This is Dan Kaples and welcome totoday's online podcast edition of The Dan Caplis
Show. Please be sure to giveus a five star rating if you'd be
so kind, and to subscribe, download, and listen to the show every
single day on your favorite podcast platform. So what happened? What happened to
Jared Polis and the presidency? Remembera year ago he was talked about all

(00:25):
the time, like, oh,ye know, your guy could be president,
your guy could be president. I'dgo on business trips and people would
say, oh, I hear you'reyour governor's really good. You hear wrong.
A recent poll shows that Colorado, after the debate debacle, is only

(00:47):
two points one point nine percent leaningtowards Joe Biden. Do you believe that?
Does that sound right to you?Go to the phones and talk to
Tom out in Mead. Hey,Tom, you're with John Caldera. Thanks
for calling. Hi, Gott, how are you? And I'm glad you're

(01:10):
well. I'm glad you recovered. Please take it easy, we need you
around. Thank you. I greatlyappreciate that. Well, your previous caller
just nailed it. I think,I mean just he said that Paulus is
just too smart. To, youknow, tie on to that loser,
tam La Harris. I mean,come on, I mean he's he's young,

(01:33):
and he I'm gonna tell you something. You know, I'm a very
Republican conservative person, but I see, I know, tell it when I
see it. And this guy isone of the most astute politicians I have
ever seen in my life. Yes, he's pretty smart. And it's not
just smart. He is lightning fast, and that he can rope a dope,

(01:53):
particularly reporters, very easy and justand now in double to them and
have their wires so crossed. Well, he can do that. But I
mean so he was one of thefirst Democrat governors to recognize that this COVID
lockdown thing is a losing issue, and you know, he ran away from

(02:15):
him and started opening up the state. And I watched him do it,
and I thought that was very astuteof him and was smart. It was
the right thing to do. Therest of them didn't do it, but
he did, and he had theballs to do it. And you know,
I just I'm gone, I'm lookingat this guy. I'm going,
you know, this guy's gonna goplaces. But I think your previous caller
just nailed it. You know,he's too smart to hitch his wager,

(02:38):
that stupid mule back in Washington. No way. I see it as a
no lose thing that if he runs, he gets to burnish his credentials with
the Left, which he'll need inorder to win an nomination later. He

(03:01):
gets name recognition everywhere. He getsto find a way to travel and talk
to people and do it pretty quickly. And he he win, lose,
win or lose. He wins, well, let's let's say Kamala wins.
Let's say Kamala wins, hang on, play with me. If Kamala wins,

(03:25):
he's a heartbeat away. That's agood thing. If she loses,
she loses. He doesn't. Youknow. If if that were the case,
Mondale never would have been able toto win the nomination. That's why

(03:46):
I'll become president. Now. Youdon't become president for that. Yeah,
but he followed, but he wasattached to a presidency, so yeah,
I don't know. He might be. My suspec is Kamala won't choose him
because she needs a RUSS got abelt swing state. I gotta keep Biden

(04:12):
in there, gotta keep that anduh, but I just think that Paul
is too smart to uh maybe Ilove I love your your thoughts. We
got to keep Biden in there, like you and I have anything to say
about it. Part of me onethis question, John, let me ask

(04:33):
you this question. They'll pick alot of topic. I can't, he
can't. Jill the first lady wegot to call her. First lady said
a jail because we get him confused. But I think she got to be
She had to be arrested for elderYou don't you think this is gross?
I mean, really, you gottabe kidding me, dude, what I

(04:54):
mean? What do you think aboutthat? I think she loves her man
and want wants him to be president. There are many hang on, hang
on, hang on, hang on. You asked me my thoughts and then
you spoke over me. So let'stry this. I think she is like
many politician wives who live vicariously throughtheir husband. I've known many wives who

(05:24):
want who want the spouse to bein office more than the spouse does.
I have heard the same thing mightbe true for Senator Hickenlooper. It was
the same thing was true for uhGary Hart that there were people, there
were wives who who were really intoit. You know, I think if

(05:46):
it was somebody like Nancy Reagan, she only wants to protect her man,
and Jill, Jill thinks this isthis is what he deserves. So how
about this for a thought? Okay, I wonder if Team Biden, knowing
how feeble he is, agreed toan early debate to force this issue.

(06:11):
I'm going to try that again. Is it possible that this early debate between
two guys neither one have been nominatedyet so early on in the in the
race, was just to get peopleto look at Biden without a teleprompter.
Knowing that this would happen, Iwouldn't be surprised. I agree with you.

(06:34):
I totally agree with that. There'smore operatives than not, more people
in the Democratic Party than not thatwanted to drop out, and the only
thing that it's standing between Biden andthat decision as his wife. Yep,
that I agree. Thanks for thecall. Let me grab another one.

(06:54):
Thank you so much. Three orthree seven, one, three eight two
five five. Let's go out toKenyon City. Talk to Eugene. Hey,
Eugene, you're with John KELDERA Hey, John, nice to talk to
you. I love when you felllearn and you and Ryan do a great
job. Which one does a betterjob, Which one does a better job?
Which one does a better job withme? Is it mean? Probably

(07:15):
me? Isn't it? I'm likeputting me on the spot there I was
supposed to do. I love youboth the same. I'm listening, right,
I can be the tiebreaker here.Oh, yes, Reilly, Hi,

(07:35):
how are you. I'm so gladyou're feeling better. Yeah, Eugene
likes Ryan. Hugene, you cheating. I mean I think he's putting words
in my mouth. Hey, I'mlistening both times, right, So oh,
don't try, don't try to makeup to me. It is over,
Eugene, it is over. Ican do better than you anyway.

(08:00):
What do you got for paconomically?Okay, So, regarding a Polish running
for presidents, I think he's obviouslycunning and capable and a good politician.
I don't agree with his policies, did not vote for him. But he's
not an attractive person. I knowthat sounds kind of messed up being a
getting a vice president ticket might bethe best thing for him. Because we

(08:24):
look at presidents and with the exceptionalpast and lb J in the twentieth century,
we tend to elect in a mediaenvironment, attractive people to be president,
and I don't think polists could evenif he ran on his own and
got the nomination and not twenty thirtytwo. Or are you saying he is
not physically attractive enough? I don'tthink he's Yeah, I think he's too

(08:48):
ugly. Yeah, you look atyou look at somebody like Gavin Newsom and
you just go really, really, you look like a televangelist. Are you
kidding me? Tall, tall, thin, big hair. That's that's what
politicians need to be, tall thanbig hair. I don't know. I
think I think of you know,Pritzker is not a good looking man.

(09:11):
Who am I thinking of? Theformer governor of New Jersey? I can
see his face and Alzheimer's says, kicking in. I wonder iful. We'll
rename Alzheimer's Bidenism something something like that. Anyway, I want to bring back
ugly politicians. You know what Iwant? I want a bald president.
We haven't had a bald president sinceIke. You could argue for it,

(09:33):
but he didn't win. So no, we haven't had a bald president since
Ike. And as a bald man, I I'm now into the identity politics,
and I will not vote for anyonewho isn't bald, and Jared's balding,
So yeah, you know, Ithink if Trump went bald or like
dicked his head and then put onthe four nice heard, I think he

(09:54):
looked pretty boss, and I thinkshould do that. But I'm all right,
we'll think about it. I gottarun you a break. Thank you
so much for the coke phone callthree three seven to one, three eight
two five five seven to one threetalk. Why aren't people talking about Polus
for president when a year ago theyall seem to be doing so. I'm
John Calderic. Keep it right here, six thirty k how and now back

(10:18):
to the Dan Kaplas Show podcast.I don't know if I can get into
that song. That's just a littletoo a little too cheery for me.
Sounds like a Christmas song almost.Hey, I'm John Caldera, give me
a call three h three seven onethree eight two five five talking about who
should replace Biden. Of course,I don't want anyone to replace Biden,

(10:43):
but if someone does, should itbe our own governor Polis. I don't
think that's likely, but I thinkthere's a possibility he could become a vice
presidential running mate. Three O threeseven one three eight two five five Sonny
in the bathroom, best name everyou're with John KELDERA, yeah, John.

(11:07):
If you don't know where that comesfrom, you'll have to ask.
I think I just did, andI loved it. For those who don't
know, apparently you called in andbecause of a typo, Dan called you
Sonny in the bathroom instead of sorry, I'm in the bathroom. Even it's
something completely different, but you'll haveto ask the talent from the program what

(11:28):
that all is about. Well, just to see that you're you're still dodging
the afterlife. So congratulations on that. And I'm sure your son is enjoying
packing up your stuff for the airporttrip. It's funny, quick, quick
quick thing on that. So mywith a heart attack. My my daughter

(11:48):
really flipped out. She flew infrom college to lord all over me and
her fascist manner. I opened upmy refrigerator and all the good food is
labeled with a big no exclamation point. And my my son, who has
down syndrome, he could tell somethingwas wrong, but he was he was

(12:09):
just tied in and giving me allthis all the right love and but very
gentle because he knew I was Iwas hurt. Yeah, it's good to
have family. Yeah. So justwanted to say on that that as far
as Polus, I saw a videofrom seeing in broadcast right after the debate
that listed Polus as a possible. So what I'm really wondering what happened after

(12:33):
the night of the debate where hewas viewed as a possible then but not
now. I mean, did hejust shut them down or there had to
been something there? And I,you know, I've been asking the very
same question because you and I understandthat a year ago he was, you

(12:54):
know, in the top well hewas, he was in the top three
of Yeah, right after the debate, he was listed on CNN of the
broadcast as a top three contender. But now it's completely shifted. So I'm
wondering if he told them no,that he saw the debacle coming and maybe
he said like, hey, I'mout, like I'm not in this at

(13:16):
all, or what I mean,you know, don't I don't care enough
to think about it too much, but it is interesting, Yeah, it
is. He is so very verysmart. He knows how to take advantage

(13:37):
of this. But he's got aposition himself for twenty twenty eight. That's
what he's thinking about. There's nodoubt about it. And being a running
mate would I think only help.I don't think it would hurt him,
and it would only take him away. It would only take him away from
his duties for a few months. So he does, he has a and

(14:00):
then everyone knows who he is.I'm sorry, what duties are those?
Like dancing around on TikTok or somethinglike that. The duties of raising our
taxes by calling them fees and banningplastic and taking away our gun rights.
Those duties, well, yeah, that'd be a great thing to take them
away for a while. So maybewe should all encourage start to go fund

(14:22):
me or something like the fund hiscampaign. Yeah, run, Jared Run,
Although would you really want to inflictJared on the nation, not on
anybody? YEA. Let me saythis at least Kamala and I might have
this wrong if I do. Letme know, Kamala seems to be the

(14:46):
raging socialist that she presents as thatyou get what you get what is advertised.
It's one of the reasons I lovedPat Schroeder, the long time congress
Will from Denver. She was araging progressive, but when she came home,
she didn't do what so many otherDemocrats did, which was talk like

(15:09):
a moderate. Now she was thesame person. What you see is what
you get. Polis is the opposite. What you see is not what you
get. He is better than Clintonwhen it comes to changing his colors,
changing his tone, changing his wordsto meet the people he's with, but

(15:31):
then when he's in office, hedestroys businesses, destroys civil liberties. As
far as Kamala goes, you know, I think at the beginning of her
career she's a little bit of asleeper candidate. But I think things have
probably changed since then. Yeah, could be, could be. So I'll

(15:54):
ask you to say, I'll askyou the same question real fast. Do
you think this early debate that theBiden team agreeing to it was was done
on purpose, that this is whatthey wanted the world to see. It's

(16:14):
so hard to tell. I mean, I think not that they wanted to
see that, but what they wantedto see is if he could perform and
see if they could pull it off. And it's better to figure out can
we pull this off earlier than itwould be later. So now they've got
some time before this whole Ohio thinghappens in what like thirty days or something
like that, that they've got tohave somebody figured out by then. So

(16:37):
I think it was they wanted tofigure out can he perform enough early on.
I suspect I have no proof thatthose people inside his inner circle agreed
to this so that the world couldsee what they saw and and this move

(16:59):
this issue altot. I The moreI think about it, the more likely
I believe that Biden will will decidenot to run. Yeah, but I
guess who do you think are thepeople that would actually agree to Biden doing
the debate? That's what I don'tknow is who would actually say, hey,
we agree to that. I mean, we know Biden's not running anything

(17:22):
so right, so it has tobe his people, and I think a
lot of his people, including maybesome of the Obama folks, still still
have sway there. That'd be myguess. Anyway, thanks for the call.
We'll play with this after after aquick break three h three seven one
three eight two five five seven toone three talk. I'm John Caldera.

(17:47):
Is Polish ready for the big league? Should he go? Would he go
keep it here here on six thirtyk happ you're listening to the Dan Kaplis
Show Pop. I know, Iknow you're gonna hate this. I can't
stand that. I knew you weregonna say that. I knew you were
gonna say that. I cannot standthat. And I know it's a it's

(18:11):
a beautiful song, and people getteary and they wave the flag, and
but good god, it is sucha too dimensional, in your face kind
of song. Is that it's supposedto be? Maybe you know, it's
not like it's not like the StarSpangled banner, because are flags to wave?

(18:34):
It tells a story, this one. Yeah, And I don't feel
that free these days. I feelrather coerced and controlled. So you know,
I love America, but you knowshe's got some serious problems anyway.

(18:57):
No, there's just I'm there's notexture to that song. I'm sorry.
I know you hate me, andit means I'm a bad patriot. But
that's that wasn't my point. Iheard Kelly scream no she was sad.
Yes, because screaming I heard you, oh no else like you saw a

(19:18):
kit and get run over When Isaid that, Yeah, kind of No,
that is Ryan, you are notat all accurate. I respect your
opinion. John, continue yet bigfat loser communist? All right? Three
or thirty seven one three, eight, two five, five seven one three
talk. We're talking about a pollthat came out that says that Trump is

(19:45):
within two points of Biden in Colorado. If true, that would be remarkable.
I highly doubt it, and II know that this pole. I
don't know for fact. I speculatethis poll was leaked to someone in the

(20:07):
press for the very purpose of scaringJoe Biden and giving people ammunition to scare
Joe Biden, or should I sayJill Biden, because I think Jill Biden
is the person who makes the callon this one. It is fascinating that

(20:30):
we've got We've got people admitting Joeis thinking about it. This from New
York Times. President Joe Biden hastold key allies that he knows the coming
days are crucial and understands that hemay not be able to salvage his candidacy

(20:53):
if he cannot convince voters that he'sup to the job after a disastrous debate
performance last week. According to twoallies who have spoken with him again,
reading from the Times, Biden hasemphasized that he is still deeply committed to
the fight for reelection, but understandsthat his viability as a candidate is on

(21:17):
the line. All right, whatdoes this mean? The Times wants him
out? The Times editorial board madeit very clear they want him to drop
out. And so then to putthis story out that says, you know,
he's considering it. That's basically whathe's saying. He's considering it.

(21:45):
Holy moly. Once once you dothat, once you give people a whiff
of weakness, what you do isinvite more pressure. He is inviting more
pressure. Hmmm. Presidents ought toproject confidence Wednesday and a call with his

(22:10):
campaign staff even as White House officialswere trying to calm nerves among the ranks
inside the Biden administration. No one'spushing me out, Biden said in the
call. I'm not leaving. Wewill not back down. We'll follow our
president's lead, said Kamala Harris. We will fight and we will win.

(22:33):
Oh, she's just terrific, isn'tshe. So there is a whiff of
fear in that story. That wasthe purpose of the story. Don't think
that this was a news story. This wasn't a news story. This was
another brick to drop on Biden's headto get him to leave, to show

(22:59):
that there is growing momentum for himto drop out. And if he admits
that he's got a problem, thatmeans he's going to encourage more and more
people to call for him to comeout. So they say two allies have

(23:23):
according to two allies, they don'tsay who those two allies are. A
new poll from The New York Timesin Sennia College showed that Donald Trump now
leads Biden forty nine percent to fortythree percent among likely voters nationally, a

(23:44):
three point swing toward the Republican fromjust a week before the debate. The
six point deficit in the poll wasa blow to the campaign and could make
it harder to hang on. Althoughsome insiders had worried it could have been
worse, it could have been worse, so Jean Pierre Kareem Sean Pierre,

(24:14):
the White House Press secretary, saidthe President told her directly he has not
talked to allies about dropping out ofthe race. That is absolutely false,
she said during the briefing. Butwait a minute, the President says he's
not talked to allies about dropping out, and then one of his allies spoke
on the condition of anonymity to TheTimes, saying that the president was well

(24:40):
aware of the political challenge he faces. In other words, he talked to
him about dropping out. That personsaid, Biden was aware that the outcome
of his campaign could be different fromwhat he is fighting for. Biden,
that person said, believes he isan effective leader, who is mentally sharp
and who doesn't get how others don'taccept that. Yeah. Yeah. According

(25:12):
to the story, key party donorsprivately calling House members, senators, super
PACs, and the Biden campaign andthe White House to say they think Biden
should step down. An elected Democrat. An elected Democrat speaking on the condition
of anonym who are these wusses?Speaking on the condition of anonymity given the

(25:36):
political sensitivities, said the decision wasstill ultimately up to Biden. The only
thing that matters is his decision onwhether he is going to let it go.
That person said, all right, the purpose of this New York Times
story was to say he's thinking aboutit, he is seriously considering it,

(26:03):
he knows it's a problem. Inother words, it's there to get more
pressure on him. My suspicion isover the next couple days, the pressure
for him to drop out will growexponentially. Now should he do that?
It leaves a question not only whoreplaces him, but if he's ready to

(26:30):
not be president, would he justquit now and let Kamala be an incumbent
running for reelection. When you thinkof it, if he really cared about
the country and about the election, keeping the house, keeping the White House

(26:51):
in Democratic hands, he would notjust drop out of the race. He'd
resign. He'd resign so that Kamalacould run as president. It's a lot
easier to win as president, don'tyou think. Give me your thoughts on
this. Three h three seven one, three eight two five five seven to

(27:14):
one three talk What what does hehave to hear? What needs to happen.
It's amazing to see Democrats scramble, and I'm trying not to take Schottenfreud
in it. I'm trying to nottake pleasure and watching them scramble and finally
admit what all of us already knew, that this guy is not up to

(27:37):
the job. And one has towonder. Excuse me, friends in the
media, Excuse me, Democrats whoknow better. Where were you for the
last three years? Oh, nowyou're pressuring him to leave now that it
looks like he might lose, Butyou were happy to have the nation be

(28:02):
in the hands of a guy whocan't remember where his feet are. Is
there? You know what? Youguys deserve this Democrats, you deserve this
mess because none of you would standup and say what needed to be said.

(28:22):
Three or three seven, one, three, eight, two five five.
I'm John Calderrek. Keep it righthere six point thirty k how and
now back to the Dan Kaplas Showpodcast. Now that a song. I
was hoping you'd like that. One. Guy's got some soul going there.
We might have had to fight ifyou didn't like that one. Yeah,

(28:47):
I'm pround to me and a manicinall right, look at it. It's
it's a kiddy tune, but PurpleMountain's majesty is grace on these with the
soul of this. Now that's howyou're doing a song about patriotism. Yeah,
Ray Charles is America. John You'reright, Ray Charles. You know

(29:10):
what if if Ray Charles and JohnnyCash had a baby, it would be
America. I love it. Yes, Yeah, that's that's how you celebrate
America. That's how you celebrate America. All right, you're ready for my
best joke? Oh it did?Okay, I made this one up today,
right. It's so they asked herhow how do you keep a dog

(29:37):
from barking on July fourth? AndChristy Noman answered, you shoot him on
the third. Oh that's good thatthat that was mine, made that completely
by myself. I like it.It's dark, it's great, it's cutting,

(29:59):
and it's true. See now,if you sign onto my newsletter at
Independence Institute, that's just go tothinkfreedom dot org. You'll get a note
from me tomorrow. Should go outwith that joke in it. I put
out a little weekly note about what'sgoing on and send out our column and
what's going on on our TV show, Devil's Advocate. But but occasionally I

(30:23):
I write a good joke that sicks. Just that's from way downtown right there.
So Christopher Hitchens, the late greatChristopher Hitchens, had some great observations
about humor, more specifically about whywomen aren't funny. And he wrote this

(30:47):
piece for was It What are youwrite? Vanity Fair? And he said,
quote, women aren't funny because theydon't have have to be that that
men need to win women's attention,so they work on being funny women not

(31:10):
funny. They don't have to bea lot. Went on to say that
guy humor. Guy humor is cruel, that there is there is a competitive
meanness about guy humor. And youthink about the Three Stooges. What's funny
about some guy getting hit with atwo by four. If you're a guy

(31:32):
and it happens to somebody else, that's funny. If it happens to me,
I know, I got it.No, No, you're both full
of crap. Well that's true. What what exactly? Well, she's a
girl. So she's a girl.She's she's she's offended. She's not funny.
Stop it what, I'm very funny. All right, let's have a

(31:56):
joke right now. I can't know. I just laugh. H h that's
her humor. It'll laugh itself.Yeah. There are funny women. Don't
get me wrong. There are theLucille Balls of the world. They are
the Tina phase of the world. They're funny women. But no, no,
and guy humor is cruel. Girlhumor is not nearly as cruel.
