Banking. We're banking really feels good. News Radio six to ten WTVS.
Seven thirty six. It's box arecoming up in less than ten minutes.
Recap of the World Series. Alsothe Blue Jackets game from last night with
Matt McCoy, our sports director, and it's the first college football playoff rankings

(00:20):
happening tonight. Could we see OhioState at number one? We've been saying
for a couple of weeks now sincePenn State that they have the best body
of work so far. But isthat what the you know, what seems
to be a mystery is what thecommittee is looking for are they Are they
looking for just teams that have justsmashed and destroyed, which we really haven't

(00:41):
seen much of that this year. It's a little bit of all of it.
Box. It's a recipe if youwant to just like it. Like
Matt it said, And we've saidthis overall resume about top ten wins,
Ohio State has the best resume.Yeah, if you can feeling out Yeah,
two top ten teams, Yeah,I you know, Okay, So
we didn't blow out Notre Dame, didn't blow out Penn State. We didn't

(01:02):
really blow out the unranked Wisconsin, but we knew Wisconsin was gonna be are
there. They're usually tough for themost part. That's that's how they are.
When you play top ten teams. It very rarely is it a blowout.
It's supposed to be kind of atight game because it stands the reason
that that other team you're playing ispretty good. Yeah, I'm I'm a
college football fan. I know nothingelse, so I'm not an expert at

(01:23):
anything, but I will say this. You can't put Georgia at number one
for their schedule that they've had sofar, And you can't put Georgia at
number one just because they're Georgia. That's all I'm gonna say. I'm actually
with you on that. Thank Color. If you have the committee, tell
them you're going to be on enoughphone. Let's talk the election. You
know, we're a week away fromthe election, and we're starting to see

(01:45):
more and more races, especially moreand more talk of those that are running
for school boards. It's become evenmore important, and not that it ever
wasn't, but even more popular. We saw a lot during the pandemic.
And I want to welcome Leah Breakingwho is with us. She's a mother
of three that has thrown or hadin the ring for the Worthington School Board.

(02:06):
Leah, thanks for joining us thismorning on the Legacy Retirement Group dot
com phone line. Good morning,Boxer. Thank you for having me on
the show today. I appreciate youreaching now because these are local. You
know, while we could talk nationalpolitics all day, I feel like these
are the most important stories ones likeyours. I'm actually fascinated with it because
you're a wonderful carrie, mother ofthree, you have two that have graduated,

(02:30):
your youngest is a freshman in highschool. Suddenly you decided, you
know what, I'm not a politician, but I don't like what I'm seeing
and I want to help change somethings at the Worthington School Board. Tell
us your story. Yeah, absolutely, I do. I love Worthington.
You know, we've put down rootshere. My husband and I have invested
in the community over the last twentyyears. And when we saw things happening

(02:52):
that we didn't agree with, wehad a choice. We could leave,
you know, run out to thecountry and find somewhere to live out there,
yeah, or do what we couldto make things better. So that's
what I chose to do Leah breakis with us, who's a mother of
three, proud Worthington resident, wantsto see some changes with the worthing At
school board, wants to contribute.Leah, you mentioned you saw things you

(03:14):
didn't like. You weren't really diggingwhat were those things. So the first
thing that grabbed, really grabbed myattention was when Worthington decided to remove the
school resource officer from our high schools. The school resource officer is a police
officer that's assigned to the school specifically, so if he's there every day.

(03:34):
Back in the height of the defundthe police movement, Worthington decided that they
were just going to remove that resourceofficer without any input from the community.
They didn't give us a chance tovoice our opinion, and even against the
advice of the administration, they decidedto terminate that contract. So that leaves
Worthington and Columbus the only schools incentral Ohio that don't have resource officers,

(04:00):
which is and I feel we needthem back, which is baffling to me.
By the way, we saw alot of and some people hate this,
but we saw a lot of wokethat happened during the pandemic just and
I say woke because people that youknow, faltered to maybe pressure to hey,
you know, you better do thisor else and any ideas. Has

(04:21):
Worthington ever given an explanation the schoolboard as to why they let the resource
officers go. Yeah, they contendedin that meeting that it was racist to
have the resource officers, that theymade some students of color uncomfortable. I
can't speak to how those specific studentsfelt, sure, but one one of

(04:46):
the board members actually said, youcan't be anti racist and be in support
of resource officers. And I justdon't agree with that. Yeah. Leah
Brak is with us, who isa throwner hat in the ring for the
Worthington School Board, A mother ofthree, her youngest is a freshman in
high school. You also talked alittle bit about you. You noticed there's

(05:06):
no conservative voice on the board. And look, whether you're you're liberal,
far right or far left. Evenin Congress, in the most part,
you you have to have this goodbalance. You know, ideas come from
from everywhere, and you're just notseeing much of a conservative outlet on the
board. Is that right? Yeah? Absolutely, it definitely leans to the

(05:28):
left. Diversity is a big wordright now. We throw it around a
lot, and I would love tosee diversity on the school board. I
think it would benefit our school districttremendously. Yeah, no, I can,
I can totally see that. Whatwho encouraged you to run? What?
You know, really what you hadto have at one point gone to

(05:49):
the mirror and said to yourself, well, can I do this? Am
I up for this? Is ita passion? What was it for you?
You know, the seed was planteda while back when I started heart
hearing people, you know, likeyou on the radio saying things happened at
the school board level. So thatwas always kind of in the back of
my mind for the last three years. I would say, my husband has

(06:10):
been amazingly encouraging through this process. When I kind of threw the idea out
to him, he supported me onehundred percent, which kind of surprised me,
only because he is not into politicsat all and he doesn't like any
kind of conflict. For him tosay, I'm going to support you in
this, and he's been nothing butyou know, my biggest champion in the
whole thing. My dad really encouragedme to kind of take this leap and

(06:36):
like I said, either you know, if you're going to stay, then
try to make a difference. Andhe's really been a big supporter in that
as well, so and I justkeep I feel like every day I just
get confirmation from God that he's placedme here. I don't know if he
has it in the cards for meto win. I'm leaving that in his
hands. And I told him I'lldo what I can and if I'm supposed
to be on the board, thenthen you know, if that's his will,

(06:59):
then that's what I'll happen. ButI feel like I'm doing what I
can. I like your values.Sounds like you have a very strong family.
Leah too. You get elected tothe board the Worthing school Boards.
What's your first order of business? What are you hoping to accomplish? You
know one thing that I feel likeI can do if Eric and I are
elected. So Eric Farley is runningwith me kind of on the same same

(07:21):
conservative valage. Okay, if weboth get on the board, which is
what we need, then we canbalance the board. We'll have a very
balanced board. So if we bothget on there, we've got the votes
to make some changes right away. The first thing I'd like to do is
reinstate the public comment. You canmake public comments at the Worthington School Board
right now, but they're not partof the live stream. So when the

(07:43):
live stream happens, they just cutthe feed right there so that the community
can't hear what the other members ofthe community are saying in the meeting.
Wait, can I step you fora second. I don't understand that.
Why for people that can't show upbut they want a live stream and see
what people have to say, Whyon earth would you cut those comments off?
Yeah. I think they just didn'tlike some of the comments that were

(08:03):
coming in and they felt that.I guess, well, I don't like.
Policy wise, they don't have toshow them because it's you know,
it's not so they decided not to. But I feel like, I feel
like it's kind of censorship. Well, sure, it's a public square in
essence. Yeah, And I feellike that would really reinstate some trust.
I think there's a lack of trustwith the board right now. Yeah,

(08:26):
Like, what are you hiding?I feel like, yeah, And I
feel like that would reinstate the trustin the community that we want to listen
to you and we want the communityto be a whole and to work together,
So that would be my first business. I think that that would be
something, you know, one stepthat we could take in the positive direction
right off the bat. I likethat. Leah, is there a place
we could go for those that arein Worthington that will be voting on this

(08:48):
for the school board? Any anysocial media page, Facebook page that we
could find more info on you tosee what you're all about. Yeah,
absolutely so, Leah Braky for Worthington'sschool Board on Facebook. And then I
have a website Breaky for Board andthat is b r e A k E
