Speaker 1 (00:00):
Can I get some Olympic theme music here? It's La
twenty eight. We have on the phone with us right now,
Los Angeles mayor and now global Superstar flag carrier and
holder Tom Cruise's new best friend, La Mayor, Karen Bass.
That's right, you made us so proud.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Well, thank you so much. I am glad I made
you proud. It was a wonderful moment. I just am
so excited about what's to come.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Well, tell us, just like take us inside your body
at that moment, inside your bloodstream and your head. What
did it really feel like emotionally and humanly to be
standing there representing our country and now the torch being passed?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Well, I tell you it was overwhelming. You know. I
just wanted to make sure that I did our city
and our country proud. When I walked up on that stage,
you know, there was team that was right in front
of me. You couldn't see them because they were down
below the stage. And I looked at all of those
young people that I just feel so proud of their

(01:10):
discipline and their courage and their success. I mean, we
let the medals, of course we did. And knowing that,
you know, in four years the whole world's attention will
be on us. By the way, meeting Simone Bios was
a highlight because I think she is phenomenal, and so

(01:31):
that was also something that was so special to me.
The world's greatest gymnasts right there in front of.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Me, and an incredible human being as well. I've had
a chance to meet her a couple of times. Just wonderful.
And to see the image of the two of you
and the Mayor of Paris and then Tom Cruise coming in.
You know what we were saying coming off of the beauty.
I mean, Paris is Paris. It's got so much history
and so much beautiful architecture, and it's Paris, and it

(01:59):
was beautiful. It's romantic, and you fantasize about being in Paris.
But you know what we're saying about La, we have swag, like.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
There's a there's a swag to La at least is cool.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
That is absolutely right, and just think, I mean, we're
the creative center center of the world, and so I
know that we are just going to have a phenomenal games.
You know, one thing that I really enjoyed about Parents,
and I hope to see here too, is the way
that the whole city was involved, whether they actually went
to games or not, everybody was involved. It was a

(02:34):
very joyful occasion and I definitely want to see us
emulate that as well.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
So should we start planting flowers in our gardens and
yards now so that when people are flying in they'll
see pretty colors. I love that.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I think that's wonderful. And just think about it. You know,
all of those countries that will be here. We are
a city with over two hundred languages spoken, and for
every country that will be coming here for the Olympics,
they're Angelino's from those countries, and so I want to
make sure that the guests coming in know all of

(03:10):
our city, all of the richness and the diversity that
La is. We're an international city.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
It's so true, Mayor Karen Bass with us. Now, is
the four years going to go fast for you?

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Well, you know what, it's going to go really fast,
because just think about it, Ryan. In twenty twenty six,
we have the All Star Game, we have the US
Open for Women in golf, we have the World Cup.
Eight games will be played here. But then there's all
the other you know, watch parties that take place over

(03:41):
forty days, in twenty twenty seven, we have the Super Bowl,
then we get to twenty twenty eight, so I view
all of those other eventss rehearsal.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, it is going to go quick. Yeah. So if
you're think of selling your house today.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Wait, exactly, it'll be worth much more.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Mayor vast now after you've exhausted all the possible potential
terms as mayor of Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Do you think Snoop should run and will he win?

Speaker 2 (04:13):
I think Snoop us to do what he did at
the Olympics. He was a wonderful ambassador for all of us,
represented us well, and I think he was a part
of the joy in terms of people were just having
a good time. And I think that that's a great role.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Well, we're you have to know, I know you're there,
or we're there. We're so excited here. The day after
the we saw you know you on television and Simon
Biles and all. The celebration of the closing ceremony. The
morning after was quintessential La weather. There was no marine layer,
it wasn't too hot, it was like perfect La weather.

(04:51):
And I came in with a little bit of an
endorphin rush because we need we need to feel that again,
don't we exactly?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
We absolutely do, which means we have a lot of
work to do in our city that will add to
that and contribute to it. And then before the plane landed,
was there an earthquake?

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (05:10):
I know, I was going to mention that on the
global stage. But the other thing, real quick before you go.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
I just because we have a great relationship with you
and we want to keep that, we want to be
transparent with you.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
I don't throw anyone under the bush.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
But there is a staff member here who earlier this
morning told me about on their street in the city
of La uh in an effort to deter deter strangers
from parking in front of their house, this staff member's
neighbor went out and painted the curb red on their own.

(05:47):
Oh wow, really well, I'm not going to tell you
who we are aware, but yeah, have you ever seen
that before?

Speaker 2 (05:54):
I have never seen or heard of that, But you
know what I mean, these are these are interesting times.
That's a new one to me.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I have never heard that.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
All right, Well, we we definitely told them it's it's
not condoned, so we'll try to break it out.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Painty Gray, all right.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Mayor bas thank you again for representing our city so beautifully,
and we can't wait.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Lots of good stuff to come in La.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
I appreciate that, and it's always great to talk to you. Ryan.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Talk soon, Tybouye.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Kind of love her energy, yeah, kind of love her energy.
She's cool. She's cool, right, but she's cool.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Now. We got a lot of work to do, got
a lot of things to fix, got a lot a
lot of stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
We'll get there. You know, you don't think of all
the things we do. Some major things on.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
This Yeah, the World Cup alone, and then I totally
forgot the Super Bowls back on twenty twenty seven. All right, Next,
this is gonna tell us Ruby. I didn't want to
say it was you and your neighbor, so I did
so much. Yeah, neighbor sittingna tell us what's new this morning.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
