(00:00):
Oh there you go. That's long, intense, smooth like butter. That's
the name of it. Anyway,I kind of liked it. Bouncy,
good way to wake up your morning. Here as we prepare for the weekend,
are you ready for the weekend?I am ready for the weekend?
Mo. Yeah's gonna be a shortone, only two days, another one
of those. Yeah for a while, Okay, for a while until Juneteenth

(00:22):
comes up. Juneteenth and next holidayfor us. But anyway, I hope
you got a good weekend planned.Could be a little bit wet starting tonight,
maybe into early tomorrow morning, thenit should straighten out give you a
pretty good week. I am pleased. I must say, I am pleased
because Mother Nature's helping me with mysuccess as a gardener, because the rains,

(00:51):
etc. And I looked at mygarden this morning and it is prospering.
And I don't know is it correctto say growing like a weed.
I don't think so. I supposeit all depends on how much you are
burning. Yeah, well I'm notgrowing weed, by the way, just
unless you know. It's not legalhere yet. But anyway, Yeah,

(01:11):
the tomato plants are looking good. The pepper plants are looking good. My
wife stuck a couple of things, and I have no idea what they are.
Am I doing good, They're doinggood. Everything's doing good. That's
the nice thing about it. AndI haven't had to go around since Chris
is out of town watering her plantsoutside pretty much lighting Nature handle it.

(01:33):
And it looks like nature will takecare of it again late tonight early tomorrow
morning. And as I say,the rains are coming at the right time.
They're not evaporating. They're having achance to soak in a little bit
coming in those early morning hours. But yeah, so you get a little
rain tomorrow morning, don't let itdampen your trip to the farmer's market.

(01:53):
It will still go on. Justbring an umbrella and hopefully maybe it will
cease and desist by the time youcome down. A great way to start
your weekend, a little fun withcommunity. Then I love it. I
mean, the kids are down theirchalk drawing, the buskers are out doing
their thing with music, and thevendors are having a good time. I

(02:17):
like the fact that the vendors, because there's the local and a part of
the community, are more than willingto have a conversation with you, Chris
and I in the past years. She says, oh, I want to
buy that. I wonder I wonderwhat that is or how you prepare it,

(02:37):
And she can always ask that vendorListen, I've never bought this before,
but it looks interesting. How doyou prepare that? Or how do
you use that? And they alwayshave time to say, well, listen,
here's how I do it, andit's it's very very helpful. Yeah.
And one of the things I absolutelylove about going through the farmer's market

(03:00):
is there is no real pressure tobuy. No, there's not. They're
not. If you're talking, they'regood. Yeah. If you go into
a little let's say, a littlepop they're all pop up tents for the
most part, right, Yeah, but a little awning there, step up
there and and ask about a product. Uh, it's not. It's never

(03:20):
something that's that's forced upon you byany of the vendors. Or if you
just want to have a conversation, yeah, you know you can. I
mean, I you know, you'reyou're like a former President Trump. No,
I wouldn't have that conversation, butI mean, you know, just
everyday conversation, how are you, how's your family, what's going on?
You know, Um, you canhave that and anywhere along the street there

(03:44):
you can bring your bow wow withyou. Anyway, anyway, you can
bring your doggie down and it canmeet other dogies. I don't think they'll
allow meeting rituals out there on mainstreet, but uh, you know,
and hopefully you've got a dog thatgets along. I haven't in the times
that I've been down, I haven'tseen any dog fights of you. No,

(04:04):
no, I think everybody pretty wellhas their their animal in hand.
I've seen a couple of dogs outthere needed saddles to get pony rides to
the kids. They're so big.But anyway, it's just fun. I
love the atmosphere. It's a carnivallike atmosphere. And then there are other

(04:25):
vendors down there that are vending information. I know last week Kevin Burke had
had a setup down there so youcould sign up for rag By and they
may be doing that again this week. We'll have to wait and see.
But anyway, please do that ifyou're thinking about it, if you've got
pretty good sized backyard that some folkscould camp in and you're willing maybe to

(04:48):
let them take a shower or somethingfreshen themselves up for the big ride the
next day where they're predicting I can'timagine this, Scott, one hundred thousand
or they're shooting for one hundred thousandbicyclists that next day on the leg down
to Duboines. I'm not sure whatthe route is, im I'll look it

(05:12):
up somewhere along the line and I'lllet people know and it'll become very obvious.
But one hundred thousand, yeah, anything they're saying that, they don't
know that they'll get that many. But fifty thousand would set the record by
itself. Oh it will yep.Yeah, I didn't know how many they
were required, but they want toset it by a long way evidently.
Yeah. Yeah. And it isthe fiftieth anniversary of rag Brye and we

(05:33):
really get busy. July. It'sa busy month here with midnight madness will
take place. As far as Iknow, Iowa Games will come to town
and then rag bry So we're goingto be inundated with I won't call them

(05:57):
strangers because they're lands and Nilans aren'tstrangers here in Aims. But people were
not familiar with and an opportunity forus to become familiar and let them know
why this city is so dear toall of us, and why we all
love this city we live in,and quite frankly, why it's so much

(06:19):
better than where they live. Ithink everybody has some kind of affection or
infection for where they live. Imean, I was a south Cider in
des Moine. By God, I'ma Southsider and I am to this day,
even though I live here in Aimes, a south Cider from des Moines,

(06:42):
and I take great pride in thatbecause of the kind of community it
was. It was just a smallportion of the metro area, but there
was a lot of southside pride downthere, and I don't know whether that
kind of pride still exists there becauseit is become so diverse and cultures out
there. We have some Asian culturesthere and there Hispanic cultures. The Italian

(07:06):
culture is still very strong in there. Um so it's it's always been somewhat
of a melting pot. But basicallywhen I when I lived there, it
was Italian and there's still some greatstrength in that community down there as far

(07:26):
as Italian pride goes, but itisn't so strong that they're hassling amongst themselves
a position who's the best one onthe show? So I no, they're
all good. They're Southsiders. That'sthe one common bond um. I've always
said that they've these um genetic sites, whether what's one of them thirty seven

(07:47):
or some two thirty seven or somekind of thing like that. People people
are finding out that they may havean identical twin somewhere really yeah yeah,
and have literally been like hassling theirparents. What did you send off my

(08:11):
identical twins somewhere? Did you givethem up? Or something like that?
And what these people are discovering it'stheir own mistake because when they first started
doing genetic checking, they sent theirname in and then now that the system
has become more sophisticated, they reappliedto get more information, and of course

(08:33):
it's matching themselves up with themselves,so that in a little duplication era that
yeah, duplication that they don't realize, and all of a sudden they think
mom and dad chose me over mybrother or sister, But no, it's
you, it's you. But Ithink that's kind of funny, that's kind
of funny. Would you would yougo into shock if you if if you

(08:56):
send into something like that and allof a sudden it says you have an
identical twin, You have a twinsomewhere out there, Yeah, I would
be surprised. Yeah yeah, yeah, Well, now what would you what's
the first thing you would do.Let's let's take it out of context a
little bit, but um, what'sthe first thing you would do if your
test came back and said that youhad a twin somewhere? What would you

(09:20):
do? Well, how would youapproach that? Well? I would look
at whatever details were out there thatwas given those that were given to me.
If there was a specific location, yeah, where this person was living.
Yeah, you wouldn't. You wouldn't. You wouldn't hold your dad off
to the woodshed, would you know? Okay, all right, I just
want to make sure because these atleast the folks I know immediately when at

(09:46):
their parents, really yeah, immediatelytook that to heart, faithful, you
to heart that this this site wasreputable and for all I know, it
is it's just a mix up inand how they handled this situation, and
the site obviously didn't track down whatwas going on. But yeah, I

(10:09):
approached their parents and angrily approached them, thinking in their heart of hearts that
their parents chose them over a sibling, and that I that's not the approach
I could take. No, it'sit's a pretty quick validation of a website

(10:30):
and one's online, right yeah.Yeah. And so if you're out there
and you've applied once and you're gonnaapply again, be conscious of that,
will you? You don't have thatidentical twin. God wouldn't make two like
you. You know that, allright? Okay? Six twenty seven mel
in the Mornings got Kovac with meon fourteen thirty mel in the Morning.
I'm fourteen thirty Kasi six twenty nineTime four the Hivy Birthday Club and here's

(10:56):
your host, Scott Kovac. Thanksmel. It is the Happy Birthday Club
sponsored by high V. If youwant to enter a name in the club,
all you need is today's date, the name of the person, and
of course their phone number. Now, because it is Friday, we are
taking birthdays for both Friday, Saturdayand also Sunday. So if you've got

(11:20):
a name that fits the bill,a birthday of either June ninth, tenth,
or eleventh, we'll give us acall and then put that person in
the raffle for a free birthday cakeor bouqueya balloons. Again courtesy of Hive
and fourteen thirty k's high. Youknow, I finally figured it out.
What's up? Well with me retiringit at the end of the month.

(11:41):
I can put my birthday in inAugust? You can, how about that?
Yeah? You think I'll have anyinfluence with you? It's possible.
We see, I have to seta name aside there which outside the hat
to pick it up later. Yeah, one of those I'll tape it,
you know, so, Yeah, you be a ten our bill attached to
it or something. All right,we'll take it out of the hat as

(12:01):
many times as you want. Sixthirty time for news. Barely discern it.
It was just fog, schmog andugly. But anyway, at least
we're not dealing with it that muchhere. But realize that if the weather

(12:22):
patterns were a little bit different,we would be. So I hopefully get
those fires under control in Canada, because that's frightening to me in the respect
that when I think of Canada andI have the terrible stereotype of Canada as

(12:43):
just being tree after tree after tree, coniferous trees, et cetera, massive
amounts of forests and things like that. I just think you go north of
the border here and it gets getsugly up there. And they have a

(13:05):
lot of a lot of the facilitiesthat could burn, a lot of natural
facilities that could be under this threat. And I think, I don't know.
I couldn't have heard, right,Could they were finding like three hundred
fires? Yeah, I don't.I don't know all the details. So
much my effort, and I knowmany of our focus rather than of the

(13:26):
fires, has been on the resultantsmoke that's just clouding things. I was
yesterday and I haven't had the chanceto take a look today, but the
air quality up there out of eitherNew York or Washington, DC, that
the cloud level of that smoke issuch that it's considered habit hazardous. It's

(13:50):
over twice the normal allowed amount ofsmock right now. It's ranking at least
as if yesterday was ranking among theI think he said to fifty one,
Yeah it was, it was wasway up there. Yeah. Um,
But it's also rank ranks us Utop those two, those two cities in

(14:13):
the tops like something like the topfive most polluted cities in the world.
Right now, it's just phenomenal.Yeah. Absolutely, We're up in the
territory where normally UH Delhi would finditself, but we're we're stacking up over
their calculations. I could use LittleDelhi right now, to be honest,

(14:37):
actually I could use a computer, and I don't think Dave had any success
there. So bear with us you. I am assuming you can still hear
us out there on the air,but uh, we are unable to access
our music or commercial UH sponsors rightnow. So um legitat just if I

(15:03):
said a little bit of a lurch, I'd be under under selling under selling
it. Yeah, So hoping thatwe can get this rectified here and notify
someone who is much smarter, smarterthan me. Um, and uh,
I'm searching for alternatives right now.Maybe at least I can get some music

(15:28):
in your ear while we try toget our commercial content up. But until
then, we will endeavor to getyou some music. Mail in the morning
fourteen thirty k is I Scott Kovac. We found some baling wire and we've

(15:48):
got the plane put together here fora little bit a lot of classical Iowa
duct tape here. Well you knowwhat this is where you say, oh,
thank god Dave's here this morning, right exactly. Yeah, somehow we
are still on error. Yeah, which is an astonishment to me, given
the fact that some of our operationalwindows or blank. Yeah, it's just

(16:11):
the computer in studio is not working, but the computer in the newsroom continues
to allow us at least to getsound as normal as we can. Scott,
we never sound normal. We don'tknow. I don't think there's been
ever been a time, and Iwill tell you right now. We don't
need the challenge. We go.Oh, I see something going on the

(16:32):
screens here. Looks like it's gettingexciting. I think Dave may have found
a solution our it specialist. Yeah, he's nodding over here. And it
just because we have the breakfast clubthis morning, that Dave has come in
early and was able to help usout here a little bit. But anyway,

(16:55):
we probably could have been flawless ifScott and I didn't panic. We
we did. We was sad aboutthat you shoved me out of the way,
I did, I said, andgot into life oat first. I
said, mel Yeah, this lifeboatis mine, Yeah, and I left
And what doesn't mean I'm a littledinghy anyway. But the thing is,

(17:18):
what is this? You've lived longenough, I've got plenty of life ahead
of me. Line that you used, I have no idea. No one
said that. It's just in amoment of Panny, just me and an
oar hadding away from you. Itell you speaking of the breakfast club by
the way, that's coming up atseven thirty this morning, and I'll get
to run out of the pantic roomuh and escape out to the Electric Services

(17:42):
just down the street here over byBanshell Park, and we'll be in the
conference room there, just inside thefront door. So come on over if
you would like. It's kind ofa social gathering to begin with, but
if you have something that you wantto promote. You are a non profit
out there, have an event comingup that you need to promote, and

(18:03):
I will tell you right now we'remore than glad to do it. And
we've had a lot of events comingup lately, and we should be chock
full this morning of guests. Butyou are welcome to stop by. I
am I was promised by promised bywho was Oh? I was promised by

(18:26):
Don com Dom said that he wasgoing to have some extra special treats there
this morning. I have no ideawhat that is. I don't know.
I'd like to find out myself.Oh you might like to find out.
But I have a fear that itmight be, you know, home cooking.

(18:47):
He might have baked up something himself. That scares me a little bit.
I mean, I know he's perfectlycapable of making dog bones, but
I don't know beyond that whether that'sgoing on. But I shouldn't, I
shouldn't look a gift horse in themouth. No, No, it's always
good and the coffee's great, SoI mean, it'll be a good breakfast
club this morning. And we hopethat you all will join us from seven

(19:11):
thirty to eight thirty and and givea listen so you can keep up on
the community going on. And uh, I don't know. See I'm feeling
odd right now in the respect thatI really want to give Dave a big
hug. You know, he hashe's found the cure. I'm not surprised

(19:34):
by it. But mister happy faceup there still doesn't look happy though,
Dave. I don't know, Idon't know, but I'm happy heck with
him, and anyway, it lookslike we're getting back somewhat to normal here
on fourteen thirty k s. I. But again, I'll be leaving all

(19:56):
the problems to Dave and Scott asI head out to the breakfast club.
I am heartily relieved to be doingthat this morning. I'll see you at
Aims Electric Services at seven thirty thismorning. All right, all right,
I am. Oh, the clockstopped, Dave. But anyway, I

(20:17):
got my own clock here and itsays, Mel, get the heck out
of here and get out of Dave'sway and let him do what he does.
So well, I'm Mel in themorning. I'm fourteen thirty KA seven
twenty three on news Talk fourteen thirtyk A s I. I gotta admit
I am a bit jealous of Mel. Yeah, it's a beautiful morning,

(20:38):
isn't it. I mean it's yeah. The six degrees, I guess that's
a little on the cool side forJune. But I don't think we should
complain perfect for a day. Juststarting out, what's gonna be, Well,
we're looking at a high right nowof eighty three, so that's gonna
be a little I'm a warm back. Now you're throwing a pair of shorts.

(20:59):
You're good to go, right, can chill out. Yeah, it's
a good way to get into theweekend, I think. And there's some
rain in the forecast tomorrow though,Uh yep, yeah, we're looking tomorrow.
We're looking at the high of seventythree and probably an eighty percent chance
of rain. It looks like probablyget a third of an inch and that's
a bush cipitation. That's no fun. It's the weekend. We got,

(21:23):
you know, great uh day ofweather today, and then the rain comes
on ruins everything. Well, well, Mel, you can be you can
be happy. I didn't never beenmore insulted in my life, Dave,
Dave, I'm sorry, and Melfeels the same. I'm sure he does.

(21:44):
There isn't. I don't know. That's not based on our looks,
is it. Um? No,that's just a habit from being with me.
Yeah, that's just a lot alot of take it so personally.
But I don't think either one ofus it's comfortable being confused for the other.
That's all right, Dave, youhave a face for radio unstable.
Can't imagine how many times my momhas told me you have a face for

(22:07):
radio. Yeah, I get thata lot. I mean, the closest
friends with family, they all tellme, stay on the radio, don't
go don't go on TV. Stayon the radio. That's where you belong.
You're born for it, born forradio. That actually sounds sounds.
That sounds like a tattoo I shouldhave. But anyway, we're getting I

(22:29):
was complaining about the weather, likethe old man, I am, but
what do we know? What's what'sSunday? I was looking like I have
a I don't know. That's probablytoo far. I don't know if I
trust meteorologists to tell me what theweather is going to be in days.
You know, the ten day forecastalways confused me as to how it could
go that that far. I don'tthink that's leghita. But Sunday we're looking

(22:52):
at a high of seventy two.Wow, I know that. As long
as there's no rain, I thinkthat good with me. Yeah, it
looks like it'll be sunny in theafternoon. There you go. I like
that. Uh yeah, I don't. I don't want to put up with
any rain, but I know it'sgood for the farmers well, especially since
we're officially considered to be in droughtconditions right now. I suppose that's true,

(23:15):
because I I'm trying to remember thelast time we actually had some measurable
that's a real rain. I know, we had like a sprinkle yesterday morning,
you know, just a passing showeras it turned out. Um,
and we've had guess we had alittle afternoon rain this week. We had
We've had an usually humid week,I think where then that kind of built

(23:37):
up and then we had some showers, even some thunderstorms late in the day.
But I don't I don't know ifwe got a lot of rain out
of thought week. Yeah, duringthe week. Yeah. So anyway,
I go off on the weather likeI know what I'm talking about, and
then it's clear I don't know whatI'm talking about. But any well,
you know, this is Iowa.Anybody can talk about the weather and it
sounds like an expert, at leastin their own mind. But what I

(24:00):
need to do, Maybe I shouldhop in the car. Well, I
want to see the reason I'm disappointedit's raining tomorrows because I wanted to hop
on my bike and get get itright in tomorrow. And it's gonna be
a nice day, but that's probablynot gonna happen. Uh. Maybe I'll
try this afternoon then. But anyway, I haven't been out on the bike
yet. But what something I shoulddo is just uh go out of town
a little bit and just drive around. Check out all the corn fields and

(24:22):
soybean fields. See all the farmersare doing so far. I don't know
if they're getting enough rain. Probablynot well, you know, if it's
drought conditions, my guess is not. But I haven't yet. I haven't
bet a farmer yet who's been happywith the weather at any time, any
point, any point. And youknow, I've met a few so qualifications.
It's always it's not enough rain,it's too much rain, it's raining

(24:45):
can at the wrong time. Itwas dry before, but now it's wet.
And it was wet before, butnow it's dry. I mean,
it's always uh to windy, youknow when you have to apply your herbicide
or and second side or whatever,uh you know, with your sprayer,
and you don't want a windy daybecause then it carries the chemical you know,

(25:10):
distance and not only does it youknow, actually not make it onto
your own crops, but it goesinto somebody else's field or about right there,
and that's yeah. And you knowwe speak in jest because let's let's
be frank. Our friends are farmersand friends of farmers and family and family,
and literally, in Dave's case,I broke a chain of like three

(25:30):
generations of farmers. Who knows hemay head back there yet, folks,
Uh, yeah, I guess younever know. I mean I still I
go, you know, back tothe old ancestral Sprout family farm and help
out what I can. But youknow, that's my my skills. I
don't know if they're actually contributing much. But at this point, my my

(25:53):
dad knows my limitations, so heknows what to ask me to do.
And you know he's not gonna haveme run in the planter or the combine
anytime soon, because that's that's that'stoo much. But something waiting to happen,
something for another farmer to complain about. Right, wow, exactly right.
I will to help. Oh mydoesn't know what he's doing, not

(26:14):
a clue. City boy here. He's trying to yeah, trying to do
some farming. But anyway, um, I I try to stay in my
lane, just follow orders. Whenyou know, when I'm around my dad
and not get tried to not gethim agitated, which if you know,
a farmer, don't want imagin Yeah, yeah, don't you know what you're

(26:36):
doing. You gotta put the thingthere with the stuff and yeah, you
know. Now it sounded like BillCosby there for a second, and I
didn't want to do that. Butanyway, that the upshot is we got
a great weather day today and prettygood on Sunday, but tomorrow rain's gonna
spoil it for us. I guess, well much needed rain, hopefully hopefully.
I don't know if we know thetiming of the rain tomorrow. It

(26:57):
doesn't mess with the downtown farmers Market, which is always a nice yeah Saturday
morning, it looks like you willjust be all day as they we hear,
but it can't be all that much. The vendors they got their tents
up, they got um, youknow, they prepare for the weather.

(27:22):
I think it would have to getto brittley, windy and really you know,
light a lot of lightning and thunderstorm. If it yeah, they're gonna
shut it down. But and itactually looks like this prediction maybe a little
ambiguous. You're looking at about ahalf inch is what's what's predicted, So
it may not be really strong rainsthroughout the day, or who knows,

(27:44):
maybe it's just in the morning.Hopefully the weather doesn't deter you from enjoying
the downtown Farmers Market. Got agreat night for Aims on the Half Shell
Live concert tonight at Benshell Park comingup, So there's a help out the
jc's by going out to that andhanging out a little bit if you're so
inclined. And uh yeah, wetalked to you know, Kevin Burke yesterday.
We know there's always so much stuffgoing on, and if you want

(28:04):
to know more, well we'll givehim plug discover Aims dot com if you
want to. If you want toknow what's happening this weekend and you know
what's ahead right now, we knowone thing that is ahead almost directly is
the breakfast club with Mail in themorning. He's alive at the AIMES Electric
Services Administration Building, speaking of overby Benshell Park here in downtown Aims.

(28:25):
So feel free to stop by,say hi to Meil, and take the
opportunity to promote a local nonprofit organizationor community events such as Aims on the
Halfshell or the Farmer's Market, etcetera, etcetera. That's coming up momentarily right
now. Time for the news seventhirty one A news talk fourteen thirty Kasi,

(28:48):
I guess we'll share that with everybody. Anyway, It is time now
for your Rushman's report, and I'mdoing that of course from the Angel Electreek
Services. Do we call this conferenceroom? Done? Sure? Yeah,
we'll call it whatever we want. But anyway, got anybody on the line
there, kids, you do?Yeah, who's on board? Hey?

(29:08):
It started to chat with the eavesPage Love I geas with me, Sergeant
Chad Love it with the Eames PoliceDepartment and Chad, how are we looking
out there? Buddy? Hey,we're doing all right this morning. Everything's
looking a okay, the sunshining andit's a Friday, so all around now
is it your Friday? Though itis my Friday. It actually rotates around
my Friday this time, so hey, this works out well for you,

(29:29):
it does. I can actually celebratea Friday on a Friday, yeah,
which is rare. It is rare. It's just in my line of work.
We Fridays are often many other daysof the week. So yeah,
yeah, any anything special going onfor you with this weekend. Uh,
not for me. I'm actually planningto hopefully work around the house. I've
got a kiddo that's having a birthdaythis weekend. So oh how old he
is going to be? Sixteen?Wow? So you you're going to take

(29:52):
him out and buy him a newcar? Probably not. No, We'll
start with some cake and then UI talk about it. You'd like a
new gar? Did you get himregistered on the birthday Club? I did
not yet. No, I needWhen we get done, you hang on
and they'll put you on hold andScott will get your young man registered in
the birthday Club. To smart outstanding. I like it. Maybe you won't

(30:15):
have to buy a cakey chief skate. Hey, hey, wait a minute,
are you calling me cheap? Idon't think I have to, but
yeah, I think you already knowthat. But anyway, I hope you
have a great birthday party. Ihope he enjoys it. Is he getting
his license in? He is?He'll get his license ully sense next week.
We've got an appointment with the dotto get that happen, and so

(30:36):
he is super excited to do that. He's actually out in Colorado on a
missions trip right now with our church. So oh wow, neat young man,
you've got there. He's he's helpingout a bunch of people out there
in Denver, Colorado. So hecomes back on Saturday and we'll celebrate his
birthday the next day. So heis, he's doing all right, that's
all right. You can still registerhim today. And you know that cake
will keep Yeah, we keep itin the well. I don't know if

(31:00):
we see it around our house,I might eat it, all right,
my friend, listen, we gotthe all clear this morning, and you've
got the all clear to have agreat weekend and we'll talk to you next
week. Yeah, same to youguys too. Have a great one,
all right, thanks Chad, SergeantChad love a good to the LAPD,
the Lovely Aimes Police Department giving inus our traffic report this morning and we'll

(31:22):
take a break. It's brought toyou by Mary Greenley Medical Center, doing
what's right mel on the morning.I'm fourteen thirty Kasi and this guy he
makes me happy every time I seehim, which is almost every week.
But I have to tell you hebrings me such good news this morning.

(31:44):
And I could just tell by yourgate how long has it been since you
skipped? Oh my goodness, it'sbeen a while, let me tell you.
Yeah, but it was well worthit because last night Pump Boys and
the diy Nets at Actors we soldout the show and we got a standing
ovation. They yes, yeah,it is sitting ovation here this morning.

(32:07):
It's still going on. I tellyou, the cast is fabulous. This
is the most professional thing I thinkI've seen us do. There's just an
aura about this cast. They likeeach other, they they have formed a
band. It's the audience. Theywere just smiling from ear to ear last
night. It was just so muchfun. And I tell you we can

(32:30):
always tell when our spring musical issuccessful. To me, all that,
okay, yeah, because we sellmore season tickets after the show. Last
night, we sold a bunch ofseason tickets after the show, so we
know that the audience really loved theshow, and I think everyone else will
too. It's and it's interesting acrossthe board at every age, people come

(32:55):
out of there just thinking that wasso much fun. So that I don't
think anybody should miss Pump Boys andDynets. And we still have tickets available
for tonight and tomorrow night. ButI think it will fill up because in
the last twenty four hours we solda bunch of tickets, So don't wait.
You can get tickets online at Actorsinc. Dot org, or you can

(33:17):
go to Alpha Copies in West Names, or if you're a First National Bank
First Point member, you can getthem at First National Bank, or just
call Actors. Well, there's goingto be someone around there a lot of
the day today. We can probablytake care of you via the phone.
I'll tell you this is one ofthose occasions. And this being the last
performance for this season, by theway, this is going to be a

(33:39):
case of leave them want more, and that's what we're finding out here.
And next season looks fabulous too.But if you miss pump Boys and Dynets
and stand, I don't know, you get the adrenaline flow going. Ever
since you've decided to do this show. You were so excited yourself to have
the opportunity to put this together, but of course had some bumps in the

(34:01):
road, so to speak, butfilled those in very very well, and
filled them in very ably. Andso folks, if you're wanting to know
what Actors is about, I can'tthink of a better reason to catch than
to catch pump boys and dinants andfind out what a treasure we have here
in this city. Is such atreasure that we got what I claim jumpers

(34:22):
coming up from out of town toperform here. You know, that's it.
We've got so much fun. BecauseTim Bourbon is from Stanhope and he
did the show in Emmetsburg twenty sixyears ago and he liked the show so
much then he's come back to doit again with us. And Amy mcgru
now lives in Polk City, butshe did the show when she was living

(34:44):
in Cherokee and she liked the showso much she wanted to do it again.
You know, there are very fewshows I ever want to do a
second time, so this is oneof those that it's such it's such a
good script, it's such good music, and it's so much fun. People
do want to do it it again. And we had people who were there
for dress rehearsal night came back andsaw it again last night and said,

(35:07):
yeah, it's even better the secondtime because you yeah, you can just
follow it and it's so so don'tmiss and if you've seen it once,
come back and see it again.Because when this show is gone. It's
gone, all right, Stan, thanks so much, congratulations, Thank you
Mel. This is just it's somuch fun to be able to say we
pulled it off, because this isa tough show. And when people come

(35:29):
and see it, they'll they'll seehow how much work it was to put
together and how much fun this castis having and they will too. All
Right, there you go, actors, get out there, pump boys and
jine knits running now for the nextcouple of weeks. Get you tickets now,
because they won't be available all throughthose weeks. I'll guarantee you once
the word is out. Then youknow what, You don't look a hundred

(35:52):
years old, Jerry Turner, I'mgetting closer every day. You have a
nice tr On says happy birthday, and I'm thinking, gosh is Jerry's birthday?
Because I would feel bad if Iif I missed it. But we
are celebrating a one hundredth birthday. We are the Ames New Kauanas Club is
celebrating one hundred years of service toour community and we're going to have a

(36:14):
birthday party. And they have reasonto celebrate. I know. I'm talking
about the shoe drive went spectacularly intheir first go with that, but they
have had so many different things theyhave done for this community over these one
hundred years that it's time to getout there and help them celebrate. It's
been really fun to look back throughthe history that we have recorded for our

(36:37):
organization. The very first project wasto erect a flagpole at the Ames High
School, and the second project wasto adopt a couple of orphans. It
doesn't say where they were from, but apparently we adopt. No, we
sponsored a couple of We didn't adopt. Sorry, we sponsored a couple of
orphans. So Little Jenny and buildKauwana, right, I'm sure they're long

(37:00):
gone now, but yeah. Sothrough the years, Kawanis has had a
variety of fundraisers, so we canput that money to good use, supporting
mostly children's projects, but we takecare of other not children, because we're
all children at heart. Yeah, well, we'd like to think. So
anyway, it's free the celebration andwhen is it and where is it?

(37:22):
Well it is next Saturday, Juneseventeenth at the Aims Public Library, and
now public library is also doing aJune teenth festival, and I thought,
oh my gosh, do we reallyhave the library or are they going to
be there, But no, they'regoing to be at the Bandshell. So
we're going to take over the airconditioned auditorium. Oh you're selling it now,

(37:43):
sister, you're selling it, Iam. And and for those of
you who visit the library, youmay know that the auditorium is named after
long time historian Farwell T. Brown, who was a aimes Neon Kauanist member.
I learned as I was going throughthe history books. So yeah,
So we're going to be there nextSaturday, one to four in the afternoon.
We'll have the back of the Balloonladies going to be there working in

(38:04):
her magic for the kids and adults. We'll have treats, we have some
history, we will have a visualdisplay where you can literally get hands on
with fourteen of our most popular projectsthat we do through the year. And
then, of course we would beremiss if we didn't talk a little bit
about membership in our organization, becausewe can't have a century of service without

(38:25):
people. And so our club isjust under fifty members right now, and
we want people to know what wedo, how we do it, and
to invite them to be a partof it. So if you're interested in
learning more about Kawana's what we doin the community, come on down.
If you really don't care about whatwe do and you just want to have
a treat in a balloon hat, come on down. So yeah, one

(38:46):
of the cool features. Somebody hadthe idea that maybe we should invite some
of the groups and organizations that wehave funded with grants and invite them to
come and have their own display topromote their organizations as a way to show
the kind of organizations that we investour time and money in. So we
have a handful of them committed already, with more invitations out there. So

(39:08):
just a great opportunity to learn aboutwhat we do in the community and meet
some of the people that make ithappen. I'll tell you what, They're
wonderful people, Believe me, Iknow quite a few of them there.
And and Miles Tomorrow's got a gunto my heads and you better join when
you retire. So I am compelled, and I am looking at it very

(39:29):
seriously. I come down, findout what the Kawanians are about, thank
them for their one hundred years ofservice. Do you have a favorite balloon
animal? I'm kind of partial tothe little anything that she does tiny and
puts on a wrist because then Ican't lose it. Yeah, I'm a
platypust guy. I was. Youknow, it's a it's a challenge for
her. I know that that, and she gets frustrated, but she does.

(39:52):
Okay, she does. Okay, come on down, see back.
I get a balloon, animal, get a treat, talk to the Kawanians,
join the Kawanians, and clebrate onehundred years of birthdays and service to
the community. Jerry, always apleasure, My pleasure. Mel She's got
a happy birthday. Tr On.I'm a little jealous. I don't think
it would stick on my head? You got hair? Oh do you think

(40:13):
it will? Oh? My eye? No? All right, then it
is the first part of the BirthdayClub. Coming back on talk to dot
Com, which I normally talked to, but Raby crowded in. But he
had such good news. We hadto let him go down said let him
go, I'll come back. I'lldo it. So we got that coming

(40:34):
up. We got a lot moreof the Breakfast Club here at the Electric
Services conference room. Now, Ido want to remind you that we are
rotating the Breakfast Club between here andthe water services plants. So next week
we'll be at water services, treatmentservices next week, and then back here
at electric services after that. AndI don't write all this town. I'll

(40:57):
remind you through the next couple ofweeks. But anyway, we don't want
you to miss it. And again, just as Jerry did and some of
our other guests will do. Gotevents coming up here in the community you
need to know about. And thebest way to do that is join me
every Friday morning from seven thirty toeight thirty at the Breakfast Club. You
can do that. You can emailme at fourteen thirty Kasi dot com.

(41:20):
Mel Crippen. Could you spell thatlast name? I can Crippe n and
we'll get you registered that way.Or here's the easiest way, just show
up. Just show up and Iwill find a way to get you on
the air and get your event promoted. It is important to me, it's
important to you, and it's importantto the community. So that's just an

(41:43):
easy way to do it. That'spretty much going to do it for this
first half hour, Mel in themorning, I'm fourteen thirty k is I
welcome back to the Breakfast Club.Don com come over here a month and
you gave up a little time earlier. Mister Raby, who is a good

(42:05):
friend of both of us here,Don very very active at actors, has
had a good way to put it. You've been several performances out there.
Yeah, I've done a lot ofshows over the year. So it's a
beautiful place. And I would alsoencourage people to go out there and take
in a show. They do agreat job. And Don of course known
for his accents that I give him, I give done our time all the

(42:30):
time. But anyway, I'm notgoing to give him a hard time about
this because you have been director ofElectric Services for many, many years and
we have seen many many innovations occurover those years. You bet we've moved
anywhere from you know, used toburn coal here. We've gotten rid of
all of our coal plants. Nowwe still burned refuse to drive fuel.

(42:51):
So all of the garbage that comesinto the county, we convert the stuff
that's burnable and we make electricity outof it rather than put it in a
landfill. So that's something that we'vedone. More are currently now. We're
doing a lot with electric vehicles. We're putting in a lot of electric vehicle
chargers around the city. So ifyou're at all thinking about an electric vehicle,
there are places I'm fairly convenient nowwhere you can plug in your car

(43:15):
and it costs no more to plugin here than it would be if you
charged at home. Yeah, Itell you that's something that's been fun to
kind of watch that grow as wewatch people who are buying electric vehicles make
those purchases and now have a convenientplace to go to get them charged up.
And not only that, wind generationis so big now. And you

(43:36):
know, we didn't even mention thesolar farm. Oh we've got a Yeah,
we've got a solar farm that's downby the airport. It's about a
two megawatt solar farm. If aperson wants to buy in or own a
piece of the solar farm, youstill can. You just got to get
a hold of jol here in ouroffice two three nine, five, one
seven seven and he can get youset up. We have a lot of
other people that are putting solar ontheir roofs, so you can do that

(43:58):
if you happen to be a homeowner. For the renters, we recommend the
solar farm down at the airport, and we're looking at more We want to
get more wind, more solar intoour generation mix, and they'll be you'll
be hearing some projects probably out thenext six months where we're putting some in.
Yeah, when you design the solarfarm, you were able to do
that for possible expansion, Yep,we can expand that one. We're also

(44:22):
looking at other places, like wehave a closed landfill here in the city
and that's one of a great greatplaces to put solar panels. So we're
looking at a project to do that. And also we're looking at some roofs
where you won't be able to seethem, but they'll be there producing electricity
for the city. And when youtalk about solar panels, et cetera,

(44:44):
people who are considering that really needto do some kind of an audit to
make sure that their property is capableof handling that kind of generation. Yeah,
we have a program so if you'regoing to interconnect with the electric grid,
if you want to put them onyour home, you can go to
our website and on their it talksabout solar and it explains everything that you
need to do to interconnect the solarso that when you put it on.

(45:07):
It will work well for you andat the same time it won't create any
problems for your neighbors and for theutility. And the other thing that we
have not talked about, which ismay come into effect very very soon.
Here is your way to save electricityby joining it out. Forget the name,
but prime primetime power. So weare getting into the summer season,

(45:29):
and summers for utilities, that's wheneverybody wants to turn that air conditioner on
at about five o'clock at night whenit's ninety ninety five degrees. If we
can keep that peak down, wecan avoid building that next generator. And
what that means for everybody is isour rates stay low and we don't want
to build that new generation. Soif you happen to be putting in an

(45:50):
air conditioner, or if you've noteven signed up for the program, contact
us again at the city and askfor primetime power. It's a little switch
that goes on and then just onthe peakest of days, peakest of days,
we can then control your air conditionerjust for seven minutes out of every
thirty minutes, and that keeps ourdemand for energy down. Sounds great,

(46:12):
don There's always I couldn't think ofa thing to talk to you about when
you came over here, but Ithink we have. But we have one
other thing. So I know you'reout at water last week, all right,
and water is known, I meanlike Ames has like the best tasting
water, and mister Shanker is constantlybeating me up. What are you doing
for electricity? So we've got anew program we're starting. I think we
got to try to kick this off. And it's make electricity lovely. We

(46:37):
call it mel I love it.I think that's perfect. I've been doing
that all my life exactly. Soyou know, we haven't figured out exactly
how to do that yet, buthopefully our lights will shine a little bit
brighter. And you know, andyour and your air conditioners were at Mary.
Yeah, thanks, Mary's kind ofoh there you go. So we're

(46:58):
working on that. We're not sureexactly what it looks. I cat okay,
Well, we'll look forward to it, and I know you'll keep us
informed. Thanks Don, Thank you, sir Don com of course, director
of electric services here in the Cityof Ames, doing a great job.
And we'll take a quick break andthen we'll be back to more of the
breakfast Club on fourteen thirty k As I Mel. In the morning on

(47:21):
fourteen thirty k SI, Rachel Patnajoins me from the Boys and Girls Club
of Story County and Rachel, youjust made me feel older. Oh great,
she did, she informed me.She said, do you know,
Mel, you and I met yearsago when you were in college. That
can have been too many years agoto us. A few, just a

(47:42):
few. I graduated in twenty seventeen, so we met between twenty seventeen to
twenty nineteen. Yeah. Yeah,we were doing the building repelling Evan out
there and I was narrating that. That was a lot of fun. I
enjoyed that. But there's a lotof things I enjoy about the Boys and
Girls Club, And what's really beennice is to watch its growth, and

(48:02):
it has grown so much. Youguys are gonna have to expand before very
long. Yeah. Yeah, there'ssome some big news coming in the next
couple of years or so. Butwe definitely have seen tremendous growth in the
last couple of years between both ouraims and a VATA site. Our site
directors Becky Lundy and Crack Chavas havebeen doing amazing with the kids so definitely

(48:27):
a lot of growth there. Ialways call it aims Boys and Girls Club,
but it is so much more thanthat. It has expanded over to
Nevada, and just to see thatgrowth has been monumental. But the reason
you guys grow is your programs growand is so all encompassing. It's no
boys and girls club. Years agofor me was oh, you go there

(48:50):
and play pool or maybe some foosballor some ping pong or this and that.
But now you can get tutored, you can work with computers, photography.
There just so many programs out thereexpanding to meet the needs of youth.
And and I'll tell you what you'recoming up with a very very clever

(49:13):
promotion right now, tell us alittle bit about Rachel. Well, thank
you. Our newest event is comingup June twenty fourth. It's called Come
in Clutch for BGCSC and that justmeans show up for us. It's a
brunch style purse auction. So nineto eleven am we are picking up the

(49:35):
Mimosa tab Mel with the awesome sponsorshipfrom Ames Story Tree and Lawn, and
then we have a lot of localmade pastries from Great Harvest Bakery and Sweet
Carolines is coming in for us aswell for food. So we have a
lot of really great local support andwe'll be doing a raffle throughout the morning.

(49:58):
So we have a lot of giftcar arts from local main street vendors.
Mormon Cloth Years has given us anice gift card. Massage Heights has
a free hour massage, and theAmes Airport has given us a scenic ride.
So those are all things you canwin if you're there that are you
taking that scenic ride yet? Ihave not, but we just had our

(50:21):
fly in and it was fabulous. They went way over Ada, Hayden and
all of that and people loved it. Yeah, I've taken it before many,
many times and it's fun, especiallyif you have not seen the expansion
of the city in recent years. You really get a different kind of perspective
purse auction where you have some manpurses. You know, we do have

(50:44):
a men's carryall messenger bag. It'sGucci pre loved. We have a lot
of gently owned or a couple ofnew purses. So we're trying to be
really sustainable with this. And youknow, luxury purses is a huge industry

(51:06):
that there's a lot of waste,so we're trying to not only be sustainable
but also give back to our kids. There's a magic word Mary just over
there. She just got overjoyed. Was sustainable. But anyway, they're going
to hold this out at the AgeGolfing Country Club on June the twenty fourth.
Now there is a registration fee, yes, so it's twenty five dollars

(51:27):
to enter, and then we're doingit silent auction style, so you'll bid
mingle, we'll be giving away theraffles. You'll get the raffle ticket with
your twenty five dollars entry fee.So pretty cheap to come out and have
a girl's morning out. Sounds great. How can they get registered? They
can email me at Rachel pat Nodpat n a u D at bgcstory dot

(51:53):
org. Just let me know thatyou're going to be there and I can
tell you how to pay, orif you want to pay day of that's
fine too, and I'd be excitedto have you know, the gals of
Story Counting come on out. Canyou do day of registration? Will you
be doing it on the day ofregistration or does that complicate things? So

(52:13):
we have seventy five spots available. For this since it's a new event,
so I would prefer if they wouldemail me just let me know you're coming.
But you can pay day of ifyou'd like. We'll have staff there
to take care of that. Allright, Rachel, thanks so much for
stopping. But I'm excited. Ithink that's gonna be a lot of fun.
And it was good to see youagain, even though I didn't remember.

(52:35):
But I'm you know, I'm notmuch older. I can do that.
That's okay. Thanks, well,I appreciate you having me my pleasure.
Believe me, Mary, Mary quitecontrary here she comes. Yeah,
oh my god, Rachel said, sustainable. Mary jumped out of her seat
over there and got a big project. They're talking about sustainable and talking about

(52:55):
opportunity. A knocking Mary, what'sgoing on as far as sustainability goes.
Well, we also have an eventcoming up and it's also on the twenty
fourth, but it is timed toallow you to take part in the wonderful
event Rachel was just talking about, and then come join us. So we
are doing our annual College Creek cleanupevent. June is National Rivers Month and

(53:21):
all waterways need a little extra careand attention. And June is that month
where we sort of shine that lighton that So College Creek Cleanup takes place
right on. We start on campusand then we actually will take volunteers into
areas in campus town and even inour arboretum. Is a creek sort of

(53:42):
pops up throughout our community. Theevent is from ten am to two pm.
That being said, we will havea registration table at our main meeting
area and we'll have volunteers there thewhole time. So any amount of time
that works for your schedule works forus, So we invite you to come
out for an hour, a coupleof hours, whatever can work. It

(54:02):
all will make a difference. Andthe meeting place is if you look at
the Iowa State website, it's parkinglot fifty A. But for those who
are somewhat familiar with Iowa State oryou can look on the website as well,
it is a parking lot of theForker Building, and so you will

(54:22):
see us out there with registration tablewelcoming you. We will provide all the
supplies that you need. We havesome great support from local businesses as well,
offering refreshments and some door prizes forour volunteers. And we just encourage
folks to get onto our website andsign up so we're prepared for you with
all of those supplies, and thatwebsite is live Green dot iastate dot edu.

(54:46):
And we will also remind you comingup because Mary and Stan I've been
spending I don't want the rumor toget out there again, but spending a
lot of time together lately and preparingfor rummage ram page, which is coming
up in August and or July.I'm sorry, yeah, last of July,
first of August, and we'll getyou more information on that as the

(55:07):
weeks come up. But Mary isalways thanks for stopping by. Pleasure is
mine, Well, thank you foroffering this opportunity for all of us My
pleasure. All right, we're gonnatake a quick break here. We've got
to grab some news and the everlovely effervests and Crystal Davis stopped by this
morning. I'm going to see whatshe's up to right after this. You're

(55:29):
listening to fourteen thirty Esi. Melhas headed out to the vehicle to grab
a few batteries as Mike went dead, and of course that's not an emergency,
but that's why you're listening to meat this moment, and it looks
like we may be able to getDave sprow in here too. Kind of
say a word or two. Well, Mela is looking for those batteries.

(55:51):
Oh, it sounds like Mel foundhis batteries. I did. I had
to run outside, and I don'tknow if anybody's ever seen me run.
It's how to run. It's nota run, No mean, it's a
it's a crawl. Got out there, found the batteries and we're back in
business here and great, yeah, well you will hand it off to you.
Then Mel Crystal Davis stopped by,but it wasn't to be on air.

(56:17):
She wanted to ask me something andI'm I don't know if I'm stepping
out a line here, but Crystalhas honored me and the committee with the
fourth of July Parade have asked mebe the parade Marshal this year. How
about that? That sounds great. That sounds like a lot of fun.

(56:37):
Mill Well, yeah, I didit for years announcing it and and now
have the opportunity to be the paradeMarshal. I got to practice my royal
wave, don't you think. Yeah, just that little twist of the forearm
get the hand rotating you're doing. Are you and Dave willing to run alongside
the car security? Uh? No, Mel, we're not willing. Oh

(56:57):
okay, well I thought that wouldbe all right. Oh you get dark,
Well, it's possible. It's possibleI would get you some dark glasses.
Yeah, you know, I couldget them here from Electric Services.
They got some of those cheap plasticglasses that they used to give out.
I think there's some still hanging aroundhere. Well, it's as long as
it's a pretty large pair of glasses. I think. I'm just worried about
you two keeping up as the thing, you know, because I have tendency

(57:20):
to drive it a little fast,but I won't be driving, so I'll
be sitting back. And um,I think they have gotten believe it or
not, this is just rumor, but the gold carriage that the King of
England wrote in after his coronation,So I may be in that. Some
of you have the popemobile. Popemobileprobably be a hay wagon, but hey

(57:44):
wagon, yeah something something appropriate forme? Uh but anyway, honored by
that. I am very emotional overit. And they're gonna have some fun
with it, that's for sure.I'm gonna load up with some water balloons
or something to hit people with,so and just tell them, hey,
this is from the for you. This is the best water in America.
So there you go. And Idon't know, I'll come and right I'm

(58:07):
gonna talk to Joel here and maybeI can get some electric things I can
throw. What do you think,Joel, We've got some footballs hanging out.
I think that we're going to actuallybe giving out some foam footballs for
the fourth July parade. Yeah, that'll be fun. And of course,
Joel, what's new with you,my friend? Well, there's always something
new here at Electric. We're keepingbusy and you know, I'm in charge

(58:28):
of the energy efficiency programs, andI think our big new thing this summer
is this was a new rebate thatwe implemented in January at the beginning of
the year. But of course we'renot seeing it till now. Electric lawnmowers.
We have a fifty dollars rebate forbattery electric lawnmowers and they've been coming
in. That's been exciting to see. It's funny you should say that,

(58:49):
because well, not funny. Igot an electric lawnmark. No, but
that is something. And I'm alittle bit ashamed to admit this, but
probably five six years ago, Ithought, you know, I ought to
get an electric lawnmoor instead of thissmoke blowing thing that I'm hauling around the
yard. And they're much I thinkthey're misunderstood when we talked. Electric lawnmowers

(59:14):
have been around for a long time, but you still have to drag that
chord behind you, and that wasscary. Yeah. I mowed lawn as
a teenager for a neighbor with achord behind and I was very careful not
to run it over, but Ifailed. Well, I'll tell you what,
and I was. I was biginto electric back then, and my

(59:36):
dad had these electric hedge clippers, and I'll tell you you've never seen more
taped spots on a chord than whenI handled those electric clippers. I mean
I'd get about a third of theway whoa, and then another third and
another third. But knew the valueof them, and I still have.
I don't know their battery operated, but I guess you still call those electric

(59:59):
clippers. Yeah, that's right there, electric clean on you empowered by clean
electricity? No, uh, theyare quieter and you know especially you know,
I had a lawnmower that I decidedI was going to get an electric
lawnmore as soon as it died.It was a lawn Boy two cycle.
I got it from my grandmother.Uh, it just refused to die.
And so finally I decided that Iwas sick of smelling like oil and gas

(01:00:23):
mix at the end of lawn mowinglawn, and I bought a battery electric
lawn more. It's great, youknow. It does the lawn just fine.
It's plenty of battery left over. But yeah, I just plug it
in on the charger back when I'mdone with it. And uh, I
have a number of other blower anda trimmer and hedge trimmers as well.
Yeah, that's great and so sothe rebate is from from Electric Services for

(01:00:45):
games Electric customers. It's just forthe for the lawnmower, but it's fifty
dollars for a battery electric lawn more. Yeah, how would they apply for
that? Did you bring in areceiege or how would that work? Just
to receipt um. You can applyonline if you go to Citybeames dot orgs
slash smart Energy. There'll be alist of all of our rebate programs there
and all our energy efficiency programs andthey can apply online and scanning, upload

can send out printed mail in.I haven't seen you for a while,
I think since last year. How'sa fan. Family is doing well?
Yeah, another year of school isdone, so we're looking forward to summer

(01:01:30):
vacation and getting a lot of timeand at the pool. At the pools
this summer, they'll be there. Was going to be multiple swimming plans throughout
the year. It's kind of funnythat's what my family is doing to my
wife, my grandson, my daughter. You're going to spend a lot of
time at the pool down there. But again, electric lawnmowers, got a
rebate coming up, several other thingsthat you can get rebates on. Best

just amazing. The hack can doanything, including pick out HIVY Birthday club

it doesn't we appear to you asif any vision. Yes, yes,

(01:03:49):
let's let's not get too metaphorical here. Uh, we're just, you know,
just having some fun. Yeah,it's Friday. I mean we're just
winding down, counting down to theweekend. I gotta got a good story
out of France here for you.Yeah. Yeah, that phrase very often.
But um, apparently a h atwenty four year old man was being

(01:04:13):
attacked by another man with a knife. No, but the listen, trust
me this part. It's better becauseI mean, I know it's pretty heavy
the knife. Uh. The guywith the knife was stabbing kids like Oh

(01:04:36):
my god. Yeah, I know. There's a twenty four year old guy.
His name is an Um. That'show you say in French. You
know, it's h r. Iuh he used his backpack too. Um
just take a swing at the guywith a knife and and kind of ch

(01:05:00):
based him off. I guess Frenchmedia or hailing rias the hero with a
backpack, as he was shown ina video grappling with the assailant and charging
after him during the knife attack thatcritically wounded four children between the ages of
twenty two months and three years old. The guy also the guy with the
knife injured two adults. Henri hada heavy backpack and was holding another backpack

(01:05:20):
in his hand. He had sohe had to have the heavy backpack on
his back and another backpack in hishand when the attacker slashed him. After
being slashed at, Henri continued toharass the attacker by pursuing him inside a
playground when the man repeatedly stabbed children, a child in a stroller, and
then chased him out of the park, all the while carrying these backpacks.

(01:05:41):
He actually at one point throws theone of the backpacks at the assailant,
then picks up again to take anotherswing at the guy. Henri's father front
sis because it was a Frenchman here, he was very French. He believed
his son's dogged pursuit helped dissuade theattacker from stabbing more vict's four police wrestled
him to the ground, so thatanother post aspect story that actually got the

(01:06:05):
guy with the knife into custody.Francois tells the Associated Press that his son
took a lot of risks when hewasn't armed, just with his backpacks.
He didn't stop running after him formany minutes to stop him from coming back
and maskring the kids even more.I think he prevented carnage by scaring him
off. Really very courageous and absolutelyshout out to on rehere, like with

(01:06:28):
just a backpack, just a backpack, I mean, in a situation like
that, I think I gotta behonest, I would be scared to death.
I wouldn't know what to do withmyself if you saw such. I
mean, first of all, sucha horrific thing to witness in the first
place. And there's I know there'sin most of us, probably there's that
part of you that wants to dosomething he wants to help and stop the

(01:06:51):
guy. But there's also that partof you that says, he's got a
knife and I don't. Yeah,and that's I mean, that's a really
frightening proposition obviously, Um, Andit's not. It's not one of those
things that happens every day, youknow. I mean, I I we
have armed shooters here in the USthat go on mass killing sprees and it's

(01:07:15):
absolutely ridiculous. It's interesting a knifebecause we rarely, at least from what
I know, we rarely talk aboutknife killings in the US. The certainly
don't happen very frequently. That don'tseem to happen very frequently. No,
Well, you know, the oldthe old adage that the gun rights people
like to use is, you know, you takes a good guy with a
gun to stop a bad guy witha gun. And France apparently takes a

(01:07:38):
good guy with a couple of backpacksto stop the night. Oh, I
get it. That guy. I'llgive him cred. That's that is pretty
cool. That takes Henri, bythe way, is shying away from the
hero label. He says, uh, he tried to act as all French
people should act or would act inthat moment, you unplug your brain and

(01:08:00):
react a bit like an animal byinstinct. It was impossible for me to
witness that without reacting. I'm farfrom alone, and having reacted, many
other people around and started, likeme to run after him, to try
to scare him, push him away, and other people immediately went over to
the children to take care of theinjured. Wow. Yeah, he said

(01:08:20):
that there was a municipal worker whoarrived from the right with a large plastic
shovel to try to stop the guywith the knife. Because there's that.
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Frenchofficials say all four children underwent surgery for
life threatening wounds and are under constantmedical surveillance. Their situation is stable,

(01:08:41):
which hopefully that's good, and they'renot we're not out of the woods yet.
But the president of France and hiswife, Manuel McCrone and his wife
went to the hospital that's treating threeof the four children to check out a
motive for the attack. Unexplained. This was in a town. I hope

(01:09:02):
I'm getting this right. Annas an n ec y which is in the
alpine region of franch so it's notlike a major city or at least not
not what I've heard of. Thesuspect remains in custody. UH psychiatrists are
evaluating him. I would hope so, because I don't know whatever is wrong

(01:09:26):
with you, you in your brainthat you would want to establish a little
bit shout out to Henri the herowith the backpacking go back guy, Go Go
