(00:00):
They're going away and being replaced bywhat in this episode out I tell you,
what do you guys hang at themall? Ever? No, Mom,
I loved the Burnsville mall. Yeah, I like the original mall.
We used to walk around and liketry and be flirty with the bully.
I've never lived close enough to themall for it to be like a regular

(00:21):
hangout spot. Where did you go? Outlets of Albertville? Is I just
call it the Albertville Outlet mall?Is that what it's called now Albertville?
You might be right, You mightbe right. The might Maybe it's it's
probably changed. Maybe that's what it'sofficially called. I've just always called it
the outlet. But the mall yougo in the fountains, oh yeah,

(00:41):
you know, and all the stuff, and and then you know, you
look for girls hanging out and tryto be cool. They had Applebees that
was right there that we could havejust go in. Well, they're going
on, you guys know what Imean? The malls are. They're really
taking a hit, and a lotof them are not surviving. I love
a lot of them around here.I think we're in a climate where they'll
never really fully go away. Butmany of them are being replaced now by

(01:06):
indoor pickleball venues. That's awesome.I kind of like that. I think
things like pickleball or it could uh, I don't know. That's super interesting
because you also see like movie theatersI think, moving into becoming pickleball places
and then also acts throwing and whateverother thing they need big spaces for.
That's cool. At least they're usingit for something, you know, kind
of cool. Um bed bath andbeyond is now kind of a thing in

(01:30):
the past. More so, there'ssuch big buildings Sears, A lot of
Sears stores are gone. Jenny's gonnalook at think of all that square footage
that's being used for it's just sitting. Yeah, so now people are turning
into pickleball venues. But I've neverplayed pickleball, and pick a ball seems
like isn't that what like really oldpeople do? That's what I thought.

(01:52):
I don't know if used to belike the old person's sport growing up as
like the old people playing and thentell your woods came around. It's like
hello, golfing school for everybody. And I just I've never played pickleball.
I don't know the rules. Ofit. You can play doubles. I
think, is it a smaller court. It might be a little bit of

(02:12):
a smaller court, but it looksa lot like tennis in a way,
So I don't know how it couldbe like a total old person's board.
Is it like tennis and badminton, but like in the middle of it,
because the rackets are smaller right whenyou think about it, especially here if
there is a mall that does Imean there's probably a little more competition here

(02:35):
with pickle ball and the malls because, like I said earlier, the malls
being a state where we're indoors alot in the in the winter, our
winters are not for everybody. Andwhen you do go brave the thirty below
and go across the parking lot,you know that's where the malls are.
Because people still like the indoor mallsbecause you go shop and that kind of
stuff. All some are fading, but pickle balls right there, man,

(02:57):
they're ready to pick up that officespace or that you know, that shopping
space, retail space and turned itinto pick a ball courts. And it's
genius because so many people are playingthe game, and I mean, these
these people are making a ton ofmoney with pickaball leagues. Well then do
they set it up with like vendors, I guess, or like food vendors
inside or I feel like like I'mthinking about the burns of them all,

(03:20):
which right now I think has nothing. That part's gone. I mean unless
you go to a place. Iwent to a place that had everything,
and I don't know if it wasin an old mall or not. It
was an Oakdale and it was acouple of weeks ago, and it had
pick a ball and it had axethrowing at darts. I mean, had

(03:42):
this thing where that like this, you you put a hammer on a on
a blog, its just like dangerous. There's kids running around. It's like,
yeah, let's leave a hammer ona log, a heavy hammer with
my kids when they're a little bitget after that man um. But I
didn't notice a lot of little kidsin there, so maybe there was some
rule or something. I don't knoweither. I let's see, when I

(04:04):
grew up, it was Grand Slamwas the thing where you'd have the batting
cages and then like a pop putt, and that was kind of the thing,
I guess. And they're still aroundto a certain degree. But not
like they used to be. Allthe batting cages are popping up everywhere,
and they're right there. I haven'tseen. Yeah, and I used to
go all the time, but Iguess I don't know where it would go.
I was looking. I every timethat I hear people talk about pickleball,

(04:27):
I don't understand it because the namedoesn't make sense to me because I'm
like, there's no pickles involved, and so I searched. Yeah, it
searched, why is it called pickleball? So according to Barney McCallum, who
I think is involved in the beginningof pickleball, yeah, they named the
game after the guy, the guywho started it, Pritchard, Joel Pritchard.

(04:49):
They named it after his dog,who was named Pickles. That's her
pickaball game. Yeah, he'sa Despitethe sour taste of actual pickles, their
dog was sweet and known to runoff with the while it was still being
played. So they named it pickleball, which I actually makes me like the
sport more because that's kind of cute. I had no idea it is exactly
the same as tennis. I don'teven know I should before doing a podcast,

(05:11):
you think one would get on.But I just want to let everyone
know I'm as critical as anyone becauseI think there's still a ton of people
out there like me that no shallI say, have no clue how this
game works. It's a whiffleball.Did you know that it was a tennis
ball? No, it's not likea tennis ball, because I see people
whacking it pretty hard. Wow,the balls going anywhere like a tennis flaw,

(05:34):
like a tennis ball would tennis balllike you'd be out. There's no
way it could have a velocity ofa tennis ball. No, this one.
It looks like it's a slower pacedgame, and it does. All
the images have older people. ButI do know that there's young pickleball leagues.
And I just got hurt playing pickleball? Is it Jamie Fox? There
was somebody that I think got hurt. But somebody just got hurt playing pickleball.

(05:57):
It gets intense. Look at theselate odds on a showing. But
these ladies are going to town here, Yeah. They This article that I've
got that told me why it's calledpickleball goes into some of the reasons why
it's so popular too, like whypeople enjoy pickleball so it's inexpensive because you
don't really need a lot to beable to play it, super basic equipment.
Um. It's also the small courtsize makes it just easier for people

(06:21):
to get into it, even ifthey're not super athletic. Sure, so
that definitely is part of it.Well, you could probably put so smaller
than tennis, and you could probablyput a bunch of these things inside in
the moon and have had it inthe malls. I mean, at least
people are doing active things. Sittingby a water fountain looking at girls.
Okay, that was a good time. You can't knock that. That was

(06:43):
a classic time. It was partof my childhood. It was a rite
of pass. Something about the smellof them, all of the women,
not the women, like the chlorineand the water fountains, sniffing women and
they walked by. It was soweird. Not no, I thought,
you said, there's just something aboutthe smell of them all, smell of

(07:05):
the mall. I know that saidthat. I was like, dude,
you you do you you do knowI'm creepy. I try not to be
creepy. If I am creepy, then creepy on you. Where was I

(07:25):
