Speaker 1 (00:00):
I love all the things that you talk about too,
like being brave, So talking I want to kind of
talk about that because there's so many complex feelings as
a child that carry on into adulthood, which is like
you're taught to be brave, but then you're taught to
be nice, and then you're taught to like it's all
these things. So it's like Chrissy and Bradley, y'all both
are talking earlier about, you know, people pleasing and like

(00:24):
getting through that. But obviously both of y'all have been
very brave because look at the careers y'all both have built. Bradley,
you're huge in the country music industry. You are just
like such a staple in Nashville. And Chrissy you have
built this incredible career with acting. So it's like, how
do we be brave as a child when we are
doubting everything? Because y'all both figured out how to do that. Yeah. Well,

(00:47):
on the album, it's a song called Learning to Be Brave,
you wrote with Phil Barton and Liz Rose. Let's pulled
directly from a from a line in the book, and
it's teachers children that you don't have to be brave,
right now you can learn to be brave. How do
we learn to be brave? Well, for me, I think
it's about taking a step that might scare you and saying, Okay,

(01:08):
I'm going to take the first step. I don't know
what it's going to look like, but I know that
I'm gonna do it for myself and I'm going to
learn how to be brave. And then I think every
time you have a positive experience, or even if it's
not quote unquote a positive experience, you put yourself out
there and then you can trust yourself. And I think
what real, real trust in yourself, real confidence is trust.

(01:32):
Oh that's so huge, trusting yourself. Yeah, yeah, Yeah. For me,
it was leaving the industry and being a creative finally
writing songs. That was the biggest thing I've had to
be brave of in my life, is letting go of
this thing that i'd built for sixteen years and starting
all over again in the same industry and a new

(01:54):
and a new capacity and writing songs is the best
thing I've ever the best gift I've ever given to myself. Yeah,
it's amazing because we always talk about it like we're
I think we're still learning to be brave, like we
still walk through. You suit up and you show up,
and you just pray and hope that the things that
are going to happen that you need to see or

(02:16):
hear or feel. And there are times where I'm like,
I don't I'm scared, Like I don't know if I
can do this, Like should I I perform? Should I?
I want to get the message out, but like, oh
my goodness, I'm so triggered by you know, not being
accepted by somebody or if somebody's judging me. And I'm
like yeah, but like hopefully the drive to want to
share the message of the song or the movie or

(02:37):
whatever it is that I'm doing will sort of be
the louder voice as opposed to like the insecurity or
the fear. And you know, as everybody always says that
fear is false evidence appearing real. Yeah, it's like sort
of putting the back of my mind. But yeah, it's
just sort of putting one foot in front of the
other and stepping out on faith. And you're trusting yourself,

(03:01):
trusting that you know what you have or what you
feel inside of you is what it's supposed to be
seeing by other people. Yeah, and it could be scary.
So like that's why we were so adamant about saying
we're learning to be brave. You know, we're not saying
you have to be brave tomorrow and I figured out tomorrow. Um,
we're all learning, and hopefully if we're on this plane

(03:22):
of existence, we're still learning because there's this there's this
moment that happens in bravery that there's so many moments,
but one of them. And Bradley, you just talked about this.
You were obviously in the industry for a long time.
Everyone in Nashville knows who you are, like you've been
a huge staple and I mean I feel like you've
done just like you're like almost like a face of
the national country music industry, like being your You've been around,

(03:45):
everyone loves you, everyone knows you. So for you to
now say who you've been working with all these creatives
for us so long, like you've been working with all
these songwriters for so long. Now for you to say, oh,
I'm actually gonna do this, like this is what I
feel called to do. Like and then Christy you stepping
out and like singing and acting and saying I feel

(04:07):
called to be this actress and the singer and put
myself in front of people and like Bradley Lakers saying,
and put myself in front of people and let myself
be exposed and let myself be open to people having
feelings about me. That is such a huge moment when
you take that jump, and I feel like that moment
is the hardest place for people to get to, is that. Yeah,

(04:29):
And a lot of it is what you think other
people think about you, right, Like I had to realize
there's not a Thursday meeting, a Thursday afternoon meeting at
two pm, I'll music grow and how people are not
going to help Bradley Collins but they need to be
having one right, Yeah, well you have to help me. Yeah,
But I mean there's people not working against you. People

(04:51):
don't have that much time, you know. And I had
to really get over the idea that what the perception
of what I was doing now is, you know. And
it it's something I faced every single day and I
have to be brave every single day to be all right,
I'm gonna go on this room with people that know
me as a performing rites person, but I'm going to
come in with this song idea and let's see what

(05:12):
happens you navigate yourself PEP talks. Do you have like
mantras that you tell yourself to be brave, because that's
a big deal, even though it's like the people in
the room probably aren't sitting there analyzing like you are.
You got, You're switching your hats, You're coming in from
a different angle, so you have to gear up. I
was in the middle of quarantine and I was sitting

(05:33):
on my couch thinking what am I doing. No one
has ever done this way, no one's gotten into songwriting
the way I have. And it was in a meditation
or a prayer or whatever. But if the line came
to me that just because no one has been on
this path before, it doesn't mean it's not your path.
And I was like, that's something that I can hold
on to and move and move forward with knowing that

(05:55):
just because no one's done it this way, it doesn't
mean it can't happen. And maybe I'm the first one
to do it, you know, And that's what gives me
the confidence to go in and show up. But also
I have to, you know, just say this out loud,
like everybody's perception of you is not reality, because everybody
has a different perception. The way you see a tree
is not the way I see a tree because of

(06:16):
the way you've you've been raised, the way I've been raised,
And so we pulled on to people's ideas or perceptions
of us that they're not even real, you know. I
think it's just it's like not real. It's what they
think from from their sort of perspective and their point
of view. And so I have to remember, like, am
I happy doing what I'm doing? Am I finding joy?
Am I being fulfilled? Because ultimately that's that's the key,

(06:39):
and that's what you want. And people who are meant
to hear your message or here your songs or here
you're you know, whatever it is that you have to say,
we'll find you, you know, and those are those are
the right people that are meant to find you and
hear your songs and work with you and set up
rights with you. But it's very challengeging what it's something

(07:00):
you've never done before. So I just always like to
remind myself like their perception is their reality, and what
people really think about me, it's not It's not my
business
