. Watums but my whole,
thing if you listen to my, program AND i invite
you to do, so please, subscribe download and. Listen, oh
were on your favorite podcast, Platform Ryan Shooling live or
listen live six point thirty k how here In denver
(33:42):
or on The iHeart. App we got to build a big,
tent a broad. Coalition we got to win like they
did In virginia With Glenn. Younkin that's why it brought
him up To Dick. Watums we Need Dick. Watums, yes
