Having lots of friends can cost ya! Sisanie shared on-air people are suffering from "friendflation."

Do you? Listen back for all the details here

Life is getting more expensive every day. Between groceries, and gas prices and dating, basics are starting to seem like a luxury and now even maintaining a friendship is getting expensive! Birthdays, brunches, dinners, drinks, movies and that doesn’t even factor in things like trips together or a wedding!

A recent survey found that Gen Z spends an average of $433 a month on friendships alone. One in 10 said they’ve gone so far as to end a friendship because it was too expensive

People are turning to low-cost hangouts like the beach (but find one with free parking), hiking, game nights, staying in and watching Netflix, and so on.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Have you heard of friend inflation? It's a new concept
friend in a nation. So the way I understand it
is maintaining a friendship is also getting pricey.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Oh my gosh, there's an inflation on your friendships.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Now, Yes, because if you want to celebrate your friend's birthdays,
right yankes, cakes are up, brunching on Sunday. Yeah, I
don't ever do that. But dinners, drinks, movies, it's all up,
and you want to do something for your friend, but
it is not the same level of cost as it was. Yeah,
and trips expensive weddings, Oh, my gosh, weddings. Yes, so

(00:42):
I was reading here. The average price of a good
friend per month is four hundred and thirty three dollars
a month on one friendship. On one friendship, yeah, I
believe it. You spend four one hundred and thirty three
dollars a month basically generally on a friendship.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, why can't we just send them an emoji?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Well, you're going to hang out and then you can say, oh,
let's go get dinner, and then you have to you know,
split the bill.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
You get drinks, it doubles the boom. Bring a flask
baker cake. So one in ten people said they've gone
as far as to end day friendship because of the expense. Now,
that to me was what was striking. Yeah, that's dark.
They're editing friends because of the cost. It's called friendflation.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
