Speaker 1 (00:00):
Six forty sixty in the morning, Mike Elliott, Columbus's Morning News,
as we check in one final time this week with
our pal Rory O'Neil NBC News Radio on the Legacy
Retirement Group dot Com phone line. So you've got the
trifecta tomorrow, Rory, You've got Flag Day, which is always
celebrated on June fourteenth. It also coincides with the two
hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the US Army, and it
just so happens to be President Trump's seventy ninth birthday,

(00:23):
and there's a big shindig in DC to honor all three.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Certainly is a big military parade. More than six thousand,
seven hundred soldiers are expected to take part, one hundred
and fifty vehicles, fifty aircraft, and let's not forget thirty
four horses, two mules and one dog and one busy
shovels go through this. But it's yeah, it should be
quite the show. Six thirty Eastern time is when things

(00:49):
will kick off Saturday, Right, It's going to run to
the Mall in Washington, essentially from the Lincoln Memorial around
the Washington Monument in that area, and of course things
will wrap up around nine thirty at night with a
big fireworks show.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
And there are some critics of this, you know, mainly
citing the need for it or why do we have
to do this? There is a pretty big price tag
last I saw, I was forty five million. But I mean,
with all the money that does HA saved, maybe they've
got a couple of bucks in their pocket that they
can spend on this kind of thing. But you know,
the other the bigger story there, I think is this
is all the backdrop here is all the protests that

(01:25):
are expected nationwide tomorrow as well well, right.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Because of the parade, and President Trump has wanted to
throw a kind of parade like this even in his
first term. But and typically Americans don't have these kinds
of parades, right, I mean, other countries, other democracies do.
France will do it, and Great Britain does it, but
it's more associated with Russia and China and North Korea.
And it was something and of course Americans had parades

(01:51):
in their own towns and cities, but not this kind
of big, massive parade with missiles and tanks going through
the streets of Washington. So that's going to be different,
and that's this accusation by people saying this is President
Trump's vanity project, and that's why this No Kings event
has been scheduled for today and tomorrow as well, I
think eighteen hundred different events essentially protesting what they call

(02:15):
the show of vanity,
