Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of I Tell You What Sam. Yes,
look over at our co host Dubbs. What you do?
Dumbs is over in another room. He's like in a
little nazerie over there. Can you hear me, Dubs? Yeah,
I can hear you. Okay, now everybody look at Dubbs.
You ready, I'm ready. Remember where Dubbs is from. Dubbs
was born and raised and oh no, southern Chicago. Okay,
(00:20):
this is what happened last night in Green Bay. It's
one of the Packers, all linebackers, kicking off the draft.
I'm gonna go.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Off script here real quick, Roger, But I just got
off the phone with the President, Donald Trump. He asked
me to pass the message.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Along till all thirty two NFL branchises.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Let me tell you what it reads here, all right.
It says, my fellow Americans, the Bear.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Still sick man, claim Matthews, Go pack claim Matthews, former
linebacker for the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I'm sorry, Roger, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Kicking off the draft last night with a rather impromptu message,
therefore singling out one team, the Chicago Bears. It was coming.
You had to know it was coming. Actually, it surprised me. Really, No,
I didn't know that they're going to do.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
There's going to be some kind of Bears hate.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Is there?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Always Bears hate Chicago and Green Bear. It's the oldest
rivalry in the They can't stand each other.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
They have more Do Chicago and Green Bay have more
of a rivalry than green Bay?
Speaker 1 (01:18):
All farm vikings? Yeah, dates way back, way way back.
And technically, if it wasn't for the Chicago Bears, I
don't think Green Bay would have a team. It was
like George Hallis saved that franchise way back in the day.
He and Curly Lambo. I think was the deal. Wait?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Does does Green Bay have rivalries with all of their neighborings?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Everybody but Wisconsin's over there. They're just across the river.
And that was for you, I mean they're over there.
Go yeah, I goosebumps material for for Packers fans last night.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Oh yeah, that's incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Are you excited? I am? Do Do you know who
Donovan is? Do you know who Donovan Jackson is? Yeah?
You do? Do you know who Donovan Jackson is? No,
that's Mike's picked last night his guard from Ohio State.
That's a pretty solid pie they need some protection from JJ. Yeah.
So it's just funny how all these people they're so
into this. This has become such a huge deal over
(02:14):
the years, and year after year after year, it just
gets bigger and bigger and bigger. Green Bay has a
population of what they say, one hundred and seven thousand.
The population more than doubled last night within hours alone
because of the draft, which is in Green Bay. It's
like it looked like it was in Lambeau's parking lot.
(02:35):
I think it was. And I don't know where everybody's
going to sleep. I mean, I don't know where everybody's
gonna go. It's a pilgrimage to Green Bay. I mean,
are they sleeping in the parking lot? What are they doing?
I mean, I'm glad it's not snowing over there because
you know it's April what twenty fifth? I mean it
could it does happen.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Can you imagine would be magical, by the way, because
that's Lambeau.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, but can you imagine how wild the entire town
of Green Bay for this just pretty much this whole
weekend just of people partying and just having a good
time because it's so funny to me when you go
to Lambeau and it's just like you've got Lambeau, which
is just this huge monstrosity.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
It's a great thing. I mean, it's an incredible state stadium.
Yeah yeah, I shouldn't say typical. It's historic, but yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, no, it's it's amazing. And then it's just like
neighborhoods around it, like this little normal home.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Those people around Lambeau are making serious banks. They musty rent.
They rent out their garages for thousands of dollars and
then they rent out their homes. That's what they do.
They bought those homes basically to rent out throughout the season,
and people come up and and just party in the
garage across from Lambou. A lot of people don't even
go to the game.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah, my wife's cousin her, uh his wife. She grew
up two blocks from lambell They still have the house
and everything.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Can you imagine the property. Here's this dinky little house
that they built back in the nineteen thirties and forties, right,
and it's yeah, I mean all property value pretty much
for the most part, goes up pretty drastically over time.
But you're positioned across from Lambeau, you know what I mean.
And to them, to a lot of people, being across
from a stadium would be one great big eye sore.
But but in Green Bay it's this landmark. It's Yeah,
(04:15):
there's a lot of people at buying homes probably and
the husband or the wife or whichever are going, look
what I bought. The other one's if they're not from there,
going what have you done? What is that? That's lambeau Field.
And if they're not familiar, so we're going to live
across from that? Yeah, and all these.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
People, I bet a house around lambeau Field probably is
more expensive or has more value than a house beachfront somewhere.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Lake if you look down there. I think if you
look at the actual like per capita, like the what
it took to build the house and what it grew
to in value, absolutely with.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Question, just massive talk about good location.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
That's an opportunity that really missed. Now it's too late now, right,
you know, just even if you're not a fan, just
buy something, just something across the street from Lambeau. I
mean back when the homes were you know, I don't know,
seventy thousand dollars like one point six million. It's just
little shack.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yes, pretty sweet, amazing.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
But the draft is just insane. Yeah, I mean I don't,
I couldn't. I don't know. I'm not as I love football.
I just don't know if I could sit in mass
humanity for hours upon hours about hours with limited bathrooms,
you know, and everybody drinking.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Do you think that people?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
I know, it's no different than a game, but this
is three days of it. I just don't think stuff
like that.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Do you think that people who go to something like
that prepare themselves the way that some people go to
like a tailors.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yes, yeah, absolutely. Or if you're a guy, you probably
just go where you're standing a lot of times. Yeah, yeah,
in a beer bottle. Yes, it happens cross Yeah, I
know it is. I'm not making it up. I mean,
guys are very resourceful when they have to where they've
had a few and they got to go.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Is that what you do when you're in a big crowd.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I wouldn't put it bass me. I mean no, I
I don't think I could. No, my kidneys are too shy.
But it's just a big deal and it's like there's
nothing anybody can do about it. I mean, they draft
who they draft right most of the time. You know,
there's nothing you can do about that. There's nothing a
fan can do about it. I mean, you can cheer
on your team at games, you can yell, you can scream,
(06:18):
you can get it out. You can yell at the
coach and scream at the players and feel like you're
making a difference. When you're at the draft, you're sitting
around waiting for your team, and then they wait. Sometimes
they'll pass up their peck or it'll trade, and then
you get to wait maybe a round or two for
your team to come back around. Then you're just sitting
on your hands.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
But I think that a lot of it, though, is
not just being excited about what's happening with the draft,
but also just the fact that it's been a long
winter and people miss football too. I mean, I know
it was.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Only two months ago.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, but you get a little break and then you
get excited about the new NFL season and the new
players coming in. So I think part of it is
not just being there to witness the draft. It's also
just to be able to party it up with people
who care about another thing that you care a lot.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
I get that but if I like it enough, I'll
watch it like I did last night, for two hours,
get the Vike's pick, and then go to bed. That's true,
that's just. It's just hey man, it's a tweet their
own world. Some people are into it.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah, I went to the Draft when it was in Chicago,
the back to back years.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Did you back when the Bears still sucked? Yep, I
still do. It happens. Thank you for listening to this episode
