Speaker 1 (00:00):
So you ever wondered how much that huge house cost
in home alone, and by the way, what it would
cost to fly that big family of theirs to Paris
for the holidays. This is interesting. I love what you
got coupons house. There's no coupons, I don't think. In
(00:21):
nineteen ninety it was filmed in Winnetka, Illinois. That's where
this house is located. And uh, there was a sale
this year for that house five point two five million.
So I thought that was interesting. But the real life
property it sold for eight hundred and seventy five thousand
(00:43):
back in nineteen eighty nine, eight hundred and seventy five thousand,
again in twenty twelve, sold for one point five to
eight million, then after the renovation sold again this year
five point two five million.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
It had to be renovated. You would think somebody would
be keeping the place up just because of its notary.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Well, it is an old home, so they had to
do some probably updates and so on to it. Okay,
the cheapest flights for those plane tickets would be pretty
pricey as well. On Kayak currently flying from Chicago to Paris,
leaving December twentieth, returning December twenty sixth is right around
(01:24):
three hundred and twenty four dollars per person. No, no, no,
and one nine hundred and fifty eight dollars for the
most direct route first class, same flight would cost about
eighty five hundred dollars per person to fly to Paris,
and so that means that that trip for that family
(01:44):
currently the mcallisters, if you will, Kevin in the India,
would cost more than fifty five thousand dollars, which is
basically what Bob mcgelegate gets paid per game calling the Columbus.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Is it per game now? He used to be per syllable.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
No, it's per game now.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Sounds so good. You got to invest.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, yeah, and he's joining us now, I believe, are
you there, Bob.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Mcgelligan, Uncle Frank is not going on that trip today.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
I love those interesting stories where they kind of map
out what it would really cost for the homes and
so on. I just think that's fascinating.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I don't know, that's a lot of money to lay
out and land and find out you're surrounded by French people,
though I don't think i'd want to do that.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
I just did that last week, and that was only
in Canada.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
At least you can get beer up there.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, there's a lot of beer, there's no question about that.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
After the beer and the cigars, forget about it.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yeah, that is a that's a great plus of being
up there for quite a while. You were there for
the better part of a whole what like six days,
I think something like that.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Yeah. We got there on a Sunday night and left
on a Sunday night. Yeah, we were there for week Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah. Yeah. The Jackets booke ended that road trip. They
with wins, if you will, with a string of losses
in the middle, but coming back two and three, certainly
there's been better road trips. There's been worse for the
Columbus Blue Jackets as well. So they are back on
whole ice tonight and Torts and company are coming to
(03:25):
town the Philadelphia Flyers while they're already here, and they're
coming off that three game losing streak for the Flyers tonight,
they're looking to get off the schneid. And what are
your thoughts on how things are going so far this
season and what we're gonna, you know, see tonight and
so on, Bob.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Well, I think tonight you got two teams that you
just look at their records pretty evenly matched the way
they've played so far this year. The Blue Jackets, I
think they're at the disadvantage even though they're playing at home.
It's usually that first game back from the long trip.
It's kind of the one that's the toughest one to
get the energy for and kid going. But with that
(04:03):
being said, you know, as you said, you lost three
games in the middle of that five game road trip
and there were winnable games there that they weren't able
to get anything done with. So the emphasis will be on,
you know, getting the wins at home. There are three
games at home this week. This team has played really
well at home. They have an opportunity to really rise
(04:23):
in the standings if they could rip off a couple
of wins here. So they'll be given the effort, there's
no doubt about that. In the Flyers again, record wise similar,
you know, they've got some new pieces. They've get that
Matt Baby Mitchikov who came over from Russia, who was
the first round picked a couple of years ago, and
he's really added a lot of offense and a lot
of flair to their team. So we'll see what we
(04:45):
get tonight.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
You know what I like too about this team this year,
Bob and I don't know, you and I have talked
about this a million times with regard to my low
Hockey IQ and so, but it feels to me like
this team, this current team could win literally any game
that they get out on the ice to play. And
(05:08):
if they get clicking and they're all working as a unit, man,
they are really tough to play against. And I don't
know what to credit that to. It seemed like last year,
for instance, when it was always like, oh man, unless
we played somebody who was so so bad, we didn't
even have half of a chance. That's the way that
it felt. Anyway. I don't know that that was reality,
(05:28):
but that's the way it felt last year. This year,
you know, when they start playing the Jets, I was
thinking to myself, I'm like, man, we are going to
get smoked. That's really the way that I felt. And
then you know, they end up doing what they did. Now,
I guess Winnipeg was coming off of maybe they had
played the night before or whatever, so yeah, maybe they
had little heavier legs or whatever it is, but I'll
(05:49):
take it. And there were two near misses on those
empty netters too that almost went in, and finally we
get that last one to go and kind of bury
him there. But I don't know, Well, am I wrong
in feeling that way or do you understand what I'm
trying to say there?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Well, unbelievably, I do understand what you're trying to You
didn't make a good point. I mean, look, the Winnipeg
game was that was set up for terrible end of
a road trip. I mean, you're taking on a team
that just pounded you a couple of weeks ago here
six to two, made you look like you couldn't do
(06:28):
anything right, and a team that was the first one
in the league to get the twenty wins. And yeah,
they played the night before in Chicago. But you know
the fact of the matter is the Blue Jackets played.
Look this system that they are built to play. They
they are not one of the top offensive teams in
the league, although they've scored way more goals than I
(06:49):
thought that they would score. Yep, But the system that
Dean Everson has them playing, it's as simple as this.
If they play it, if they do what they're supposed
to do, play to the game plan, and if you
do it for sixty minutes, not fifty nine, not forty eight,
not thirty two, not twenty like they did in Vancouver.
If they play it the entire way through, you're absolutely right,
(07:10):
they have a chance to beat anybody in the National
Hockey League. And that's how they've beaten some big teams
in the National Hockey League so far this year. So
you are correct in your assessment. They do have the
talent to pull it off. It's just all about the
Sometimes it's between the years that gets them, not the
actual way that they play the game and the skill
they have on the ice.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
All right, this is it is really really exciting to
watch them every time they tee it up. For me,
it really is, especially I don't like to your point
with how many goals they have scored this year, especially
you know. Finally, I'm you know, been in the arena
several different times this year being a partial season ticket
(07:52):
holder and able to watch it has been so fun
being there here in that cannon go off so many times.
And if I may go all the way back to
the Penns game, where I'm telling you, I don't care
if it's an inferior team, I don't even know with
regard to that particular team if they are inferior, But
(08:12):
it was fun watching the Jackets just whoop their ass.
I mean, that was just fun to watch because how
many times have we been on the losing end of that?
Feels like every single time, whether it's there or here
for that matter. But man, it has been so fun
being in the arena, and I feel like that type
of thing is contagious. And there's been incredible support for
(08:34):
the Columbus Blue Jackets thinking about you go all the
way back to two thousand when they started, and the
amount of support that they continue to receive, I feel
like is really really good given this town is used to,
you know, Buckeye football, like where you know, one game,
and I get it, there's not as many games played
with you know, the Buckeyes, But like when you start
(08:55):
thinking about the fan base here is my point. Now,
I get it, it's a hockey fan base, so it's
a little different with with that, But when you give
the fickle kind of nature of what it seems like
the fan base here is in this city, it feels
like there's still pretty pretty damn good support for the
Jackets going right now.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Well, I think that. You know, in football, let's be honest,
there is the expectation to win, not once, not twice,
but twelve times, fourteen times, whatever it's going to take
to win the whole thing. Yeah, and and and that's
tough to do. You're seeing it right now. It's tough
to do. But you know, the fact of the matter
is we talk about this all the time. It's the
National Hockey League. It is the top, the top league
(09:38):
in the sport. It's the best players in the world.
There are no and this is no offense to the
school I'm gonna mention, but there are no Youngstown States
on the schedule right right. I mean, every night you're
going to get the best that somebody else has. So
but that being said, you know what, I think that
here's why I think the Blue Jackets are coming overcoming
is when I say in football there's the expectation to win,
(10:00):
I think for way too long here there was the
expectation to lose for the Blue Jackets. And I'm talking
about people just you know, I think a certain percentage
of people just got to the fact to accept the
fact that well they're just it's fun night, and it's
you know, it's going to be enjoyable. But yeah, they're
just not gonna win. They're just they're just not going
(10:20):
to put things together. And then you know, a couple
of years ago, there was that six run stretch there
when the team was in the playoffs and four straight
and they were sniffing the playoffs and the other ones,
and and you know, all of a sudden, that expectation
comes up a little bit, and that's why it was
so disappointing the last two years, especially in what has
happened here. But you can feel those expectations coming back.
(10:40):
And it's not just from the fans, it's from the players.
And when I talked to the players, Zach Wrisky just
told me a couple of days ago, he goes, we're
sick of losing, We're tired of it. We want to win.
And they feel like they have some tools to win.
And people can see that. People aren't stupid. So you
know this, I'll tell you one thing about this town.
When it comes to the fans, you may not in
every single one, but it's the ones that you're not
(11:03):
trying in that will draw the iron. And I don't
think that this team has had any not trying this year.
They're trying, they're playing hard. There's an appreciation for that.
But that being said, fans, players alike, everybody's ready to
win consistently.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Again, well said man, well said. And then after tonight,
I was just looking, I you know, I don't unless
the Jackets are playing them, I don't really kind of
do any even halfway looking at the other teams. But
the Caps are at nineteen six and two right now,
so after tonight it's on whole ice. But they're gonna
have a tough one with the Caps on Wednesday. So
(11:39):
that's uh, yeah, to your point, it's like, you know,
I don't know as far as the rest of their schedule.
You're probably good off the top of your head with
as you know, with regard to you know, who we.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Were playing on Thursday? What are you talking about? And
I know we play somebody Saturday, and I know we're
in Oh it's Anaheim, That's who it is. And then
we're in Carolina Sunday and we have a day off
in Tampa on Monday before a game they're Tuesday. Now,
Notice I know there's a day off and it's somewhere
near Peach.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Are you taking your speed o true or false?
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Give me the one that rolls down.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Yeah, well, at least you're honest about it. That's good. Hey,
I'm bringing a buddy of mine who might want to
come up. And I know this is inside baseball and
everybody listening, but yeah, I'm bringing a buddy.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
To bring my friends and look cool, here we.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Go, yes, go ahead, No, no, I already look cool.
I don't need you to help me with that.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
But we'll debate that.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, just threw up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Excuse me, but I will. I'm gonna hit you up
if we could, so pay attention to your phone, will
you please, I'm gonna hit you up tonight.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
You know, I get paid to do the game, not
to look at my phone.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Just so you know, hey listen, Uh, it's really important.
I promise it's important. Please, all right, all right, all right,
Bob mcgelligan, have a good call tonight on the game, Jackets,
and thanks brother for joining us. Appreciate you man. All Right,
we'll see YEA.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I'd be real curious to know how the team is feeling,
if they feel the love from Columbus, because yeah, the
record's been a little right they do, but you you
mentioned back when it started in two thousand. Do you
remember the reaction.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Well, the hell yeah, jacket, Well, everybody had to start
getting into it, man, and people still you know. I mean,
I'm one of the people just a few years ago.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
But we say blue jacket now like it's the twenty
seventh letter of the alphabet. It's just it flows normally.
But it was a very hard name even for people
to accept, and the concept of stinger and so forth. Yeah,
I just I hope that, you know, I hope they
feel the love that they get from the City of
Columbus behind them.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
I think they do. And it is electric inside nation
Wide Arena, especially, you know, when that cannon's going off
and there it's fun and I think the players are
starting to feel that. I really do that it is
genuine love inside nation Wide Arena when they're playing. Most
people people there are hockey fans. They understand the game,
and the players notice and they feel that and it's
(14:07):
not by mistake. And it's taken a while to your point,
good and so I feel like it's it's starting to
to kind of happen. Wait till they win a Stanley,
Oh my gosh, if they ever get to that point here.
Hopefully we don't go into Brown's syndrome, but that's when
they're probably really gonna get disgusted with the people here
because kind of to Bob mcgelligan's point, it's like they
(14:28):
start winning and people are gonna be like, Okay, now
you're supposed to do that all the time. Ah, this
ain't the Buckeye.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I hope we know what to do with it when
it happens. I believe it will happen. But we got
to treat champions like champions in this city, and I
think we have a bad record of not getting that done.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
That's a fact. Great point.
