Speaker 1 (00:03):
F A, T. S Y and Sports Grade Network present
all in his hands by the hard Hardwood Takeaways. It's
what's up and welcome in. It is Hardwood Takeaways right

(00:25):
here on the Sports Gride. I'm your host today, Chris Welsh.
You can find me on Twitter at is That the Welsh.
You can find the co host the other host here,
Scott Bogman on Twitter at Bogman Sports. Every day of
every week, Bogman and I taken you through all the
action that went down on the day before in the
NBA Wednesday. That's what we're gonna be breaking down here,
little look into what's coming down here on Thursday. A

(00:47):
lot of other little notes we're in this time of year,
or injuries are playing such a bigger role in a
bigger toll into things like you think. For example, in Boston,
Danny Ainge that he's confident that Kimba Walker's left me
is fine, inspects in x X him to return at
some point in the near future. The team is so
far into the East they're not going to press this
guy whatsoever. On the inverse, you get a situation like

(01:09):
Clint Capella, who has traded to the Hawks and at
this point they're pushing nothing. Lloyd Pierce over at the
Atlanta Journal Constitution is speculating that we might not see
him until mid March. It's a rough time. It's a
rough time. Ben Simmons still getting treatment to try to return.
He's got inflammation and with an impinged nerve that does
not sound good whatsoever. So lots of injuries, but luckily

(01:31):
we've also got lots of basketball that's going down. So
let's break down pretty big slate of games here. Will
jump into it, starting with the Knicks and the Hornets.
The Hornets beat the Knicks one oh seven to one
oh one. That was Charlotte's twentieth win of the year,
Nicks seventeen and forty one on the season. Starting with
the Knicks, Julius Randall eighteen points, nine rebounds with three

(01:52):
assists in twenty five minutes. He was their biggest performer
in the starting lineup. Only other one other guy at
double digit points. It was Taj gibbson ten points and
eighteen men. It's off the bench though, probably the biggest
performance from the Knicks. Mitchell Robinson in thirty minutes had
twelve points, with sixteen rebounds and three blocks. Bobby Portis
had seventeen points and three or fifteen points with a

(02:12):
steel in sixteen minutes. Team was only four or fifteen
from the three point line. Over on the hornet side,
Terry Rogier he led the way a game high twenty
six points. He had four assists with four three pointers.
Davante Graham, he played thirty four minutes, scored twenty one
points with five assists. He had a couple of threes.
They combined for six between each other. They were six
for sixteen from the three point line. Bridges, Bimbo Washington

(02:34):
all scored in the double digits. Off the bench, there
was some decent production. Martin had nine, Herney Gomez had seven.
They were ten of thirty from the three point line
and hit thirty eighty three from the field, which is
forty seven percent. So hard or It's pick up their
twentie win of the season. Now, the Sixers are reeling

(02:56):
from not having Joel Embiat. This is a serious problem
for them and it's kind of show going right now
because they just lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland, Cleveland,
only their seventeenth win of the year. Philly dropped to
nine and twenty one on the road now thirty six
and twenty three. Al Horford was in the starting lineup,
of course, ten points in thirty four minutes. Toby Harris
was only four for thirteen from the field at eleven points.

(03:19):
Josh Richardson four for twelve from the field. Milton was
their biggest guy twenty points, four rebounds, four assists in
thirty seven minutes. Because also no Ben Simmons. This team
was so much built around depth as well. They had,
you know, all these moves, these little side moves. They
have one of the best starting lineups in all of basketball.
They picked up Burkes and Robinson didn't matter. I mean,

(03:40):
but Burke's was nice off the bench. In seventeen minutes,
he scored thirteen points, had a couple of rebounds, a
couple of sists, couple of steals. He was six for
twelve from the field. But Simmons and Embiid is being
felt by this team. They only shot forty from the
field in sixty four percent from the free throw line,
percentages across the board. They just don't have the big
score right now. Toby and Josh Richardson and Al Horford.

(04:03):
It's not enough of the team over On the calv side,
they were led by Colin Sexton, who dropped twenty eight points.
He was nine for sixteen from the field. Tristan Thompson
had a double double fourteen and thirteen, and Kevin Love
thirteen points, nine rebounds with six assists off the bench,
Larry Ann's Jr. Thirteen points fifteen rebounds in thirty one minutes,

(04:24):
and Deladova had twelve points. They were eleven for twenty
four from the three point line and over fifty from
the field. So Cleveland picks up their seventeenth win and
Philly needs to figure out what they're gonna do about
their current state of situations. Al Right, next game up,
we had the Wizards and the Nets, and Washington won
one ten to one sixteen. As Brooklyn has obviously taken

(04:46):
a nose dive of losing Kyrie Irving. Leading the way
was carrous Leavert thirty four points with seven assists and
four steals. He was ten of twenty in thirty four
minutes in the starting lineup. Denwoodie eighteen points of six
rebounds and thirty three minutes he hit a three. I
didn't even mention LeVert had five threes in this game
during Prince had thirteen points with a couple threes, and

(05:06):
then off the bench DeAndre DeAndre Jordan's sixteen points, sixteen
rebounds in thirty minutes. He was six for eight from
the field only from three. So they can't hit threes
right now, and even as far as field goal goes,
they really couldn't hit anything there. Over on Washington side,
Bradley Beal been on fire lately, thirty points, five rebounds,
five assists, also had three steals, He hit four threes,

(05:28):
and he was eleven for twenty four. Bertands off the
bench had fourteen points and Hatchemora seventeen points on a
perfect two for two from the three point line. In
twenty seven minutes. They were thirty eight percent from the
three point line, but they made fifteen of them forty
two percent from the field. Washington looks like they're going
to probably over track Brooklyn, like they're going to pass

(05:49):
them up here as Brooklyn, at least from an identity standpoint,
I don't really know if they know who they are.
Minnesota in Miami, here's another upset. It's a night of
upsets where the Minnesota Timberwolves beat Miami in Miami, It's
only the fourth loss all year in Miami. Minnesota won
one nine to one six. Going over to the starting

(06:10):
lineup for the Heat, Jimmy Butler eighteen points with nine assists,
but was four for ten from the field. They had
two guys in double digit free throw attempts. Butler was
ten for eleven and Bam out of Bio was ten
for fifteen. He had twenty two points, ten rebounds, seven assists.
I mean, you look at those numbers. Not often would
you see Butler and out of Baio's numbers like that,

(06:32):
or how about none, you know Kendrick Nunn twenty four
points of six assists and nine for nineteen from the field.
You're not gonna see losses like that. Olenic was in
the lineup. He was eleven eleven points, eight rebounds in
sixteen minutes. And off the bench, Derrick Jones Junior scored
fourteen and Dragics had sixteen. They were fifty two from
the field, they were forty two from the three point line.

(06:53):
It was at no effort. I don't think at their
own they just defensively weren't stopping Minnesota, who was led
by D'Angel Russell. He was nine for eighteen from the field,
seven of fourteen from the three point line. He scored
twenty seven points. He had six assists, Malik Beasley one points,
five assists, six rebounds, and a couple of steals as well.
Herring Gomez. You know, the I can't get over the

(07:15):
new cast of characters that Minnesota brought in. They've one
percent led the way. It's crazy. Hernand Gomez seventeen points,
five rebounds, two steals. The team is just a complete
overhaul of who they were, especially with Karl Anthony Town's out.
Nas Reid is in the starting lineup. He had nine
points off the bench, James Johnson had eleven, Martin had eleven,
and McLaughlin had thirteen with five assists and three steals.

(07:38):
They hit seventeen threes in this game and shot over
fifty one percent. Minnesota seventeen and forty. The now seventeen
and forty beat the Miami Heat, who are now thirty
six and twenty two. All right, next game up here.
Like I said, it was a full slate of games.
This was the Bogman game, of course, the Houston Rockets.
Rockets beat the Grizzlies one forty to one. They're now

(08:00):
thirty eight and twenty on the year, Grizzlies fall to
twenty eight and thirty where they have um, you know,
Grizzlies have been a surprisingly good team this year. Over
on the Grizzly side, Dylan Brooks led the way twenty
two points. He was a hit four threes, was nine
for twenty six from the field. John Morant twelve points,
nine assists with three rebounds and twenty eight minutes. Valancunis
had a double double sixteen and ten. Kyle Anderson seven

(08:23):
seven and four assists. He was doing a little bit
off the bench. They had tons of action, but it
ended up just being Gorgi Jang who was important ten
points in nineteen minutes. I mean, the game got you
was getting a little bit away from them. Thirty five
to seventeen was the first quarter in favor of Houston.
Houston came out the second quarter thirty eight to thirty,

(08:44):
so they had if I'm doing the quick math, it's eighteen.
I mean they had a twenty plus point lead going
into the third quarters. So they were just playing a
lot of their other you know, there are a lot
of their other bench players. Over on Houston side, Russell
Westbrook thirty three points with nine rebounds, eight assists and
four steals. He was fifteen of twenty four from the field.
Jim's Jim's Harden thirty points, seven rebounds, hit seven threes

(09:06):
in this one nine total field goals, seven of them
were three pointers. UH. Commington only had ten, Tucker had eleven,
and then off the bench Austin Rivers hit four threes.
He had twenty three points, four rebounds, three assists, and
Green eleven points with four rebounds. The team hit twenty
three three pointers. Even more amazing fifty shots. They were

(09:27):
twenty three of fifty. Team is absurd with their three
point shots and Houston comes out with their thirty eight
win of the season. The Spurs in the Mavericks a
battle of Dallas, and the Mavericks came out on top
one oh nine to one oh three. UH. The Spurs
now twenty four and thirty three on the year, where
the Mavericks are thirty six and twenty three with the
twenty and nine road record, which is pretty solid. UH.

(09:49):
Tomarto Rosen led the way for the Spurs twenty seven points,
eight rebounds, nine assists. He was nine of fifteen from
the field. Walker twelve points, three rebounds in twenty seven minutes,
and off the bench, Bellinelli had four teen. They had
eleven threes. There just wasn't a lot of production. I
want to say de Rosen had more. Yeah, Dorozen had
more points than Forbes, Murray and Lyles combined in the

(10:10):
starting lineup. So it's a bad look as far as
scores and overall production. Over on the Maverick side, Lukada
she had a triple double twenty six points, ten rebounds,
fourteen assists. He was ten of twenty five from the field,
three of eleven from three. Every single starter had at
least two threes from the Mavericks and this one. Porzingis
twenty eight points, twelve rebounds, with three blocks, four of

(10:33):
eight from the three point line, and was eight of
fourteen total from the field. Curry he had two threes
and there but only seven points. In Hardaway Jr. Seventeen
points with three threes. The team hit seventeen threes as
a whole thirty seven percent field goal struggled a little bit,
but it was enough to get it done. One oh
nine to one oh three. Clippers came here to where

(10:53):
I am and traveled into Phoenix and they beat the
Phoenix Suns one O two to ninety two. That is
thirty nine and nineteen. Now the Clippers are in the
year where the Sons fall to twenty four and thirty five.
Only eleven and nineteen at home this season for the
Phoenix Suns. Over on their front, DeAndre Eighton had a
big night twenty five points, seventeen rebounds with three blocks.
He was eleven of twenty two from the field. Booker

(11:16):
had a double double fourteen points with tennisis. He hit
one of eight from three point line. It was five
for nineteen from the field. Though Ricky Rubio also had
had three double doubles in the starting lineup. Ricky Rubyo
eighteen points with Tennessis had a couple of steals as well,
was five of eleven and you also had bridges score
ten Sorry had five off the bench. Camp Johnson he

(11:36):
had eleven points, hit three threes, but they only hit
nine of thirty four threes, kept him down under from
the field as well. Over on the Clippers side, Kawhi
Leonard twenty four points, fourteen rebounds. He was seven of
seven teen from the field. Morris eighteen points with five rebounds,
he was six of fourteen. Beverly and George Board both
scored eleven points respectively under thirty minutes played, and Reggie

(11:59):
Jackson off the bed and had twelve points. They hit
fourteen threes and they're just going to kill people with
both of the units. I just keep looking at this
team and I think, so they can come off the
second unit with Lou Williams, Reggie Jackson and montrez A Harrald.
That's not fair because the starting lineup they're putting out,
you know, Leonard, George Beverley, They're going to be ridiculous

(12:21):
team in the West, and they have thirty nine wins
to show for it. So one or two ninety two
as they beat the Phoenix Suns and then your final game.
As I was telling you about Kimba Walker and the
hope that he comes back soon, Boston isn't exactly you know,
they're not chomping at the bit that they need to
get him back because they continue to absolutely dominate in
the East forty one and seventeen. Now after they beat

(12:42):
the Jazz one fourteen to one oh three, they're eighteen
and twelve on the road. That is where most of
the damage ends. Up happening to them, but they took
a really important one from the Utah Jazz over. On
the Jazz side, they were led by Donovan Mitchell's thirty
seven points. He was fifteen of thirty two from the field,
thirty two shots, but two of ten from the three
point line, thirty seven, five rebounds, five assists. Mike Conley

(13:05):
had fifteen points. He also hit five threes in this one.
All of his field goals were three pointers. He had
four rebounds, three assists. Rudy Gobert nine points and nine rebounds.
He was a perfect four for four from the field,
but just not that much involved and the team was
forty four percent from the field, only hit twelve threes.
Just wasn't enough. As Boston came in with effiiciing seats.

(13:26):
They had thirty three points from Jason Tatum, eleven rebounds,
three assists, thirteens t one and he also hit three threes.
Marcus Smart seventeen points of nine assists he hit three threes,
and Jalen Brown twenties points with three threes. That's right,
those three guys combined for nine of eleven of their
three pointers. Gordon Hayward, he was in the starting line
of twelve points, five rebounds played thirty six minutes only

(13:48):
four to twelve. But the rest of the team picked
up the slack and was much more efficient and that
got the way for Boston. Like I said, fifty three
percent from the field, forty two percent from three they
were just overall of fish and see is what killed
at least kill Utah and got them going. So that,
my friends, was everything that went down on Wednesday. Now
coming up on Thursday, you don't have a bunch of games.

(14:10):
You've got the Nicks and the Sixers, which it's gonna
be really important for the Sixers to come back, like
come back from that mess that was that Cleveland game.
That can't keep having that. You have the Trailblazers and
the Pacers, which would be a great game. That's gonna
be on TNT, Kings and Thunder and then Lakers and Warriors.
That one's going to be the night game on t
n T. So four games slate for Bogman to break
