Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, all right, all right.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yes, indeed, you are the author of your story, of
your journal.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
In this journal, you will get to know yourself better.
And who better to get to know, dear journal.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yesterday's Netble game was monumental. Cancer affects us all in
some way. If it's not us, it's someone we love,
and yesterday we were united for the Cancer Society. But
let's not forget the driving force behind how this event
came about. It was an idea in a planning room,
but the only person who could bring it to life
was Tony. She picked up her phone and nearly every
(00:37):
person she called said yes. That's a genuine testament to
her character. Tony has created these relationships through her years
as a sports journalist, her commitment and involvement at Netble
week in and week out, and the fact that every
interaction with Tony is a positive one always. In fact,
she even had to lock down my groomsman from my wedding,
(00:58):
Kirk Penny, because of my lack of plan Tony, you
are a force, but a kind, gentle force of love that,
when push comes to shove, isn't afraid of applying a
Chinese burden.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yeah, I'm sorry. For that pushing and shoving last night.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
That's beautiful and you know and every word is right
and true. High journal wa a week we played in
a charity nipple match, playing with and against some of
the greatest athletes New Zealand has ever known, Olympians, World Champs, icons,
and some of the most generous people you could ever
hope to meet. They all gave their time to help
us raise money for those affected by cancer, like so
many of us are or have been. The numbers are
now one in three New Zealanders. My family's amongst those numbers,
(01:35):
with both my parents losing their parents. So yeah, my
grandparents to this heartbreaking disease. As a proud mummies boy
and someone who regards my dad as one of my
best friends, that scares me to my core. It's also
another reason why I'll be celebrating Father's Day this Sunday.
Being a dad is one of the greatest things to
ever happen to me. Being my father's son also ranks
right up there too. They say every child deserves a
(01:57):
dad they can be proud of, and I hit the jackpot.
And I really hope that one day my kids somehow
feel the same way about me so to the fathers
and the father figures everywhere, and to you if this
has made you think about your dad, I hope this
Sunday is a really nice day for you. And if
you can't be with your dad, I hope the thought
of him makes you smile. To my dad, thank you,
I love you. And to the mums who made us dads,
thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Oh Jase, that was so sweet. And you know what,
I know your boys thing You're a wonderful dad already.
It won't take them years to know that.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I'm very lucky.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Dear journal, Well, that was a joyful experience, wasn't it.
Being part of a charity event like our netball game
warms the soul. Knowing so many people are willing to
support the Cancer Society by doing their bit. From the
players who text back within minutes to say hell yes,
sign me up, to the umpires, physios and commentators that
gave up their precious time free of charge. And then
there is you, our wonderful listeners who have donated funds
(02:46):
to help people and families facing heroin cancer journeys to
feel make sure they feel supported and seen. Coincidentally, my
good friend Mark is right in the middle of a
chemotherapy cycle this week, and he and his wife Candace
are two of the most divine and positive people I
know even throughout this ordeal. So I'm proud of everyone
who has contributed to the our Cancer Society this week
(03:07):
and will continue to do so today by texting support
the word support to two zero six, because I know
exactly the people that you are helping, people like Candice
and Mark, and they truly deserve every bit of help
that we can give them. Amen on that.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Thank you very much. That's a bit of a snapshot
of our week. Hopefully you've had a really nice one
