A review into the Wellington City Council's communication and engagement function has called for the Council's corporate identity and external branding to get a refresh.
The 23-page-long review, released last week, pointed to issues with public perception of the council that includes dysfunction among Council staff and a feeling that Wellington City Council staff talk 'to and at community groups rather than listening to them'.
But Wellington City Councillor Fleur Fitzsimons told Nick Mills the Council should not be worried about its 'brand' and instead focus on fixing issues in Capital, like water infrastructure woes.
"I don't think that is the way to go given the massive issues Wellington is facing at the moment," she said.
The review points to a potential lack proactive communication from the communications teams.
Fitzsimons says a new strategy is not necessary.
"The very best media strategy you can have is doing things well."
Review author Ross Tanner and the council’s chief strategy and governance officer, Stephen McArthur, declined Newstalk ZB's interview requests.
