Speaker 1 (00:00):
T s Y and Sports Grade Network present All in
his Hands Hard Hardwood Takeaways. Welcome in. This is Hardwood

(00:24):
Takeaways right here on Sports Grid. Every host today Chris Welsh.
You can find me on Twitter at is it the
Welsh It is the Tuesday edition, Yes, February. We'll breaking
down everything that went down on Monday. All the games
had a pretty good slate of games as we're still
recovering from Kyrie Irving being officially out for the season,
having surgery being done, and we're kind of in a

(00:46):
still a little tenuous time of players getting their rest
here and there no Russell Westbrook as the Rockets got
under action, though there was a good James Harden game.
We'll talk about lots of stuff to break down. Let's
kick it right off with a huge, huge night from
one of the biggest stars in the NBA, having a
double double and dropping forty nine points as the seventy

(01:07):
Sixers beat the Atlanta Hawks one to one twelve. The
Sixers pull off their thirty second win of the year,
and that's writ Joel Embiid in thirty six minutes, picking
up the slack as Ben Simmons has been ruled out
for what looks like the next couple of weeks he's
going to be reevaluated, and it was a It was
an injury at first that some thought might be minor,
but looks like it's going to take a little bit longer,

(01:29):
so dwell Embiad has to step up. Al Horford comes
back into the starting lineup and dwell Embiid dropped forty
nine points in thirty six minutes. He was seventeen of
twenty four and hit fourteen of fifteen free throws. He
had fourteen rebounds in the game, three steals and a block.
Every single starter for the seventy sixers had a block.
As a matter of fact. Al Horford went seven, eight

(01:50):
and five and thirty one minutes back in the starting lineup.
Toby Harris nine for eight teen from the field, hit
four threes twenty five points a couple of sists. Josh
Richardson had thirteen points, and Milton was in the starting
lineup had six assists in seven points in twenty six minutes.
They only played four guys off the bench. Cork Moss
was essentially their only real, true true contributor. He played

(02:11):
thirty one minute, scoring fifteen points with six rebounds, the
team hit twelve three shot over fifty one and a
really really sweet ninety percent from the free throw twenty
seven of thirty, led by Joel Ebid who essentially made
or did make actually a little bit over than half
of their free throws. They beat the Hawks, who had
a couple twenty points scorers. Trey Young twenty eight points,

(02:32):
tenn assists with seven rebounds. He was ten for twenty
two from the field, but two for eleven from the
three point line. John Collins dropped twenty one with nine rebounds,
and DeAndre Honnert played thirty nine minutes. He was six
for fifteen from the field, hit nine free throws, twenty
two points, seven rebounds, but there wasn't much else production
in the starting lineup. Off the bench, Cam Reddish had

(02:54):
ten points and Bruno Fernando had ten points as well
in twenty minutes. But they shot forty one percent from
the field and we're only eight of thirty eight from
the three point line. So the Hawks moved to seventeen
and forty two and the seventy six is now thirty
six and twenty two, with what is still an astonishing
home record twenty seven and two on the year no
Ben Simmons Joel Embiad says, don't worry about it. The

(03:17):
best team in the NBA the Milwaukee Bucks. Though it
took over time, and though it was the Washington Wizards,
they came out on top. They won one thirty seven
to one thirty four in ot letting Washington come back
in the fourth quarter, being out scored forty one to
twenty eight, but Milwaukee obviously getting it done in overtime.
They're now forty nine and eight on the year, as
Wizards fall to twenty and thirty six over On the

(03:39):
Wizard side, they were led by you want to talk
about big nights, Bradley Beale, who played forty one minutes,
was nineteen of thirty three from the field, hit eight threes,
nine free throws, drop fifty five points fifty five points,
didn't do a whole bunch else except turn the ball over.
He had nine turnovers in the game, did have three assists,

(04:01):
but fifty five points for this team. He scored more
points than all of the other starters for Washington combined.
As a Hatchamora had twelve points, is Smith had thirteen,
Mahemi only ten, and Bonga played twenty four minutes put
a big, old fat donut up Napier off the bench.
He did score twenty seven points with seven rebounds, and

(04:21):
Wagner had ten rebounds five assists, but only eight points
off the bench. They hit fifteen threes as a team
shot forty eight percent forty seven of ninety eight, but
Bradley bal fifty five points over on the buck side
g A. He had twenty two points with fourteen rebounds
and a couple assists. Chris Middleton forty points, fifteen of
twenty eight from the field of perfect, eight for eight
from the free throw line, five rebounds, five assists, three steals,

(04:44):
and Eric Bledsoe had a double double twenty three points
with ten rebounds. He was seven for eleven from the field.
Um nothing crazy off the bench, but the team hit
seventeen threes, fifty seven percent from the field, and was
twenty two of twenty seven from the free throw line.
Big win. As you head into the playoffs, you need
big performances from your big players, and they got that
from g A, Chris Middleton, and Eric Bloodsoe. The heat

(05:07):
and the calves. The heat dropped a road game and overtime.
Another overtime game Cleveland won one to one nineteen, Miami
falls to thirty six and twenty one, and uh, probably
you know, as good of it as a team as
they've been in the East, and you know, kind of
a force. There's of course they're still going to be
playing away from Miami is really really their kryptonite, it's

(05:28):
their crutch. They're thirteen and eighteen on the year, thirteen
and eighteen. And I'm gonna look here because I wonder
if any other team has a road record like that
in the East. So let's see of the East teams,
here are the playoff teams that well, okay, I shouldn't
say that I'm making maybe more than I should about it.

(05:49):
The top three teams in the East all have positive
away records. Boston sixteen and twelve, My Milwaukee twenty three
and five, Miami thirteen and eight. The Sixers even worse
nine and twenty on the road, where they're twenty seven
and two at home. The Pacers are even fourteen and fourteen,
the Nets are ten and seventeen, and the Orlando Magic

(06:10):
are ten and eighteen. So maybe here's another way to
look at it. Any team that has thirty wins on
the year do they have a negative record. So now
I can report back to you that only two teams
in all of the NBA who have thirty wins or
more have a negative away record, and it's the Miami

(06:31):
Heat in the seventy sixers. So it's not a great thing.
It's not the end of the world, like I said,
but it's not a is. You don't want to drop
games to the calves like this. Over on Miami side.
They were led by Bama to Bio, who was assisted
short of a triple double twenty two points, thirteen rebounds
with nine assists, also had four blocks and three steals,
almost a five by five. Played forty one minutes going

(06:51):
into overtime, was nine of fifteen from the field. Kendered
done twenty one points with four assists. He was nine
for eighteen from the field. Duncan Robinson scored fifteen. Derrick
Jones Junior your dunk Champ, was ten points, seven rebounds
and thirty seven minutes, and off the bench Grard and
Draget scored twenty two points in thirty four minutes. Jake
Crowder hit four threes off the bench as well. They

(07:11):
were under forty percent from the three point line. And
forty from the field. Over on the calv side for
your winners. Four of the five starters scored in double digits,
but nobody did anything crazy, which is actually really odd,
and none of the starters shot over fifty percent. Garland
fourteen points, six and thirteen. DeAndre Drummond only six rebounds
ago with thirteen points. Kevin Love led the way of

(07:32):
the starters seventeen points with fourteen rebounds, but was four
for thirteen from the field. Off the bench, Kevin Border Jr.
Went off thirty points with eight rebounds. He was nine
of eighteen from the field and hit four threes. Justin
Thompson Fifteen and nine. Larry Ans Jr. Sixteen points, eighteen
or eight rebounds, not eighteen in thirty two minutes. The

(07:52):
team from the field, but had twenty five of thirty
four free throw attempts, many more than Miami, and Miami
drops it. Um. It's not a crucial loss, but it's
not a pretty one. It's not a pretty one at all.
The magic and the nets of magic one on the road,
one fifteen to one thirteen, Brooklyn. It's all kind of
unraveling right now. Is Kyrie goes down and so do

(08:13):
some of these wins. Orlando now twenty five and thirty two.
Brooklyn falls to twenty six and thirty as Orlando outscored
them thirty four to twenty six in the second quarter
and really the whole second half. The Orlando came out
swinging out of the at a half time forty to
thirty three. They outscored Brooklyn, so that would be seventy
four to fifty nine. They were outscored in the second

(08:35):
half over on Brooklyn side. In post Kyrie World Spencer
Dinwiddie and thirty four minutes scored twenty four points with
eight assists. Jared Allen sixteen eleven with a couple of blocks,
who was a perfect eight for eight from the field
as well. Joe Harris had twelve points touring Prince Head
ten and off the bench, Garrett Garrett Temple eighteen points
of five assists in twenty eight minutes. They hit sixteen threes,

(08:56):
but only shot eight total free throw attempts only made
five of them. That makes it a little bit worse
all around the Magic side. Aaron Gordon twenty seven points
with ten rebounds and four assists. Evan Fournier had twenty
one points, he was eight for sixteen from the field.
Nikolabuseovic sixteen points, ten rebounds, five assists in thirty four minutes,
and off the bench, Terrence Terrence Ross twenty one with

(09:18):
eight rebounds, hit four threes. He had four of the
thirteen total threes. And Orlando it's a big win. It's
a big win over Brooklyn as they continue making that
playoff run. I believe Orlando they've got the eight seed
right now in the East, and they are, if this
is updated as I'm looking at this, four and a
half games above Washington, and that's that's pretty um crucial.

(09:38):
I mean, not that anybody is kicking down the door,
but Chicago and Washington there within um there within range.
But Orlando also has an opportunity which I would not
that you're really dying to play any team, but they are.
I think had a game and a half their game
and a half, or yeah, game and a half away
from Brooklyn. Getting out of that eighth seed moved you

(09:58):
from playing Milwaukee to playing Toronto. Like I said, it
isn't the best thing in the world, but I mean
it's a it's an improvement. That's what I would be
trying to do. I'd be vuying if I was in
the East for that um for that seventh seed. Bogwin's Rockets.
They beat the Knicks one, twenty three to one, twelve
and now thirty seven and twenty twenty and eight on
the road. They did it without Russell Westbrook. The Knicks
that was their fortieth loss of the year. They were

(10:21):
led by R. J. Barrett. He had twenty one points
with a couple threes. Julius Randall seventeen points, twelve rebounds.
He was five for fourteen from the field, though Bobby
Portis Jr. Had twelve points off the bench and Mitchell
Robinson ten points, eight rebounds, five blocks. Over on Houston side,
James Harden thirty seven points of nine assists, six rebounds,

(10:42):
hit four threes and was fourteen of twenty five from
the field. Eric Gordon he was only one for seven
from the three point line, but perfect from the free
throw line seven to seven. He had sixteen points. Bob
Covington's eleven points, seven rebounds with four blocks. He also
had three threes. We're really great percentages. Um Ben McLamore
in Austin Rivers both had to combine six threes, scoring

(11:03):
seventeen and fourteen, respectively, but they were thirty three from
the three point line. They shot forty eight. They shot
more three point attempts then they made field goals. Forty
three completed field goals and forty eight missed or forty
eight attempted. I'm sorry they attempted more threes than field goals.
They made forty eight attempted three's only made sixteen of them.
P J. Tucker also only in twenty five minutes, only

(11:25):
scored two points of five rebounds and one for three
from the field, oh for two from the three point line.
But Houston maintains as they are now fourth in the
West and they are a half game behind the Clippers,
two games behind the Nuggets, as the Lakers are sitting
pretty at the top. The timber Wolves and the Mavericks,
it was a high scoring one, but the Mavericks won
one thirty nine to one twenty three. They were only

(11:48):
outscored in one quarter thirty one to twenty nine. The
Mavericks were to the Wolves that was in the third quarter,
otherwise outscoring them and scoring eighty one first half points.
The Mavericks did on the Timberwolves side, D'Angelo Russell twenty
nine points with five assists. He was ten for twenty
from the field. Malik Beasley had twenty one points and
a bunch of contributors off the bench. James Johnson had

(12:09):
nineteen Martin had eleven. Culver thirteen points with six assists
and twenty two minutes. They hit fifteen threes in this
one and from the field. Over on the Maverick side,
they were led by Tim Hardaway Jr. He had twenty
three points. Look at Don Chich twenty nine and seven.
Porzingis had fifteen with nine rebounds, and Seth Curry was
in the starting lineup nineteen points with two assists, hit

(12:31):
five threes and only twenty five minutes. I thought it
had twenty six twenty five minutes. Off the bench, jij
Brea scored twelve with eight assists, and Alan Wright sixteen
points with four rebounds and twenty two minutes. They were
fifty one of a hundred and one from the field tonight.
That is fifty percent a hundred and one shots. They
put up Mavericks thirty five and twenty three the Phoenix Suns.

(12:53):
They beat the Utah Jazz uncharacteristically one thirty one to
one eleven in Utah. The Utah falls to twenty and
eight at home, now thirty six and twenty one Phoenix
Suns when their twenty fourth win of the year. Over
on Utah side, they were led by Donovan Mitchell, who
had thirty eight points. He hit six threes and was
eleven for nineteen, but he just didn't have a lot

(13:14):
of help. Mike Conley only had eight points. Rudy Gobert,
I mean to speaking saying the same thing again, uncharacteristically
only at thirteen points, at eight rebounds, one block, and
put up five attempted shots. Bogdanovich had sixteen points, was
four for ten from the field, and Jordan Clarkson he
was five for eleven and twenty five minutes for fourteen points.
Off the bench. Over on Phoenix's side, Devin Booker twenty

(13:36):
four points with tennisis. He was eight for eighteen from
the field, Ricky Rubio twenty two points with eleven assists,
six rebounds and seven steels. That's one of the higher
Steel markers I've seen this year. Dendre eight and had
sixteen points, and Kelly Bray eighteen points in the starting lineup.
Off the bench, Dario Sarich fourteen points, hit a couple threes,
they were twelve of twenty from the three point line.

(13:57):
So when they made them, they made him out. And
you talk now, you tak falls to fifth. They are
a game behind, uh their Houston Rockets in the West now,
and they got the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Mavericks
within a game to a game and a half of
both of them. So you talking now, Utah is not
gonna fall out of the playoffs spot. They're like six
and a half games above Memphis right now, who has

(14:19):
the eight seed, and they're fifteen and a half games
behind the Lakers. But Utah has the potential to fall
down to that number seven spot if things get you know,
things get a little too squarely. There's one final game
going on. It's kind of still happening. Speaking of Memphis,
Memphis is playing. It's just about in the fourth quarters.
I'm talking to you about this, But the Clippers have
a twenty plus lead right now. Is they mean they

(14:41):
kind of ended it in the first quarter. The Clippers
outscored Memphis forty to fourteen in the first quarter, and
Memphis has their first lead in any quarter through the third.
But it's sixty four as I'm seeing this just about
at the end of the third John Morant sixteen points
with almost nothing else. He is literally leading the way
of the starters. John Jackson off the bench has fourteen

(15:01):
points in twenty two minutes. But it is a waste land.
John Morant through three quarters has scored more more points
than his entire starting lineup that is out there with them.
Um Also over on the Clippers side, Kawhi Leonard has
dropped twenty five points going into the fourth quarter. He
has eight rebounds, zoom Bach has ten rebounds in the
starting lineup. Morris he's out there thirteen points getting run

(15:23):
in the starting lineup five for eleven, and Harold eighteen
points off the bench. So the Clippers have a pretty
handed lead now as it's ninety points going just about
the end of the third quarter. So the Clippers they
would move to thirty eight nineteen on the year, Memphis
would fall to under five hundred. They would be twenty
eight and twenty nine with a losing record on the road.
As the Clippers look like they've kind of got this one, uh,

(15:45):
they got this one handled now coming up today later today,
it's pretty full slate that Bogman is gonna be breaking
down for you tomorrow. You've got Hornets at the Pacers,
Bucks at the Raptors should be a phenomenal game. That
is the one in two seeds in the East that
are battling it out. That one's gonna go down over
on T and T and I believe that's seven thirty Eastern.
You can expect that one Thunder and Bulls, Pistons, Nuggets,

(16:07):
Celtics and Trailblazers, Pelicans and Lakers, and then the Pelicans
Lakers is a T and T game. And then you've
also got the Kings and the Warriors. So a big
old full slate of games you need to be monitoring,
watching the teams with their injuries. You know Ben Simmons
being out, a couple other teams struggling. So we gotta
keep on it. I gotta keep on the big dogs.
