(00:00):
So what's a deal here. Thissounds like the perfect thing to do if
you want to lose weight, Butno, In this episode of I Tell
You What, what's one of thefirst things that you do before you step
on a scale, before you stepon a treadmill, before you do anything?
What do people do? Get agym membership? Yeah, that's one,
sure, I get a gym membership. Gym memberships do truly help people.
(00:21):
This is something that actually we founddoesn't help anybody. According according to
the World Health Organization, people switchto artificial sweeteners all and it's not doing
them any favor, not good. It's actually, yeah, do you know
what's going on with that? Ithink you probably Well, I don't know.
(00:41):
I guess I'm not. I'm notan expert. Generally, I try
to avoid artificial sweeteners and artificial thingslike artificial colors, artificial flavors. I
just in general try to avoid, not because I know all the science and
stuff behind it. I'm just like, it doesn't really hurt me to need
to avoid those things and pick outthings that aren't artificial. I guess.
(01:02):
So, I'm sure you probably havemore information right in front of you that
could help. Well, No,they say artificial sweeteners, but they also
say that they're natural. So howdoes that work? Like stevia do you
call it stevie or stevia is supposedto be natural, but it's not according
to the World Health Organization, weknow splenda is not the stuff with aspartame
(01:26):
in it and all that. Um, these zero calorie sweeteners are worse off
there. You're you're worse with them. And my mom said this years ago.
She talked about this. She's like, honey, if you're gonna jazz
up your coffee, if you needa sweetener, use sugar. Just use
sugar. Just don't go crazy withit, you know, if you because
(01:48):
she didn't like me because I wasusing splenda and I was using other stuff.
Now I use uh truvia, whichis supposed to be even more true
than like stevie, and stevie issupposed to be true, I guess.
But all of this is bad becauseit leads to type two diabetes and cardiovascular
diseases. And it says it's justthen that just as your next you know,
(02:13):
you're opening the door to death.People need to consider other ways to
reduce free sugar's intake, such asconsuming food and naturally occurring sugars like fruit
or unsweetened food and beverages. Um, I love a little sweetener in my
coffee, man, I've always beenthat way. Started with sugar and then
I made the switch to an artificialsweetener. And like I said, I
(02:36):
remember my mom saying it. Iremember it like yesterday. Stuff is way
worse for you. I remember sheeven said, if you're going to have
a soda, should have just areal soda. Don't have a diet because
the diet's just it's nasty for you, Type two diabetes and all that kind
of stuff. So what do youdo, man? I put honey in
it on the weekend. Honey onthe weekend, But I don't do it
during the week Why no, honey. Honey's okay, but it's sweet.
(03:00):
It's like there's a lot of sugarand honey. I mean, it's natural,
but it's I love all of it. I love all the sugar,
I love all the artificial flavoring. The brighter After reading this, I oh,
really, yeah, why does itscare you that bad? Like anytime
we see any article of someone thatreached one hundred and ten years old,
they're smoking a sea. You knowwhat I mean. They're like I've been
(03:23):
having bacon and smoking all my life. I knew somebody, Okay, you
alright, always starting, alright, get an ash tray in here, But
do you know what you'd be likeold days in radio? Ask your dad
about those days. Yeah, Iwasn't even around for that, but a
bunch of bob back in the dayshaving it here. Do you ever smoke?
(03:44):
No, not that I know, tom selbody was both having heaters,
probably never probably were orse drinking beers. It's drinking beers worse. I'm just
I'm just adding to it. Okay, I just figured, I just I
think the old days of radio areprobably pretty cool. I don't really want
to get into all the cocaine snortingand marijuana, but it's the podcast.
(04:05):
I guess we could talk about whatever. I knew somebody that was in med
school and he had just learned aboutthis, and I cannot, like,
I could not possibly explain it theway that he did. But it was
um. He explained why the artificialsweeteners like what you would find in like
a diet coke versus real coke thathas real sugar in it. Um.
(04:27):
He explained the differences and something abouthow our body processes it, and it
almost like tricks it in a wayto secrete something that's bad for you.
Basis, can I ask something realquick? Out on the side, she
talks about the words secrete or shesecretes something out of the I say it
(04:50):
at least one in here. Secreteis really gross? That work. You've
got a tough what its forgot alittle bit? She's like, forces are
who wants You're too easily offended byLike, I'm not that. No,
I just choose not to secrete. There's something about you and like bodily fluids,
(05:15):
you gotta get over. Oh yeah, everybody just loves to vomit every
day, love to vomit. Ijust love making you go work. Wait,
so go back to what you weresaying, something about secretion. Yeah,
yes, so it's something. Ithas something to do I think with
your pancreas. I could not possiblyeven attempt to explain it because I'm not
(05:38):
that smart. But doesn't it alsotell you that you're hungry when you're not.
Yeah, it doesn't really drink moreas a result, like one can
of diet something isn't enough. Yeah, because of the crap that's in there.
Makes you want to have more, like makes you thirsty or whatever.
Probably that with the carbonation. It'ssomething like that. Yeah, dude,
we just shoot you know from thehip in here. We don't. We're
not experts. I don't know anything. We just do a podcast all the
(06:00):
other non expert podcasts. Um.But there is something too, the study.
And I think it all starts reallyearly on in life. It's all
about upbringing. I think if you'reused to having sweets growing up, you're
you're hooked on sweets probably for therest of your life. God bless my
parents. But if you don't.I have a son, some stuff is
(06:20):
just too much. Um my eldestson, Like he won't put any dressing
on a salad, which is justto me, dry lettuce, dry lettuce,
eat dry salts all the time. You just put some tomatoes in there.
It gives you some oystery. Fine, but you're missing out on ranch
in Catalina and French and every gloriousdressing that's ever been created, even vinegarette.
(06:46):
Yeah, my god, I ama condiment queen that while I I
could have without the food, hedoesn't like other things like other condiments,
isn't he very But he's not. He's not ultra picky. He doesn't like
tacos, that's what I thought, tacos, and he likes hamburger. I
mean, like you'll have a burgeron tacco night. We just throw a
(07:06):
couple of patties on and that's weirdand he has We'll just take that meat
and turn them into burgers. Whatabout sweets? Are your kids into sweets?
Are not? Really? Not toomuch? No? Like we uh,
we raised them really without a lotof sweets. Sweets was like just
a we didn't deprive them, becauseI call that kind of abusive if you
(07:27):
don't let your kids have a treathere and there. So we grew up
with the ice cream. They hadcandy bars and stuff, but they weren't
inundated with it. And they didnot have sodas I'm up to this day.
So the truth behind this is theydon't crave sodas and they don't crave
sweets, like a lot of otherpeople said. They say in this study,
if you start without sweets and stuff, and you don't sweeten a lot
(07:48):
of your your your drinks, andyou don't have a lot of sodas as
a kid, you won't have theissues that a lot of other kids have.
Unless it's like, wow, man, I have been missing out.
But it's like an overload. Youtaste some of this stuff and it's like,
dang, that's just too sweet andyou that's like my eldest son can't
you know, It's just some stuffis just way too sweet. He hates
(08:09):
like, I'm not going to pickon brands, but some of the real
mild brands of soft drinks, it'sjust much. It's like too powerful.
The carbonation is weird. Which carbonationisn't good for you. He can't stand
carbonation. So that's I'm the same. So I didn't have pop when I
was young because I the carbonation hurtmy throat too much. And so now
even when I order a drink,if it has popp in it, I
(08:31):
have no ice. That's what itdoes with him too. Yeah, it
affects his throat. He doesn't likethat feeling. This esophagus. You can
tell, Like if we go toa stadium, they won't some of them
they come with ice already in it, and I won't ask them to remove
it. I don't want to bethat person. But the next day my
voice will hurt, not weird.Still, my throat will hurt if I
have that carbonation. Yeah, soI try not to have it. I
actually really like carbonation, so wehaven't had an issue with that. But
(08:54):
it sounds like I kind of havea similar palette to your boys, where
I like, I don't really likesoda. I never early drink it.
I have like these little probiotic likethey're kind of like zoda but not really.
It's like a tea. Yeah yeah, yeah, and there's I think
they're super good, but they're notsuper sweet. So I don't like super
super sweet stuff. But I loveI do like things like cakes and muffins
and whatever. I like baking withfrost. Yeah, so I like making
(09:16):
those. But like in general,I'm I've never been like drawn toward junk
food really or um super sweet things, and I do things like eat dry
salads. And they have, um, they still have their Easter baskets and
all that candy, and they Ithink they had left over Halloween candy,
like not too long or not ina close proximity, I should say to
(09:39):
Easter. You know, they justI remember killing home plowing. Oh yeah
yeah, gone, that's that's theticket. If you want to stay away
from TECH two diabetes and other variousdiseases. You know, you raise your
kids away from this stuff, AndI mean, what's a lot of parents
try to do, but on ittakes us, you know, going over
to somebody else's house when of yoursix or seven old taste of that and
(10:01):
was like, oh, man hookeddaddy up. Well it's funny because like
my family, I feel like myfamily never ever kept us away from certain
foods or anything like that. Infact, I feel like my family always
had a lot of like really chunky, high calorie foods all the time.
And I think I almost was justlike turned off by it. It was
like you are a different egg inyour family. You are different, and
(10:22):
you're the first one as opposed tothe last one. Yeah. Yeah,
so you kind of set a standardthat nobody followed. I think, Gus,
you didn't set a standard. Youset a standard for yourself that nobody
followed. Well, my brothers alleat pretty healthy too. Like one of
my brothers works out a ton andeats like a ton of just fish.
I know, he eats a lotof fish and like good simple carbs or
(10:43):
whatever. So I feel like ingeneral, we all eat pretty healthy,
but my parents don't really I don'tknow, Like I don't know. We
were not restricted on what we couldeat. By the way, there's another
study out might get three. That'sso great for you, you know,
fish tablets and all that at fishoil, that too much of that makes
your heart skip. And I hadthat. I said that a few years
(11:05):
ago, and I'm gonna risk it. I'm risking it all with the sweets
and the oils, and that's supposedto be so good for you to help
with your Yeah, it's great foryour heart. But by the way,
I guess they say it's not likedamaging, but I don't get that because
they still it's so weird because theyhear you have a perfectly normal beating heart
(11:26):
and then it gets like an arrhythmiaor so what you think is bad But
you talked to some doctors, it'slike, oh, yeah, you have
some arrhythmia. But it's not well, it wasn't there two weeks ago.
What's going something? Well, no, some people just have it. Some
people just get it. It's like, well, no, this is wrong.
I want to fix it. Yeah, but um, I was really
heavy on the fish oil strong stuff, and my heart was all out of
(11:48):
whack. I mean, remember thatit was stopping every fourth beat. Is
that what that was from? Wethink it was either that or COVID.
It's probably COVID, maybe both. But when I stopped the fish oil Quinn
incidentally it was about the same timeand the wrapping up the COVID thing.
Then it all went away. NowI'm back doing fish oil like every few
days I take fish oil as opposedto every day. Okay, and my
(12:09):
heart seems to be beaten along.Just fun. You got a good ticker.
O. My god, you're doingmouth to mouth, not me.
What he doesn't need mouth tomorrow. If he died right then you got to
give him south here. You know. All you gotta do is like no
Kaya has dreams a kissing me.It's just really okay. I'm rembody past.
(12:33):
