Hey guys, good morning Gary.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
What's wrong with wearing jeans all the time?
Speaker 4 (00:13):
Think it's weird?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Look at you?
Speaker 4 (00:14):
You're wearing a worse feetle were in Hawaii.
Speaker 5 (00:18):
Okay, you're saying it's weird.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Whatever, man to wear.
Speaker 5 (00:22):
Jeans while you're working out.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Whatever. Man, that's that's what I was saying that.
Speaker 5 (00:26):
That's the weird part. But you can wear whatever he wants.
I'm just saying for me, it'd be weird.
Speaker 6 (00:31):
Hey, Shannon, have you tried the hot funny ritz Crackers?
They're pretty good too.
Speaker 5 (00:37):
Oh great on the new Ritz Crackers new bedtime snacks
for Shan. Shan over there?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Wow, oh those do look good?
Speaker 5 (00:49):

That's three one oh two nine nine ninety nine sixteen.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeh, I was just checking the progress of Hurricane Erain,
moving closer to the eastern seaboard. There they're worried about
the rip currents, which are super deadly. Evacuation orders have
been in place for days in some place as states
of emergency in two counties in North Carolina. Let's see here,
it is moving about nine miles per hour. It's got
(01:41):
wins of one hundred and five miles per hour. That
is a big drop from yesterday, yesterday's figure of one
hundred and forty miles per hour. But it's gonna regain
some strength, they say, and get even larger. It's not
expected to make landfall, But like I said, it's those
rip currents that they're worried about. Large waves of fifteen
to twenty feet or higher on the shoreline along with
(02:05):
storm surge. So the conditions are going to be a
mess next thirty six hours. Here, looking at the timetable,
it looks like today around well actually right now is
where you're going to see the storm surge make the waves.
In Florida, Miami working its way up there, and then
(02:28):
two am it looks like when things are going to
start getting crazy for Georgia, South Carolina, and then North Carolina,
which is closest. That's why you're going to see all
those evacuation orders there. Tomorrow eight ams about five am
hour time is when North Carolina will take the brunt
of that all day tomorrow ps.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Not good.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
No.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
As President Trump tries to figure out what's going to
be the end game for the Russia's war in Ukraine,
theytions about what's going to happen to all the Ukrainian
territory that Russia currently holds. There is a map that
exists that shows a lot of Russian held territory in
(03:14):
the eastern part of Ukraine, and whether there is some
sort of land swap, land concessions, whichever term you want
to use, it appears that Ukraine is going to have
to give up some of what was its territory, at
least pre twenty fourteen territory. Twenty fourteen, of course, is
(03:36):
when Putin designed an incursion that they attacked and separated
the Crimean Peninsula from the rest of Ukraine, So they
don't know exactly what it is. What maps they're working with,
but that is going to be the biggest topic of
discussion when it comes to ending whatever war. Whatever the
(03:56):
war end looks like.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Valley fever is back.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Cases of a valley fever, of course, caused by a
fungus common in some areas of California. The cases are
on the rise, over fifty five hundred cases reported in
the first six months of the year. Now that's in
comparison the year two thousand, there were fewer than a thousand.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Cases the whole year.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
So it is the fungus that grows in the soil
and the dirt, most common in the Central Valley Central Coast.
The symptoms are similar to those of covid or the flu,
but these things can lead to some severe lung infections,
including pneumonia. As some doctors have said, if you get it,
(04:51):
you're not going to live normally. It's very scary. The
kind of very wet, dry pattern definitely is perfect for
this fungus to grow.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Yeah, and like you said, it's not something that goes away.
This can be a lingering illness that you deal with
for the rest of your life. Cocksidio domakosis. We have
a woman who used to work with us.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Took a job in the country, No, took a job
in TV up in the central valley somewhere and got
this and it just completely after up for a young
person too.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Newsmax is going to pay sixty seven million dollars to Dominion
Voting Systems to set a lawsuit over the coverage of
the twenty twenty election. Dominion brought the lawsuit against Newsmax.
Trial was scheduled to begin in October. This settlement is
in place now. Dominion is the same company that got
US seven hundred and eighty seven million dollars settlement from
(05:49):
Fox because of the coverage of twenty twenty. Dominion basically
was the scapegoat for a lot of the theories that
that the election had been stolen and that Dominion Voting
Systems either allowed or made possible or was even in
on changing a bunch of votes. Sidney Powell was promoting that.
(06:14):
You remember Sidney Powell, Sure, mich Lindell, of course, of
my pillow. News Max announced the settlement in a filing
that just came out last week.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Uh, let's see the new words. You want to talk
about the new words in the dictionary.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Everybody always likes to talk about the new additions to
the dictionary.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
I sound like ken champeau. Gibbety skibbitty is what is that?
A slang term that can mean cool, bad, or sometimes
nothing at all.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
If I ever say skiddy bee, skiddy bey, sigibbity gibbity,
not being ironic, plow my head into that wall right there.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Your wish is my command.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
De Lulu, I've heard this on the on the garbage
television I watched De Lulu. I think I first heard
about that on Love Island. Old described self, describe yourself
as I can be a little bit. The lulu means delusional,
trad wife, traditional wife. People love to be a trad
wife or they hate on the trad wifs. Either you
(07:13):
are proud to be it or you look down on it.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
And Luke, what's luke? L e wk?
Speaker 2 (07:22):
L e wk? Is that like luke? Like like your fashion?
Bless you? Bless you? Is there a third one?
Speaker 6 (07:29):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
No, no good, because.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
That I would have given myself valley fever.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Well here's the thing. You were a too neat. It's happening,
isn't it?
Speaker 2 (07:39):
The third one? No, you made it go away.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
You made it go away.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
You used to be a two sneeze person, and over
the past six months or so, you've evolved into a
three sneeze person.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
I'm telling you, when you get to be my age,
is that what it is? Let it happened? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Are you going to be like one of those old
people that sneezes like eight times in a row.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
No, it's just I'll be able to produce more when
I sneeze.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Pretty small. What okay, you know what. I don't even
know where that's going. I don't want to know, all right.
Speaker 8 (08:09):
For pineapple casserole using ritz crackers, and it is awesome.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
You gotta try it.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
You can eat a pineapple casserole while you're a snuggled
up in the old bed there.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I feel like that's just a waste of ritz crackers,
you know, to put vegetables in them, our fruits?
Speaker 6 (08:34):
All right?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I just take them straight.
Speaker 9 (08:36):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
It's like why mix in?
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Why have a mixer when you can just go for
the straight ritz crackers.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
The easy cheese on that ritz cracker.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Maybe now you're talking.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Now you're talking, what is that stuff called the cheese whiz?
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Yeah? Yeah, easy cheese cheese with same same petroleum product,
different can same diabetes.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
I do have a good news story.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
This is yes, let's get it goodness.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
There is an experimental cancer vaccine that has shown some
promising results in keeping cancers from coming back, specifically looking
at pancreatic and colorectal cancers. Researchers from UCLA tested this
vaccine on twenty five patients, so it's a small study,
but they'd previously been treated for pancreatic and or colorectal cancers,
and they found this vaccine could trigger lasting immune responses
(09:32):
and may actually help prevent or delay cancer recurrence even
in those higher risk patients. Specifically's tumors are driven by
a CRAS mutation responsible for about half of all the
coorectal cancers more than ninety percent of pancreatic cancers, so
some significant progress being made those in those worlds.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
The LA Times dove into the ever popular topic of
the worst freeways in Southern Californi. And we all have
our bugaboos, our favorite least favorite roadways, and we asked
you what yours are?
Speaker 10 (10:08):
Hey, Gary and Shannon, Absolute worst freeway east or west
is the two ten through Pasadena.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
It's horrible. I've made the mistake of There was one
time I was driving out for a tournament in Palm
Springs Cathedral City on a Friday afternoon. Oh driving through that, Yeah,
that probably was about a five and a half hour adventure.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
The two ten is a complete disaster on a Friday.
Now I drive it every day. I drive it both
ways every day. And I will tell you this, if
you hit it early enough, it will be kind.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
It will be kind, not perfect.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
It will not be perfect, but it will be kind.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
If you hit the two ten in Pasadena after say
two thirty three o'clock on a Friday afternoon, You're screwed.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
You are screwed. You've got to leave early. You just
have to.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
You got to you got hey, Gary and Shannon.
Speaker 8 (11:04):
The traffic problem, Yeah, used to be it takes an
hour to get from San Diego to Temecula northbound fifteen.
Now it takes an hour to get from Temecula to Temecula.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
Traffic Temecula.
Speaker 8 (11:19):
It's ridiculous. But I know I'm almost home in Temecula
when I have people tailcating me two inches for my
bumper have a great day.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
That might be me. I apologize Garyan Shannon.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
My experiences with the driving.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Let's see the ninety one anytime heading towards Orange.
Speaker 11 (11:41):
County in the morning is just miserable.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Even in carpooling is horrible.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
And then the.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Same thing, and back on the ninety one after.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
An Angel's game and back in the riverside of horrible.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
Oh but have we outlived our our carpool lanes. I
mean it just it feels. I don't know if they
work or not.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I enjoyed driving in them.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
That's my point. It's people like you that make it.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
You get out of bed with all the crumbs from
your crackers and you get in your solo vehicle in
the carpool, and you ruin life.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
For all that melted ice cream driven.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Down your chest.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
He does.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
It's carry from Santa Clarita.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
I cannot believe that no one has mentioned the fourteen Freeway.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
It is the worst. It's all these people pissed off
that they have to live in Lancaster and work in
Los Angeles and they drive like.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Absolute bats out of hell.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
It is bananas on that freeway.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Anyway, Love your show.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Have a great day.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
Thank you for that. I appreciate it. You got a
fourteen not fun, that's so true.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
I don't drive it very much unless I'm going up to.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
You drive it once a year. Yes, basically I enjoy it.
Though it's beautiful, it can be in May, it's it's
better because it's still usually a little green from the springtime.
Right about now is it's all brown?
Speaker 9 (13:03):
Hi, guys. I love taking the two forty one all
the way from South Orange County which is about Coto
de Caza to the ninety one. It's such a beautiful drive.
Not because there's no traffic, because obviously you have to
pay for that, it's a toll road, but because it's
such a beautiful view. The mountains is dis gorgeous. And
then obviously once you get to the ninety one, vacation's
(13:25):
over and it's a mess. So anyways, thank you guys,
love you bye.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
Thank you again. The love youse. Are people just saying
it because they don't mean it? Because I'm going to
start believing it here in a second.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Well, Dean Sharp came in earlier this week or was
that last week, and he told us that he loved us.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yeah, and but I believe him, do you? I think so.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
I mean, we've known Dean for for a while, but
not to the point.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Of it's been ten years of love. Dean has not
been here the whole time we've been here, has he?
Speaker 1 (13:58):
For d D I'm close, but we only see We've
only seen him a handful of times. Used to come
in and we used to break stuff on our show
with Dean.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
We didn't break it, you bro.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Traffic y'all la people O C people, I E people. Yeah,
us people down here in the SD aka San Diego
fifteen North at the seventy eight.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Oh good lordy.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
But you know, the construction that's been going on seems
like for ever.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
That's the thing, you uh. The thing with Dean Sharp, though,
is I feel that. Like when I'm listening to his
show right before I'm getting ready for pregame for the
Chargers because the Chargers are back on KFI, I think
to myself, hold for applause.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
I think to myself, I love Dean Sharp.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
He's soothing. His show's nice. He seems to care about people.
It's genuine.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
It's a nice change.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
It's a very nice I think I believe him.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yeah, Hey, guys, having from Anaheim. My most hate detection
of roadway California is the short little stint on Kaitella
between the fifty seven Freeway and State College Boulevard. A
night's like tonight where there's an Angels game. It will
take me sometimes in excess of forty five minutes to
get through those three lights because people keep blocking the intersections.
Speaker 7 (15:13):
I absolutely hate it, and.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
It's the reason why I'll be moving out at the
end of my lease show.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Guys, see you Thursday. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
How many people do you think that guy's killed just
because of those three stoplights?
Speaker 5 (15:22):
Think there's a little light an Angels game.
Speaker 11 (15:25):
Hello, Gary and Shannon. This is Jason. I'm a local
truck driver here in southern California, and I would say
that the worst stretch of highway the drive would be
the fifteen north or south, depending on where you're at.
You have the junctions ninety one, sixty ten and the
two ten, which an absolute nightmare during mid days and
(15:48):
sometimes there are early evening hours. Yeah, heleave your show,
Have a great day.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
Thankyobye I okay? Love Hey.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Gary and Shannon's Rick from sankle Many.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
Gotta let you know that the.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
Worst the worst freeway is wherever there's a Prius or
a Tesla.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
On it lane, I totally am that guy.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
It evolved from the Prius to the Tesla right like
twenty years ago. It's like, ah, it's a Prius driver
because they just acted like they were better than everybody.
And they still do and their cars are janky af right,
they're giants.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
They're still in the original They're in the.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Original Prius and they still act like they're better than you.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
I'm like, bro, that car is from two thousand.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
And two, but anyway, and the windows are all steamy
for some reason. On the inside there's always some weird
condensation going on.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Yes, And then now it's the Tesla people and they
and I think this is all in our heads for
all of us that do this, but maybe it's not.
Maybe they all think they're better than us. But I
have the same vibe with the Tesla people. And I
and like, a Chevy truck will cut me off and
I'll think nothing of it.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
I'll be like, yeah, you can cut that's Freedom's America.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
We're cool. Uh. Tesla cuts me off and it's like, oh,
there you go again. You know your time's better than mine.
It's so much more valuable.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Cut you off on the way out of the parking
lot today.
Speaker 10 (17:15):
Okay, I had to jump on the cracker commentary bandwagon.
The best combination is chicken in a biscuit, crackers with
easy cheese, specifically the American cheese flavored.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Oh yes, easy cheese. I agree, So give it a shot. Guys,
wait a minute, it's been a while.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
You might be onto something. The chicken in a biscuit
with salami easy cheese as the glue to hold the
salami off.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
I don't mix my meats and my cheeses, and I
know it's it's something that I've never done. I don't
miss I have my cheese separately from my meats. If
I'm going to hit up a chicken in the biscuit,
I'm going to put a slice of salami on there.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
I like the thing.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
I like to get a log of salami, you know,
and cut it kind of thick.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
I don't like the thinly sliced salami all the time.
So I'll put like a nice, solid, thick piece of
salami on that chicken and a biscuit.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
You gotta slice it yourself.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
That is what it's two different worlds by.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Thick sliced salami or you got to do that yourself.
I like to cut it myself. You go a little bit,
you go a little bit fatter than than other than
a machine would. Yes, yeah, I agree with you. Yes,
thank you, Thank you for agreeing with me. I'm a
I'm listen, I'm a I'm a cured meats guy took.
Even a gentleman of my age should probably avoid them.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
But yeah, maybe you know nitrates, nitrites? Who gives you
almost just said a bad word.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I like what the meat spring out of you.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
Hoping for some more details coming out of DC about
the meeting that is being worked on now between President
Putin of Russia and President Zelenski of Ukraine. Of course,
this comes after the big meeting yesterday between Trump and
Zelenski and the European leaders at the White House. No
sooner though, did that meeting wrap up, than Russia launched
(19:09):
a new wave of missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian
cities overnight. Energy infrastructure was probably the target, according to
Ukrainian media.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Well, it's life in prison for the monster who murdered
those four University of Idaho students, breaking it into that house,
stabbing those kids as they slept. Well, now we're hearing more.
We're hearing more about what was in his phone when
he was captured. We're also hearing about what the surviving
roommates heard him say that night.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
It's where we kick off True Crime Tuesday. The story
is true true, No, it sounds made up.
Speaker 7 (19:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
Barry and Shannon present True Crime Microphone. The blue button
right there, you'll want the blue one. The blue one
turns it off.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
We have a special guest here today.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
This is exciting.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
We've got a true crime podcast here on iHeartRadio and
this is a live radio show five nights a week
talking about all things true crime and just write up
all of our alleys.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
Stephanie Leidaker is one of the hosts along with Courtney
Armstrong and Body Moving. And Stephanie is the I guess
the nicest one out of the three. Because Stephanie's going
to join us and talk more about this. Hey, first
of all, thanks for taking time for us today.
Speaker 6 (20:46):
I am so happy to be with you guys right now.
I can't even say it, but I have to. I'm
such a fan, So it's really I'm psyched to be here.
And we love Oscar obviously as well, he's dead. We're
under nicer circumstances with nicer stories to talk about.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
First of all, do you love the show like everyone
else does, because we've been getting a lot of love
on the shows. Listen, I have an attention problem.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Maybe yes, you did. All right, you don't have to.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
We're going to twelve and yeah, so don't expect me
not to fangirl out. And yeah, True Crime tonight it's
on nightly and we get to kind of unpack in
a looser way some of these really hard cases that
look we cover in the news, but also kind of
more of more of a chitchat, kind of a gather
(21:38):
around the kitchen table, kind of a podcast and radio show.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
So Stephanie, you have been on this Brian Koberger case
from the beginning. In fact, I mean you're still on it.
There's still new content coming out. It seems like I
think I referred to it as a treasure trove of
horror earlier, and what we're finding in his phone recently,
what the surviving roommates heard him say that night specifically
(22:04):
about the people he killed.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Is wild, it is, and it's really it's scary stuff, right,
this is the kind of thing that scary movies are
based on. The Lone Killer. You know, we know now
that Brian Coberger had no connection whatsoever to the four victims,
that it seemed perfectly random in case they doesn't know
(22:25):
the case. You know, he was a PhD student studying
criminology and was really studying what he ultimately got accused
of and has now pled guilty to. He will never
see the light of day. But because he didn't go
to trial, which we were all expecting him to, we're
getting these unsealed documents from law enforcement that we normally
(22:46):
wouldn't have access to unless, of course, there was a trial.
So yeah, it's it's pretty mind blowing. In his phone,
you know, you bring that up as an example, Yeah,
what he had on his phone just sort of speaks
to weird the end. And you know, there seemed to
have been many tells in reports, whether it was by
students or people who were on faculty at the university
(23:10):
he was studying at. There were reports of you know,
him being a potential predator.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
So some of these photos that he did not delete
on his phone before his arrest. I would think a
lot of narcissistic evidence here of half naked selfies of him,
women in various states of undress, very little clothing at all,
some who were completely naked. None of these images were
(23:40):
actually taken by him. These were all just files that
he found on the internet and saved them. The only
thing he typical kind of male fashion. The only thing
he seemed interested in taking pictures of other themself was
his car.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
Yeah, exactly, his car, which became such a centerpiece in
this case, and also himself. So listen, it's getting kind
of referenced as American psycho, if you will.
Speaker 9 (24:06):
Right.
Speaker 6 (24:06):
So, this is a guy that was bullied when he
was young, didn't really have any friends, raised by a
really nice family by all accounts, and we've interviewed so
many people around him growing up. He was always weird
and he was struggling with his weight. And now here
he is, he's getting his PhD student, he's feeling, you know,
(24:27):
confident for the first time. Perhaps again we're inferring this,
but just him taking pictures of himself sort of flexing
in the mirror, and you know, the stuff that was
on his you know, phone and things that he was
searching was essentially girls that had been drugged and were
passed out. That was the kind of pornography he was
(24:47):
actually searching for. So this was a lone guy who
was kind of lurking in the background, which is like,
let's face it, everybody's biggest fear.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Stephanie, hang on, because we want to talk to you
about this name that he may have called out the
night of the murders, because that may actually give us
an idea as to why since he didn't ever have
to explain it, this may be the closest wherever going
to come to a motive on that. Stephanie Leidaker one
of the hosts of True Crime Tonight, both the live
show that airs Sunday through Thursdays and a bunch of
different radio stations around the country, but also you can
(25:17):
find it True Crime Tonight dot iHeart dot com or
just search true Crime Tonight on the iHeartRadio app. For
the podcast, we'll continue in just a moment.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Talking to Stephanie Lydecker.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
She hosts a true crime podcast right here. It's called
True Crime Tonight on iHeartRadio, and she has been following
the Brian Cooberger case from go. It's an extensive reporting
and podcasting on this and we continue to get new
information about this monster.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
And one of the bits that has come.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Out is, and which which I've found fascinating from the
beginning as well, that there were people that were in
the same house that saw and heard things, didn't really
know what those things were, didn't put it all together
of course until the end. And as you mentioned, Stephanie,
this was a seemingly random attack.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
He did not know these people.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
However, one of the bits that came out was that
he did say one of the victim's names.
Speaker 6 (26:27):
Yeah, And that's been wildly reported and a little debated,
even just like up to this last couple of hours.
Even People magazine Chris Spargo, tremendous journalist, reported that the
name Kaylee, who is one of the blonde victims of
the four, Kaylee Gonzalveez, that her name was called and
that the male voice we now know to be Brian Coburger,
(26:50):
the monster and the killer basically were saying Kaylee is okay,
I'm here to I'm going to help you or I'm
here to help you. But since then the Statesman in
Ohio and the Idaho Statesman rather and even law enforcement
has sort of taken that back. I guess there were
some conflicting reports by one of the surviving roommates at
the time, so either it could have been Kayley. It
(27:12):
also was reported that it was Xanna, who is the
dark haired roommate who was there with her boyfriend, and
law enforcement is now saying there was no name at all,
So it's confusing, but we do know this. A female
was crying, for sure, and every version of this story,
and also that Brian Cooberger did in fact say you know,
(27:33):
it's okay, I'm going to help you or I'm here
to help you, which again speaks to the sicko nature
of this.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
I just wanted to ask you about this because this
just came out yesterday, I think, a ten second video
that surfaced mysteriously on social media from his cell and
now there's this whole investigation into the Bureau of Corrections
in Idaho about who leaked this video, Was it a
prison guard, all of the things?
Speaker 6 (27:59):
Yeah, and like, look it's two part one. Did somebody
get paid off to give that video to the press. Also,
it's also being debated was it. Ai doesn't feel as
though that's the case. But that might not actually be
his cell. It might actually be a holding area that
he was in at some point, because look, it looks
really big and kind of you know, fancy all things
(28:19):
considered for this monster. This is a guy that was
looking at death and because he pled, he now gets
to live his life out in this maximum security but
you know prison. However, he's getting kind of tortured there
a little bit, we're told, and he's complaining about not
being able to sleep.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
I thought about that when he was stabbing and killing
his mother and.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
His father exactly the way. The mother is an interesting
part of the story too. We're really curious about her. Think,
you know, we've been around it. But he did call
her all the time, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Didn't mean to cut you off, I know, not at all.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
I hope you dig into this because I can't wait
to hear your reporting on it, because I'm fascinated by
her as well, the way her behavior was in the courtroom.
I mean, you know, I always talk mothers and sons.
It's an interesting relationship. Mother's very protective over their sons,
and this one was to the NS degree.
Speaker 6 (29:17):
To the NS degree, and he lived at home for
a really long time. So by all accounts, he was
raised by a lovely mother and like lovely sisters. But yeah,
it's like there's got to be something in the sauce, right.
So we have our podcast, The Idaho Massacre Season three
dropping tomorrow also on iHeart, where we do a real
deep dive into now these new documents as well as
(29:38):
interviews with family members, law enforcement after the fact. So
it's sort of we always knew it was. We thought
maybe it was going to be Brian Colberger. We did
a documentary on Peacock airing now about it. But you know,
we could improve it now that this guy has confessed.
The gloves are off because we need to study him.
It's like every red flag possible. And yeah, with he
(30:01):
actually targeting one of the girls, it doesn't appear so,
but it does appear that he was lurking around them,
and based on his phone, probably lurking at a lot
of girls.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Stephanie Leidecker, one of the hosts of True Crime Tonight.
