Speaker 1 (00:00):
Six forty six over to the Legacy Retirement Group dot
com phone line. It's where we see roy O'Neil. NBC
News Radio. As Speaker Johnson quoted Gerald R. Ford yesterday,
the long national nightmare is over, Rory. The presidential or
the government shutdown is over. President signed that late last night.
But in about two and a half months we're back

(00:22):
at this.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah. You know when the government shutdown could happen again
when Groundhog Day? Really yeah, So, I mean the funding
only goes through June's January thirtieth, which is a Friday.
Monday would be Groundhog Day second, and we might be
here all over again.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
That's awesome. I mean it's not, but it's I mean,
it's funny.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Funny part Yeah, And you know that's the reminder here
that this is all very short term because look, this
goes through the holidays. Blink blink, that's over. They're never
in session or hardly in session during the holidays, so
there's not really a lot of work time here in
the ten and a half weeks that this spending build
out covers. It does, however, pay for snap benefits for

(01:08):
the full year. So if when we have a government
shutdown in January February. SNAP won't be an issue that's
gonna be fun. So we're not going to hit that wall. Now,
we haven't done that for the air traffic control workers
or TSA, but at least we've got the SNAP benefits
taken care of.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, no, I like that part of it. I'm just wondering.
And I'm going to talk to Congressman from Ohio Mike
Carey here in about twenty minutes and maybe you can
offer some insight here or at least team me a
question up for him. Why can't we fund the government
for longer than two months at a time. Why can't
we do this for like six months or a full
year like we did with the SNAP benefits?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Right, Well, they've been trying to get back to what
they call regular order. Speaker Johnson says that they're sort
of on a track to do that, but it's taking
some time. You know. What they passed was a minibus
that did include three of the bills, spending bills for
the year ahead. They've got some others that are also
in the mix. You know, they don't pass one big budget.
They sort of do it by it broke broken down

(02:09):
into you know, I think it's twelve different authorizations, right,
so for different parts of the government. So yeah, I'm
with you, But this has been an issue for a
couple of decades now

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
