listening to you guys. I'm catching up on the news
a lot of things. Actually, I would never have the
downtime for myself. I'm a mom of a special needs child.
I have a smaller daughter as well, so there is
no way I could have had this much time for myself. Like,
that's that's not interesting.

So it's a it's a blessing and it's wellness for you.

It sounds like, yeah, that's a positive way to look
at traffic.

Well, it is what you make out of It looks
like our lives, everything we do it's what you make
out of it. I decided I committed to this, and
I decided this is what I'm going to make out
of it. Otherwise there's no way I could have coped
with this.

that's such a great way to think of it, because
traffic and glng commutes can make people so grumpy, and
you're just choosing not to have that attitude.

Three hours when it's rainy and it's Yeah, sometimes it's
three hours just to get back, and I'm commuting because
I'm taking my son who special needs to this cool
to this specific school that he goes to for for
this many years, and sometimes when it's a latey day
and then wonders like some traffic and stuff like that,

it takes three hours. That's what I noticed that he's
getting tired of this. But you know, you gotta do
what you got to. You got to make the best
out of what you're gonna do.

my full time job and I'd never been on unemployment
my whole life, you know, and they laid me off

smoking meat. And I remember telling my wife, Hey, you know,
I'm gonna I think I'm going to try selling barbecue online,
you know, a little selling family dinners and just to
make a little cash. And so my unemployment checks start
rolling in and we just posted it on social media

and the local forums and it just blew up.

And this is Texas style barbecue, right, Yeah.

We call it Texas style with a California vibe. So
you know, our rub, our house rub is a little
bit more like Santa Maria style. But and so we
just kind of like combined some of our favorite flavors.

TikTok on live at all times. So when you walk
into the store, there's all these signs that say smile,

And is it helping with sales? What's happening.

So they did this because they want people to feel
more comfortable before coming into the shop. But they also
started doing this because they said that they were getting
a lot of interactions with rude customers, and so they

Going to be live. Like, I'm for that because I
don't I'm not a person that I don't tolerate the rudeness.

A spotlight here on a standout teacher from Santa Clarita.
His name is Casey Cooney. Casey Cooney's a high school
honors English and senior myth and folklore teacher at Valencia
High School. Represented California at the White House last week
for the first Teachers of the Year state dinner. So

What was it like to go to the White House
being honored for being our representative in the world of teachers?

It was truly magical, you know it was. It was
just such an incredible experience. I was able to take
my son, which was really cool, and he was the
class of twenty twenty, so he joked, this is the
prom I never got.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Oh yeah, I get that. Well, wait, what did they
do when you got to the White House? Did you eat?
Did they what did they serve?
Speaker 8 (39:09):
Oh? Yeah, I mean they brought us all through. We
took pictures with doctor Biden, doctor Joe Biden, the first lady.
We hung out in this reception area that was really
cool with all these senators and House of Representatives members
and Cabinet members. And then eventually they brought us up
to the dining room and then we're at our tables
and the seat next to me was open, and then

suddenly they announced the second Gentleman, Doug M. Hoff, And
the second gentleman walked in and he came right over
and sat down next to me, which was crazy, and
we were talking all throughout dinner.

What an honor to be recognized for your great work
as a teacher and your dedication to the classroom. They're
also significant because I was reading that you overcame childhood cancer. Yes.
Speaker 8 (39:53):
Yeah, I had a bone cancer in eighth grade, eighth grade,
ninth grade, and it definitely informed my decision to become
a teacher because of my teachers that were so pivotal
in that time of my life. And really I credit
with you know, saving my life and then teaching me
what I was capable of in the aftermath.

That's amazing, and I mean, I'm glad you're feeling so
good and also giving back in the way that you
felt that impact happened to you. What about senior myth
and folklore? I don't even know where to stay.

It's literally my passion, it's mythology, it's world mythology. We
just read Gilgamesh. We did an amazing myth from Japan

a hero's journey, and that they're their own hero on
their journey, and that the trials and the tribulations of

life are all part of it. And we learned from
the tough times and embrace them, and then cherish the
glory glorious times and embrace those as well.

I think I see it that way, and you know,
I tell them I want you to You could see
your life as a boring history of events, but I
want you to see your life as a poem, where
events might have more significance or meaning than just something

three hours just to get back, and I'm commuting because

it takes three hours. That's what I noticed that he's
getting tired of this. But you know, you gotta do

A spotlight here on a standout teacher from Santa Clarita.
His name is Casey Cooney. Casey Cooney's a high school
honors English and senior myth and folklore teacher at Valencia
High School. Represented California at the White House last week
for the first Teachers of the Year state dinner. So

congratulations to you, Casey Cooney. Congratulations.
Speaker 8 (38:41):
Let me thank you guys.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
What was it like to go to the White House
being honored for being our representative in the world of teachers?
Speaker 8 (38:50):
It was truly magical, you know it was. It was
just such an incredible experience. I was able to take
my son, which was really cool, and he was the
class of twenty twenty, so he joked, this is the
prom I never got.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Oh yeah, I get that. Well, wait, what did they
do when you got to the White House? Did you eat?
Did they what did they serve?
Speaker 8 (39:09):
Oh? Yeah, I mean they brought us all through. We
took pictures with doctor Biden, doctor Joe Biden, the first lady.
We hung out in this reception area that was really
cool with all these senators and House of Representatives members
and Cabinet members. And then eventually they brought us up
to the dining room and then we're at our tables
and the seat next to me was open, and then
(39:29):
suddenly they announced the second Gentleman, Doug M. Hoff, And
the second gentleman walked in and he came right over
and sat down next to me, which was crazy, and
we were talking all throughout dinner.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
What an honor to be recognized for your great work
as a teacher and your dedication to the classroom. They're
also significant because I was reading that you overcame childhood cancer. Yes.
Speaker 8 (39:53):
Yeah, I had a bone cancer in eighth grade, eighth grade,
ninth grade, and it definitely informed my decision to become
a teacher because of my teachers that were so pivotal
in that time of my life. And really I credit
with you know, saving my life and then teaching me
what I was capable of in the aftermath.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
That's amazing, and I mean, I'm glad you're feeling so
good and also giving back in the way that you
felt that impact happened to you. What about senior myth
and folklore? I don't even know where to stay.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
Does that mean?
Speaker 2 (40:23):
What does that mean?
Speaker 8 (40:26):
It's literally my passion, it's mythology, it's world mythology. We
just read Gilgamesh. We did an amazing myth from Japan
about Amasarasu, the sun goddess. And but really I'm teaching seniors,
you know, to hopefully view their lives as a as
a hero's journey, and that they're their own hero on
their journey, and that the trials and the tribulations of
(40:48):
life are all part of it. And we learned from
the tough times and embrace them, and then cherish the
glory glorious times and embrace those as well.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
My gosh, we are our own heroes.
Speaker 8 (41:02):
I think I see it that way, and you know,
I tell them I want you to You could see
your life as a boring history of events, but I
want you to see your life as a poem, where
events might have more significance or meaning than just something
listed on a timeline.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Wow, it's very profound. It actually resonates. This is Casey
Cooney Santa Clarita, who was just at the White House
being honored for the Teachers of the Year state dinner. Congratulations,
thank you for representing our state here in California and
continued success. We really appreciate what you're doing and the
other teachers that are being honored and all the teachers

that are being celebrated this week and every week.

Yeah. So that's the big thing is that I'm just
representing the teachers of California. And there are so many
amazing teachers in the state, and I think they're doing
such great work. I believe that the democracy depends on
a robust public education system, and I think teachers are
going in every day and tireless doing the work and

you know, trying to make a difference. And so I'm
just honored to represent them.

But that's not the only Bad Blood returning to the spotlight.
So Warner Brothers, Discovery UK and Ireland will dissect Taylor's
public clash with Scooter Braun over the ownership of her
music on the new season of Versus, the docu series,
and it's airing on Discovery Plus. So basically, it's Taylor
Swift versus Scooter Braun Bad Blood. It's going to be
a two hour long episode and it's going to follow

both sides of the argument. So one hour is going
to be Taylor's side and the other hour is going
to be Scooter side, and it's going to be legal experts, journalists,
and individuals close to Taylor and Scooter that will present
their input in the series. There's no date attached to
this yet, so I will definitely keep my eye on
it and keep you posted. But it's something that I'm
definitely going to watch because I've obviously been so invested

in this Taylor Scooter saga. But it's weird because I
feel like because of this feud that they had, we've
been blessed as fans, as Swifties, because who knows if
we ever would have gotten these Vault tracks had she
not had this feud with Scooter Braun.

Do you know? I was reading a story and watching
the news about her now in Europe, right, so she
launched her tour arastour there. She's in Paris, and it's
like twenty percent of the ticket sales for the European
venues are US citizens, people who live here who couldn't
get tickets. They have gone over there, as we talked about.

Because they're much cheaper there.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
The tickets are traveling go. But we talked about that
whole concept of making it a vacation, a contrition, gig trip.

like I'm guilt tripping.

International soccer stars are trying to find true love. But
the catch is they basically go undercover. So these women
have no idea that they are these huge international soccer superstars.
They don't find out until the end, so they go undercover.
