(00:00):
Mel in the mornings got Kovac onfourteen thirty k A s I get out
there and sing today. That's mytheme for the day. Yeah, just
saying saying to your heart's content.Whoa you know who doesn't want to do
that? If one has the abilities, even if you don't know. No,
I think singing is therapeutic. Ican see that. It's been a
(00:23):
while since I've had to raise myvoice for any occasion. Well can you
sing? No? Well, Imean you can sing. You can sing,
but can you carry a note? No? I'm not that great and
carrying a tune. And I thinkthe biggest part of that, again is
no, no real practice. Where'dyou sing it? Where would I sing?
(00:43):
Yeah? I would assume the showerif I if I could qualify.
You don't have a car? True'sand that's another reason you should bring up
that you should have a car.You have been a place to sing,
Bob. I don't know about myself, but Virginia wasn't a choir as both
an undergrad undergrad student at Iowa State. Yeah, so I think she hasn't
(01:06):
been away with it. She hastalent, yes, and she can ride
the bus to do that if shewere to want it together because I can't
how come I can't picture Virginia breakingout into song on side, right,
I am just having all of them. Yeah, I think that would be
difficult. Yeah, well, no, you could do it, yeah,
but I don't know if the audiencewould be receptive. Yeah, I don't
(01:27):
know if that's a great question theretoo, Yeah, because everybody, you
know, for the most part, people are pretty generous. Maybe you could
take requests. You know what Icould do. I have a little influence
at side, right, Yeah, just a little bit. I'm married to
it's a little stage installed, No, not a stage, but at least
a karaoke machine. Oh, acroaky machine. Don't you think that would
(01:48):
be something that the students would enjoyas they are traversing themselves to class.
Yes, croaking everywhere? Yeah, not croaking, broking. We don't use
that word croaking in front of me, right, Okay, I'm not croaking.
No, no, But then therewould be some entertainment. I always
thought it would be nice if therewere, like the drivers were a little
(02:10):
more radio like. I think we'dget on there's the students are getting I
give a little information. You know, it's going to be a cold day
today, maybe some snow thirty sixdegrees for the high you're cruising at zero
thousand feet. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's just a little problem.
If the oxygen mash dropped from thetop of the bus, we can't explain
(02:31):
why that's necessary, and we don'tknow where they came from, one of
those things. But no, they'refriends. I mean they say hi,
most of them will, not allof them will. And when you say
thank you, which I find rathernice about the student body that ride the
(02:53):
bus, is most of them saythank you to the driver when they get
off. Most of them do,and I do, but that's me.
I'm notoriously known from my manners, high class manners. So yeah, but
most of the drivers will say goodmorning as you get on or or and
(03:15):
when you leave, some even yellow, have a nice day. Yeah,
yeah, I hear that on occasion. Absolutely. Yeah. They don't use
the loudspeaker, just kind of yellit out, yea. Yeah. What
I hear more out of them isplease stand two in line, moved to
the back of the bus, thosethose kinds of things, and you could
(03:39):
see the faces of the students. And I mean this because on some of
the bus's I ride early morning andthey're headed off to class and they're packed
in like sardines. Yeah, Imean, they are already packed in,
and you'll hear the drivers say, please fill in the seats stepped to the
back of the bus, and youcan see on their face that says,
I've already moved as far as Ican. What can I do? But
(04:01):
anyway, Yeah, karaoke, karaoke, karaoke. Do you think I wonder
if my wife would be receptive tothat. Probably not. I don't know
who's who's to say. I mean, I know you might, your wife
might be a huge fan of this. The word stupid might come in,
you know, it frequently does inour conversations. That's stupid, that's stupid.
(04:30):
I have trouble selling my ideas.I don't know. I'm not a
good marketer. I guess you know. I never got the horse cops in
town here. I didn't get theequestrian cops. I didn't get the bagpipe
group. I wanted to play AmazingGrace and things that didn't come to fruition.
You come up with solid ideas, something to improve the community and get
(04:56):
shot down. And yeah, I'llbe honest with these guys a point of
frustration for me. Do you recall, for a few years there was a
gentleman that played the bagpipes on CentralCampus. Yes, I do you remember
that? And I loved it.Yeah, it was it was really cool.
And he would do that in theevenings, yeah, around five o'clock.
Yeah, five o'clock, because I'dbe out catching the bus home and
(05:18):
sitting right there by the library, and he was usually around Central Campus somewhere,
and he would play those bagpipes andit was I don't know, do
you dare you say the outdoor thecampus outdoors there is acoustically sound because it
did sound pretty cool. Yeah, yeah, And I imagine he graduated or
(05:42):
something. I don't know. Iwould have to think, so yeah,
yeah, but I liked it.I would sit out there for those five
o'clock concerts for a while, andsometimes I was mad because the bus came
on time. I want to heara little more. But that goes on.
And there is an officer with theAps Police Department. I can't remember
who it is that plays the bagpipes. They've got at least one. I
(06:04):
don't know if he plays them wellor not, but I'm told he plays
them. Is there any musical instrument, let's say, in your experience that
you wanted to play or learn toplay, gosh or do you play at
musical as I don't. I don'tplay a musical instrument. Yeah, um,
(06:27):
I think fairly recently past the pastfew years, I thought about tacking
up guitar and started picking up guitarlessons, and then I realized, well,
you know that you knew it's goingout. They're not going to be
around much longer. Yeah, justlike the Beatles, right, Yeah,
Yeah, I wanted to play theconcertina. I thought that'd be cool to
(06:50):
play something a little different. Butthe concertina a unique instrument, yeah,
it really is. And never didit, But I don't know why I
didn't try, And I tried everythingelse. I found I could do a
little on the guitar, do verylittle on the banjo, do a little
(07:12):
better on the mandolin. So thosestringed instruments, I would say I was
far from presentable, to be honest, I mean I could get through some
things, but nothing fancy, nothingfancy and harmonica pick that up a little
bit, and the juice harp. But yeah, I wanted to play piano
(07:39):
when I was young, and myfolks couldn't afford lessons or anything for me,
so that went to the wayside. That's probably about it. But that's
that's more than anybody should ever haveto play. Never picked up a wind
instrument of any kind. I alwaysthought I wanted to play either the oboe
or the French horn. To twoinstruments, I really enjoy that sound good.
(08:03):
My son played baritone, he tookbaritone lessons, and my daughter played
piano. And Chris, if Iremember right, was a trombonist and bass
drum in the marching band for Indianola. But but she she was pretty,
(08:24):
I guess pretty. I don't know. I never heard her play, and
I don't think we have a trombonein the house for her to demonstrate for
me, nor would she. Butyeah, I've always music such a big
part of our lives, and that'swhy I say sing everybody can sing.
And you make a great point, not everybody can sing well, but get
(08:48):
yourself a karaoke machine in a bottleof bourbon, and everybody can sing.
Everybody can sing. Have you donekaraoke or karaoke? Yeah? Yeah,
I have um one of those things. I found a Paul Simon song that
I really liked. Um, thisis one of the bars on Welch Avenue
(09:09):
and I went in there with somefriends. We thought we're gonna do some
karaoke and I performed Paul Simon's SlipSiding Away. Oh and boy did people
do that that? That song isso down beat and so yeah, so
bittersweet and sad. That kind ofruined the mood in the bar. Yeah.
(09:30):
A couple of people laugh for you, actually, unfortunately, and no
one, no one evacuated me.So yeah, you know my saying,
it's years ago. When I wasdoing clubs, I was always the last
snact. That way, they didn'tFDL last call, everybody was out of
there. Got everybody head for thedoor, and I will do one more
song, good night, one ofthose six twenty eight. We're gonna do
(09:56):
a break and then we're gonna dothe birthday club. Get those birthdays ready
for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.Mel On the morning it's got Kovac.
You know what I did a naughtylast week? Well, I don't know
you call it naughty, but itwas a mistake last week misinforming on where
the breakfast club was. This morning. Oh no, yeah, I mean
I thought because I've done the showso many years with the City of Aims,
(10:22):
and in years past we alternated betweenelectric and water. But since we
have five weeks this year, Iguess they decided I would do the water
plant, which I did, andthen electric services. So that's an alternating
But now I'm back at electric servicesthis week and then I'll spend the last
(10:45):
two weeks. It's the water plant. Oh yeah, So if you heard
me say water plant this week,it's not. It's an electric services down
by the band show. They're inthe conference room. So please please please
find me, please, I'm nothard to find. I'm right inside drinking
coffee, eating when they call himscones, yeah uh, and talking with
(11:11):
don or whoever. I'll talk tome. And yeah, I had a
good time last week down there, had a lot of guests coming, and
I expect the same today. Boysand Girls Club got a special event going
on at Purse Sale, which Ifind unusual. But I asked, I
said, well, Purse Sale, are you expecting any gentleman there? And
(11:33):
she says, well, we havethe what do they call him, the
messenger messenger bags. There's two onsale sou and that's interesting. That's going
to go on. Of course, the actor's performance over the last weekend was
(11:54):
amazing. Pump Boys and Dinettes iswhat it's called, and it is.
It got a standing ovation. It'sopening night, which is pretty impressive.
And as Stan Raby said, Ican't remember us ever getting a standing ovation,
So this is something to see.And this is I think they got
two more weekends. I'll find outthis morning. Stand'll be there, that's
(12:15):
for sure. Mary Rankin will probablybe in. And so we talk about
College Creek cleanup, and just aroundthe corner another month or so, a
rummis rampage will hit, and sowe get everybody ready for that. And
I don't know whether Kevin will showup. Kevin Burke, he might not
(12:37):
so much for events that are goingon other than a Ragbye Ragbye is drawing
closer all the time, and yougot to make sure that we have all
the volunteers and stuff they need. And I think he's probably close. But
the volunteer situation involves places where thesefolks might camp out or stay or something.
You might donate your backyard or orsomething along that or to help out.
(13:01):
And I was talking to some folksthe other day sent one hundred thousand.
If one hundred thousand people show, and it very well could be.
There's like I think, fifty thousandregistered writers and then one hundred thousand expected
for that right from here to DesMoines, So that means I don't know
whether they're going to come up earlyor what happens there. It'll be interesting
(13:26):
to see. I don't know ifanybody can guess. I was talking to
one of the main street business ownersthe other day the cigar bar over here.
Mister Sprau took me over and broughtme a cigar the other day to
help celebrate my retirement, and Idon't wouldn't call it in his departure.
He's not retiring, but he'll beleaving the station to the same time I
(13:46):
do. But decided we'd have acigar together and sitting talking and as I
sound Scott, it was just oneof the most pleasant conversations he and I
have had. He didn't out atme and I just a good chance for
us to talk something outside of business, was what it was. I learned
(14:07):
a lot more about Dave and hislife and it was good for me and
I smoked a good cigar. Now, I haven't smoked a cigar in ten
twelve years, so and I probablywon't smoke again, but I will tell
you that cigar bar is impressive, very impressive, very comfortable. You feel
like it's a gentleman's club. WellI shouldn't say gentleman's club because there were
(14:30):
no strippers, but nice setting, leather chairs, comfortable, giant humid or.
They built a giant humidor in therewith the cedar and everything there to
keep it in proper humidity. AndNick, who was one of the owners
down there, was so nice andaccommodating, and he was in on our
(14:54):
conversation and I said, butt out, buddy, No, but it's just
a nice atmosphere. And I youmay or may not smoke cigars, but
but I will tell you they've donea good job with it. They've done
a good job with it. Andhe was talking about how they were preparing
main Street for the rag Brye coming, so he was they're excited about it
(15:16):
that he said, I'm not quitesure exactly what's happening. He said,
everything I know right now. It'sgot as excited. Here is a business,
downtown business, so yeah, youknow, and that was kind of
funny. I parked up by WhiskeyRiver on Main Street because we had lunch
there that I was with former generalmanager Carol Kissling, and then Dave was
(15:37):
there and me had a nice lunch. But I parked there, and then
we walked down to the Cigar Bar, which is just through the alley here
about a half block away. Andnow I'm glad I did. Dave just
stayed park here and walked up toWhiskey River, but I had to walk
(15:58):
down to the cigar Bar with Iguess, you know, being seen on
Main Street with them as a littledisgruntling. But but I have to admit,
and maybe I should be a littleashamed of this. I did not
realize how many little businesses are alongthere. There are a lot of them,
there are, yeah, yeah,And I was impressed. I mean
(16:18):
going along there, knitting shop,up books, all kinds of little businesses
in there, that coin and collecting, etc. American Legion, all those
things along there, and I said, my goodness, I didn't realize these
these some of those businesses existed. So main streets healthy right now, very
(16:44):
healthy. I've been on some smalltown main streets that aren't so healthy.
They've got more for lease or forsales science in their downtown shops than they
do names of businesses, and that'snever good, never good. All right,
we need take a break. Wellfor little music in your years,
I said, my theme this morningis sing why not mel in the Morning's
(17:06):
got Kovac here coming up on sixfifty five, coming up on time for
me to make my exit, andScott's going to be in full command of
the ship today. Well, Ididn't see. I have never checked this
place for how many lifeboats we have? I don't know. I do want
to be like the Titanny. Wehave to be ready to launch. Yeah,
(17:30):
women and children out of our way. Yeah, well fortunately there's none
of those, so yeah, wemay be all right. All right.
Electric services for the Breakfast Club thismorning from seven thirty, day thirty.
You're a nonprofit. You didn't getsigned up. I don't care. Go
on down, we'll get jout there. We'll promote your eventement. You deserve
it. You're working hard, you'reoutside in your realm. We will help
(17:52):
you on the Breakfast Club and Aims. Electric services this morning, fourteen thirty
Kasi Captain yours American Pie there withDon McLean. This will be the day
that I die. That's a that'sa pretty intense song. And melo.
Have you heard that one before? What was the name of it? American
(18:14):
Pie and Pie. No, Idon't think that before. It's a long
one. It is a long one. Well we chose that for a reason,
that's right. Yeah? Yeah, did you take your bathroom break there?
Everything is fine, mell. Everythingis okay, very good, very
good. Everything is fine here atElectric Services, sitting here getting caught up
with Haley. I didn't know muchabout her, but now we're friends.
(18:37):
We are friends, and I'm excitedto talk to her. And she'll be
here with miss Rankin and we'll talkabout College Creek clean up coming up during
the show. Are you going tobe cleaning up on that? Do you
know? Scott? You know?I don't um. I had not planned
two here to four, But ifI hear more about it, Yeah,
and the Breakfast claw by I mightmight consider it. Yeah. And one
(19:03):
a reminder to everyone who's who's outthere trying to find the Breakfast Club,
it is not at the Water Pollutionand Control facility on thirteen Streets. It
is, in fact, at theElectric Services Center or the Cowards Conference from
there. Just walk in the doorand you'll see me, and please stay.
That's the thing, you know, walk in the door and see me.
(19:25):
They might turn around walk out.And if you need a landmark,
it's right next to the Bandshell Yeah, just to the east of Bandshell Park.
Yeah. Also a little bit tothe south right. If you look
out, you'll see the KSI vehiclepark just outside the front door. Can't
miss it, No, you can'tbelieve me. And come on in,
(19:45):
Come on in, we'll talk,we'll chat. They've already brought goods.
By the way, those are bakedgoods, Hayley. If you want would
like to have one of them, you are welcome to investigate. We've got
to make sure she's fed. She'sa college student. They didn't eat much.
But I mean here I am backin the studio and other people are
investigating cookies. How did that happen? Cook We don't have cookies. We
(20:07):
have better than cookie. Ye,there's like cupcakes. By the way,
the cupcakes are gluten free. Justto let you know, all right,
And uh, whiever's in that boxand I haven't looked at him. You're
the first one to look in there. Why you think. Look, I
think it might be scones. Thereyou go, lemon blueberry scones. Lemon
blueberry scones. I'm gonna have toeat one for you, Scott, and
(20:29):
I think you're gonna have to.Yeah. I also think you're gonna have
to wrap a napkin around one ofthem and bring it back to get back.
Yeah. Oh, you'll be gonewhen I get done. You out
that door faster than I am,and that's a hard thing to do.
Yeah, chetting out there we go. Yeah, I've said that door.
It's never hit me in the butt. I'm gonna tell you that. I'm
out at boom like a rocket chip. But but anyway, you got a
(20:52):
big weekend ahead of you. Youknow, got some time with my folks
on Sunday. Yea Father's Day.You know that's something we didn't even man,
but Sunday's Father's Day. And andhonestly it gets even better. Yeah,
because if your father has a birthdaythis weekend does yours? Mine doesn't.
But I'm just saying, if someonedid, I see what you're doing.
(21:14):
Transition, Yeah, because yeah,it was. It was sort of
a rough transition. I was kindof grinding the gears there. But I
was going to wish your father ahappy birthday. Oh man, well you
can wish of a happy father's day. I do that automatically, Happy Father's
Day, and uh, don't regretyour mistake. Yeah, very well,
I'm okay, I'm still breathing.Yeah, yeah, there you go,
there you go. But okay, okay, let's talk birthdays. Yeah,
(21:38):
so as far as birthdays go,remember pollution control going on right now.
We've got a weather condition advisory here. So if your dad does have a
birthday this weekend, make sure heblows up the candles in one shot.
Yeah, don't don't want any hyperventilation of this polluted day. Indoors,
Yes, be indoors with really goodAC. Yeah yeah, like converse conditioned
(22:03):
are AC. Slip that in there. I'm thinking about giving out survivors T
shirts because the air quality today. But we'll be all right. I think
we'll I think we'll be fine.Yeah, we'll be fine. A birthday
club, yes, the birthday club. If you have a birthday today,
Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, since Monday is a holiday here Juneteenth,
(22:25):
I believe in and since mel andI will have the day day off.
That means you got to get yourbirthday in now so again today, Saturday,
Sunday or Monday. Give us acall. Five one, five two
three two fourteen thirty is the numberto call to get a name in the
Happy Birthday Club. All you needis to be born on one of those
days, the sixteen, seventeenth, eighteenth, or nineteenth of this month.
(22:48):
And once the name is is enteredin, well we'll see if we can't
draw them out of the hat fora free birthday cake or Bouquia balloons.
Either way, we'll be happy toread the birthday on air. It's that
simple, that's for sure. Iget those birthdays in there. What we
got one right now? We gottwo? Two, got another one.
I let you go. We'll takemore, We'll take more. And I
(23:11):
know there are people born on thosedays, Yes, there are right now.
We know that on Sunday, yeah, Susan Fowls was born on that
date, the eighteenth. And wealso know that on Saturday, yeah,
we have Gene Weaver who was alsoborn there on the seventeen. Did you
(23:32):
say dream Weaver? You know thatmight be an interesting song. No,
Jeane Weaver, but Jeane Weaver.Yeah, that would be a fool tool
song to include at some point.Yeah, I like that song. Do
you like that song? I lovethat song? I do too. I
think there was really a nice mellowsong years ago. And I can hear
it anytime and still be mellow.I can hear it inside of my head.
(23:52):
I can't too, even as wepitched about that mellow mellows with that
an American pyre running through my rightnow. So yeah, you gotta gotta
get them on separate tracks. Youdon't want them to run together. Are
you gonna? Are you really gonnatry and do that sequel to American Pie?
You were calling it? What'd youcall it? National Cake? Yeah
(24:12):
like that? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, No, how's that
going very well? All right?Well let it go all right With that
being said, you know what,we'll dive into news. Then we'll be
back here to the breakfast club atthe Ames Electric Services on fourteen thirty KA
(24:33):
SI. Nowly Mel the morning.I'm fourteen thirty k A s I,
And welcome to the breakfast club whereAimes Electric Services. Having a nice conversation
here this morning, Hayley and Maryand Don and I don't know I kind
of interrupting this program. Are we'rehere having our own little program here and
(25:00):
now we've got to be interrupted bythis radio show. It's it's ridiculous,
I think, but we'll do itanyway. And we're getting guests in here,
which are nice. Don come outover here, and let's you and
I chat first about I assume there'sthings going on with electric services. There
always seems to be, and itis a what is it rapid growing?
(25:23):
Can we say rapid growing science?Would that be a way to go?
Electric services works a lot with science. Oh, there's a lot of new
technologies that are happening out there.Nothing that we're directly involved in. Is
that something new is as they're lookingat new nuclear power plants and it's something
that they're trying out in Montana rightnow. And it's supposed to be a
very safe design. It's very frommany standpoints, it's environmentally friendly, and
(25:48):
it's one of those baseload type generationthat I think is gonna if you if
you marry it up with wind andsolar, I think it's gonna really be
the way of the future. That'sour next expectation. Because you guys are
always on the cutting edge, soyou'll probably be right there when it happens.
We're not on that far cutting edge. No no, no, no,
(26:10):
no no. We're gonna let somebodydo building the first unit all the
way to the hundredth unit and thenwe'll we'll see how it's going. But
we do love wind and solar. We're actually looking at a couple of projects
here in the state of Iowa thatwill bring more green energy to Aims.
We already have a small solar farma little bit over by Kolo and Zering,
(26:30):
and we have a excuse me,we have a solar farm down by
the airport, and we have awind farm project over by Kolo and Zeroing,
and we want to probably quadruple that. We want a lot more wind
in our portfolio, and it's gonnait's gonna turn on our energy more and
more green. Well, I won'tbe surprised what goes on here. Do
(26:52):
you think the what do I wantto call it? Do you think the
old idea, especially when you talknuclear of any thing? You know,
there's three Mile Island years ago, which was so tragic, And we certainly
don't want Chernobyl and we certainly don'twant college Creek Island coming here to name,
so you know they're doing a lotto clean it up. We don't
(27:15):
want to dirt it up. Butyeah, it sounds like that there's a
different, different light on nuclear energynow because it is becoming much safer.
Is that a hard sell? Ithink for some people I mean that that
have been around that remember Three MileIsland. I mean they're still talking about
the tragedy at Chernobyl and the impactsthat that had on the local area and
(27:40):
the people and the environment there. We can only do it if we can
do it safe and if we cando it without harming the environment. And
I think that's the that's the trickwith a lot of the electric generation.
I mean they're even talking about, you know, lithium ion batteries and some
of the problems that come about withmining that. So there's always some cost
(28:03):
and benefits. You got to lookat both of them and make sure that
the entire process from beginning ends assafe as it can be. So can
we say the new energy would besomewhere down the road. For here,
we'll definitely have new energy in termsof wind and solar. I can't tell
you when we as the city ofams will start looking at nuclear, but
(28:25):
definitely wind and solar, and wecontinue to burn refuse to drive fuel,
which is the county's garbage, whichwe still believe that that is an environmentally
sustainable way of dealing with people's waste, rather than putting it into a landfill.
Of course, we would prefer ifyou look at the hierarchy of the
Environmental Protection Agency, we'd prefer thatyou reuse it. And we can get
(28:49):
into rummage, rampage and things likethat that are coming up, but a
reuse of a product is far bettereven than burning it, and it's definitely
better than putting it into the ground. Absolutely well done. It's always thanks
for taking some time with me rightaway here this morning. Who's going to
be your dedicated speaker later? Doyou know yet? Well, it might
be me. I do have oneother thing. There's a project that the
(29:11):
fire or the police department's looking atall right, and it has to do
with street lights and safety. Andif I get it right, it's called
maximizing electric lighting volume in the nighttimeor Melvin, Yeah, I thought it.
Maybe it was burning perpetrators, butanyway, all right, well I
(29:34):
like the name, you know,it's got to be a goal, it's
got to be a success. Butanyway, all right, my friend,
we'll catch up in a little bit. All right, I need to catch
up. Speaking of the LAPD,did we get a rush call this morning?
We did? Indeed, we haveCommander Jason Tuttle on the line.
What yeah, hey, mel HeyJason. How are you? Ladies and
(29:56):
gentlemen? Good the lap Lovely AimesPolice Department, Commander Jason Tuttle. Jason,
First of all, may I saycongratulations on your Valor award? Oh,
thank you. Appreciate that, No, well deserved. We appreciate what
you do each and every day,not just for the Valor award, but
anyway, it's nice to talk toyou. How'd I get you today?
(30:18):
I mean, I'm pulling strength, well, I said, Man Mill is
my favorite, one of my favoriteguys in the world in the radio,
so I should just you know, call in and talk to him. Mark
got busy on a priority call,so yeah, he called in asked me
to give you a call. Youknow what, I deeply appreciate. I
couldn't think of a better person toput on air. And anyway, how
are we looking out there? Yeah, we're looking we're looking good as usual.
(30:41):
I'm sure they've talked about now. There's a lot of road construction around,
but we do have some we dohave a lot of events this weekend
for the department in the community. But we're doing Donuts in the park this
morning at the Miracle Park from eightthirty to ten thirty. Oh, so
feel free to come out no matterhow old you are. We'll have some
ownus and we'll play on the playgroundand maybe get a kickball game or something
(31:04):
going. If we can do thatthis morning, that's me. I love
the program, I really do.And um, if there's one thing I
really feel our department excels at iscommunity relations and beyond the beyond the tickets,
if you know what I mean, out there very tangible, very touchable,
(31:25):
very human like. Uh because theyare. Uh is it just terrific?
I don't. I can't think ofthe department that works harder than you
guys do at well don saying theydo here at the Electric Services. But
they do agree job. Yeah,as have any of their workers been released?
No, Yeah, we just havesoup. A couple of them long,
(31:47):
yeah, a couple of them likeup okay. Uh, But anyway,
I just want to congratulate you andJeff and and Dan and all the
officers, et cetera for they talkto me. It's in the morning.
I mean, when you get somebodypulling up in a car in this day
and age at three in the morningyelling hey peg, you know, you're
(32:08):
not quite sure how they're gonna comeback on that. But it's been nice
for me. And I've had anopportunity because a lot of the overnight officers
are new officers and we've had ayou know, a few minutes to get
acquainted, and I deeply appreciate it. We're in good hands. We have
great people here now. We're asalways though, we're looking for more great
people to work for our department forthe city. So don't forget that.
(32:30):
We're still taking we'll be taking applicationsagain soon. But yeah. We also
tomorrow mal is to go along withconnecting with the community Juneteenth celebrations tomorrow Banshell
from noon to four thirty. We'llhave officers there for that, and they're
also having a movie night at RooseveltPark tonight at eight pm. I did
not know that. What's a movie? I think it's Black Panther two.
(32:52):
Ooh I like that movie. Yes, so yeah, great opportunity again to
get out and meet your neighbors, meet some officers, just continue to connect
with us people in our great community. All right, Well, thank you
sir for give me a shout out, and again congratulations on your award and
just one of many. I'm sureare going to be stacking up down the
(33:15):
road for you, my friend.I don't know about that, but now
I appreciate that. Malill you.Hope you and her brails have a safe
weekend. All right, Thanks Jason, but talk to you soon. All
right, bye bye. And thatis Commander Jason Tuttle of the LAPD Lovely
Aimes Police Department bringing us our rushmanistreport. And that's brought to you by
Mary Greeley Medical Center doing what's right. Are you ready? They're ready for
(33:38):
you, mal in the morning.I'm fourteen thirty k s. I Come
on, Mary, you can doit, Come on, give it a
shot. There. Oh, hereshe comes. She's across the table from
me, and her and Haley arehere, one on each side, so
surrounded by beauty. I'm I'm alucky guy. Right now. There we
(34:00):
go, There we go. Butanyway, Mary, welcome back, and
you bring Haley and this first timeI meant, Haley, I know I
have such incredible team members. We'regoing to get them all in this month,
so you'll get to meet all ofthem. I'm alright with that.
I'm alright with that. And Haley, how's working with Mary? Ben It's
been really good learning anything? Yeah, I am. Actually you know how
(34:23):
why would I expect that Haley wouldgo, oh, she's awful, she's
a witch. She just oh god, it's been it's been hell. Mal
I just you know one of thosethings I always put the poor students on
the spot, don't I you do. Indeed, you know what, I
have no doubt what they tell me. It's the truth. Because I've known
you for so many years, andI could easily work with you. Oh
(34:44):
well, that would be a pleasure. Malah. I hear you'll be looking
for things to do, so I'malways looking for something to do, that's
for sure. But if I waslooking for something to do next weekend,
I bet I could find something throughyou. College Creek Cleanup is come right
up. We are within just overa week of the event June twenty fourth,
(35:06):
and I'll tell you what. We'retrying to get people together, get
volunteers. How's the volunteer going. Are they getting registered? They are getting
registered. We've got a nice groupof volunteers registered still room four. More
So, we encourage folks to takea look at our website Live Green dot
Iastate dot edu. There's information therefor the College Creek cleanup, also the
(35:27):
opportunity to go ahead and register onlineto make sure we have plenty of supplies,
which includes some wonderful donations from areabusinesses, including some refreshments for our
volunteers. And I've kind to givea big shout out to Jimmy John's on
South Duck because he's etc. AlsoHivan Fairway for helping sustain our volunteers during
their volunteer time. Well, Hailey, that being said, have you ever
(35:51):
participated anything like College Creek Cleanup?I actually did earlier this year in about
and I think April. I wentwith the Green Umbrella and it was really
interesting to see everything that was likein the creek. It was good,
it was good to clean up everythingto see the difference that we made,
and I'm really excited to do itagain. Yeah, and I think it's
(36:12):
interesting because Hayley's on our way tobeing an attorney general or something along those
way. But kind of this kindof side tracks you into something that did
you know you had an interest in? Well? I did. I've always
really been interested in the environment.Doing the Creek is something that I had
never really thought about doing before, but now that the opportunity is here,
(36:35):
I'm excited to experience it. Ithink your generation is more conscious of the
environment. Yeah, definitely. Allright. Well, as you say,
you get some good people out therewho have You're a good mentor that hopefully
through you will be continue to beenvironmentally strong and think about it often.
(36:58):
And I think it's true with theyounger people. Oh my goodness, I
do too. I'm continually inspired, continually challenged in a good way to do
the best I can and be thebest professional and the best mentor that I
can too. But that energy isintoxicating. Yeah, it comes back threefold,
good night, Oh my goodness, threefold, fivefold, tenfold, depending
(37:21):
upon the day in the project.Absolutely. All right, Well again,
let's tell everybody how to get registered. Get registered, go to the Live
green website, Live Green, DotIa, State, Ditty du and just
a reminder June twenty fourth, tenam to two pm. But anytime that
you can come drop in will beappreciated. It's not just cleaning up the
creek, it's also removing garlic mustardas well, and we just look forward
(37:44):
to everyone coming and assisting and makingthat incredible difference recommending movement. It's always
Mary. Thanks for being here. Now in the morning, we're coming back
to Age Electric Services. We're thesecond half of the Breakfast Bob, which
will be environmentally safe for you toreturn to mel in the morning. I'm
fourteen thirty Kasi. Welcome back tothe Breakfast Club. Here. Let's see
(38:09):
now, Rachel, it's you. It's Rachel. You beat stand to the
signature plate here. Yeah, thereyou go. But anyway, welcome back.
By the way, it's good tohave you here. Thank you.
I had a lot of fun lasttime. I thought i'd come see you
again, taking chances rolling the dicethat it might be two fun times.
But but anyway, I thought itwas interesting the event that you've got coming
(38:35):
up for the Boys and Girls Clubof Story County, and why don't you
talk about that a little bit again. I was actually talking this morning about
it before I got here, soI was, well, you say it
first, then I'll supplement. We'rereally excited. So before you go to
creep clean up next Saturday, potby for our person auction. It's UM
(39:01):
nine to eleven am. It willhave brand name purses, UM gently used
and some new and it's you know, an auction to raise funds for our
kids. Yeah, and I saidthe nice thing about it, it's like
jokingly last week said have you gotany man purses? And then you humiliated
(39:24):
me by saying we do have somethingthat men would want. And my partner
Scott back in the station always remembersalways forget. But I think they're called
messenger bags, is that right?Yeah, Yeah, we actually have a
Gucci messenger bag. It is verymanly and you know, will hold a
(39:46):
lot of things and lip balm andwhatever else. We carry deodorant and our
razors. Yeah, yeah, thosethose kinds of things. Now, I
do you have a limited number?That's I'm I know, I'm asking,
but I would think that that mightbe a limited item. Yeah. So
(40:07):
we have seventy five spots. Wehave a handful of guests signed up already,
but you just have to RSVP tomy email. UM, so if
there's more information on our website atbgcstory dot org. Um, there's an
event link and you can find myemail through there as well. But yeah,
it'll be fun brunch with the galsor guys. We have a few
(40:28):
couples coming to and we're picking upthe mimosa tabs, so that's kind of
fun as well. That's all Igot to say. You're picking up the
tab and then you know you're you'reloaded, literally, but along those lines,
and that's I guess that's the thingI was trying to emphasize because when
you said we're having a purse auction, I'm thinking, well, of them,
maybe the guys won't be so anxiousto come, but knowing that there
(40:52):
will be something out there for them, should cash their interest and you know,
go along with the wives if ifthey're going along, and let's find
out what this is and it's fora good cause for the Boys and Girls
Club, that's a great way togo. Now, is there anything besides
the purse auction happening and people gettingtrunk on mimosas? So there's going to
(41:16):
be a photo booth. We're rafflingthings from local businesses, so we have
a one hour massage from Massage Heights. I think we talked about the scenic
air ride with the airport, whichis really cool. I didn't realize our
airport was so hopping until our flyin, and I learned so much from
(41:38):
them. And yeah, so wejust a preview a little bit. We
do have a couple new purses tobe exact, and the Pile family,
I don't know if you know them, but the Pile family, the Killippers
and the Kinselers put together this package. So it's a new Mono Duffel bag
(42:01):
and it's beautiful. And they alsohave five hundred dollars to Southwest Airlines and
two fifty two Airbnb. So that'sa weekend trip for you right there.
Yeah, a lot of people payto get me out of town. I
won't even have to buy it,you know. But these are great,
great items that are up there. But the best thing of all is the
(42:27):
fact that you're supporting the Boys andGirls Club and the amount of service that
it gives to this community and it'syoung people and continues to expand with their
programs and quite frankly, as youand I have talked about, with your
needs, yeah, absolutely. Thankyou for saying that. We started summer
club this week. Actually it's beenreally exciting. So we're all day club
(42:51):
seven thirty to five thirty. Weserve a meal and snacks throughout the day,
and yesterday we had an rig dayso they used our kids out and
we had inflatables and snow cones andit was so fun. Yeah, and
I was gonna say, now,is the camp full because I know you
have limited space. Yes, sowe Actually it's a bittersweet problem to have.
(43:15):
We have a wait list at bothof our sites this year, unfortunately,
but we're you know, ournovative programas big as ever. So I
think they had forty ish kids averagingthis week, which is crazy compared to
a few years ago. But you'retelling me no fat kids, right,
(43:35):
Well, I wouldn't say that goodwait good waiting, but the wait list
okay, I didn't know what thatman. So but anyway, again,
let's get the day of the auctionand location. Sure, it's at Ames
Golfing Country Club, Saturday, Junetwenty fourth, nine to eleven AM.
Check in is nine to nine thirtyand we'll have a good time. Sounds
(44:00):
great, Rachel, Thank you forcoming in thanks. Now, gosh,
discrimination I was a fat kid,you know. Oh it's awful. But
anyway, tell you what is awful. We got to take another break.
That's not awful, that's nice. And then the ever popular, the ever
ever vessant Stan Raby will join us. We're gonna find out more about what's
(44:22):
going on at Actors. I'm melin the morning, mel on the morning,
I'm fourteen thirty. Kay. Yes, I good to have you on
board here at the Breakfast Club whereat Ain's Electric Services. In joining me
as he does frequently and for goodreason, is Stan Rayby from Actors.
(44:42):
And we have been talking about standingovations, and you got more than one
last weekend. Yeah, two outof three shows last night we had people
standing and applauding wildly, and itwas so much fun because the cast had
a great time. Because the casthad a great time, the audience was
having fun, and we had wehave something we call pickup rehearsal before the
weekend of shows just to freshen thelines and the music and everything in the
(45:07):
performer's brains. And they were havingso much fun that Susan and I,
the directors, we stood for thembecause we just thought they were fabulous.
It's just it is just more funthan a barrel of monkeys. So um,
it was just it's great, Itell you now, and now it's
a good time because they're that praisefor a while, I know, and
(45:27):
hopefully you won't for a long timeagain in the future. Oh I think
I will. You'll be around andI know that's gonna come out again.
I was just gonna say, Ihave only witnessed one standing ovation, and
that's whenever stand comes in a room. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but
it's also a standing ovation. Moneyleaves, so I don't know what that
(45:49):
indicates, right, that's true. That's just as many people are glad to
see me go Is come in.But you know, we have performances tonight
and tomorrow night. Tonight's Formans isalmost sold out. I think we've got
about a handful of seats left, and tomorrow night is still pretty wide open.
We have about twenty seats left fortomorrow night and then next weekend.
(46:12):
So audiences have And the other thingis, it's like we always say,
oh, come and see it again. A lot of people are seeing this
twice. I'm amazed at the numberof people who have said you know what.
I liked it so much and it'snot anything that you hear other places,
and so they're coming and seeing ita second time. So yeah,
consider that. And it's a greatshow to bring friends too. It's family
(46:37):
oriented. I mean, you canbring kids to this and it's just it's
a great time pump boys and dynets. It was on Broadway in the nineteen
eighties. Holy cow, was therecivilization then? And who knew that there
was Broadway back then? It's youknow, but you know, it's just
it is just so much fun.So people shouldn't pass up this opportunity to
(47:00):
have a great time. Actor shouldhave done this show thirty five years ago,
and we never did, And youknow, I'm kind of glad that
we didn't, because we've got thebest of talent. We've got Tom Box
and Emil Polatic and Mark fourb Usand Reggie green Law and Julie may Not
(47:23):
and then our token young person isCaleb Roberson. And then we've got a
guy who did the show twenty fiveyears ago up in Emmetsburg, Tim Burvin,
and a lady who did the showtwenty years ago in Cherokee. Liked
that so much she's doing it againand her name is Amy McGrew. So
(47:44):
we've got a fabulous cast, someof the best talent names doing some of
the best best music on a greatset. Vintage pickers helped us decorate the
set. It is fabulous and fabulouscostumes. Susan Barry helped us so the
net outfits. It's just it isa good show all the way around.
And if you like the contassis wehave, they at intermission they say,
(48:08):
go get some pie and some booze. Well, we have the contassis for
sale. So everything's good. Everythingis good, And don't miss this opportunity.
I will say this without any qualmsthat this will be a unique opportunity
to see pump Boys and Zynis.I don't know when it will be available
(48:30):
again, but don't miss it thistime, and then buy your season tickets
because this, these, I shouldsay, are the kind of performances you
can expect each and every time.Yeah, And I tell you what's nice
about this show and the next seasonis they are approachable by so many people.
(48:52):
I mean, it's just it's gotvery wide appeal. So come on
out, support actors, support yourcommunity, because we are a unity theater
and it's a great thing. Theycan get tickets at Actorsinc. Dot org.
There's an icon there, or theycan click on the Pump Boys and
Dinet's icon that will take them tothe ticket site. They can go to
(49:13):
Alpha Copies in West Dames, orif you're a First Point member, you
can go to First National Bank. And performances are tonight and tomorrow night.
Tonight is almost sold out, andTomorrow night there are a few more seats,
and then next weekend, Friday andSaturday nights are still wide open,
and then Sunday matinee is almost soldout. Step up early, they'll be
(49:34):
sold out. They'll get their wordis out and it continues to go.
Plus these repeat folks that are goingback to enjoy themselves even more. Ston
I tell you, I am really, I mean like, I love the
show. I've loved the show forforty years. I saw it in Washington
See when I lived there, andI've been wanting to do it ever since.
So for me to get to dothe show is such a neat experience.
(49:55):
But I am just so impressed theway the number of p people who
have not didn't know the show orI was on the phone yesterday. Yeah,
we saw the show in Chicago tenyears ago and wanted to see it
again. So I mean that's thekind of show that it is. All
Right, Pomboys and Dinats this weekendand next weekend out at Actors, make
(50:16):
sure that you get there. Stanas always, thanks my friend, Thank
you. Mel Betcha. All right, we're gonna take a break, get
you some news, then we'll comeback and we'll talk with somebody from Ames
Electric Services. Mel in the morning, I'm fourteen thirty k A s I
welcome back to our last segment ofthe Breakfast Club this morning. And Joe's
(50:40):
here from the Ames Jac's and youknow what, It's Friday, which means
tonight, Aims on the Halfshell isgoing to take off and Joe, good
lineup tonight. Yep. We gotthe Cherry Pickers coming, so they've come
before fifty sixty, seventy. They'rebranching out into seventies, eighties and nineties
(51:02):
music, so very good band. We've got the Hivy Chinese Truck coming out.
We've got Sandwich Studio again who wasthere last week. It's gonna be
a great, great event. Yeah, and as we say, all you
need start your weekend. You don'teven have to go home fix supper.
You grab yourself a bite to eat, you can grab yourself a libation.
(51:22):
You can hear some great music, you can dance your legs off, you
can just go around and talk withfolks, have a great time out there.
It's all happening, and it's courtesyof the Ames Jacs who have put
on I don't know how you havekept the cost so low, Joe,
I don't either. I just joinedthis march and they do a great,
(51:42):
great job. Yeah, and I'lltell you what you can bring the whole
family if you want to. Now, there is a little bit of a
qualification. Kids must have a guardianor a parent with them, So don't
be dropping the kids off and expectthat jay Z's to babysit, all right,
that'd be that would be your mistake. But I love it because everybody
is so dark gone friendly. Justthe atmosphere puts you in that mood,
(52:05):
doesn't it. Yes, it's agreat always a great atmosphere. Everyone comes
out to have fun, people willget up in dance, strangers meet,
new friendships are formed. It's agreat time. It absolutely is. I
was going to ask you now, who's who's up next week for entertainment.
Next week we have the Burning Sensations. It's my favorite group. I just
love the name Burning Sensations. Theyalways scared us when we were young.
(52:30):
But anyway, come on out. They are perennial. They are there every
year and there's a reason for thatis they're so popular and they bring such
a great group with them. They'vegot a great group of followers that come
out and the entertainment already this yearhas been superb. Tonight will be no
different with the Terry Pickers. Yep, it's a very energetic band, great
(52:52):
band. They've bringing a lot ofa lot of fans, so we hope,
we hope to see a lot ofpeople tonight. I know it's gonna
be a little bit warm, butthey'll make up for it well. And
I will tell you this much.Don't bring your lighters. We don't.
The lighters are pass now and itisn't dark anyway. But you hold up
your cell phones now I think theytell you, oh absolutely, yeah,
(53:13):
there's apps that you can do aflame on your phone. Yeah, it'll
be a mosh pit. Probably notthat might be a little bit dangerous.
Absolutely. If you want to seea crowd separate, watch me drop backwards
into it. Oh, they willflock towards you to save you. Now,
there we go, there we go. We'll tell you what. Let's
(53:34):
help the jc's tonight as they arehelping us enjoy ourselves, get our weekend
started off right, And it's allhappening at Bandshell Park beginning at five pm.
All right, five pm goes toeight pm. I cost to get
in? Is it five dollars? Now? It is five dollars. Children
twelve and under are free. I'llput my shoes on my knees and try
(53:55):
and walk in. We'll do that. But anyway, it's all worth It
goes for a great cause. It'sall for the aims JAYCS, and I
want to encourage you who are youngerwho have not joined a fraternal organization or
any kind of situation where you canget to know a lot of people from
different walks of life. They're allworking towards the same cause. It's the
(54:19):
aims JAYCS And how can they findout more? Joe, this is aimes
JACS dot com and send us anemail. Sounds great, Joe, Thanks
for coming in anytime. Always apleasure, My pleasure believed me. All
right, Mary, Mary, it'sgood. It's nice to know that you
and Stan aren't still you're working onplans, I mean, getting ready and
(54:39):
something that we do not want tobe remiss in and keeping top of mind
for you. Even though we're alittle ways away. Some of you are
out there wondering what can I do? I want to partake in romage,
rampage, how do I do it? I have things I need to get
there. Yeah, that's such agood point, and we're having a lot
of doing that spring summer cleaning out. We have a lot of folks that
(55:04):
are leaving our community as they havenew opportunities, whether they're students or other
professionals, and say, I havethings, but I need to get rid
of it now. So we havea couple of options for you. Actually,
one option for right now, andthat one option for right now is
to load up your car, loadup your truck and come to Resource Recovery.
You can go through the car lineten dollars per car load or fifteen
(55:29):
dollars per I think it's fifteen.Hold on, let me look twenty five
for truck load. WHOA, thatwas close there, but in paying that
amount, Resource Recovery will store ouritems and transport them to the event.
So your items can be donated forfrom a DRAM page even if you're not
here to don it, yes, exactly at this point, anytime now forward.
(55:49):
And then also to let folks knowif they're worried about trying to haul
things, they don't necessarily have theability to haul things, they don't need
it right now, but they'd liketo donate it to the event. We
will be having event pick up opportunitiesfrom your residence and that cost if you
can get it out to the curbor right inside your garage, it'll be
fifteen dollars if you're an Iowa Statestudent, or twenty five dollars if you
(56:13):
are not an Iowa State student, and a little bit more if we need
to come into your home. We'reworking with Iowa Home Consulting to provide that,
and we do have a link onthe RAMA Rampage website noting these different
options. And also then where youcan go to sign up right now to
have a pickup before the event, and that's City of Ams dot org.
(56:35):
And then search for RAMA Drampage. All right, man, thanks so much,
Thank you, Mel my pleasure. All right, we're gonna take a
quick break, then we'll come back. Joel's going to join me and we'll
close it off at AIMS Electric Servicesmel in the morning of fourteen thirty K
Yes, I welcome to the lastsegment of the Breakfast Club. And Joel
joins me, and gosh, yougave me choices today. That's right.
(57:01):
I thought you might pick what wewant to talk about, but uh,
you said maybe cars. So electricvehicles is what we're going to discuss today,
and how we are at Eam's ElectricUtility helping folks charge at home,
charge at their businesses, in chargearound town as well. Now you see
charge at home, are you disseminatingthem like information on how they should set
(57:29):
up that whole home charger? Butwe've got more than just information. We've
got a rebate if you install alevel two charger in your homer, garage
or whatever wherever you put it.We have a rebate for home chargers of
up to five hundred dollars up tohalf the cost, so that might cover
even more than the cost of thecharger itself. But we raised that amount
because we were seeing sometimes it's alittle expensive to get those things installed and
(57:52):
pull that wire. It just reallydepends on your home setup. Sometimes it's
really easy to put it an outletin your garage, it's sort of like
a two forty volt like a dryeroutlet. But sometimes you got to pull
a wire from all the way acrossyour house, and they can get kind
of spending. So your situation mayvary. Yeah, exactly right. But
Joe, are we finding more andmore people? I mean, is this
(58:15):
I feel dumb saying, is thiscatch are gone? Well, it obviously
is, and I think part ofthat is because they're becoming more efficient.
I wish I could say they're lesscostly, these electric cars. Well,
you know, I think there's alot of reason. I mean, obviously
the people are looking at cost savingson the fuel and thinking about what the
(58:37):
good thing they can do for theenvironment. I think that's important for a
lot of folks. There's some costsavings there that can help offset the slight
increase in that you were going topay over a versus another new car.
But a lot of new cars areexpensive these days. I mean even I
don't know. I'm not in themarket for a new car myself, but
looking at what the used options mightbe. And but yeah, they're a
(59:00):
lot of fun to drive, eventhe base model. I mean, the
City has a Chevy Bolt which isnot a sports car, and that's got
a lot of good pickup that canget going pretty quickly from the stop sign.
I was I was just thinking aboutthat too, because I think people's
idea is that these are slugs. These are slugs in the vehicle department.
(59:21):
They just don't have any horsepower oranything. And you know, I'm a
sporty guy, so I need Istill need to have that combustion engine.
But that's not true. Well,if you like the loud roar, that's
one thing. I don't think we'reever going to get rid of our collector
cars. But no, the electricvehicles, I think all of them,
(59:42):
maybe without any exceptions, have alot ago, especially from getting started at
from zero. That's just they haveinstant torque that takes off and you can
really feel that pushback in your seatif you if you're not careful. We'll
have some racing going on on ourstreets there going you know, the old
drag race as we used to have. I'll leave that to the police tool
(01:00:02):
to worry about. Yeah, Ialways think about that, but I know
I have not had the opportunity yet, but I will avail myself of it
as soon as I now. Wait, I got to take that back.
I did have a gentleman all forme a chance to drive his car,
and I my schedule did not allowme to take him up on it.
(01:00:24):
But I know in past years,I think it was last year, there
were some electric vehicles down at Farmer'sMarket. Do you know of any plans
to do that again? Yep.I don't have details to give to you
yet, but we are working onwith some with some car manufacturers to have
(01:00:45):
some evs available for test drive atthe Farmer's Market, So keep your eyes
peeled for that. We'll announce itwhen we've got details finalized. Sounds great,
and we do want to remind youthat they have added to the charging
stations available to the public here. That's right, added three new charging stations
at the beginning of the month, one at Mary Greeley, one near downtown
(01:01:06):
and the kind of the back parkinglot there by Wells Fargo Bank, and
one at the city parking lot acrossthe street from the library. So I
think that brings our toll to eightlocations throughout town now where we have city
owned chargers. All but one ofthose are level two chargers, which might
be comparable to what you have inyour home charging. But then we have
(01:01:27):
the fast charger down at the Comeand go on the Dayton exit. Gate's
been able to survey as to howmuch usees have been getting. They get
a good bit of use. Yeah, you know, we sell I like,
just as a reference, about everymonth, we sell about as much
energy as a home uses in ayear, right, you know, so
(01:01:49):
you know, obviously we're going tosee that grow. We're really much wanting
to be out in front so thatpeople know that there's an easy and convenient
way to charge their vehicles outside ofjust their homes. So we've tried to
put them throughout town and places thatthey get used, and we expect them
that we'll get used in the future. We've built a lot of these sites
with the ability to add another chargingstation at them in the future, but
(01:02:10):
haven't seen the need to expand anyof these particular sites just yet. All
right, Joel, thank you somuch, And we did. We talked
cards man. We didn't have totalk of what was our other subject.
Was it appliances? Oh yeah, home appliances. You know we do have
energy Star rebates for Energy Star appliances. If you go to City Games dot
org slash smart Energy, it willpay you. It literally pay you to
(01:02:35):
check these things out. And wethank Joel for taking some time with a
zisappointing. We will be at thewater treatment plant next week with the Breakfast
Club, so we hope that you'lljoin us there. If you have an
inkling, this is something that youwant to do that you are a fraternal
group, you are a nonprofit agency, you have an event coming up that
(01:02:57):
you'd like to put out there onthe airwaves, be glad to help you
do it. Just come on outat the Breakfast Club. You can email
me at Mel Crippen cri Ippe nat fourteen thirty KASI dot com and we
get y'all scheduled up and let youknow where we're gonna be. We don't
really hide from you and we justchange every month. So water Treatment Plan
(01:03:19):
next week on thirteenth Street for theBreakfast Club. Scott, Yes, sir,
are we break free? Now?We are indeed break free. Do
you want to hear the Eyball AlmanacI would love to. Let's do that
and we'll jump right on back tothe power plant. How does that sound,
sir? It sounds good. Thanks. Mel in the morning, I'm
fourteen thirty k a sign, justgonna wind out the hour here and Scott,
(01:03:45):
anything on your mind. You know, there is a new development as
far as that song goes. Idon't know if you've heard about this,
mel, Yeah, but there's asong that John Lennon composed and then hat
on piano and also on guitar. He was unfinished and it was on a
cassette tape. This was would havebeen nineteen seventy eight. Yeah, and
(01:04:11):
apparently Paul McCartney wants to bring itback to life and release it as the
Beatles last song. Yeah. AndI find that fascinating. Apparently he's using
artificial intelligence or someone who working forhim is to strip out and isolate Lennon's
voice and the piano. Yeah.I find that fascinating. And of course
(01:04:32):
this is something that this deep faketechnology is applied all over the place,
but here is one instance where AIis really helping out an original singer songwriter,
slash band slash. I'm just Idon't know how to handle AI.
To be honest. I mean,I've been blessed with artificial intelligence all my
(01:04:57):
life. Hell, come on,Mel, we know it's real. Yeah,
but I really it's fascinating. There'sso many people out there worried to
go check over the earth and youknow, things like that. I always
try to remind people, although it'sartificial intelligence, that there is human intelligence
(01:05:18):
behind it, yes, and guidingit. Right, So don't be afraid
of that. I'll tell you what, Scott, have a nice June tea,
Yes, indeed, you as warmmelt, and I'll see you next
Wednesday. All right, all rightfor Scott Kovac mel in the morning,
and for the Intellectric services, goout, have a great weekend.
