(00:29):
get the Hello everyone, and welcome to the Daily Road
to Hour here on Sports Grade TV. I am Davis Mannick,
joined today by Christopher Pacheco. In this show, we are
going to deliver our official Major League Baseball predictions for
the season. We're gonna we're gonna put it officially on

(00:49):
the record what we think is going to happen in
the sixty game season, and then we're gonna go through
all of the MLB news and notes that that we need.
So as we are speaking, the MLB season has gone underway,
as as when you guys are watching this, So Pacheco,
we have we have baseball back, the the American pastime.
It's back in our lives. How are we feeling, Oh,

(01:11):
we're we're feeling great about it. Um. Not only is
is baseball back, but the NBA is going to be
back next week. So American sports are starting to ramp up,
and we're definitely excited about it. Yeah, we are. We
are super excited about it. So we are we are
going to begin with our official predictions of what we
think is going to happen in baseball in and you know,

(01:34):
I think we should just start with I think we
should just start at the very top. Pocheco, who plays
in Christopher Pacheco's World Series in Well, I think the
Dodgers and And I'm not you know when I when
I say these predictions, I'm not just like telling you
to go bet these right. It's just it's just a

(01:56):
matter of like what I think is going to happen
for the season. I think the Dodgers coming out of
the National League makes the most sense to me. Um,
you know, if you were to tell me right now,
without looking at anything, who I think the best two
teams are, I'd say the Dodgers and the Yankees. Uh.

(02:16):
And I think that is the most likely outcome this season.
I think in the American League, I think the Astros
could certainly make a big push. And I think the
Twins um are another team that I really like. Um,
I'm not sure if they have the elite pitching to
get there, but certainly have all the bats um to
get there. But I think the most likely scenario Davis said,

(02:39):
we get a Dodgers Yankees matchup, uh in the World Series. Yeah,
I mean, I agree with you that. I so, I
think the Dodgers are the clear favorite in the National League.
You know, I think they are definitely a tier better
than the Atlanta Braves. You know, I think they're definitely
better than the Nationals. I think there are a lot
better than the Mets. Like if you just look at
the World Series few tuer market, you will see that

(03:01):
represented where. You know, it's just far and away that
the Dodgers are the best team. However, in the American League,
I'm gonna pick against the New York Yankees in the
sense that you know, I think Judge in stands health
is always gonna be a little bit questionable. I have,
of course, some questions on the long term performance of
guys like DJ le Mayhew, and even a little bit

(03:21):
of questions about Glabor Torres, who was a pretty average
player when he was not playing the Baltimore Orioles. Now,
granted he's gonna get to play the Baltimore Orioles a
ton In, but I I have some small questions about
the performance of the New York Yankees, So I am
actually gonna go the other way in that division and
I am gonna go with the Tampa Bay Rays as

(03:43):
our ale champion. So we're gonna get a Dodgers Raise
World Series. And part of that is, of course, the uh,
you know, tremendous batting lineup versus right handed pitching for
the Raise, Gi Manchoy, Yanni Diaz, Susugo, Renfro, Brandon Low
their top five against right handed pitching. You know, that's
that's very solid. They definitely have some upside two in

(04:06):
terms of you know, they can call it Wander Franco
like there are there are some prospects that they can
bring up. Same for for Brandon McKay as well. But
also I don't think that they get very much respect
in terms of how strong their bullpen is. And I
think bullpens are gonna I think we're gonna look back
on the season and we're gonna say, oh, these teams

(04:27):
with amazing bullpens that could throw five clean innings ended
up being the teams are a huge competitive advantage, and
these are the top five. UH. These are the top
five relief pitchers for Tampa Bay. Nick Anderson projected three
seven r A, Diego Castillo projected three forty six, Jose
Alvarado four point or a three point four one UH
than Chas Row with more projected strikeouts than innings pitch,

(04:51):
but with a slightly higher e r A. And then
Oliver Drake again more strikeouts than endings pitched and it
projected three forty three e r A. So I think
that overall combination of how strong this team is with
this you know, just coffin of a bullpen Pacheco, I
think that's gonna be a massive advantage for the race. Well,
I think if if you're picking the Rays to get

(05:13):
out of out of the American League, I think a
big reason for that is the pitching. And it's not
just the bullpen. I think they're they're starting pitching now
that they're healthy. You know, Blake Snell, Tyler Glass, now
Charlie Morin as a one to three is you know,
a really really good one to three. UM. I think
offensively they don't really stack up with teams like the Yankees,

(05:36):
the Twins, UH, perhaps even the Astros. I think there's
their bats are good. Uh, don't think they're great when
compared to some of the other foes that they're gonna
have to face. But if they're coming out of the
out of the American League, Davis, it's certainly going to
be because of their pitching. Yeah, and it's not that
it's not the Yankees have bad pitching right there there.

(05:56):
Bullpen also is very strong Zach britt An Adam out
of Vito, Tommy Kinley and Chad Green. I mean maybe
you could argue that the lower that the lower portions
of their bullpen are not quite as good. Also interesting that,
uh it seems like the Yankees might be going with
a four man pitching rotation for for the beginning of
the season, with Garrett Cole, James Paxton, j Happ and

(06:19):
then uh fellow by the name of Michael King who
has you know, he's basically just a long time Yankees
prospect projected for a four point to five e r A.
So I actually think maybe you could even argue that
the Rays have stronger pitching. Now clearly they have no
argument to a stronger batting order. And uh, yeah, just

(06:39):
I think a lot of what I'm gonna be doing
early on in the season, is focusing on the strength
of bullpens, focusing on the strength of starting pitching in
terms of how I am going to be placing wagers,
and uh you know, as far as I can tell,
I I essentially think that, uh you know, the the
Rays pitching is gonna be stronger. However, the fact that
rosters are going to thirty man rosters this year to

(07:00):
be considered an advantage for the Yankees, who are definitely
one of the deepest teams, and the same is true
for the Dodgers in the National League as well. But
we're gonna go ahead and head into our first break
here on the daily Road to hour on sports grid TV.
When we return, we're going to make our predictions for
A L and n L, m v P and Cy
Young and then move into some baseball news and notes

(08:05):
and welcome back from break here on the daily road
to hour on sports Cred TV. I'm Davis Mannock, joined
by Christopher Pacheco. In today's show, we are going around
the diming making our official predictions for the MLB season
as we have a couple of games under our belt
here and then also going to go through all the
news and notes that you need to know what's going
on in Major League Baseball right now. And Pacheco, we

(08:28):
both pick the Dodgers to win the National League. You
picked the Yankees. I picked the Rays to win the
American League. I think we will agree though the World
Series winner. I just I just do not see how
anyone beats a relatively healthy Los Angeles Dodgers team. Even
I think they are deep enough to even really sustain
a couple injuries and still be the best team in baseball. Yeah,

(08:53):
I agree with you and don't have a lot else.
As you know, obviously they added Mookie Betts to an
already loaded roster. You know, Davis, it's it's an embarrassment
of riches that these dudes have over there. Um if
they don't, if there is no substantial injury to their lineup.
This is what we're looking at, you know, for for

(09:15):
the season. Mookie Betts, Max Munzley, Justin Turner, Coty Balinger,
and Corey Seeger. A little bit of a question mark
regarding his health, but I think this year he should
be fine. Uh A J. Pollock, Jack Peterson, Key Kicker,
Namdez or Chris Taylor or Gavin Lux whenever he gets
called up, and Will Smith at catcher Davis. There's just

(09:36):
no holes, uh in this lineup, and typically in baseball
there's just gonna be at least one of you know,
at least one or two line up spots in a
really deep lineup, and you're like, okay, you know, at
least we can get through those guys. There's there's literally
no easy out here. And we have two uh m
v p s in the same line up. Mookie Betts
one of two thousand and eighteen American League MVP, Coute

(09:56):
Balinger one two thousand nineteen National League MVP. So, uh,
it's as deep as it gets. You're right when you
say that they can sustain you know, multiple even significant injuries. Um.
Though obviously for a World Series winner, Um, you have
to kind of run good on health. So after you
get you know, two significant injuries, you know, is it

(10:17):
to the pitching staff? Um? Is that you know? Is
it to Mookie Bets and Cody Ballinger both? You know,
we don't know those sort of things. But as long
as health is in their favor, Um, I think the
Dodgers are a slam dump pick to win the World Series.
The real challenge Aaron Davis is betting them to win
the World Series just not a whole lot of value there.
And that's why we've had shows talking about better values

(10:39):
than them potentially win in the World Series. Yeah. Um,
And I think the adoption of the universal d H
is going to end up being massive for them as well.
It means that they can play Jack Petterson as a
d age instead of in the outfield, So that means
better defensive players a J. Pollock, Um, Cody Bellinger and
Mookie Betts get to play their outfield positions. And also

(11:00):
you know, against left handed pitching, they can basically just
be in a there there can be a platoon at
d H and Jock will not have to face left
handed pitching. They can, you know, they can play Enrique
Hernandez off the bench as at that d H position.
And it's not like they don't, you know, they have
more prospects coming right Gavin Lux and Dustin May who
are not with the Major League Baseball team right now.

(11:21):
Those guys can be called up at some point during
the year. Of course, the pitching rotation Clayton Kershaw, Ross Tripling,
Julio Urias, Alex wood Walker, Bueller insane, the bullpen with
Kenley Jansen, Pedro Bias, Joe Kelly Blake trying, and I
mean they just uh, and even even Bruce Star Graddole,
who was in involved in that Mookie Bets trade as
a guy who has loads and loads of upside over

(11:43):
the course of sixty games as a bullpen arm. I mean,
that guy. You know, he's gonna strike out so many
guys once once he gets in to uh, you know,
once he gets in that bullpen rotation. And actually, um,
you know they even have I guess it's not gonna
end up mattering this year because of a lower back surgery,
but I had forge gotten that they signed Jimmy Nelson
in free agency. Like, imagine if Jimmy Nelson was there

(12:06):
long man like they would be, they would be even
more frightening. No, they don't. They don't need they don't.
They don't need anything else to go right for them.
I think the one big thing for them moving forward is, um,
the health of their pitching staff. David Price already opted
out for the year. Um, their pitching staff is still

(12:26):
you know, awesome. But if you just, you know, could
you sustain an injury to Walker Wheeler, who is really
their best picture? Probably not. And that's what I was
mentioning earlier David, is that, like, to win the World Series,
not only do you have to have a lot of talent,
you also have to be healthy. And typically the healthiest
team kind of gets there, so the Doctors get that

(12:46):
break in their favor. Um, it's just it's just gonna
be really tough for them not to win the World Series.
A lot would have to go wrong as far as
their their you know, in field performance, and I just
don't see that happening. Yeah, alright, So moving on now
to our projected uh M v P s. I think
for the American League, uh I check up. I think

(13:09):
this is the year a Picture is gonna win it
because of the of the small sample size. Now, obviously,
you know, someone like Josh Donaldson could hit home runs
in sixty games, you know, just go on one of
those absurd hot streaks that is going to happen over
a smaller sample. But taking that further, I think there's
a Picture that could go undefeated, right that could like

(13:29):
maybe allow like four runs over ten starts, or you know,
just something crazy, you know, back to back shutouts, or
or if you happen to have a no hitter during
the course of this season, like it's just gonna really
alter your numbers. So uh I my official prediction for
both American League m v P and AlSi Young is
Garrett Cole. I think this is a year we see

(13:50):
a Picture in the American League win the m v P.
I think that the shortened season really is just a
it's gonna be too hard for Mike Trout to win
over six the games. You know, it's more likely for
him to win in a hundred and sixty two games
season where he has a chance to just be better
than everyone every single day, whereas over sixty games there's
just so much more noise. Yes, yes, I totally understand

(14:14):
where you're coming from. But like might try is still
gonna be better than everyone. I think, even over a
sixty game season, And mind you, I think this year, uh,
probably more than ever, the Angels are positioning themselves to
perhaps at least make a wild card spot. And and
most of the years we're talking about Trold as well,

(14:34):
he put up all these insane numbers, but his team
is like second to that last in in his division
or like they're definitely not going to make the playoffs. Well,
I think this year it's gonna be different. And you know,
I know it's so Chalk David's because Trout is, you know,
the leader as far as um you know, the Fantal
sports book, him being plus one to one the m

(14:57):
v P. But unless he's you know, unless he's diseased, like,
he's still the best player in baseball. And I don't
think anything has changed there. So even over a sixty
game sample, I think Trout is is now, especially now
that Bets, it's not gonna be around um, you know JD. Martinez,
who's who's an unbelievable hitter, but it's not really gonna

(15:18):
play the field and it really isn't contention to to
win an m v P. I think Trout now has
a very clear path to one of the MVP, especially
in a season where his team should be pretty competitive. Yeah. Um,
on the National League side, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna.
I'm not gonna double up on not gonna double up

(15:38):
on starting pitchers. But I think, you know, again, it's
very likely that the m v P does end up
coming from the Los Angeles Dodgers, as we as we mentioned,
and you know, I hate to I hate to go
to Chalky, but you gotta pick a Dodger because they're
gonna win the most games, right, So I think you
gotta go Balinger. I think you gotta go Bets or

(16:00):
if you wanted to go off the board, you go.
Sixty games gonna be harder for gonna be harder for
Corey Seeker to get hurt or less at least fewer opportunities.
But I'm I'm going Chalk, We're going. We're going back
to back. Cody Bellinger wins m vps back to back
years in the National League as the Dodgers win forty
games in a sixty game season. Yeah, and I'm right

(16:22):
there with you. Um, I really do hate being this chalkie.
But like once he starts to get into the pics
and like all the projections, it's just so likely unless
there is an injury or like an insane reduction and
performance um this year for Bets and Bellinger, that it's
gonna be hard for me not to see them when

(16:43):
this this MVP. Bets, by the way, it's gonna be
leading off in this offense. And I think, you know,
the ballpark is is maybe a little bit of a
concern because he's he's going from playing you know a
l East Parks and Fenway Park being in his home park. Uh,
the now a little bit bigger ballparks still leading off

(17:03):
for that offense. You know, you're talking about so many runs,
so many you know, RBI opportunities. Once you get that
wrap around, UM, I think that's is a shoe went
to win this thing. Yeah, and uh, you know, surprisingly
enough to me, you can get Clayton kershot pretty decent
odds to win the National League Cy Young again. We
do we we that this has kind of become the

(17:24):
Dodger Show, but we think that the Dodgers are kind
of just gonna steamroll over the National League and Clayton Kershaw,
a former cy Young winner who seems to have kind
of refound his form a little bit at so I
I actually I'm gonna go semi non shok here with
Clayton kershot to win the National League cy Young. But
we're gonna go ahead and head into our second break

(17:47):

M is Sports Green, Get on the grad Hello everyone,

(18:34):
and welcome back to break here on the Daily Rodo Hour.
I am Davis Mannock joined by Christopher Procheco, going around
the diamond here on the Daily Rodo Hour. It's officially
baseball season. In the first couple of segments of the show,
we broke down our official predictions. We both think the
Los Angeles Dodgers are gonna win the World Series. Pacheco
picks the Yankees against them. I pick the Rays. Uh

(18:55):
we I think Grritt Cole can win both the American
League m VP and the SAI. We have, of course,
one Dodgers outfielder winning the National League MVP and then
probably a Dodgers starting pitcher or a National starting pitcher
winning the n l CY Young But now we are
going to move to some news and notes, and Pacheco,
things went from bad to batter to worst to worst

(19:18):
for your Boston Red Sox over the last couple of weeks.
Uh So, just these these news and notes that we
have right now on the Boston Red Sox pitching rotation. Um,
they are currently as we are speaking right now, Eddie
Rodriguez has been shut down due to COVID nineteen complications.
Now it's not that that's not to say he's gonna
miss the entire year or anything like that. But also

(19:39):
in corresponding news, Dylan Covey is going to be entering
the Boston Red Sox rotation and the team is also
exploring uh Zach Godly as a starting pitching option for
the team. So as of right now, with this injury
to with you know, with this d L stand for
Eddie Rotterriguez, this is the projected starting pitcher rotation for

(20:00):
your Boston Red Sox nate of all the Martin Perez,
Ryan Weber, Matt Hall, and Dylan Covey, with Zach Godley
as someone that they've reached out to. I think he's
at the alternate training site. And you know, they guys
can come from the alternate training site whenever effectively, so
that is another option. This this can't make you feel

(20:21):
very good as a Boston Red Sox fan. No, no, no, no, no,
it certainly doesn't. Um. You know, I always thought Dylan
Covey and Zach Godley were guys that I had some
talent but could have really put it together. Especially Kobe.
I think he's had like a career a career e

(20:41):
r A like over six um, and that happened was
not good whatsoever with the White Sox. Godley had major
control issues. UM, but I thought, you know, always had
a good curveball. Um. These are the top of guys
that the Red Sox we're gonna have to experiment what
David and I think, um from watching godly pitch today
for them in a you know, an abbreviated games to

(21:03):
the game actually got called. UM. You know, I thought
he looked he looked pretty okay, but obviously it's you know,
it's an exhibition game and it doesn't count. Um. It's
this is obviously really major because with with Walter Rodriguez
was clearly the best pitcher. UM kind of shut down.
It doesn't look like it's gonna be anything major. Uh,
it does seem like it has to deal a little

(21:24):
bit with the COVID nine team. UM stuff. As far
as he's he just looks tired. I think he threw
a open and just didn't feel great afterwards. UM, and
he started that he misses moving forward, it's just gonna
be a really big deal for the Red Sox. UM.
So whether or now this meeting team misses you know,
a second or third star of the season, that's gonna

(21:46):
be really brutal for them. Obviously, the offense is still
very good. Pitching wise, they don't really stay in the
chance with any of the teams in in the A Leagues,
except of course the Baltimore Orioles. Uh yeah, yeah, I mean,
so just to give an idea, this is these are
Dylan Dylan Covey's career numbers uh six and a half
e r A. However, he's had two separate seasons seventeen

(22:08):
and twenty nineteen with an e r A north of
seven and a half. And you might think, well, maybe
Dylan Covey is just getting really unlucky his field His
fielding independent pitching five and a half is expected fielding
independent pitching uh four point nine. And then those are
for his career has never generated, you know, a strikeout
rate higher than sixteen percent. His walk rate for his

(22:30):
career as above ten percent. This is a guy in
daily fantasy of course, to uh definitely be targeting against.
And also, I mean our Red Sox overs are gonna
have I mean, checko, They're gonna have to make Red
Sox totals like the thirteen runs because it's just gonna
be insane. They have no pitching and and the top
of the lineup is still good and it's going to

(22:52):
be able to drive in runs like those are gonna
be such high scoring run environments, no doubt about it.
Uh personally, wasn't really read about the offense, even without
Mookie in there. Obviously it's gonna take it. It's gonna
be a hit to the lineup, But offensively, I think
they're going to be very very competent. Um Pitching wise, Davis,
it's it's really thin and obviously they're gonna have to

(23:13):
throw some bullpen games in there. Um, and I think
they're bullpen last year kind of overperformed relative to the
talent level that they had, so um, if the bullpen
now also, you know, kind of regresses. Um, it's gonna
be a Ninemare season for the Red Sox. Pitching wise, Yeah,
I don't. I don't really think there is I don't

(23:33):
really think there's any other way to go around it
than that staying in the same division. Brandon McKay and
Nate Lowe are both not starting the season with the
Tampa Bay Rays. I gotta say Brandon McKay not being
with the big league team did kind of surprise me.
But checko. You know, for those people who uh don't know,
McKay is a two way prospects, so he is both

(23:58):
a starting pitcher and you know, can can hit as well.
And I gotta think in a season where you know,
if it's just it's just a weird season, right, and
and guys who can contribute in more ways are going
to be pretty valuable. And even even McKay last year,
who started eleven games and recorded a five point one
four e r A but a almost four flat fielding

(24:19):
independent pitching, like, even that is kind of valuable. But also,
you know, you got to remember that he is a
decent enough bat a three eighteen waited on base average
last year not very many played appearances, but was was
an above average hitter in the minor leagues. I I
this this is surprising to me. Well, it certainly is,

(24:40):
but I think, um, you know, the Gavin Lux thing
was was very suprising for the Dodgers as well, right,
But you have to just keep in mind that even
if these guys don't start the year off with the
major league team, it's very likely that they end up
being on the team at some point during the season.
And I think that's pretty much where you're going to see.
What with Brandon mackay, I think he's talented enough for

(25:02):
sure to be on the major league team and contribute, um,
you know, sticking to the news and Nose Davis and
the a l east. Uh. The Blue Jays might playing
Camden Yards, which I think offensively is really nice for
them because the first ballpark that they were throwing out
there was PNC Park, um, which is very difficult for hitters,

(25:24):
especially righty hitters. UM. So I think Camden at least
is a little bit comparable to their actual homepark, Roger Center. UM.
So that would be you know that that would at
least be comparable enough for them. Yeah, if we want
to go back and look in at at twenty nineteen
park factors, basically you can see that p n C

(25:46):
was kind of middle of the road in terms of runs.
It was at overall in runs, you know, very close
to the average, but if you look at home runs,
it was worse than average. Uh, you know, t Mobile City, UH,
Miller Park, Progressive Field all better home runs parks, PNC
below averaging hits below average in UH but but actually

(26:10):
weirdly enough, because the what you see with these fields
that have these massive outfields is actually above average in doubles.
But the Orioles Ballpark above average and runs way above
average in home runs. In fact, was the uh fourth best,
you know, fourth most friendly park to home runs. UH,
and then you you know, you look at what you

(26:30):
look at the Rogers Center in Toronto, No ballpark was
actually more friendly for home runs. So, I mean, what
a disaster for fantasy baseball and for gambling purposes. If
the Blue Jays who built this team, like, if you
look at their lineup, they're like, oh, we just want
to hit dingers. You know, all we care about is
putting up crooked numbers on the board. It would have
been a nightmare for them as a team to have

(26:52):
to have gone and played in pn C. I actually
think that playing in PNC probably would have cost them
two or three wins over the course of a season
because of the way their team is built. Yeah, I
don't necessarily think you're wrong, especially when you start to
look at their pitching staff. You know, it's it's a
little bit better than it was last year. But they're
not built from pitching to offense. Uh, They're They're really

(27:15):
built through the offense, and they you know, they have
to get as many wins as possible um offensively. So
I'm an agreement with you. I think playing in Camden
Yards to our PNC park is actually a really big deal,
not just for gambling, purposes, but also from a DFS standpoint,
it's gonna be a really big deal moving forward. Yeah,

(27:36):
I think that. I think that's probably true, though though
we should know this is not this is not confirmed yet,
so you know, they're still trying to achieve solutions for this.
I saw I saw one solution which was just you know,
these guys, what if they just play every game on
the road Pacheco. That would be I mean, you gotta
think that is a brutal outcome for the Blue Jay's, right,

(27:58):
like they they they have to be, they have to
feel absolutely miserable if they end up having to play
every game on the road. I mean, yes, you know
for this year, Davis, I don't know, you just got right.
You just gotta take what you get in I guess,
because there's just there's not gonna be any fans regardless
of whether you play on the road or at home.

(28:19):
But my you know, my understanding is you don't you
don't want to just travel all the time. You actually
want to settle down and be in your own place.
And I think that's probably the biggest thing for these players.
Um yeah, I yeah, I definitely think that's true. I would,
you know, I would like to see them play somewhere, uh,
you know, similarly the home run boosting year over years,

(28:41):
so you know, someone somewhere like Great American Ballpark in
Cincinnati or in course, like you know, imagine imagine sixty
games of this Blue Jay's lineup and coreps, you know,
just Josh Donaldson getting to hit, getting to hit dingers
up there in the uh, you know, in the in
the thin Colorado, Colorado Rocky's Mountain Air. The Mayor owners
have placed catcher Tom Murphy on the injured list with

(29:03):
a fracture in his left foot. Murphy actually a guy
that we kind of like for fantasy baseball. Now we know,
obviously the Mariners are terrible, so they're not big gambling
implications or anything like this, but you know, Murphy would
have been one of the few catchers who you know,
would have batted fourth or fifth probably every single day.
Would have been a guy who would have been pretty
consistently getting played appearances in in meaningful spots. And now

(29:27):
it looks like we're gonna get at least probably twenty
games of Austin Nola, if not more. That's yeah, a
little bit of you know, it's it's it's a big
deal for the Mariners, right, everything like this is a
big deal missing a big hit or again in Tom Murphy,
I think it is going to be a big deal
for this team. But obviously Davis from a from a

(29:48):
winning standpoint, they're not gonna win many games anyway. Um,
so it might be a thing for them fantacy wise. Um,
but even then you're not gonna be playing them a
lot and d ffs either. So um, it's it's really
it's gonna be a bit fultier for the Mariners. Yes
it is. So now we're gonna go ahead and head
into our second to last break here on the daily

(30:10):
Road to hour on sports Grid TV. We will continue
our MLB news and notes coverage. When we return, we
will discuss Jose Kintana heading to the the d L,
some of the Los Angeles Dodgers roster moves, and more,
continuing to go around the Diamond in just a few moments.

(30:59):
you're watching sports Crede Get on the Grade. Hello everyone,
and welcome to d Daily Rhodo, our here on Sports
Creed TV. I am Davis Maddick, joined by Christopher Pacheco.
We are heading into our fourth segment here on the
show today, going around the diamond around Major League Baseball,
getting everyone caught up and ready to know what is

(31:20):
going on in the Major League Baseball season. We've already
seen a couple of games played. We have made our
predictions for our World Series winner R A L and
n L m V P R A L and n
L Cy Young. Now going through all of the important
news and notes that we have going on in baseball
right now, and a couple of big news and notes

(31:41):
for the Los Angeles Angels, Pacheco. The first one is
Mike Trout. He's playing now. He did not commit to playing,
you know, all sixty games or not leaving the team
when his pregnant wife, you know, has their first child.
But he has said now, you know, initially he was
saying he wasn't sure. Now he is saying he has
committed for you're to playing with the team to start

(32:02):
the year. So that is that is massive news for
the obviously the m v P market, right, obviously for
fantasy baseball, obviously for betting lines. As it pertains to
the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. So yeah, we we're
gonna get to see Mike Trout in So I think
the biggest thing, Davis, if you're picking against Trout and

(32:24):
the m v P market, would be not for on
field performance over sixty games, because if he does play
these games, I really do believe that he's still, you know,
the best hitter, not just in the American League but
in all baseball. And I think he would accrue enough
of the statistics to be the m v P. It's
actually how many games is he going to play? So

(32:45):
if you're picking against him, you're hoping that he actually
ends up playing like, say games instead of fifty five,
you know, closer to sixty. And I think obviously every
game is meaningful. So that's really the only way that
I see, you know, Betty against Mike Trout and the
m d P market. Um. Yeah, and as as it,

(33:07):
you know, as it pertains to the Los Angeles Angels,
now they have they got the great news of Mike
Trout coming back, they got the bad news of uh,
you know, they're only other all Star caliber level. Well, oh,
Otani in a healthy season will make will make the
All Star team. But Anthony Rendon uh is maybe gonna
start the season on the i L. They have not

(33:27):
placed him on the injured list yet, but the manager
there said that he is not gonna be ready for
opening day, probably not going to play the first week
of the season. So that is a that is a
pretty big bummer because you know, like we're looking at this,
We're looking at this Los Angeles Angels, uh, you know,
hitting group, and outside of Trout, Randon and Otani, we
got uh, you know, poo holes not great justin Upton, fine,

(33:52):
Brian Goodwin. I guess the replacement for Rendon at third
base is David Fletcher not not a particularly relevant guy
for for fantasy or for betting purposes. Yeah, and then maybe,
you know, maybe they can get Matt Stassy some some
of bats against right handed pitching, like of course, Dave
was a guy like Rendon. You just can't replace, right

(34:15):
I can't find a guy off the street and expect
them to perform like Anthony Rendon would. I think the
hope for the Angels is that Redon just misses a
couple of games, uh, and that's it. Nothing longer than that.
And I think if that's the case, then they're going
to be completely fine. But yes, the replacements are not
going to be you know, above average hitters or anything
like that. Yeah. So, uh, and I guess I I

(34:38):
like the Angel like it's kind of a weird thing.
Like I I like the Angels uniforms, I like their ballpark.
I like Trout, I like Photani Like there's just a
team I feel kind of I feel kind of affectionate towards.
So it's a it's a bummer. That's Mike Trout is
gonna be surrounded by a bunch of by a bunch
of slapp eas this year, but sticking in that same division.

(34:59):
Not great news. A J. Puck, the young superstar pitcher
for the Oakland Athletics. He has been placed on the
ten day injured reserve list. However, my my guest Pacheco
is he is gonna end up staying on the injured
reserve list for a lot longer than ten days because
he has received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder

(35:19):
and is now completely resting it for or forty eight hours.
And uh, you know, the Angels, they're probably or the Athletics,
they're probably not gonna win the division. They're not even
close to a World Series favorite. I I don't know
if I really think that we're actually gonna see a J.
Puck um past our pitch this season. I think it
actually from an organizational perspective, I think both him and

(35:43):
Jesus Lozardo, I just think we're not going to see
them this year. So well, I thought Lazardo we we
would see. I thought Puck, given the news that we
have now is probably not a favorite for us, let's
see him uh the season. And I think you're right.
Day was like, I think this Athletics team continues to improve. Um,

(36:06):
you know, certainly could could buy for a playoff spot,
like a wild card spot or something like that. Um,
it's still very tough for me to see them when
the division. UM, they certainly have a lot of talent,
but they need to get some of these things going
in their favor right. So injuries included guys like A. J.
Pucking and and Us Losardo. Uh, they're young guys that

(36:28):
have a lot of talent on the pitching side of things,
would have to be healthy in order for them to
make you know, a substantial run. Yeah. Um. And just
so just to clarify on Lozardo, so right now he
is in the thirty man roster, but he is uh,
he's one of their bullpen arms. So but I think
maybe their plan is to kind of alternate him and

(36:49):
Daniel Mangdon, who is right now their fifth starter. Actually
probably wouldn't surprise me to maybe see Mangdon as an
opener with Lozardo backing him up. And I mean, don't
get me wrong, I hope we see Jesus Lozardo. But
at the at the first sign of trouble with him,
you know, if his shoulder starts to go, which is
obviously what's going on with a j puck, you know,
if that happens with Lozardo. Uh. And I actually think

(37:11):
we're gonna see a lot of teams do this with
their young pictures because the way service time works this year,
for Major League Baseball players who are not on their
second contract yet every day they are on the active
roster this year, it actually counts to like three days
of service time in a normal year. So if Lozardo
stays on the roster for all sixty games for the Athletics,

(37:31):
his service time is going to be manipulated in such
a way that it's really actually like he almost played
um two seasons worth of games, and so he's gonna
get to his second contract much earlier. So I really
would not be surprised to see a ton of these teams,
uh move on or send guys to the alternate training
site very very quickly. Uh, Jake oder Rizzi to the

(37:53):
d L. This is this is actually, this is pretty
big news for the Minnesota Twins because you and I
both like their back We both like their team. But Odorizzi,
even with his limitations, was like their second or third
best starting pitcher, and those innings are now going to
go to someone who is much worse. Certainly, UM, again,

(38:14):
you have to have these breaks go in your favor.
You can just have your you know, second third best
starting pitcher going the injury list, you know to start
the season. Is that that kind of puts you in
a tough spot. Thankfully, for the Twins, Davis, their offense
really is good enough to be able to sustain some
of these injuries to the pitching staff, but over the

(38:34):
course of the full sixty game season, they're they're gonna
need some healthy, you know, pictures and good pitching performances
for them to not just win the division but make
some noise in the playoffs, which for them is it's
probably the most important thing at this point. Yeah, we
have to, uh, we got to talk about some of
the weird things that the Dodgers did. So not only

(38:56):
is Gavin Luck sent down, who we thought was gonna
be there every day second baseman, but but checko, they
also are not moving on with Dustin May as one
of the members of their thirty man roster. He got
sent back to the alternate training site as well. And uh,
you know, Ross Strippling a fine starting pitcher, Julio Euria
is a fine starting pitcher, but Dustin May is the

(39:18):
sort of uh, top fifteen overall, you know prospect in
baseball where you would expect him to immediately contribute to
winning right away as a rookie. I I don't really
understand why the Dodgers did not roll with Dustin May
from from Game one. So honestly, Davids, the the answer

(39:39):
my surprise of you, but I actually don't think that
they don't right away. Um, same thing with Gavin Lux.
There's nothing Uh, there's nothing wrong with Gavin Lux. He's
not hurt my understanding, he's just showed up late to
camp and just wasn't ready to play. I think he
started to play second Bay. Uh, you know, didn't look

(40:02):
great out there, and so they're gonna go with Chris
Taylor and kept her Nadez were more than capable of
playing that position. Same thing I really believe with us
in May, like great talent, but I think you might
be underselling how good Ross Stripling and Joli Coolie Ryots are. Yeah,
that's possible. Ross Stripling, over the last two seasons with

(40:24):
the Dodgers, by the way, where he served as a
starting pitcher, has had a n r A under three
and three and a half with k rates of Like um,
Ross Stripling is a legitimate good picture. That's the way
he's performed for the Dodgers. So, um, they just in
my opinion, don't need us in May from game you
know from day one? Yeah. Uh So in the NL East,

(40:48):
Marcus Stroman placed on the d L with a calf
strain or calf tre depending on how uh you know,
how semantic you you want to get there. I would
imagine that it's gonna be hard for him to come back,
you know, have meaningful innings for the New York Mets,
which was a team when we were doing our division
previous Pacheco that we actually we were maybe a little

(41:08):
bit higher on them. Thought it was possible that they
could end up beating out the Washington Nationals inside of
this division, maybe earning a wild card spot. It's gonna
be a lot more difficult now that they are giving uh,
you know, every fourth start instead of going to Marcus
Stroman's going to go to Michael Waka probably who is
you know, just not a super quality major League Baseball
starting pitcher. How my, how the Mighty have fallen? The

(41:30):
New York Mets used to go like five deep with
like top you know, top ten pitching prospects, like guys
just who were amazing, and uh, you know, now it's
Rick Porcello and Michael Waka. No, this is uh, this
is not great for for the Mets at all. Um,
if you really believe David's that Stroman, it's just not

(41:50):
going to be able to you know, gut it out
there once he's healthy. Uh, Mets are kind of in trouble,
you know every third, fourth day if you can heard
me if I'm wrong, but I think Zach Wheeler is
no longer a member of this team. I think he
wants to the Phillies organization now. Um, you know, they
can they cannot have these sort of injuries. And for
every team, Davis, there's a couple of pictures that you

(42:13):
look at you're like, man, we we really can't have
this guy her. If he's heard, we're gonna be in trouble.
It's not that Stroman misses a lot about but he's
way more than capable of a starting picture. And he's
just way better than the other options. Like they're just
they're just they're just a lot of other bad pictures.
Who are going to see innings for the New York
Mets this year as a result of Stroman not being

(42:34):
available for at least like the first half of the season.
That and as a result that ends up, in my opinion,
being meaningful. Whether they could turn that into a bullpen
game might actually be better than just like rolling Michael
walk out there every fourth, fifth day. They might have
to get creative in order to get out of that hole,
because that is very meaningful in my opinion. Yeah, and

(42:56):
some other some other news that we have here. This
one is is very interesting for season long fantasy baseball.
Uh So, Carlos Martinez was expected to be one of
the guys who handled some closing duties for the uh St.
Louis Cardinals, but they're they're manager this last week said
that uh kh kim is going to end up being
the team's primary option at closer, which is interesting because

(43:19):
he doesn't really have much closing experience in his career
and so like like that's basically just sort of strange.
And also Giovanni Guy I Ghost was expected to do
a ton of that closing with Carlos Martinez and our
for our kad oh boy kh Kim is is apparently
coming over from the KBO and it's going to close

(43:39):
games in Major League Baseball this year. I'm not not
sure I buy it, but this is what they say. Yeah,
so I think what you would you end up happening
with um closers? Like this thing is it's like if
any sort of trouble, you know, if they give him
a few opportunities and it just doesn't work out. It's
only sixty games that we have here. We just can't
afford to continue to give you opportunities if you're if

(44:02):
you're performing, you know bad. So I think that's what
that's what ends up happening here. I think you'd have
like a closer by committee type of approach from the
Cardinals this year. I think the most talented guy is
probably um and maybe what he's ready to do that,
I think you will see him as a closer for
the Cardinals. Uh yeah, And I mean I I would
obviously if I was if I was the Cardinals, I

(44:23):
would want Carlos Martinez in the rotation as well. So
I understand, I understand why they're doing that. I didn't
understand why they wanted to move him is into a
relief picture. But you know whatever, we will see a
lot of volatility with closures and relief pictures this year,
as as teams are desperately trying to uh as teams
are desperately trying to win games. But we're gonna go
ahead and head into our final break here on the

our predictions for how the season plays out. But but Checko,

(46:10):
I wanted to end our show here on a little
a little, a little fun little note. What are you
what are you most excited about as we return to baseball?
What is your what is your favorite part of baseball
that you have really missed? Um? Well, as far as
the thing I missed the most is probably as a
Redtox fan, just watching Red Tox baseball. Of course, I've
missed that throughout the early portraits of the spring and

(46:33):
the early summer. So I'm very excited to watch my
Red Tox this year, even though I don't think we're
going to do greater. Were World Series contenders, so going
to watch I think the thing I'm most excited about
this season, Davis is, um, it's the shortest season we've
ever had in baseball. I think, Um, for as many
favorites that we picked, um, there could be a lot

(46:54):
of chaos and all of a sudden, you know, the
favorites aren't the ones that are gonna win the World
Series and when the m D P. So I'm certainly
excited for for the potential chaos that that we could
haven't had. I'm I'm definitely excited for the chaos, right
like if the if the team goes if the team
goes on a ten game winning streak, uh, that is
gonna be That's just gonna shift the win probability massively.

(47:17):
As a Royals fan. Uh, you know, I'm not expecting
anything great from the year. I I all I want
to see is I want to see Mondes see you know,
learn how to take a pitch right. I want to
see Mondes he get his walk right up. I want
to see Wit continue to develop his power with his
speed a little bit. And I want Franchie Cordero to
turn into a guy who's going to be in the
corner outfield for you know, but like the next five years.

(47:39):
Like that, That's all I ask out of my guys
to check on. I just I just want a few
small things to go the right way. Totally get that.
And I think, by the way, along the lines of
you know, what is what am I looking for? Uh?
This season games meaning more? Because at sixty games, I
think everything is just going to matter this year and

(47:59):
we we couldn't really say that about every other year
major League Baseball. Yeah, alright, everyone, So I hope that
you are all getting very excited for baseball to return
