and Kim, he's all moved inand ready to go. Sweeth thought,
let's have Johnny on again and dosome more three headed sports talk radio before
you and I get reconvened on Roadrunners. Happy are with with Brett farre But
(00:44):
fun podcasts coming up here, Kim, We've got part two of our conversation
with Colin Tyson. Yeah you youwere in Wichita with Dusty over the weekend
and holy Josh Stone so impressive.Loved watching that game so much fun.
So we've got a five one Katie'spreseason victory to recap after Colin, Johnny's
moved to Tucson and uh, guesswhat Kim, Johnny's big food guy.
(01:08):
So we've got We've got more localfood talks yet too, with with Jonathan
Jay for here on the podcast, wrapping up, wrapping up the off season,
because next next week we'll be liveat FanFest and this is Part number
two with Colin Tyson Kim. Nextweek we will have part number three with
Colin Tyson because he is going tojoin Hunter Drew and myself at FanFest with
(01:34):
me and Johnny Kim. You're welcometo stop by, we can, we
can pipe you in as well. But you and I caught up with Colin
Tyson a couple weeks ago before heuh got got back here to the desert.
Was Colin in that preseason game onon Saturday? Or was he in
Saint Louis? He was in St. Louis, Okay, okay, I
thought he was going to be buthe was in St. Louis. He
(01:56):
was in Saint Louis. So youknow, we're we're we're straight holidays around
here. And we continued our conversationwith Colin Tyson talking about Halloween right here
on this week's Insider Podcast, Parttwo with Colin Tyson. Do you guys
have a Halloween costume thing you doevery year. It seems like in hockey
(02:17):
a lot of time is spent onthese costumes. Yeah, we had a
Halloween party as a team last year, Alex I actually just brought that up
to me and saying our costumes werevery good last year and so mad need
to step it up. But ohwow, last last year, I was
solely from Monsters, Inc. Andshe was whatever the little girl's name was
with the pigtails. Oh Boo,yeah boo. She was Boo and I
(02:38):
was Sully. So I had anice blue onesie, which is pretty funny.
But we're still thinking about what we'regonna be this year. I like
it. I can't wait. Ican't wait to find out. I can't
wait for the update on the costumesfor this year. That's gonna be awesome.
I love the planning aspect of it. Lots lots got into it.
There's always a couple of good ones, that's for sure. Hey, Colin,
(03:00):
outside of Josh, have you metany other ASU supporters down here in
Tucson. I think I just likewalking down Tucson. I've seen a couple
of ASU shirts on, but otherJosh, No, I mean, no
one I've talked to opens up aboutas U and you have a territory.
Getting back to where you're from inMichigan, I'm curious. Did you have
(03:22):
a favorite team growing up or afavorite player? Yeah? Huge Red Wings
fan growing up just south of Detroit, went the water Red Wings games growing
up, and I had two favoriteplayers, Utterberg and Dots. You were
my two favorite players growing up.I can't imagine. I can imagine if
you're a Red Wings fan growing upthat those were the two that you would
(03:44):
be loving, because they were absolutelyamazing. Did you ever have a chance
to go to the game a gameat The Joe before Little Caesar's came online?
Yeah? I actually I've only beento one game at Little Caesars because
I've been gone. But I wentto a ton of games of the Joe.
We probably tried to go to atleast five a year. I went
to a couple of playoff games atthe Joe, and that place was electric.
(04:06):
I was kind of sad to seeit go, but yeah, good
obviously to kind of upgrade the rinka little bit. I've heard amazing things
about Little Caesars from people who havebeen to both places and not to make
this a trait Red Wings podcast. But I was talking to somebody recently who
said that Little Caesars was absolutely phenomenaland they were sad that the Joe was
(04:27):
gone and all the heritage that livedthere and that was built in that building,
but that it was a good tradeoff. Yeah. I mean it's
a state of the art building.Obviously with the basketball team too, they
kind of combined there. The Joewas just hockey, but everything's super nice
and I mean, you can't complainabout one thing in that building. Colin.
(04:48):
Looking at the schedule for this year, You've always got a great deal
of support when we go to theMidwest. Any family plans for our trips
to Chicago and Iowa yet, don'theard anything yet, but they'll definitely.
I'll have my army out there forsure. Who always in the army that
gets on the road and comes tosee you and has come to see you
(05:10):
when you were playing at Notre Dameand in juniors. Yeah. So,
I mean a lot of my buddiesfrom and Row will go family, lots
of family, and then my Billotfamily into becomes still really close to them.
They come out once a summer.I try to go out there once
a summer, but they'll definitely beat the Iowa game, most likely the
Chicago game as well. They cameto quite a few of my Notre Dame
(05:33):
games, so it's always cool tohave all those guys out there watching me
play and really feel about to havethem out there. Does it feel a
little I'm just curious. Does itfeel a little bit more stressful at points?
I know that when my family comesout to the Roadrunners games, I'm
just very aware that they're there rightas opposed to them not being in the
(05:56):
stands. It kind of changes thebibe for me personally a little bit.
Is it like for you? Uh? Not so much. I think it's
just because I'm so used to it. I play. It was playing on
Notre Dame. It was only twohours from my house, so all my
family and buddies can come out forquite a few weekends. And college you're
only playing on the weekends, right, So I kind of got used to
(06:16):
that with all like the tickets, you gotta I gotta gather up and hanging
out with them after the second gameor whatsoever. But being out in Arizona,
my my family and friends aren't aren'tcoming at every single game. So
it's a bit quiet over there, but it's always nice to have come out
to those Chicago and Iowa trips.Like you guys said, anything else can
(06:41):
before we get the fun questions. No, just fun questions. I'm just
just just straight to the fun questions, all right. Uh, davorite off
the activity and Tucson Colin golf? How about uh where are you? Where
are you playing? We played quitea bit at the Omni Course in Corey
(07:03):
Mines because those right bowling guys apartments. Yeah, that's a nice that's a
nice uh nice afternoon. That's that'sthe great thing about the morning practice is
right as you you come in early, you get your work done, You're
you're all set and ready to goenjoy the sunshine right on favorite cheat meal.
(07:23):
Who I'd have to say, JerseyMike's. That's a good one,
mis Ub. What's what are yougoing with? I do the original Italian?
That's good. Jersey Mike's is agood spot, Kim, Yeah,
it really is. Now Yeah, now I'm thinking always at lunchtime. Now
I'm thinking about food. Yeah,we always do this at lunchtime and it
(07:43):
just goes goes south in a Hurryroad roommate for you, Colin, and
who were you with in the lockerroom? And Tucson road roommate is Nathan
Smith and then I was by Lastyear I sat by Tyson Empy and Cameron
Big. So we had a couplecouple of trips this year six days or
(08:05):
longer, Vegas a couple of times, Coachella Valley, Calgary. If you
had to go back to any ofthose places as as a vacation spot,
which one? Which one are youpicking? If we gave you three options
for a vacation Vegas, Cochella Valleyor Calgary O for a vacation spot,
I'd probably have to say Coachella.Vegas is just a bit too busy for
(08:28):
a week vacation. But Coachella iskind of more of my style. Can
golf, nice restaurants. Yeah,so I'd have to say Coachella. Talked
about music a little earlier. Ifyou were helping Parker out pick the playlist,
what do you say and you wantto you want to hear what kind
of what kind of stuff like thecountry, the rap, the anything not
(08:54):
country. I'd probably have to saya rap or pop or something like pop
or remixes in there. Do youlisten to any podcasts a decent amount?
I mean, not so much.No. My buddies just started a podcast
called the Bus Pods, so theyalways have hockey guests on there, some
players and stuff, so that's kindof interesting. And then Spit and Chicklets.
(09:16):
So those are the only two I'llreally dabble on. That sounds good.
You said it's called the bus theBuzz Pod, the Buzz the Buzz
Okay, perfect, go in andcheck that out. Yeah, it's awesome.
They have they have probably two playersa week or whatever. They have
a lot of episodes. I thinkover one hundred and awesome. Awesome.
Who are they? Us? ZachSolo plays for the Marley's this will be
(09:41):
a second year. And then theother guys Nico Blatchman. Uh he's a
heavy wait on the coast right now. So awesome, great guys, awesome,
yeam. Fun questions. Okay,I just have to Tysten or Colin?
What is what is the lock screenon your phone? Right now?
(10:01):
Lock screen on my phone is apicture of my dog? Oh okay,
and her name was Nori. Isthat what you say? Okay? Got
it? Okay? This one isa little bit more involved. If you
had a time machine and you couldtravel back to any time period in the
in the history of the planet, where would you go. That's a tough
(10:22):
one. You know, there's alot to think about, like do you
want to you want to like experiencelike ancient Egypt, but also running water
would be nice. Yeah, Idon't I don't even know what to say.
There probably just this yeah, likeyou said, kind of the pyramid
thing, to see how they builtthat, because I watch a Netflix show
(10:45):
and how they built all those andit's still kind of a mystery. Oh
yeah, yeah, absolutely, Iam with you again, running water would
be nice, and you know,a longer life expectancy in the period.
But those are my those were myfun questions, Adrian, all right,
Colin, Uh, did we getyou home? You at home? You
(11:07):
and your driveway just waiting for usto wrap up? Or how close did
we get you? I'm actually justpulling in my neighborhood. So it was
perfect timing, perfect perfect. Iswe let you go? Any any final
questions for us? H? No, I think I'm all set. Okay,
Well, we appreciate it, Colin, Thanks for joining us. Man,
have a great trip. Back toArizona. Well, we'll see us
(11:28):
see it coming up really soon, all right, song's good. Thanks for
having me on guys, Thanks alot, Colin, take care. Yeah,
I'm sure Colin appreciated Kim. Howwe had him on a half hour
commute home and we kept him forthe entire time, right as he was,
right right as he was pulling backinto his neighborhood. Yeah, it
was. He was definitely multitasking, but handled everything wonderfully. I am mad
(11:54):
at myself that I didn't suggest thatmaybe for a Halloween costume they do and
Barbie, which I think would beI mean, he doesn't even need anything,
and then Alex would just need awig, right, like they could
be Kenn and Barbie, so easy. We will see him next week at
fan Fest and we can bring thatup right to him. Yes, let's
(12:15):
do that Holloween costumes for everybody.I think the problem with that though,
is that everybody is going to beKen and Barbie for Halloween this year.
So yeah, you know what,I like to be more original, it's
going to be about who does itbest. I think that's what that's very
true and is. Yeah, Iguess it depends and you know, going
playing into the characters as well.Yeah, right, would probably help you
(12:37):
know, whatever Halloween party or socialevents anyone goes to. Wait, so
did you do the movie, Johnny? I did. I loved it.
Yeah I didn't. I did theI did the double. I don't know
if you guys know about it,but there's this thing called Barbenheimer where you
see both Barbie and Oppenheimer back toback. And I did that with my
(12:58):
friends and I saw Barbree first andthen an hour later went to go see
Oppenheimer. So I was in themovies for what about eight hours or so?
I think that's how long you know, it takes it with the hour
in between. Oppenheimer's like three hourslong. So that was fun. It
was really fun. It was likea social trend that actually, I think
(13:18):
it really helped both movies as well, you know, opening both had the
same opening night, so that wasthe joke of Barbenheimer. But going back
to it, Yeah, I sawBarbie and I loved it. It was
just a fun movie to watch.Yeah, so that's such an intense pivot
to go from Barbie to Oppenheimer.Yeah, that's that's also a joke,
right, And I think I wouldhave done it backwards. I think it
(13:39):
would have seen Oppenheimer first and thenended the day with Barbie because it was
so much. Yeah, that's whatThat's what people were saying. They say,
like, oh, if you seeBarbie and Oppenheimer, that's the boring
way to do the double feature. The real people who see Oppenheimer first and
then Barbie after, And it's like, I don't think I can go from
a movie like Oppenheimer to Barbies. So I'm glad I did it the other
(14:00):
way. But yeah, just twovery opposite movies. They just happened to
come out on the same day, which is why everyone saw both movies on
the same night. It was fun. It was fun, got a whole
group of friends together, you know, stocked up on the popcorn and the
sodas and the slushies and the candy, and just went at it. Maybe
we can talk Adrian into being Oppenheimerfor Halloween. I have the look he
(14:26):
definitely, we need a hat,we need a fedora. Just had get
the suit up. He had differentlooks about the whole movie. I think
he also wore like a general suit, a military outfit. But then all
these scientists were getting mad at himbecause they're saying you're not a soldier or
a scientists. That that was interesting, but I think Adrian should do that.
(14:46):
That's a total Look, where arewe going to be on Halloween?
What is it? I don't donethe schedule fully yet. Tuesday, October
thirty. First, I think it'sa home week. I think we're we're
just here here practicing. Oh well, then there you go. Maybe we'll
maybe we'll get a whole Oppenheimer Barbie. Uh, maybe we're all dressed as
(15:09):
characters from each show or each movie. I don't have Yeah, I don't
have an excuse. Usually my excuseis sorry, we're on the road.
I swear right, swear no moreholidays than any we Yeah, got on
the road for Halloween. And atmy excuse to not dress, it would
be well, I have no plans. I'm not gonna go and buy an
expensive costume if I have no plans. But then if someone asked me to
(15:31):
do something, I'm like, well, now I have to buy a costume,
which I don't even know who Iwant to be yet, so I
have to figure that out, whichI don't really have time, because you
know, Halloween's going to be comingup very quickly before we know it.
Oh, maybe you can be Alan. That would be amazing. I would
love that Alan is one of theone of the Ken dolls Adrian, who
(15:52):
is Alan? Right, I wasconfusing what you're saying at first. I
was like, Alan, that wouldbe kind of funny. That's that's the
what, because we said everyone's goingto be Ken's. Yeah, different different.
Alan is Ken's best friend Adrian, and apparently according to the box that
he came in, they share clothes, so they're the same size. That
was like the big thing. Buthe didn't last very long. That's why
(16:15):
nobody knows who he is. WhatI mean, they made a job about
that movie. Not to take usfar off topic here, but what happened
to Alan in the movie? Yeah? Oh he was fantastic. He was
such a good character. He wassaid he didn't you just said he didn't
last long. Well, No,the actual toy when he was released in
like the seventies, like nobody reallybought him. Oh I see, I
(16:36):
hadn't. I hadn't heard of Alan. No. Yeah, I didn't know
about Allen until the movie and thenI and then there's other Little Barbie offshoots
also that didn't last that are alsoin the movie, and there's just one
of them, and nobody talks tothem because there's just one of them and
they're strange. Did you guys noticedlast week when we were doing the podcast,
(16:59):
I was not at my normal spot, like you guys know what my
living room looks like. You guysknow what you guys know what the kitchen
looks like. You guys know whatthe office looks like. Did you notice
I wasn't? I was in amuch nicer place than I usually am at.
Did you guys notice that I thoughtyou were because I was looking at
the background. It looked like youwere in a country club like locker room.
(17:22):
That looked like No. I wasjust at a friend's house who's a
real adult and has a really nicehouse. Nice I forgot. I got
to a podcast real quick, andI just yeah, could I have your
kitchen table? So did you guysnotice that he appeared in the background?
I didn't notice. I didn't wantto say anything, because you know,
it's just didn't want to go offtopic. But I didn't notice that,
(17:45):
and I was curious who that was. I thought it was your place and
you were having someone over and Ithought someone was just standing on byway you
did your podcasts or a d podcast, but yeah, see and and him
walking in the background just to mereinforced that you were in some sort of
country club locker room because it lookedlike he was going into like a locker
(18:06):
and getting something and then leaving. So and I think afterwards things to asking
about it Adrian podcast with people walkingby, like what's this guy doing?
Right, Kim, You're on theright track because because here's here's how we
bring it back to topic. We'retalking about Colin and Alexa Tyson. And
every time I said Alexa, theirAlexa started going nuts, so he came
(18:32):
back to unplug it because it thething was freaking out. Every time I
was talking about Alexa, Alexa, the Alexa, the vice and they have
three or four of them in theirhome, I thought that I was talking
about her. That makes me feelreally bad for Alexa Tyson because she probably
(18:52):
has the same day to day problemswith having an Alexa, Like if they
even have an Alexa. I wasno. I was thinking, you got
to be able to change the nameof it, right, Like you should
be able to go in and preprogramit to name it, Kim, right,
Kim, John Johnny, can youthen the LIS please, Johnny?
(19:15):
Yeah, I got you what setting? I got? I got different settings.
We're finding out all about your settings, SI too. When when you
for me, when I have Syrian, I say, oh, seriously serious
something, I'm asking a question.Same. Yeah, But Adrian, we
(19:37):
couldn't hear it. I couldn't hearit that I had my headphones. And
while it was annoying him because itwas his home and he was trying to
run his business from the living roomon the floor because I was sitting at
the kitchen table. So that wasthe problem. It wasn't about us,
Kim. He wasn't trying to helpus. I gotcha. Yeah, I
can't understand. That's funny, haveyou guys it's ever seen a bernardoodle?
(20:02):
Colin. I googled the doodle thismorning and I just wanted to grab it
out of the laptop and just starthugging it and kissing it. They're so
soft and silky and just like thebest temperament. Gorgeous dogs. Oh,
it's a it's a type of dog. I don't know what that is.
Dog. Yeah, it's a makesure of Bernie's Mountain dog and a poodle.
So they're not incredibly big, butthey're tricolor. They're black white and
(20:25):
they have like brown markings on themand they're just so that's I Adrian,
I think I told you. Mymy friend has a bernardoodle who looks exactly
like Colin Tyson's dog. And youjust let a lick you in the face
like all the time, Like that'sall I want to do is have the
dog. Looking this dog up rightnow and I want one now. Yeah,
that's it's so cute. There's likedifferent kinds of odd like some have
(20:48):
long hair. Show her that's that'sthat's a good looking dog. Yeah,
super kid dog. So thanks toColin Tyson for joining us for a part
number two and stay tuned, folks, part number three. It's a first
on this podcast, three parts withthe exact same guest, Colin Tyson,
and we'll ask him more about Nori, their dog, and oh are I
(21:11):
well, Kim, you look refreshed. You look like you're ready for a
Monday, and you look like you'reback from a weekend and Twitchita, how
about the coyotes over the weekend? And Twitchita Kim five one win hat trick
for Josh Stone gorgeous. Ivan proZatof gets the winning goal. It looked
(21:32):
amazing. Hunter Drew, Curtis Douglas, Stephen Camper all get assists, Yan
Unique and McCartney, Ryan McGregor,Michael Cassering all played. Did Curtis Douglas
fight too? I didn't see afight, but I wasn't sitting in my
normal spot at that game. Iwas going to tell you about that,
so he may have m I know, Jan gott in a big fight.
Okay, I saw that one,but I didn't see Curtis getting a fight.
(21:56):
But everybody who saw Curtis, everysingle person and said, WHOA,
that is a big guy. Didyou say, did you say, well,
you should see him with his mullet? Oh no, I didn't.
That would have been a great comeback. That would have been a great comeback.
Can't go everywhere with you, Kim. His hair looks really good because
I did actually see him in thehallway before he got his helmet on,
(22:18):
and his hair looked fantastic. Bigfan of the not the mullet, looking
good, looking good. Oh,Dusty, by the way, was with
you on that trip, Kim?In fact, you and Dusty. You
and Dusty were travel partners, andDusty created a lot of content on that
trip, which I think you've shota lot of that content, which I
think makes you a social media influenceras well. I did shoot a lot.
(22:45):
I had a very good time beingDusty's personal assistant. I think is
more adequate or more more apt becauseI didn't. I'm not the person who
posted everything. I just took allthe the videos and the footage, but
had an amazing time with Dusty.Dusty was, you know, just just
(23:07):
went full as Dusty like did likethe airport looked pretty empty, like it
looked pretty sleepy when Dusty was grabbingDusty was grabbing the suitcase off the carousel.
We waited until most people left. There were some people around, and
we got very lucky that there wasa little like hidden nook underneath the escalators
(23:32):
that you have to take down tocome to baggage claim back behind there there
was like a little hidden nook withsome restrooms and like a little bench to
sit down on. So we wereable to strategize how things were going to
happen in this little hidden nook. But which is how airport was a little
bit bigger, I think than TucsonAirport, but we never saw it crowded.
(23:56):
And one thing that we noticed thatyou obviously have been airport a gazillion
times, the dunkin Donuts at theTwo Sound International Airport has a line.
No matter the time or day thatyou go, there is a line of
like thirty people at that dunkin Donuts. The Wichita dunkin Donuts was the most
efficient thing I have ever seen inmy entire life. It was military precision
(24:18):
in that dunkin Donuts. It wasamazing. And they were completely swamped,
but they got people in and outof there so fast. It was amazing.
We had a long conversation about dunkinDonuts. I want to hear about
the entire trip. Kim, likeI've given everybody the hockey, right we
walked five to one. Josh donegot a hat trick. I haven't got
the win. Dusty was there, you were there. I just want to
(24:40):
go down memory lane. Last timeI was in the Wichita Airport, I
thought we were gonna have to leavesome players in Wichita last time I was
there. How come we were thereon a Sunday afternoon. We were trying
to get out of town. Andyou know how it is when you're you're
traveling with a team, Like there'scall ups, there's guys assigned on the
trip, there's trades trying to getout of town. It's a it's been
(25:00):
a long trip, and we've gottensome some guys off the trade. Some
guys got sent down from the affiliate. Who knows what right, but I
have five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten guys that didn't
get their names changed on their tickets. So our rep did not get the
(25:21):
names changed on the tickets. Andit was just one of those sundays where
nobody was working with anybody, nobodywanted to work with anybody, and they
were not going to change the ticketson the flights. I didn't have to.
I thought I was going to haveto buy new tickets for everybody to
(25:42):
get on the flight. But forsome reason that the last second, they
all showed up in the computer withthe right names. That was my last
experience at the Witch tire Port. And then I'm starving. I get through
security, I'm like, oh,great, Chick fil A. I've had
a morning and Sunday it was closed. It was Sunday. It was Sunday,
(26:03):
man, I didn't know what dayit was. I didn't know what
day it was at that point, right, I've been arguing at the ticket
counter. Do you know, doyou know what guy looks like in a
suit, who is surrounded by hockeybags, who's surrounded by ten guys who
don't have a plane ticket, lookslike trying to get the deal done at
the ticket counter. I would loveto see the photograph of that, for
(26:26):
sure. I wish, I wishwe would have taken one. Some one
should have just been standing by Bak. This looks interesting. I'm going to
take a picture of it. Andthen all of a sudden the names showed
up in the computer and we wentthrough security and went back home. Oh,
closed, chick Fila was closed. That's probably one of the worst feelings
when you're having just a chill, relaxing Sunday and you were like, you
(26:48):
know what it would make this Sundayjust perfect some Chick fil A, And
then you realize, oh, it'sSunday. But it's Sunday, right,
Sunday, So still there. Yeah. The most random thing that I saw
at the Wichita Airport, because Iwas walking around before the flight, is
you know the massage chairs that theyhave in them all. They have them
in the airports also, they hadthose, but they didn't have them grouped
(27:11):
together in any way, so therewould just be like a long hallway with
nothing except for one of those massagechairs, just one. So it was
it was like very awkwardly placed. So I was trying to figure out.
One of them was literally right nextto an ATM, so that if you
were sitting in the chair, youwere looking up at the person who was
(27:33):
using the ATM, and I couldnot figure that out unless there was an
outlet issue. So that was somethingthat I haven't seen before. Usually those
things are grouped together so more thanone person can sit together. But there
wasn't like any other seating anywhere aroundthe chair, just the chair against a
wall, nothing else. Is thatyour best story from your trip to Wichita
(27:55):
and back? No, it's good. Hey, speaking about what's happened to
the shoe shine guys? Where'd theygo? You guys noticed there's no sho
I actually saw one. I waswhen I was in Vegas for the Rookie
showcase we talked about last week onthe podcast. I saw shoes one person.
It was only one. That's kindof what we were to say,
shoe shiner, the shoes shiners.Yeah, I saw one and I thought
(28:19):
to myself, who still does that? Theres on and I'm trying to remember
I haven't seen him in a reallylong time. Like he was just like
a really nice guy who would shineyour shoes out there by the gates.
He was, you know, downthere on the concourse. Interesting, but
no, that is not the mostexciting story that I have from wichitam take
(28:41):
take us through it, Kim.I didn't eat Chick fil A, but
Dusty got Chick fil A off theplane starving needed chick fil A. Chick
fil A. Yeah, well,I sorry before we go into one question
where people confused seeing a giant roadrunnerwalking around the airport or people just cares
like, well, who is that? No, people were so friendly and
(29:04):
just kind of said hi and andwe're laughing and watching. But no,
nobody nobody said boo about it.It was it was very entertaining to watch.
That was my one curiosity, youknow, to myself, if I
saw road runner walking around the airport, I'd be like, it's gonna be
a reason for that. Yes,definitely going on in town. It was
(29:27):
such a fast trip, so wedidn't actually get to see any of Wichita
other than I'm sure, Adrian, you're like this. You go from the
airport to the hotel, hotel tothe arena, arena, back to the
hotel, back to the airport. So I saw the two miles of that,
and that was it, other thanthe fact that Wichita looked very flat
(29:48):
and very farm landy from the airplanelike that, Well, that's just what
I was going to say. Whatdid what did you expect to see that?
That's exactly what I expected to see. But I saw and I would
assume, Yeah, it was interesting. Did you know that Wichita is the
air capital of the world. Idid know that. I didn't know that.
Of course you knew that, Johnnydid air capital like way like flying
(30:11):
or my way off? No,no, no, you're you're You've got
it. But I decided to belike sarcastic with like our uber driver and
be like, do you guys producemore air here than other places? Yeah?
That's why I was confused. Iwas like, dude, they have
better air quality or here, likewhat's going on? No aerospace and engineering?
Oh wow, you know what? That that kind of rings a bell
(30:33):
somewhat. I think I've like slightlyheard about that, but you know now
I'm reassured. That's interesting. Theywere like named the air capital of the
world in like the nineteen twenties orsomething. Because I had to google it,
I was like, what what doesthis all mean? Because it's everywhere
Since nineteen twenty eight, they havebeen the air capital of the world.
(30:53):
Wow, that's a longstanding ovation,I guess. Just yeah, defending champ
beans since nineteen twenty eight, noone has ever defeated them in almost a
hundred years. Nobody's making it moreair than Yeah. Here's here's a Wichita
question for you, Kim. Whatpresident is the airport named after? How
(31:17):
okay go? I know this becausethere's a big giant mural of him when
you're in baggage claim and it's Eisenhower. I don't have an airport. Yeah,
that's it. Mm hm cool.I cannot I cannot, for the
life of me find what ICT standsfor. That's the three digit three digit
(31:37):
code for the airport. I can'tfind it. Maybe two like channel I
thought it might. I thought itmight be something with being the air capital
of the world or Eisenhower but there'snothing here ICT ICT ICT. Yeah,
(32:00):
I'm gonna spend like a second,don't. I've been googling. I've been
googling it for five minutes. Ican't find a thing ICT. You said
ICT. Yeah, that the gamewas called the ICT ICE International Game.
I can't remember. But I keptsaying, why is it ICT? And
(32:22):
they were like, that's just whatit's called. It's ICT. That's weird.
Yeah, oh here, what doesICT ST? I know this is
Wikipedia. I don't know if youcan trust Wikipedia. Let me see this
is I'm trying to read as fastas I can see. I've I've been
(32:43):
looking to man like I can't findout what what ICT and it stands for
with the wichtire report, like,it's just it's not like it's not like
a C TACH or a PDX ora t US or a PHX or and
yeah, I just said the airport. It says ICT designation is an abbreviation
for Wichita, but it doesn't stillsay, well, I because there's an
(33:07):
I, C and a T andwichita when you spell it out, that's
I guess that's it. Oh sowait, like international Wichitas something like that
ICE like ICT, Like you can'tspell WHICHITA without ICT. There's Oh that's
weird. Wait, really that's whatThat's what it means. I think,
(33:28):
So that's that's funny. I likethat. I've I've never seen Kim make
a look of such like yeah, because it just says like ICT is Kansas
is largest airport. But like, like make just called ICT. No one's
literally just says not a full nameor anything. It just keeps keeps calling
it ICT. Kim Kim just givesme the look like are you serious?
(33:52):
Right now? Kim has never reallygiven me the R serious look. Kim
Kim is the one person I knowthat's never given me the RU serious look
because she's just really so ice andloyal. But it's not about you.
It's about the ICT. Yeah, that's it. That's all it's about.
But then now my brain is likereeling because they kept saying and I think
(34:14):
it's written places too, and Idid not make that connection that at the
game they were calling things the ICTice. I was like, what is?
And I kept asking people what doesICT stand for? And they were
there was no answer. So Idon't even know that they know the reason
for their their airport code. Ithink we just figured out in the Insider
(34:37):
podcast right here with us took threepeople, took me. I was looking.
Jonathan Shaffer then picked up the chase, and then Kim's here mouth and
off about it, and we figuredout I did nothing great minds think alike,
the three wonderful brains of wisdom. It was that interest arena is absolute
(35:00):
gorgeous. It's nice, yeah,it's yeah, it's a really nice facility.
And it reminded me I haven't beenbehind the scenes at Mullet, but
I had been at in Glendale.Whatever that one's called. I can't remember
right now now it's Desert Diamond,Oh, okay, it was, that's
(35:22):
it. It was very similar layoutwise to that where they make it very
easy for the behind the scenes andproduction crew to get around on that main
ice level, running around back throughthose hallways. But the entire staff at
that arena was absolutely fantastic. AndI don't know if they're going to listen,
(35:44):
but we worked with Avery, Justin, Chris, Austin, Claire,
Corey, Brian, and Ed andeverybody was so friendly and so nice.
And it was Dusty and I weretalking, or I was talking at Dusty.
Dusty was nodding with me. Itwas incredibly chaotic because we there were
(36:05):
times when we didn't have a lotof information about things that were going to
happen, but so much fun andso yeah, just yeah, just a
lot, a lot of chaos ina short amount of time. And it
was just a great production staff, absolutely fantastic. And this is this is
how I envision it going. Okay, Keim and Dusty wandering around walking asking
(36:31):
questions. Follow the yell ofric road, follow the road, follow the yellow
road. Dusty's just pointing. Dusty'sjust pointing at the road which way to
go, or trying to ask peoplewhere to go, like just tap him
on his shoulders and trying to handsignal, would where or I would say
(36:52):
wing signal because oh, there yougo. As a roadrunner. But yeah,
I think I think that that wouldbe really funny to see follow the
yellow brick road. Road. Ohmy gosh, yeah, you're taking me
taking me back when you when youwere following the yellow brick road, did
you see any any people we'd knowany uh behind the scenes, who'd you
(37:14):
who'd you encounter? I ran intoeverybody actually, so happened to be standing
out in the hallway when both teamsgot there. So I saw the Blues
and was like, Okay, Idon't know any of these people, and
then was talking with somebody and sawSteve right away, so Steve and Steve
(37:35):
was there, and Zach was there, and then Lee step Stepniak, Yeah,
director a player development. Yeah,he was assistant coaching. And then
and then you know, the guysstarted following. So the hard part for
me in this interaction was I hada list before I got there of the
(37:57):
guys who were going to be there, the players who were going to be
there, And as the guys startfiling through, my brain is clicking that
these aren't the guys that I wasexpecting to see. These aren't the guys
on my list. So as they'recoming through, and I'm like, oh
no, that's all I'm thinking about. I'm trying to say hi. Ben
comes in, Jan Curtis, andmy brain is like, I'm not seeing
(38:21):
the names, Adrian that you andI had talked about the names that we
had gone through previously. So thenI'm like, I don't have a good
roster for the Coyotes at this point. So my poor brain was scrambling trying
to figure this out and then luckily, about ten minutes later, the team
passes. Everybody goes to the lockerrooms and I'm trying to figure out what
to do. One of the productionguys there, I'm like, do you
(38:46):
have an Arizona roster? He givesme a roster, but it is the
full training camp roster of nine millionplayers, and I'm like, do you
have anything that's just the guys thatare here, and he's like, no,
but you can use this to figurestuff out. So luckily, five
minutes later I run into Jake Wagmanand I'm like, oh Jake, Oh,
(39:07):
thank god, Oh, thank god. And Jake is able to followell
Road the Wizard at the end ofthe Yellow Brick Road with Jake, and
he had he had the roster,he had the starters. Yan wasn't on
the roster anywhere, so then Ihad to find his number. Jake,
(39:29):
Yeah, he produced miracles for methis weekend. You just got to be.
One of the worst things when you'reworking in hockey was when you don't
have a completed roster. I've hada lot of experience with that when I
broadcasted for club hockey at Sandose State. Sandose State was fine. They always
had the roster set, but sometimesan away team would come in and who
(39:50):
knows who's what you know? Andsometimes I think one time we played Stanford
and I had no idea, likeI had a roster set up right,
and then game starts or like warmup start, and I'm telling myself this
is completely inaccurate, and I justhad a wing at the whole game.
You know, you know, whenStanford would have had the puck, I
just like, oh, here comethe cardinal, and I don't know who
If someone would score, I wouldnot know who it is, right right.
(40:14):
You always want to be accurate withthe names. And then I noticed
some of the numbers were wrong, like I'm watching Justin Kirkland go by and
then the roster his number is twentyfifty two, but when he comes by,
he's twenty five. So then mybrain has to like, okay,
I gotta fix this. Yeah.Yeah. And then also there's guys that
I don't know on the team, and I don't know how to say their
(40:37):
names, so so then I amfuriously texting Adrian, please voice memom me
how to say these names so thatif they come up, I don't say
Zuber incorrectly, right. So,yeah, so Adrian was there texting with
me and you were your niece's birthdayparty, right, soccer game? Soccer
(40:58):
game? Yes, so I yeah. In the voice memo that Adrian did
send me, it's I hear allthis screaming in the background and little voices,
and I'm like, where are youYou're telling me Adrian was just voicing
off people on this phone in themiddle of a game. Just the typical
look I get from the family, typical look I get from the family anywhere
(41:22):
we're out in public and I'm justI'm on my phone or I'm dealing with
something, or I'm doing voice memosinto the phone. Kim texts me back,
She's like, are those people cheeringfor you? Well, of course,
yeah, let's go, Adrian.Yeah, all the little voices say
the names, right, let's go. Because because Kim, it was a
busy day for the Coyotes. Theystarted the day off in Saint Louis,
(41:44):
and so you got the lineup forthe Saint Louis game, and then the
other part of the team that wasn'tin Australia and wasn't in Saint Louis,
and I never heard the results ofthe Saint Louis game. We had a
fantastic game in Wichita. I wasJosh Don't looked amazing and just very very
(42:05):
well conditioned and focused. Our ourteam. The shots on goal, I
don't know if you guys saw anyof that, but insane, an insane
amount that so disparate it didn't makesense. And in through the first period
I kept watching the shots on goal. Was like sixteen to one at one
point for shots on goal, andthen we doubled, We more than doubled
(42:30):
their shots on goal. So itmakes sense, you know, mathematically,
it makes sense that we won.But there their offense was lacking, and
and our our offense and our defenselooks really good. It's just what you
get in the preseason, right. You don't know if you're gonna get the
Arizona Coyotes who were in Australia,or the Saint Louis Blues, who I
(42:52):
assume we're in Saint Louis playing theirhome game, or last night in Austin
it looked like you had the DallasStars playing the you know, the Arizona
Coyotes group. We didn't go toAustralia, who needed some more ice time
after a Saturday night in Wichita ona Saturday afternoon and in Saint Louis.
(43:13):
Right, kind of some some goofyscores that that you see. But how
great was Ivan? He didn't seea lot of action, but fun to
see Ivan between the pipes. Yeah, it was so great to see him,
very exciting. He was number one, which was different his new number
with the Coyotes, number one.Fantastic, Yeah, I was. He
didn't get much of a workout thereinitially. The Saint Louis kind of got
(43:37):
it together in the second and thirdperiod and then they did the shootouts at
the end, which I missed,So I don't even know how the shootout
went at the end because I wasrunning around. Who else did you see?
Did you talk to any of theother other guys? Did Ivan Sea?
Did Josh Sea? I saw Joshbut he was walking very really fast.
(43:59):
Time did Curtis really quick? Justkind of add asked, hey,
did you have a great summer?Did you have a good summer? Had
a nice talk with Steve and heshared with me that he spent his family
was able to go up to Canadafor the summer, but he stayed.
He stayed down here the entire time, said hid it to Yan and Ben.
(44:19):
I saw Ryan, I saw Hunter, but I didn't recognize him until
after he'd passed because we'd only we'veonly met virtually. So yeah, some
of my little brain was trying toplay ketchup. And then actually the first
player that walked them in was Vlad, so it was good to see him
too. Flat Kochanik, who hadan assist in the game, that's the
man, that's him. What aboutStephen Camphor did you see? I did
(44:43):
see Stephen come in. Yeah,he was in the group when I when
I my brain was recognizing that Ididn't have the right people that I was
looking at. He was part ofthat group where I was like, oh,
no, steps not on my list. There's one PA announcer cam in
America that standing down downstairs at theInterest Bank Arena looking at the Arizona Coyotes
(45:05):
walk in and say these are notwho I have. These are not them.
Yep, that was me. Yeah, So I'm very curious for the
players if they could tell from thelook on my face that it wasn't that
I wasn't happy to see them, but I was very confused when I saw
them. So there was a lotof name recognition. You know, a
lot of gears were spinning. Allmy hamsters were trying to cycle as fast
(45:30):
as they could in my brain. So so I'm looking. So you don't
see Nathan Smith. You don't seeTravis Baron, you don't see Rheese Fittelli.
You don't see Milosh Callaman. Youdon't see Colin Tyson. You don't
see Michael Lombardi. You don't seeMontana Anya Bucci. You don't see Cameron
he Big, you don't see MichaelMiller. And you're like, and they
(45:50):
don't seem he was. He wasalso on that list. Oh Cam Karate
was there. Yeah, you don'tsee any of them, and you're like,
this isn't right. Good for you, Kim, good job, good
Yeah, way to work on thefly. Yeah, way to be down
creeping out by the player entrance. That is what I am known for,
Adrian at this point, I havethe creep. That's it, Yep,
(46:13):
I do the creep. So yeah, it was so. And also I
only pa announced for one one period. I got to introduce the starting lineup,
do puck drop and a few otherlittle things. And in the first
period I got to call Josh's firstgoal, and then the production team had
(46:34):
me in game host, so Ibecame like the beef along with their their
beef, whose name was Avery,And that was absolute madness because for two
intermissions and two periods it's basically justrunning around the entire arena doing all the
stuff that Beef does in the game, but down in the stands with the
(47:00):
fans so and they were so lovely. Avery actually introduced me to all the
fans in Wichita on the video boardand everybody turned and looked and said high
and welcome, and everybody was wavingat me. It was very, very
nice. It was incredibly fat flattered, And once he made that introduction and
(47:21):
we were walking around, people werestopping me to say welcome to Wichita.
So absolutely blown away by the fans. Yeah, fun time, fun place.
Yeah, fun people. Glad youand Dusty could go out there and
make it up and really pull itall together. Kim, you did five
one coyotes. Not bad at all. Wait, and then yeah, how
did What was the result of theSaint Louis game? I missed that that
(47:44):
score St. Louis Lewis. Ithink it was pretty Louis. Yeah,
Saint Louis won that one. Kytysplit in Australia and Texas and the Dallas
Stars one last night at the CedarPark h GB Center where we will open
the season and just over two weeksagainst Texas Stars for the road Runners.
(48:05):
The first fan Fest. Yeah, first fan fest, and we'll be doing
our podcast from fan fest coming upnext Sunday, Hunter Drew Colin Tyson gonna
be joining us for all the action. Jonathan Shaefer stepping in his first full
episode next Sunday, getting moved inhere to Tucson, coming from San Jose
(48:27):
and the the Barracuda. Jonathan,Welcome, Glad you're moved in. Happy
to have you. It's been quitethe walk up, quite the tease,
quite the leading. But welcome backto the podcast. Yeah, it's it's
interesting that you know, through thiswhole process. Yeah, I've been on
board for about, you know,a month or so, but now I'm
finally in the office, all movedin. But yeah, it's been quite
(48:50):
the journey. I graduated in SanJose, from Sanjose stay but then came
back home. Well, I'm originallyfrom in Riverside, California, which is
near All So when we finally gotthe move drowing my parents and I had
to drive up to San Jose andgrabs my betting from storage because I didn't
know where I was going to beat the time, so I just threw
(49:13):
everything in a storage une and Iwas told myself, I'll just go get
it later, or I'll just youknow, or if I came back up
north, So I put it allin there. We did that, drove
all the way back down, loadedthe rest of the stuff on the trailer,
and then drove to Tucson. AndI think as we speak right now,
my parents are at my apartment finishinggetting stuff together. They're still in
(49:35):
town. So yeah, I sawa lot of unpacking to do. But
I also mentioned Adrian, I havea really funny story for when I got
my had my moving day, whichwas just two days ago, so my
brother was So I drove separate frommy parents to have my car, and
my brother drove with me, andwe had to leave at a decent time
because the offices of my new apartmentcloses at five, so we knew,
(50:00):
like, we need to get herebefore five so we can get myself and
get my keys. So we drivethe six hours once stop going all the
way and I get there and youknow, it's like an hour left before
they closed. So we made itwith you know, time to spare.
And I have a had a movingcharge to pay, and so I paid
(50:21):
it like the night before, justto get that over with. And when
I paid it, they said, hey, we don't mean to be too
strict about this, but you didn'tpay thirty three cents. I missed thirty
three cents on my payment. SoI'm like, okay, you know what,
It's fine. You know, they'rethey have to be official, you
know, they have a business torun. I wasn't too angry at the
time, so I try to payit on the mobile app, which also
(50:45):
sucks because it charges an extra threebucks for online payments. But I was
kind of rushed at the time,so I was like, okay, I'll
just I'll eat the five dollars somethingthat they could just you could just roll
into your next rent payment. That'sthey will. Since I was moving in
and wasn't technically a resident yet,they couldn't do it. They haven't rules,
I don't know. So I itwas the manager who was there too,
(51:07):
so like, you know, soshe had the final state. But
so I can't pay it. Itried paying it twice and now it's telling
me, oh, now, sinceyou're trying to do two payments at once,
like there's a security issue. Soand I even have change on me.
So I asked him, like,I can't just give you like fifty
cents. They're like, no,we don't even take cash. And I'm
(51:27):
like, what do I'll I'll behonest with you, Jonathan, I'm surprised
it didn't turn you around and sendyou a safe way to get a money
order. They know they did. They send me I went to Albertson's.
They said, oh, you mighthave to go to Albertson's. And by
the time it was like maybe fouror four fifteen. So I was like,
okay, you know what, Idon't want to argue about this,
you know. And I had along day, and I don't really snap
on people like that at all.I have a very like long they call
(51:51):
what short templary if you get angrya lot, but like long temper,
I guess. So, but yeah, I could have easily gone mad because
I was so exhausted from driving. But I was told myself, you want
just go do it, So Ithought this was a funny story. You
said this was a funny story.I might find it hilarious. It's a
funny story to me. I wasmad at the time, but now I
look back, I'm like, thatwas funny. If if it makes a
good story for the podcast two daysdown the road, we'll get through it.
(52:15):
So my brother and I go inmy car, go to the store,
go to Albertson's and I go upto the customer service and I tell
them, you're the thing, I'mcrazy, but I need a money order
for thirty three cents. And Iexplained them all to all of it.
They're really nice, so yeah,of course, get the money order,
get that in, and I gotmoved moved in and all that. I
need to find that the receipt ofthat because I want to keep it because
(52:37):
I just again, I find thatstory so funny. They almost wouldn't have
let me moved in over thirty threecents, and it just would have been
bad because my parents were about twohours away with their my trailer and we
needed to get moved in that nightbecause you know, then yesterday we had
to do some stuff and then nowI'm here today. I just the whole
schedule would have had to get rearrangedif we didn't get moved in. But
(53:00):
yeah, we got it done.Still have a lot of work left to
do, but so far, sogood in Tucson. I love the city.
The weather has been nice, nottoo hot, and yeah, it's
been great. And and dude,Jonathan, last week we talked about talked
about food from your come come checkeverything out, get the apartment trip from
(53:21):
last month, and now we've gotfood to talk about from your first weekend
as an official resident of Tucson.Yeah. We we went to Guadalajara first.
The night we got in, wewere so tired, but we knew
we had to eat something really goodservice. I when my brother and I
got there first, and they gaveus chips but no salsa, and we
(53:45):
were like, where's the salsa? You know, we didn't want to be
like rude about it, but youknow, usually you get served chips and
salsa and then head over you canhead over to Albertson's and get a money
order for whatever they need first. Also, yeah, right, but then
little did I know is that theymake the salsa in front of you.
So someone comes up and they askedus like, oh, how do you
want it like mild spicy? Wedid? We did like medium, I
(54:07):
think made in front of us.That was really cool. Drinks were great.
I got myself a nice mango margarita, and then for my food,
I ordered this, guys, soundweird, but I ordered a shrimp quesadilla,
something I've never had before. Itwas awesome. I saw have leftover,
(54:27):
so I'm probably gonna eat that later. Yeah, it was great service,
great atmosphere there. And then thenext day we went to a breakfast
spot called the Nook I think iswhat it was called. Adrian recommended it
to me. That was awesome. That was probably one of the best,
some of the best breakfast I've everhad. My dad ordered a grittle the
grittle pancakes or the the cinnamon grittles. Gosh, shows were good, like
(54:52):
just crispy and not too sweet. And then I ended up getting like a
breakfast sandwich with some coffee and yeah, they were just everything was really good.
I feel like we have really goodbreakfast spots and well obviously Mexican restaurants,
so you need to now expand yourrepertoire and start going to all the
(55:12):
different breakfast in Mexican places and thebreakfasting Mexican places also. Oh yeah,
I have a lot of places togo try, but so far, I
would say the Nook is my goto breakfast spot, and it wasn't that
expensive either. I think my dadordered steak and eggs for like fifteen bucks,
so reasonable prices and yeah, justgreat food. So far. I'm
excited to try all kinds of differentplaces as the weeks go on. While
(55:34):
I'm here, Do you feel likeyou can see the difference between San Jose
and here? Was it insanely expectable? Oh? Yes, well, you
know, it's just a Bay area, especially living cost. Not to go
too far into it, but like, I'm paying the same amount for my
own place here compared to a roomin San Jose, So it's you know,
(55:55):
it's it's nice. That was thefirst thing I noticed when I first
started looking out places here in Tucson. And of course I had my apartment
tour slash trip here about probably amonth and a half ago. Now it's
just to check out the city. But atmosphere wise, I don't know what
it's like yet. I don't knowwhat a Saturday night looks like out here,
but I think they're they're just similar. Just two cities with a sports
(56:19):
team and you know, nice littledowntown area not too big, and some
nice suburbs. So so far assimilar. But yeah, price wise,
it's a Tucson's nice. That's great. Wait and then, so what's the
lunch plan for today? Guys?I feel like you probably have a plan.
My mom packed me a sandwich,so yeah, I know. Yeah,
my mom's still doing stuff for me, because we were last night were
(56:42):
my dad and I were building allthe chairs and tables that I have,
and my mom asked, do youwant me to make you a sandwich?
I thought I was going to schoolagain, so I don't know what kind
of sandwich is. So I'll probablyjust eat that for now unless we do
have lunch plans. But yeah,we're going to Street Tacoka. Yeah,
my mom's still looking out for methough. Yeah, it'll be fine.
(57:04):
It'll be fine in three days whenthey leave. My mom made me a
peanut butter sandwich over the weekend. Then I'm gonna have for lunch on Wednesday.
Oh wow, still be fine.Yeah. Yeah, my parents are
trying to just milk as much timethey have with me left. They're still
in town. They're well, they'resupposed to. They were going to leave
this morning and then they decided tostay here today. They're supposed to leave
tomorrow, but who knows. Theykind of wing stuff sometimes, so,
(57:28):
you know, because my dad ownshis own business, so he works when
he wants to. So they mightbe here till Wednesday. We'll see.
Definitely getting put a dinner with themtonight. So Adrian, I might need
another recommendation from you. Let's let'shave Kim do the recommendation, because yeah,
Kim was making faces earlier. Yeah, so we did have We did
have Guadalajara. I'm not saying Mexicumfoods out the window because you know,
