Gary & Shannon are joined by KFI’s Michael Monks to break down a newly revealed FBI investigation that thwarted an alleged terror plot targeting Los Angeles around New Year’s. Monks walks through what authorities say was planned, how the suspect was identified, and what ultimately stopped the attack — while separating confirmed facts from speculation.

The hour also opens the phones for talkbacks, as listeners share personal stories about struggling with mental health and substance abuse, adding a powerful and human layer to the conversation.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to KFI
AM six forty, the Gary and Shannon Show on demand
on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
More in my pig hat today.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
It's a sweet hat.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
It's my pig hat from Joe's Barbecue in Kansas, Diriston.
One twelve style trucker cap. Yeah, great top and white
back and a rubber pig on it. Yeah, it's pretty cool.
Feel pretty good about it. How do you not feel
good going about your day with a pig on your hat?

Speaker 4 (00:29):
I don't know if anybody's ever asked such a question before.
US military says it has struck three more alleged drug
boats in the Eastern Pacific, killing eight people. In a
post on X, Southern Command said the strikes were made
at the direction of the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth
and the Joint Task Force Southern spear He and Secretary

(00:52):
of State Marco Rubio were actually on Capitol Hill today
briefing lawmakers on some of those deadly US strikes off
the coast of Venice Way. The unedited version of the
September second double tap strike that's generated so much controversy
is apparently scheduled to be shown to Senate and House

(01:12):
leaders tomorrow. Police have been going door to door in Providence,
Rhode Island, right along the path of the shooter at
Brown University as he left that school. Investigators have released
some new video today of the suspect walking away from
campus from several different surveillance and doorbell cameras after shot

(01:33):
and killed two people and injured nine others on that
campus on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Michael Monks has joined us.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
He is on top of this alleged terrace bombing plot
in Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
At the FBI says it disrupted.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
We talked a little bit about this yesterday, the FBI
calling it a massive and horrific terror plot by this
anti government extremist group. Michael, what are you and knowed
anymore digging on this Turtle Island Liberation front.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well, it seemed like crisis averted because because this does
seem like some very serious charges and the evidence points
to the facts that these suspects were out in the
Mojave desert literally assembling bombs to test them out in
the desert before they came back here for New Year's
Eve attacks.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I'm surprised law enforcement didn't catch up to them out there,
a lot of guys out there Cern Valley.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Well, that's where they arrested them. That's where the FBI
swats team got.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
But you know, I mean, there's a lot of people
in the community. The lawnforce, it goes out to the
desert and just blows in out here.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, maybe they traded some secrets, may have been good bait.
I don't know, because we don't know all of the
circumstances that that led to the arrest. But we do
know a lot. We know that this Turtle Island Liberation
Front was being surveiled for a while in recent weeks
by federal authorities. Local law enforcement also involved in this
and ultimately listened in on a meeting they had in

(02:51):
person and downtown Los Angeles got the information that they
needed and busted them out in the desert. Keep in mind,
this was a group of four people that were part
of this Turtle Island Liberation Front, but a more extreme
sect within that. They call themselves the Order of the
Black Lotus.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
The Exclusive Club within the Exclusive Club.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
If you see their photos, you can see that they
must have exclusive, very very exclusive club. And there's a
fifth person that is allegedly part of this ring, but
was not planning to attack here in Los Angeles, was
instead arrested in New Orleans. What do in New Orleans
and Los Angeles have in common in recent months? However,
it's the increase in immigration enforcement that we've seen here.

(03:37):
Back in June, we saw that in New Orleans, and
we heard from federal prosecutors yesterday that beyond the New
Year's Eve attacks, the alleged plans of this group was
to go after federal immigration agents. What do we know
about these people? Yeah, it's not a lot. I mean,
this is not a group that was in our regular vocabulary.
You know, this isn't a Facebook page that you follow

(03:57):
for updates on a local organization that's doing stuff out
in the community. So really not a whole lot, except
for the way that First Assistant US Attorney Bill A.
Salely described them as anti government, anti capitalist. I thought
it was important to highlight a couple of exchanges that
took place in this news conference to show the delicate

(04:21):
balancing act that local law enforcement have to walk when
they're dealing with local elected officials and the federal representatives
of the Trump administration. Because First Assistant US Attorney Bill A.
Sale highlighted that this is a left wing group. We
were told by Trump to go after left wing groups.
But Sheriff Robert Luna is standing behind him. Chief Jim

(04:42):
McDonald's standing behind him. These guys have to stand behind
Mayor Karen Bass, Supervisor Lindsay Horvath in news conferences that
are completely different. I cut a couple of clips if
you'd like to hear what I see as an interesting
dichotomy in their remarks yesterday.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
This investigation was initiated. This is BILI due to the
September tw five executive order signed by President Trump Trump
to root out left wing domestic terror organizations in our country,
such as Antifa and other radical groups like the Turtle
Island Liberation Front. As the President made clear, recent attacks

(05:18):
across the country have highlighted the grave threats posed by
these far left domestic terror groups.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
These threats are.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
Sophisticated, organized campaigns of targeted intimidation, radicalization, threats, and violence
designed to silence opposing speech, limit political activity and direct
policy outcomes, and prevent the proper functioning of a democratic society.

Speaker 6 (05:45):
Vigils whose goal is to divide us, to instill fear,
and to target the very diversity that makes our country strong.
I want to be very clear what you see here,
this investigative work and the follow up that's been done,
shows that they will not succeed. Our community's diversity is
our strength, and protecting every member of our community is

(06:08):
our primary duty.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Bill A.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Sale is audibly kissing the ring of President Trump. He
is in a political position whereas the law enforcement officers
are not well.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
He wants the attention of the President. That's what BILLI.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Saily does every time he takes the microphone, and it's
obvious and it's clear, and if you've been around for
four and a half minutes, you know that's exactly what's happening.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Sheriff Luna has his own electorate to face every four years,
in addition to a board of supervisors that have a
little bit of, let's just say the least a little
bit of influence over his political positions.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Now you asked, can you hold on for another segment?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Do I have to only because you've got the pig
had on?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
No, you don't have to, No I will, No, No,
this has been we don't want you.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Okay, I'm sorry made it awkward. I'm going to go
I'm kidding.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
You mentioned that when we're talking about what do we.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Know about it?

Speaker 2 (06:55):
What we know about these people?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
You know you mentioned their anti governor and they're anti capitalist.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Well, I know a lot of twenty somethings and they
are both.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
They are all anti government and anti capitalists.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
I don't want to do anything for the man.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
It's a very youthful argument or philosophy. But those people
I don't think would plan to bomb major gatherings on
New Year's Eve. I kind of want to get into
more about that, what we know about their backgrounds and
if anything, because there's a pretty big bridge there of
being anti government, anti capitalist and then wanting to blow
people up.

Speaker 7 (07:30):
Yeah, you're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from
KFI AM six forty.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Sort of a developing story is being overshadowed by a
lot of other stuff right now. But the US has
apparently offered Ukraine some security guarantees similar to what it
would get if it was in NATO in an attempt
to get closer to a peace deal. This offer, they said,
the strongest, most explicit security pledge that the Americans have

(07:58):
put forward for Ukraine, but it comes with an ultimatum,
which is you do it now or it doesn't. It
will be taken off the table if we don't do
this quickly. The proposal would be would be an Article
five like security guaranteed that if you attack Ukraine basically
you attack us. This of course is being worked on

(08:19):
Steve Whitkoff, the special envoy. You've got Dimples Kushner that's
out there as well in Berlin, trying to trying to
get some sort of a conclusion to the Russia Ukraine conflict.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Defense attorney Alan Jackson already running to the microphones outside
the courthouse. He will be defending Nick Reiner, who was
arrested for killing his parents. The news this morning that
is breaking and continues to unfold, is that he will
not appear in court today for the first time because
and here is what they're going with, he does not
have medical clearance. Now prosecutors have yet to file the

(08:52):
case against Nick Reiner, but Alan Jackson, his attorney, says
his client is not medically cleared to appear in court.
He is on suicide watch at Men's Central Jail in
la at Twin Towers, held without bail. So this is
kind of a new one. Now we do know that
Nick was reportedly acting very strange at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party,

(09:16):
not interacting with guests. He was wearing a sweatshirt, seemed
high on something at a very ritzy event, got into
a loud argument with his parents. Checked into a hotel
about four am Sunday using his credit card, never formally
checked out. Apparently, when the staff went into his room
later Sunday morning, that hotel room, they found the shower

(09:37):
full of blood and blood on the bed. As you know,
Robin Michelle found dead in their Brentwood home. Multiple stab
wounds for both of them.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Well, I there's blood in the hotel, then maybe there
was a struggle and maybe he also suffered.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
If you stab somebody multiple times, you're gonna end up
with blood on you, regardless, no struggle or struggle. You
stab somebody two people that many times, including Yeah, yeah,
all right.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Michael Monks is with us.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Good morning, Hi, we're talking about this terrorist bombing plot
with these four people arrested. Do we know anything about
their background? What got them from being anti government, anti
corporate or whatever a capitalist to wanting to kill people?

Speaker 3 (10:22):
They don't have much of an online presence. They do
have an Instagram page with only about a thousand followers. Again,
this was not some well known actionvity followers. Do you
have about that?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
So about the same as the people that want to
blow up a bunch of people?

Speaker 3 (10:35):
What do you implying? I'm just saying, I've never been
to the desert. Go on, I've never been to the desert.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yeah, why did you see it?

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Toys?

Speaker 1 (10:42):
You also had never been to Carmel, But we checked
that box, didn't we.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I was at a meeting with my accountant on Saturday
wearing my Carmel hoodie that you made fun of.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Okay, I didn't make fun of it. I just said
it was a.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Little because I bought a souvenir that said Carmel on it,
like I do at places. I buy the shirt and
the accountant talk to me for half an hour about Carmel.
And that's the point, is it. It creates an opportunity
to connect, like what can we talk about where we
vacation And it was fantastic. We talked about Monterey, we
talked about how we need to get the big sir.

(11:13):
I mean, there's all kinds of opportunities. I am sorry
that you were so. Frankly, your anti social behavior is
a little turtle islandy.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
I don't believe this story because your accountant, like my accountant,
knows how much money we make and knows we should
not be having a half an hour conversation about Monterey
or Carmel.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Some of us may be better with what we have.
Some of us may manage things.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Better, That's true, I do not manage.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Some of us may have scary complications that require a
little bit of friendly conversation before we get into the
leads of it all.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Okay, so they don't have much.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Of a online now, they don't, but their messaging isn't
too dissimilar from other leftist organizations that we run into
all the time in Los Angeles, no matter what they
call themselves Tennants Union or this or that rights group
whatever Forree Palestine type mess and that sort of thing.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
I guess if you get one of these people in
this group where you're looking for community, much like you
are in your Carmel sweatshirt, and you get one person
wanting to take it a step farther, it may attract
somebody into that way of thinking as well.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Correct, You're gonna always have people who say it's more
extremely What I've just remembered is think about those No
Kings rallies that we've had a couple here in LA.
The first one really drew a significant number of people
to downtown LA, a lot of people that you might
not typically see at protests. They probably felt a bit
liberated because they were passionate about being against the president

(12:34):
and they went out and they marched with people that
feel the same way. But there was a lot of
antagonism of not just from conservatives, from leftist leftists hate
that organization that puts together because that's not the way
you protest. Peaceful protests are boring and it will only
get a little more extreme the farther left you go.
This group on their Instagram page was promoting a group

(12:55):
an event called Give Palestine pop Up at Jackson Market.
That is the sentence, give Palestine pop Up. I don't
know what that means, but there's a lot of Palestine messages.
This was an event that they were hosting at a
place called Hot Take Jewelry, which is the active vism
page of Lesbians for Liberation. So Palestinian liberations specifically or

(13:15):
just liberation. I'm really not sure. There's a lot of
messaging against capitalism, against genocide. As they characterize it. They
call themselves Turtle Island as a reference to the United States,
being called that apparently by some Native American groups as
an indigenous reference to this place. So that's where they were.
But this was clearly a much more extreme, smaller group.

(13:38):
But how big is the broader group.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Not clear well, And this morning I was reading that
they were very detailed. I guess the main person that
they picked up this, Audrey Carrol, thirty years old, provided
a confidential human source with an FBI hand or with
the FBI a handwritten document. Operation Midnight Sun was what
they were working on, and it was very very detailed

(14:00):
in terms of who would be assigned to plant which
backpack at which building, that there would be an off
what they call off ground team member somewhere else monitoring
police scanners in the event that police got wind of
this and started, you know, tracking these people or something
like that. This wasn't just a random group of people

(14:24):
fantasizing about doing this. That they did have some specific
plans in place. These weren't just sketches. They did have
detailed plans. There was according to the federal prosecutors. Some
disagreement within this group about whether the timeline was long
enough to execute it as it's laid out in that document.
So there was some internal squabbling, like we don't have
enough time to pull this off. I mean, this apparently

(14:46):
came up late in the fall, and you know New
Year's is six weeks from that moment.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
I hate it when I get into fights with the
people I'm going to blow stuff up with. You know, well,
it's just not conducive. It's not nice, especially around the holidays.
I like it when we get along. Michael, can you
stick from their segment?

Speaker 3 (15:02):
I know you're pulling my leg is bs detecture.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Just you are in no mood today.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
I got a lot to do in his way. I mean,
you know, I don't know who Pete and your puffs,
I'm minutes away from the Port of Los Angeles monthly updates.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
They're like a puff cereal, like a puff sugar puffs.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Sugar puffs. It makes that your peace smells like it
after you eat it.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Really, I had no idea.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
What's the one with the super golden crisp and the
and the Pops not pop? I love pops. The sugar
golden cris that the one with the bear, and then
there's the one with the frogs smacks. They both are
kind of similar.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
In texture and take pea smell.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
I'm telling you, and I know that there are gentlemen
who are hearing this who will agree.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
I used to get into some smacks in the little boxes.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Did your yourine smell like smell?

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Never smelled it. I never went down there to get
a smell.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
I don't think you have to. I'm saying it walked,
it does.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
You can't get enough of that super golden crisp.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
About honeycomb too?

Speaker 3 (15:54):
What about not honeycomb? It's a different genre, Captain Crunch.
I love, it's a different cereal. I'm talking specifically about
this super golden crisp and smacks are very similar in
texture and taste. You're just naming cereals.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I'm sorry, it's good, Oh my.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
God, thank you, Elmer. Some adults in the room.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
But if you had to pick between Captain Crunch and
Captain Crunch with crunch berries, which would you go with
the original or with the berries?

Speaker 3 (16:17):
I'd stick with the originals, so would I. But it's
it just destroys the roof of your mouth. It's not
worth it. It's not worth it. Honeycomb that you just
reference has always been underrated though. It's a great cereal.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
It's so light, light, not too heavy at all.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Not not a lot of sugar on.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
The amount of sweetness.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Beautiful. It's a beautiful cereal. Okay, we've done some good
work here today. We have indeed, thank you, Michael. Sorry
five seconds or so. I got to get to that.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Lesbians for Liberation meetings.

Speaker 7 (16:47):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
New York Post is reporting that Nick Reiner stormed off
at that Conan O'Brien Christmas party the night before or
he murdered his parents, that he stormed off after he
got into a tiff with Bill Hayter, the comedian.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Odd, he kind of looked the same. It is interesting.
I wonder if he thought he was looking into a mirror.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
Yeah, yeah, there's still whatever the weird details are of
Nick Reiners not His attorney Alan Jackson said he's not
been medically cleared for transport, which would go from twin
Towers to the courthouse.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
As I understand it, they transport defendants in the morning
to the courthouse for whatever sort of proceedings they're scheduled
to have that day. If he did not get on
that bus to the courthouse, then he is not there
for an arraignment this afternoon. But in this case, who

(17:56):
knows if there are special circumstances.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Well, you mentioned him, he's in administrative segregation, which usually
means that he's on suicide watch or protection. So we
know that he's been on suicide watch. If that has
anything to do with it, we'll find out. Nathan Hafkman,
we understand, is expected to hold a news conference later
this afternoon. I think one o'clock is when it's scheduled.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
They have not filed officially charges against him, but the
expectation is that will happen probably around the Timehawkman will
be speaking. Obviously, it's murder and what else sprinkled on
top of that, we don't know. As detectives tie a
bow on this thing as they hand it off to
prosecutors from whatever investigation they've been able to do.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Up until this point, we've been taken talkbacks from people
and there are just an absolute metric ton buttload of stories.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
That people have that are similar to this, not that
they end in murder, but.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Obviously the addiction issues that families, that individuals and families
have to deal with. So we wanted to play some
of those for you guys.

Speaker 8 (19:07):
Hey, guys, I loved cocaine and meth from when I
was eighteen years old to thirty years old. The thought
of how cocaine you can fill your heart, pounty in
your chest, and you know.

Speaker 9 (19:19):
You can drop dead.

Speaker 10 (19:20):
But that wasn't enough.

Speaker 8 (19:21):
Death wasn't enough to make you want to quit.

Speaker 7 (19:23):
You have to want to quit.

Speaker 8 (19:24):
The reason my wife and I quit is because we
got pregnant and we decided this is gonna make us quit.

Speaker 10 (19:30):
Yeah, our son is.

Speaker 8 (19:31):
Going to be thirty two next week and we've been
cleaned since.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
We have to want it or forget it, you do.
And I think that that brings up a good point.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
A lot of people do have issues with whatever drugs, alcohol,
what have you in their twenties and they're like, you
know what, we are aging out of this.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
We're gonna have a family, can't be doing this, we
can't have a baby have meth around the house.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
That is great.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
That is that is a good life decision to make.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Not a lot of people, or there are people who
cannot make that decision. They don't have we they can't
get a thing. Is it is not a strength thing.
It's a disease thing. Is what the addiction specialists will
tell you. That there's just no way out of deciding
to stop something if it has a grip on you
like it does grip some people.

Speaker 11 (20:15):
Hey, Gary and Channon, this is Mark. I was an
addict for the better part of about ten years. And
it's not that we think we need something. It is
more of the feeling of if we do not get this,
we will not survive. And when you are in that
survival mode, you will lie to you'll steed, Rob, you
will take anything from anyone because it is a life

(20:36):
or death feeling. That is why addiction is so powerful
and why it is so hard to overcome it.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
And that's what we do recover, and.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
That is thank you for that. Why it's I mean,
I get it, but.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
I don't get it when you think about what Rob
Reiner and Michelle Reiner were openly saying to people in
terms of the experts, we're telling us our son was
lying to us and manipulating us. And you know, we
listen to them, and we shouldn't we know our son essentially,
was the takeaway from the conversations that they had had
with people that are being reported on today. That's very

(21:16):
hard because one of the things that you just know
about addicts is they will lie and they will manipulate you.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
It doesn't mean they're bad people. That's just part of
the addiction.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
But they weren't there at at least they weren't there
when they were putting out this movie nine years ago
as a family, this movie about addiction.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
They were still.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
In the thought process of, oh, my son's not lying,
he's not manipulating.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Well, and that's not who he is. I think a
lot of us have.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Situations where we can judge or come to conclusions about
a situation like this that may be difficult. You look
at from the outside, you're like, that family's going through
it right now, that's probably pretty difficult.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
My family would never be like that.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
And then you find yourself in that situation and you
you do that same thing where you're like, well, yeah,
I mean, we might be going through it right now,
but we're different, or it's different for us, or it's not.
You know, our our kid is different, our you know,
our our dad is different. Whatever it is, the it
sounds like, the being in the midst of it can

(22:19):
be just as disorienting even if you have all the experience.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
You know.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Doctor Wendy alluded to this yesterday when she was talking
about having to deal with this herself, whatever whatever it
meant for her that even as an addiction expert, even
as a you.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Know no control, you care for someone else's addiction, right.

Speaker 12 (22:41):
Even if you know all the things to say, or
you know all the patterns that show what you know
what someone's going through, you don't. That expertise does not
give you a hand up at all, a leg up
in any situation like that.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Yeah, and it's got to be hard to know that
as a parent, you can't keep that person safe. You
can bubble wrap, you can put them in your home,
you can do all the things that hopefully that they
were trying to do. Rob Bryner saying in those interviews,
we kept him safe. That's got to be your number
one driver in life as a parent is to keep

(23:13):
your kids safe. You want them to be happy, but
safety first, right, And they thought that they were doing that,
you know, But and I just it's awful.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
More of these when we come back.

Speaker 7 (23:26):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Okay, well, we have our elves. Our elves have hidden.
We need to find our elves. Their names are Fonsie
and Sprinkles, and my goodness, do these two get up
to no good?

Speaker 13 (23:45):
Gary and Shannon. This is John and beautiful Joshua Tree, California.
Regarding the el yes, I suspect it has something to
do with Neil's symbol playing clapping spanking monkey on a shelf?

Speaker 1 (24:04):
What Neil has a clapping spanking monkey on his show?

Speaker 9 (24:11):
I'm on symbol playing clapping spanking monkey on a shelf.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
I'm unfamiliar with this. I wouldn't know where to look
for that.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
We're going to need more clues.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
We're going to need more clues. You find them, Gary
and Shannon on Instagram. Check out our stories. The elves
will be there. We don't know where they are. We
need a hint on where to look.

Speaker 9 (24:34):
Neil's symbol playing clapping spanking monkey on a show?

Speaker 1 (24:40):
Is that like some sort of utility closet that if
he had a monkey, kind of like our lama where
I don't even know where that lama is. I wonder
if it's in some sort of closet.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Where does Neil sit?

Speaker 1 (24:51):
I don't know. I think he does it from home.
Do we have to go to Neil's house for these
elves to thinks? Our elves names are Phonsie and Sprinkles. Obviously,
don't need to explain that.

Speaker 9 (25:03):
Duh.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Are you watching the bowl game today?

Speaker 4 (25:07):
Oh, there's a bowl game Salute to Veterans Bowl between
Troy Michigan. No, the Troy University. What's their mascot? The
Troy UH Titans, Trojans.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
I'll give you that one.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Are they from Troy, Michigan?

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Is it Michigan? I didn't think it. And then the
Jacksonville State.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
Jaguars game Cocks games the Crampton Bowl, and there's no.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
Cox and Jacksonville are there?

Speaker 1 (25:37):
I've never seen a game Cock. There are a lot
of Jacksonville. Three times, I've never seen it.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Maybe next time you go back there you can find him.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
We're talking about what's going on with Troy University?

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Is in Alabama? Is there a Troy Michigan? Am I
making that up? Sorry?

Speaker 1 (25:56):
I can have my dementia off the air. Go on, No,
there is try Michigan.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Okay, winner, that's what you are.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
We've been talking about this ongoing case. Rob and Michelle
Rein are, of course killed by their son Nick. It
appears brutally murdered on Sunday at some point. And the
larger issue of addiction within families.

Speaker 10 (26:21):
Drug addicts alcoholics are masters of deception because they've learned
and they've mastered the ways in which they can deceive
those people around them so that they continue in their
ways to get what it is that they want.

Speaker 14 (26:37):
Gary and Shannon, when our daughter was sixteen, we had
to put her into a teen rehab sent her. She
was there for seventy days impatient and then a year
out patient after that. The takeaways that I have from
this are one, You're always a recovering addict. You're never
beating your addiction. A number two, addiction is a family problem.

(27:00):
Family was required to participate in parent training, alan and
other things.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Yeah, that is part of the recovery.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
If you are in a close knit family like that,
they've got to be on that boat with you.

Speaker 15 (27:13):
Hey, good morning, Garia, Shan and fine fish out here
at the airport.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Fish.

Speaker 15 (27:17):
You know, I dealt with a nasty, nasty addiction. And
I come from a middle class family growing up in
Balwyn Hills, and addiction is something that the attic has
to want to change. If you don't want to change,
no matter what the mental health and everything, you're not
going to and you leave the door open for reservations.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
AA baby na.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Thank you all right, so we will stay on top
of that. Thank you for all your messages. Alan Jackson
has found a microphone outside of the courthouse. Spoke to
KTLA earlier this morning, so we were thinking there would
be an arraignment this afternoon, but the latest is that
he has not been medically cleared to leave twin towers.

(28:03):
That's the first I've heard of that. It's an email.
I think it was an email.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Yeah, it's not loading.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Oh, it's not loading.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
But anyway, the charges will be filed this afternoon, Nathan Hawkman,
the DA will have a press conference in conjunction with
that filing. We're hearing that's going to happen at about
one o'clock in the one o'clock hour at some point,
so we'll stay on top of that.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
In the meantime, you can leave us your messages more
about this when it comes to personal stories that you've
had dealing with addiction or family members with addiction. When
you're listening on the iHeart app, there's a little microphone,
a little red microphone, sorry, red button with a white
microphone on it, and you hit that little button and
you leave us about a thirty second message orself.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
We will get into swamp watch, the need to know
kinds of things. Stay on top of this Reiner double
murdered tragedy, and we're also going to have fun in
the next hour when mom takes over, who were your
dating profile?

Speaker 2 (29:02):
What could possibly go wrong or right?

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Gary and Shannon will continue right after this. You've been
listening to the Gary and Shannon Show. You can always
hear us live on KFI AM six forty nine am
to one pm every Monday through Friday, and anytime on
demand on the iHeartRadio app.
