I'm a heart attack survivor what I'vealways wanted to be. Hey,

(00:22):
I'm John Caldera in for Dan.Yeah, two weeks ago yesterday I had
a heart attack. So listening tothat little PSA about I'm having a stroke,
and now I'm listening to that alittle bit more intently. So quick

(00:45):
story, because you might find ituseful, you might find it boring.
I don't know. I woke upto that Tuesday and I didn't feel right.
But I don't feel right a lot. Oddly, my teeth were kind
of sore. You know when youwere a kid and you had braces and

(01:06):
they tightened the braces and I,ah kind of had that feeling. Now
I was having a funny feeling inmy chest. I figured I needed to
eat something, because good God,if anything's wrong, just eat something.
I'm Italian, that's just basic.So I decide I'm going to work,

(01:30):
and I have a little little proteinbar or something with me, and I'm
going down and I'm on US thirtysix heading into Denver. I work at
the Independence Institute close to the Capitol, and I'm driving down and my chest
feels weirder and weirder and weirder. It feels like there's this pressure on the
inside. No, I didn't havea pain in my arm. No,

(01:56):
my cholesterol when I've had it checkedin years past, and I do it
about once a year, wasn't great. But it wasn't bad at all.
And it gets worse. I callmy brother and I say, I think
I'm having a panic attack. Isthis what a panic attack feels like?
Because I don't like it, said, it's probably not a heart attack,

(02:20):
that's and I said, just stayin the line with me. And he
stayed on the line with me,and it was getting worse, and he
kept talking to me, making sureI wasn't dead yet. And I had
to get to the office because Iwas giving a zoom presentation to a group,
so I needed to be on thecomputer and need to be on camera

(02:44):
because I'm presenting something to people thatI said I would present something to and
I was like, I think,I'm just going to go to work.
I mean, I feel weird andI probably should get it checked. But
if it still hurts, I'll geta checked later. My brother came up
with a brilliant thought. He said, why don't you go to the hospital

(03:07):
and just sit in the waiting room. You don't have to admit yourself to
the hospital in order to do anything. You can just sit there. You
can do your zoom call from there, and you look badass. I'm in
pain. I'm doing this from theemergency waiting room. I thought that was
brilliant. So I drive to DenverHealth. Why Denver Health, I don't
know. You know, maybe Ishould have gone to Saint Joseph, which

(03:31):
is close to work. But basicallybecause I turned right to go to Denver
Health instead of left to get tomy office when I'm downtown, close to
the capitol, I'm still alive fromthat one little decision. So I go

(03:53):
in, sit down, and thenI thought, screw it, I'm just
going to go into the emergency room. Have to go through security to get
into the emergency room. Why,Because it's Denver General. It's where all
the meth heads and homeless hang out, so I go in. I have

(04:14):
to wait and wait and give thegirl my driver's license and insurance card.
They said, an insurance card.We don't see many of those around here.
No, I made that up.And I check in. I say,
I'm having chest pain. A womantaps a bunch of stuff on a
computer screen says, go over there, sit down, we'll test your vitals.

(04:36):
I go over. I sit down. She walks over, takes my
blood pressure and says, and Iquote, oh, I don't like that.
They then rush me into a roominside the er where some big tattooed
guy emt slaps a bunch of wireson me to do an e KG electro

(05:00):
cardiogram. I think that's what itis. And he looks at the piece
of paper and goes, I don'tlike that. He said, no,
it looks good. But this littlething here, I've been doing this for
decades and that just that just makesme think something is going on. These
are the kind of things you justwant to hear in an emergency room.
By the way, they bring meto yet another room. Then they bring

(05:25):
the X ray machine in, takea picture of my heart, suck out
a whole bunch of blood. Apoor guy who took out the blood he
and put an ivy line in andhe was filling blood from one vial to
another, and something happened and hespilled it, and blood just went all
over the wall and all over itselfand looks like a murder scene. Anyway.

(05:50):
They show it to a doctor andthen they say, oh, we
want to bring up to the cathlab, but there's the patient there now,
so I'll have to wait a littlebit. Like, Okay, I
don't know what a cath lab is, but at this point I'm just letting
you at it. Well, itstands for cather lab. So they wheel

(06:11):
me upstairs and then into this roomthat looked very much like sick Bay from
Star Trek. There's a table inthe middle and there's like fifteen people running
around doing lots of stuff. Ifortunately the great people pushed me up there
said now you're gonna see people runningaround doing a lot of stuff. It's
what they do. Thanks. I'mlaying there. They lift me onto the

(06:34):
table and then a guy starts shavingmy crotch, to which I said,
I didn't order a Brazilian and theyall laugh and I say, you know,
but if if what's left over lookslike a Hitler mustache, I'm gonna
find you. And then, andonly then did I think, wait a

(06:58):
second, I should ask this question. Excuse me, guy shaving my crotch?
Why are you shaving my crotch? My heart is up here. It's
that what it feels like to bea woman. My eyes are up here,
so my heart is up here.My brains are down there. My
heart is up here. And hesaid, well, we're gonna have to
put a catheter in you. Andif we can't get it through your arm,

(07:23):
we've got to go through the blanketyblank vein in your crotch. Great,
great, just just what, justwhat I wanted. He let's just
say a little freaked out. Itell the doctor you know, I'm am
I gonna die? He said,I doubt it. And then I said,

(07:44):
am I gonna die? He said, no, You're not gonna die,
but they gotta be careful. Ofcourse, if I die, it's
not like I'll be able to testifyagainst him. He said I wouldn't die.
And he said, well, youknow, I think I'm gonna freak
out pretty soon. He said,oh, who can take care of that?
And then he said, yeah, let's get the freak out drugs in
them. And and I woke upapparently a couple hours later and in the

(08:11):
ICU, and I find out afterthey finally come in and talked to me,
I felt great, it's amazing.After I woke up and it's like,
oh, yeah, all better,Oh chess doesn't hurt. Thanks guys.
All right, I gotta go.I gotta get things done at work.
They tell me, well, youhad a heart attack, and we

(08:31):
put a stint in, like, well, those are interesting things that I
really don't know much about, andthey explained it to me. And basically,
if I had gone to work,I we either would have had a
lot of heart damage or I justdropped dead. So very rarely do I

(08:54):
make the right call, very rarely, but in this instance, I made
the right call, and you haveto put up with me. Now.
I had a ninety percent blockage inwhat's known as the widow maker artery,
which goes around your heart and itbrings blood to the muscles in your heart.
They said, I didn't have muchdamage, but ye, nevertheless,

(09:16):
you're gonna stay in the ICU fortwo days. But I don't want to
stay. I don't care if youwant to stay. So it's odd I'm
now on you know, five hundreddifferent rugs, But I feel so much
better, isn't it crazy? Whenyour heart gets the blood it needs,
you feel a little better. Allof which to say, dudes, don't

(09:43):
be like a usual guy and youknow, just walk it off, because
that's what I was gonna do.It's like, I'll just walk it off
because it's better than going to thedoctor. Anything is better than going to
the doctor. God, I hategoing to the doctor. You know that
every man hates going to the doctor. It's innate. It's the waiting.

(10:05):
It's the waiting. It's the waiting. It's the waiting, and then it's
the word more. Basically, it'swell, we did this, but we're
gonna have you come back for afollow up, and we're gonna have to
go over there for a biopsy, and we're gonna bring you over there for
a specialist. And each time yougo you have to wait more, and
it just cascades into well, aheart attack. So, as a reasonable

(10:28):
guy, I thought I'd just waittill I had a heart attack to now
go to those doctor's appointments. Threeh three seven to one three, eight,
two five five in for Dan KaplisJohn keldera six thirty K how and
now back to the Dan Kapliss Showpodcast. So we don't have to go
down the heart attack route. Otherthan I am remarkably grateful, remarkably lucky,

(10:54):
and remarkably lucky to live in acountry where you go to an emergency
room and they save your life.Oh my god. By the way,
when you say I'm having chest pain, they they bump you to the front
of the line because time is ofthe essence. So I've been saying I

(11:18):
have chest pain every time I goto a restaurant. Hasn't worked quite as
well, but I I'm gonna keeptrying. Three h three seven one three
eight two five five. Let mejump into this. Will he drop out
of the race? Yeah? Ithink you will. I think you will.

(11:43):
I'm not certain. I'd say it'sa little better than fifty percent.
Understand He Biden, and he alonehas to make that decision, which is
a very pleasant way of saying,Jill Biden will make this decision. Will
Jill Biden agreed for a hobby toleave well only when the pressure gets so

(12:09):
bad that he has to so Ithink, I don't know, I speculate
on this. I think we're gonnasee in the coming in the coming week
or so, maybe two more andmore people coming up with look what he
did today, Look what he saidtoday. Look, look look what it's

(12:37):
gonna be. Oh, look whathe stumbled on. And with everyone,
he's going to get more pressure. So right now you have the first congressman
and his party to say he needsto drop out. Uh fresh who is
the candidate on the third congressional saidhe needs to get out. So you're

(13:00):
hearing more and more people from theDemocratic side, and when that becomes a
chorus, he'll get out, butnot until then. It's kind of like
when a football coach gets canned. The owner always gives him that vote of
confidence before he gets canned. Well, we believe that Jimbo there is going

(13:24):
to turn things around. We've gotall faith and confidence that he's going to
be able to do that. Thankyou, no more questions, And then
a couple of games later when hedoesn't, he gets canned. So the
party binds supporters are all doing thatthe vote of confidence. So Willie,

(13:48):
I think, yes, here's oneof the things that operatives do to keep
the pressure building. When when there'sa a leak, a press leak,
some little outlet gets a story theyshouldn't have gotten. It's not an accident.

(14:11):
It's not an accident. It's somebodytrying to get a story out.
Well, a little tiny news sitecalled Puck News. Yes, I said,
puck with a p got a tipoff and got a got a post
debate. Polling from a group calledopen Labs. Open Labs is a democratic

(14:35):
messaging and polling firm that works withI believe one of the Biden packs,
if not directly with the election. So, oh my goodness. Look they
put out they put out a poll. What does it say. It says
very clearly, after this, afterthis performance, his his popularity is dropping

(15:03):
like a stone. In fact,in the swing states, it looks like
he's going to lose those swing statesand therefore Trump is going to win.
It even has and listen to thisone, it even has Colorado still for
Biden. Colorado is still for Biden. We're a very very very blue state.

(15:28):
But the margin between Biden and Trumphas narrowed to one point nine percent.
That is within the margin of errorof the of the poll. So
by the way. I don't buythat. I don't buy it at all.

(15:50):
I think in a head to headBiden still wins by eight to twelve
points here in Colorado, just justby the registration, just by the hatred
of Trump. But by putting outthis pole, it technically, and this
is just one of a gazillion poles, puts Colorado squarely in a swing state.

(16:17):
The same pole had before the debate, Colorado going for Biden by three
point seven percent. Interesting, sothat all that got cut in half,
his lead got cut in half inColorado. Whatever the lead was, imagine
it getting cut in half in Colorado. Now play with this for a second.

(16:41):
What if Spock, what if thispoll is accurate and Colorado is a
swing state? Well, who's gonnawin in Colorado? They asked these questions.
Here's the answer, not just inColorado, but nationally. The favorable

(17:03):
unfavorables of the top Democrats that couldreplace him coming in number one is Pete
Buddhajeedge, then Gretchen Whittemore Whittner, then Governor Newsom, then Kamala Harris,

(17:25):
then Biden. So there are fourpeople above Biden who could be could be
presidential contenders that could that could dobetter than Biden. One of the names
they did in poll was Polis.I want to ask you about that?

(17:52):
Three or three seven one three eighttwo five five. I'm John Caldera.
Should pol Us run for president?Keep it here? Say thirty K.
You're listening to the Dan Kaplis Showpodcast. When I first heard the song,
I thought it was the heart ofrock and roll is in Topeka,

(18:19):
isn't it? Though? No itis not. It's in Detroit. It's
in Detroit, I agree. Ormaybe London? Yeah, London calling?
Sure, Yeah, I'm John Caldarianfor Dan. Give me a call.
Three your three seven one three eighttwo five five. Got a few things

(18:40):
on the text line. Not myheart attack. As you know, I
called my brother. I was havingmy heart attack. He's curious. Did
your brother ask where you kept yourwill? Now? John? When I
was getting my skin checked, thedoctor was looking at his spot and said,
oh, that's interesting. Not good. Yeah. Yeah. They took

(19:07):
whit blood pressure and the word wasI don't like that. All right.
Let me get back to topic. The pressure is building for Biden to step
aside. If he wants it tohold on, he can, but as
the pressure mounts and mounts and mounts. It's gonna be tougher. A pole

(19:32):
that was leaked shows that Colorado withBiden on the ticket is within two points
of voting for Trump. Now,personally, I don't really think that's right,
but let's keep with it. Let'skeep with it. Well, if
Colorado were a swing state, Jaredpol Is running for president would win Colorado.

(20:02):
That is, Polis is a remarkablypopular governor. He has twice purchased
the governorship, last time with twentypercentage points over his arrival. Why is
it we're not hearing his name?A year ago his name was everywhere as

(20:22):
a potential presidential candidate. I askedhim personally, so thinking about running?
And he said, nope, nope, nope, gonna be keeping this job,
which is exactly what what a wiseguy would say. And he's very
smart. If he ran, hewouldn't have much time to do something.

(20:49):
My strong suspicion is that if andmaybe win, Biden drops out, Polis
will not try to get those delegates. Polish will not run for president.

(21:10):
Here's the thinking. He knows it'san uphill battle, even though he does
have a lot of money. Itmight take more than that, So should
Biden drop out, he has somethinglike two one hundred and sixty five million
dollars in his war chest. Fromwhat I know, he cannot give that

(21:36):
to another candidate. That money wasraised for the Biden Harris ticket. If
Harris becomes the the nominee will loand behold, she gets to use that
money, if not any of theother folks. They have to raise it.

(22:02):
Gavin Newsom is very good at raisingmoney. He could raise money quickly,
was it? JB. Pritzker,Governor of New Jersey is worth something
like three point six billion dollars. He could finance it himself. What's a
quarter of a million dollars to thisguy? Here's what I think could happen.

(22:30):
I really want you to weigh inon this. One three h three
seven one three eight two five fiveseven to one three talk. I could
see Jared Poulis as a VP candidate, perhaps under Kamala Harris, particularly if

(22:52):
Colorado becomes a swing state. Nowit could be mutually beneficial if they need
Colorado, and that would certainly deliverit, But it would be more beneficial
for Jared should a Harris Polus ticketwin. He's a heartbeat away, and

(23:14):
as I've come to realize after myheart attack, heartbeat away is pretty darn
close. But win. And ifhe loses and the ticket loses, well,
that means Kamala lost, not theVP candidate. The VP candidate gets
to live to fight another day.And he I'm certain our governor is thinking

(23:42):
very strongly about a presidential run infour years. That gives him plenty of
time to work on it. Whatdo you think three o three seven to
one, three eight two five fiveseven to one three talk And why in
the world isn't there any consideration ofour governor as a possible replacement When a

(24:06):
year ago he was all over thenews, He was in Fox News and
a Wall Street Journal and Reason magazine. Oh good god. Even George Will
wrote a puff piece about, oh, this is a different type of Democrat.
Why is his name not being mentionednow just a year later. Here's

(24:30):
my suspicion, because his name isnot being mentioned because secrets are hard to
keep. And up until recently, national press was buying the bogus story that
our governor is some kind of libertarianish democrat, pro business ish democrat.

(24:56):
And all the people who are sayingso had won one thing in common.
They were not from Colorado. Theywere from California or New York or other
places where the spin is not easilychecked. But what happens is actions speak

(25:17):
louder than words. And the factthat no libertarian ish, business friendly ish
people in coloradogo, Oh yeah,he's a great governor. No, they
all go, let's see their taxincreases, fee increases, regulatory increases,
energy price increases, gun law increases, putting oil and gas out of business,

(25:44):
banning plastic straws, increasing the minimumwage, all the rest. It's
hard. It's hard to run awayfrom that record. That makes it very
difficult for jareded Polis to play that, Oh I'm a libertarian. Listen,
Liking weed and bitcoin does not makeyou a libertarian. You cannot be libertarian

(26:11):
small l or large l and lovetax increases and taking away people's right to
live their own life the way theylike. That's that's his problem. The
other part of it is his farleft doesn't like him. As crazy socialist

(26:33):
as he is, He's still notcrazy socialistic enough for the crazy wing of
his party in Colorado. The crazywing of his party took it on the
chin on primary day when folks likeTim Hernandez and representative EPs lost their primaries.

(26:56):
These were people who were so farout of the norm even the left
didn't like it. All right,So help me out about this. Could
you see Jared Polis running this year? We're working on the assumption that Biden
in the next week or so dropsout. If so, if so,

(27:22):
could he win? Or do yousee him looking for a VP slot?
Would it be wise if he did? I think it would be very wise
for him to take the VP slot. It would make him a nationally known
commodity, allowing him to run infour years three or three seven, one,

(27:42):
three, eight, two, fivefive. I want to hear from
you. Let me know. I'mJohn Caldera and for mister Caplis, keep
it right here. Six point thirtyk how and now back to the Dan
Kaplis Show podcast. Why isn't JaredPolis being mentioned as a possible Biden replacement?
A year ago he was all overthe news and the talk shows as

(28:06):
people were saying, Oh, thatcal that that Colorado guy, Oh he
could be president. Let's go tothe phones, Let's go to monument and
talk to Joe. Joe. Goodafternoon, you're with Caldera. Hey John,
how you doing, brother Glad? It's your heart attack man? Me
too, Me too. Yeah,i'd be talking to similar other schmuk insteady.

(28:30):
I'm a Jersey boy, Come on, I love it anyway. Anyway,
I don't think Jared's gonna run oreven take a seat assignment simply because
he doesn't want to be associated witha loser. He has won everything he's
ever done. I mean, likeyou said, he's purchased every job he's
ever ahead. I don't think hewants to be associated if Kamala takes the

(28:53):
money. I don't think he wantsto be part of that, because she's
still going to lose to Trump, and that's gonna be We don't know that.
We don't know that, all right, but that is not well liked
reading the tea leagues. I'll gothat, Rod. I still don't think

(29:14):
he would want to be associated withthat. I think he would love to
speak at the convention and do whatBaroccio and jump out that way into the
national spotlight as the plan articulate whiteguy from Colorado who everybody loves but not
really wow. So I just Idon't think he wants it I don't think

(29:37):
he wants to be up against Trumpto be known as somebody that could have
lost to Trump in any way, shape or form. It's just not his
pattern. Maybe, But think ofthis, Okay, if he if he
runs as a VP candidate, Yeah, he gets he gets to be nationally

(30:00):
when she loses, that's when sheloses. He by default becomes one of
the standard bearers for the Democratic Partynationwide. His name is there, he
was, he was part of it. And it's not like he lost.

(30:22):
She loses. Let's remember Carter Mondalelost in nineteen eighty and lo and behold.
Mondale easily won the nomination next timearound. It's not it's not that
losing that spot makes it impossible toget it. Yeah, if I were,

(30:47):
if I were Hollis's advisor and Kamalacalls and says, the President's going
to drop out, I'll be runningfor president. I'd like you to be
the VP candidate, I would beon it like a mini skirt. It
would It would give a damnse achance to now say that Trump is anti

(31:11):
gay, anti woman, anti black. I mean, it's just one more
thing they could complain him with.Well, and also think of think of
the identity politics checklist which must betaken in order to appease the left.
You have a black woman of color, a woman of color, and a

(31:32):
Jewish gay man. That would bean identity politics jubilee of a ticket.
Yeah, and that's why they're worriedabout going with somebody else other than Kamala,
because if they did, it wouldbe seen as a as an insult

(31:53):
to women and to people of color. Yeah. Well, I appreciate your
point of view. Glad you're doingwell and can't wait to hear more from
your play. Thank you so much, appreciate it. Three all three seven,
one three eight two five five sevento one three talk? Is that?

(32:14):
Is that? Oh? The rightanalysis? I think it is.
I think it is. But here'sthe point. Polus only makes sense if
Colorado is in play and they needthese nine votes. My suspicion is they

(32:38):
would go someplace else. Gretchen Whitmore, a woman well that that would check
a box, and a swing statePritzler, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. They
need that more than they need Colorado. That's what I think. Wow,

(33:07):
So what is Polis? Why isn'this name out there? Every article lists
the same you know, six people, but not polis A year ago,
the Washington Post did an analysis andPolus was number three in that top ten

(33:29):
likely to run for president, rightafter Pete Bodhaje Edge and Kamala Harris.
Then it was polis So. Ayear ago he was third in line of
the most likely to run for president. Now he's not mentioned. Why do

(33:49):
you think that is? Is itbecause he's hacked off his left and he's
hacked off normal people? Do youthink it's because people understand his record now
and they can't hide the fact thathe's he's a socialist, that he's no

(34:12):
libertarian. Let me tell you beingprowed and pro cryptocurrency does not make one
a libertarian. And do you believethat after this debate Biden is only two
points ahead of Trump in Colorado?Let me call three oh three seven one
three eight two five five seven toone three talk in for Dan Caplis,

(34:36):
John Calderrek, keep it right here, six thirty k
