Shannon kicks off Gary’s birthday with a seamoss shot and a reminder that aging is undefeated, even if injury prevention is the only goal at the batting cages for Gary's birthday celebration.
The laughs give way to major international news as Gary and Shannon break down the dramatic developments in Venezuela, including the capture of Nicolás Maduro and what it signals about U.S. power abroad. NewsNation’s Lt. Gen. Richard Newton joins to explain how the operation came together, and the hosts later weigh in on why Marco Rubio’s performance as Secretary of State is standing out in Trump’s Cabinet.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to kf
I A M six forty, the Gary and Shannon Show
on demand on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
What is this?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
This is an immunity shot?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Shake it up? Sea moss?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Yeah, what are you trying to do to me? Shake
it up?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
And you see what old people do? Now, what the
old people do is we take health shots instead of
shot shots.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
I felt like I was coming down with something. So
if I'm coming down with something, you're coming down with something.
You got to bring that trophy home next week. M
that'll put hair on your chest.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Lemon ginger water, lemon ginger water, sea moss, turmeric, caienne
and salt. Good lord. Wait wait, so you took that
down easily, but you can't drink macha.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
No, hold one, you gotta shoot it. He took a
sip and then get a mistake. Come on, just down
the hatch.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Oh man, he just took that like it was fireball. Yes,
it's right, it's birthday energy.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
That doesn't it give you a little a buzz like
a little bit yet?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Hey, welcome to twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yes, do you any special birthday plans?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I'm going to the batting cage today.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
That's cool. I love a battage and it's in Burbank.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
It is.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I didn't know they had batting cages.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
There's a couple of them, and this is the first one.
I don't I've searched for them before, like trying to
find a good one that's not a pitch and putt
kind of place. Yeah, and I got a review, so
I'm gonna go check this one out. It supposed to
be really nice. They have speeds, yeah, multiple different cages
and different kinds. I mean they do like softball, like

(01:43):
I guess slow pitch softball, they do fast pitch softball,
and then five or six different speeds for baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
So you've been training for fantasy camp, which starts next
week for how long?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Oh, I don't know, a few months, Yeah, probably October.
And not like I'm not trying to get in. No
one's gonna draft me. I'm not gonna I'm not getting
a contract. My job is to not get hurt. And
that's what it is. It's it's injury prevention. I'm just
in terms, just in terms of that's what I'm thinking.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I mean, give out awards at Fantasy camp and one
of those awards.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
What they give out, like what.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
They give out a Cy Young Award. They give out.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
You know, everybody's friend geniality. Do they miss congeniality?

Speaker 2 (02:32):
They give a sportsmanship award. But that's fine, that's everybody
likes you. That's what that is. That's what that is, Okay.
And then Cy Young is the best pitcher, best picture,
and the best hitter, best hitter. They give out all
and an m VP Gold Glove, Gold Gloves Defense, and
then an MVP MVP.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I would accept gold. It's not gonna be Cy Young, right,
You're not going to be pitching.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
I'll be pitching, but not but not I'm not killing
anybody Silver Sluggers, I agree. You know what, the more
I drill down on this, the more that's like the heart.
If you can field some great balls and put your
body on the line.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
See sports broadcasting just never doesn't sound dirty if you
can field some balls and put your body on the line.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
But it's true. Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Elmer just came back from the dr so he's like,
I mean, everything is aligned right now for you to
win one of these awards. Yes, we'll accept Silver Slugger
or MVP. You come back here with that Sportsman award,
and you don't even bother walking in the door. If
you're just friends with everybody, don't even bother coming into work.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
PS.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
If you ever wanted appointment radio, and if you ever
wanted to hear a live mental breakdown, tune in Monday
morning because the Chargers play the Patriots in New England
eight pm Eastern time. I will get in probably about

(04:08):
six am on Monday morning.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
You won't be here.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
The forty nine Ers and the Chargers both play on Sunday,
back to back.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Forty nine are that middle game?

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Yeah right, so I will potentially be completely heartbroken and
have zero sleep walking into the show without you. Now,
to me, that sounds I picked up my phone as
soon as the schedule came out started crafting a text
message to Michelle cube Kelly.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
I never forget that she is married. Never remember that
she is married.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Michelle cube Kelly and I started saying like, hey, I
know Gary's out next Monday, but I don't know. And
then I was like, no, this could be great, Like
I root for chaos all the time, no sleep. Both
the Chargers and the forty nine Ers with potential for
moving on or losing.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Like I'm going to be a disaster area like this
is great.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
There's the four different options of what could happen where
both lose, or both win, or the other two which
is a combination of one wins and one loses.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
It's all.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
It's all just I love all of those scenario all a.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Disaster in my head and on no sleep and then
doing the show without you. I mean, it's gonna be.
It's gonna be something, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
The World Baseball Classic is also around the corner, which
takes on a whole new texture because Venezuela has always
had a good World Baseball Classic.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
It's true. And how's that gonna work out?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
They're still gonna I mean there's still non play.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I mean interrupting all.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Are they going to be dressed in red, white and blue?
Are we going to take over the baseball team as well?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Marco Rubio is going to manage the team?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Dude, Hell, hath no fury like a man who's avenging
his parents.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Oh horror, Marco Rubio. I mean we talked about it
many many years ago. Marco Rubio was the subject of
a hit. They put out a hit on Marco Rubio
when he was a senator. Yeah, after he had run
for president. For a minute.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
This is like George Wu's Dad's war come home to roost.
I mean, this is what Marco Rubio is. And good
for Marco Rubio. Like from what I was reading, the
limited things I was reading last night was just that
Trump wasn't even gung ho for this.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, that there was some reticence on the President's part
about whether or not to do this, and Marco Ruby
is like oil, you like oil the big thing. Of course,
the United States went in. They described it more of
as more of an extradition than any sort of military action,
although obviously the military was involved at the behest of

(06:48):
the Department of Justice to go get this guy because
the arrest warrant its out. Nicholas Maduro and his wife
are currently in federal court in New York. They're doing
thing right now where they're just doing the basics. The
judge had been asking, you know, to Maduro to confirm

(07:09):
his own identity, et cetera. He's speaking in Spanish, So
we know that that is going on right now in
New York at that federal court. But there's just so
much that went into this crazy.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
I mean he was taken to the place where Gallaine
Maxwell was and where Diddy is spending time, and you know,
and all the things. You know, you start you start
reliving all the things, at least for me from my childhood,
hearing about Noriega and what that meant, and you know,
essentially kidnapping another world leader bringing them here on charges.
Ps about those charges. Narco terrorism is a made up word.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
It's not real. I love it.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I love I love branding many things terrorism because I
think there's a lot of things that have terroristic tendencies,
like Sabrina Carpenter like personality traits in albums. Hey listen
Sabrina Carpenter's Great.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
I tried to listen to that album. Why could you?

Speaker 1 (08:01):
It's not for you, I know, but it's like if
I sat down and watched Mission Impossible.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
You gots.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
I tried to drink Macha. It's the same thing, and
I gave it a shot. You know what I do
like that You're open in this age? How old are you?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Fifty two? We're not doing are not doing ages on
the race?

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Girl?

Speaker 2 (08:18):
I'll bring it. I got no no, I've held off
all of twenty twenty five. I didn't say one disparaging thing.
I'm still thirty seven and I love that. Stop laughing omer.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
That was not for you to laugh at.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Old people get to laugh at that. A lot of
this on going courd hearing with Nicholas Maudurero. What went
into it. We'll talk about whether or not Congress should
have had a say in all of this, and what
the president's response to all of this was. Also holy water?

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Am I right?

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Holy water?

Speaker 1 (08:47):
The priest that sprinkled the holy water in Pittsburgh on
the very end zone that the Bravens kicker flubbed that
kick amazing? Where can I get my hands on holy water?
If you have access to holy water, please send me
some Before I leave for New England on Friday. I
am bringing holy water with me Heller high Water. I
don't know how I'm gonna get it, but I need

(09:08):
some holy water.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Venezuela's Nicholas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores are in
court right now in New York City inside the Federal Court.
Both of them had proclaimed in Spanish that they are innocent,
not guilty to all charges. The judge in this case,
Alvin Hellerstein, is the one who is informing them and

(09:37):
running the show there in that federal courthouse. There are
a lot of questions, not just about the operation itself
to get Maduro, but what happens next And joining us
to talk more about these next steps is a military analyst,
senior national security contributor, Lieutenant General Richard Newton, works for
a news Nation, spent thirty plus years in the USA military,

(10:01):
ending as a US Air Force Assistant Vice chief of Staff,
and Lieutenant General Newton, this operation that we were informed
about Saturday morning was an amazing testament to the ability
of all of the branches of the American military. Was
it not well, good.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Morning, very good to be with you, and happy Monday
morning to everyone. It was a stunning, daring, bold joint
operations certainly by our US military, but also by our
intelligence community, specifically with the Central Intelligence Agency with their
booths on the ground, the National Security Agency, in the
National Geospacial Intelligence Agency. I've worked with all those organizations

(10:46):
in my prior life, as well as the Department of Justice.
They were actually the ones that may be technically made
the arrest of President Maduro, then President Madurell and his
wives and so yes, quite a stunning operation, but also
took months of you know, very intricate planning as well

(11:06):
as exercise in training and preparation down to the very
moment if you can imagine what Chairman of Joint Chiefs
Socidey dan Kine said, were triggers that led up to
the moment that you know, we were able to go
in and do you want to call a snatch and
grab operation to including whether moonlit aspects of this guy

(11:28):
or not, exact pinpoint where the location of Madu and
his wife were at that very moment, and so forth,
and then just a matter of minutes the whole operation
to just a couple of hours. It's just a matter
of minutes later they were placed back on the Yu
Regima and now in Federle Court, New York City.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
So much to the chagrin of the opposition there. But
is it a surprise to the opposition that we are
not aligning with them, Essentially Trump saying it would be
very tough for the opposition leader there, Maria Karina Shadow,
to take over because she doesn't have the support or
the respect within the country, and that it seems that
Mark Rubio and the president of kind of back to

(12:08):
the Venezuelan vice president they're Delsey Rodriguez.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
San.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
And now the hard work again you just underscored a
major challenge is you know how to then engage with
either the current regime, which I would call and what
will Street Journal said this this morning, you know, the
Maduro two dot o, or how do you now engage
with the opposition to set up a transition government of

(12:37):
some kind in place. You're gonna have to transition from, uh,
you know, the brutal regime of Madaro for the last
several years and before him, Chavez and so forth. But
how you go about doing that and then the whole
idea of of who we work with specifically do you
work with the regime allens that remain, by the way,
they're the ones that still hold the power not only

(12:59):
in the street but throughout the country. They're specifically Vice
president Elsea Rodriguez is now technically the president. He's got
the Minister of Defense and the Interior Minister are very
strong henchmen still of Madaro. They actually also essentially run
the country and it's the forces in place right now,

(13:21):
who have all the arms the opposition concerning for instance,
opposition leader Maria Machado and so forth, really are aren't
effect of the arms. So it's a very difficult, still
a dicey situation, argue.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Both the Secretary of State and the President had said
that this was not an invasion, that this was a
law enforcement action that the military helped with. But is
there room for American troops to be on the ground
in Venezuela. Is there a possibility of that and what's

(13:58):
your prediction for that in the coming weeks in month.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
That's a great question. Gary. First off, it was I believe,
obviously a precision We had one hundred and fifty aircraft
by the way, from B one bombers to have thirty
five stealth fighters to Austry helicopters or aircraft and so forth,
as well as what was led by the Delta Special
Operations Forces to actually do the grab, along with I'm

(14:24):
sure some CIA forces there as well. That's one thing.
But the whole aspect of this with regard to what
underscored and the overview of this was that, as you said,
it was a law enforcement action, one that was a
result of Madaro being indicted in twenty twenty against a
variety of drug trafficking charges and so forth. Okay, that

(14:46):
point is established. Now, what is the role of the
US military inventor from this point forward? I would not
advocate for, nor do I really anticipate a large number
of US pute boots on the ground, in other words,
putting a large size the United States military such as
marines or soldiers, other than to protect American citizens, say

(15:10):
at the embassy or American citizens throughout Venzuela. Should that arise,
I think what you're going to see is a strong
show of US military force offshore, such as the USS
Old Forts Cherry Strike Group staying in the region. We
probably will not redeploy our F thirty five STELF fighters
out of Puerto Rico. There will still be significant special

(15:31):
operations forces ready to go in, you know, from a
pinpoint operation if need be. However, a long term aspect
of this, if the military is called upon to to
continue to support US, you know, our efforts there in
Venzuela would probably be along providing security of critical infrastructure
that can include some of the UH the oil structures there,

(15:57):
as well as to continue to enforce the oil quarantine
or the blockade of Venezuela gets those sanctioned oil tankers
going in and out of ports. We could underscore perhaps
if you ask, what would be a role for the
military counter drug operations. There's still an influx of gorillas

(16:18):
from Colombia that are trying to establish a counter gorilla
or we would need to perhaps go with the counter
gorilla force in there to stem that influence and operations
by those Colombian gorillas. But I again my point is
I would advise a president to go very slow and

(16:39):
really advise not to have significant boots on the ground
unless absolutely necessarily called for.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Right Lieutenant General Richard Newton, thank you so much for
your time this morning.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
We know you're a busy guy. We really appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Jan great to be with you. Best of both of you.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Thanks you're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
We got this email from the boss says we're having
an all staff meeting on Friday, and we thought that
maybe can we have some death music?

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Give me the thing, where's our funeral music? And we
thought maybe this is it.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
This could be it, but it's an all stat It wouldn't.
But it wouldn't bring us there just to make it.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Well, I don't think we would be We're not important
enough to be called to a meeting to be fired.
Like if you think we're going to get that kind
of kindness or attention, you're insane.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
No.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
But like if this, if they were going to change
the whole station to like you alreadio espanol see see,
this would be how we do it.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
The whole stat we all gather.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
They're like holah, like this, no Spanish stand on this
side of the room, like see come on out, yeah
and then yeah, boy that.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
And improve it.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
But but we pulled the plug on the on the
funeral music because it says lunch will be provided, Like
they don't. They don't summon you to a meeting to
fire you and then feed you, right, Like that's not
a thing that would be.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
You know, oh, here's a sandwich box like you get
it a conference zone.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
We actually had that happen one time here. Do you
remember this story? I will not name names, but a
manager who still exists here had to fire somebody and
that person had just gone to some sort of gathering
we had had here and had like Taqit like a
plate of taketos and they had just come out of

(18:42):
the oven. And our manager was like, hey, we need
to have a talk. And the person was like, can
I bring the taketos? And the manner's like, sure, this
is awful. I shouldn't be laughing. But the person who
landed on their feet, they're doing fine, everything's fine. But
brought it to ketos to the meeting where that person

(19:02):
was then fired, and then left the building with the taketos.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
You know, sometimes people eat or drink things to prevent
themselves from crime.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
I also think it really speaks to the power of
a taketo when it's done correctly.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Oh yeah, that's I used to be addicted to those.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
I think it was like Delimex chicken taketos from like
you know, Ralphs or whatever, the frozen ones. I lived
on those for like a solid six or eight months.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Worries me that you remember the exact name of them.
I don't think I have a food that.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
Oh they were cheap and easy, Gary. I think we
can all agree that that is a beautiful combination.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
It's not it's not officially a birthday until it's an
MF and bird.

Speaker 7 (19:39):
Oh Gary Superbirthday.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Have a happy mother Gary Superberthday.

Speaker 7 (19:47):
Have a very happy mother birthy. The I'm Gary, oh no,
and it's my mother birthy. Happy birthday Gary from herma
from Kettle.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Have a good day, thanks brother. That's great. So we
do have the.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Venezuelan leader, Nicholas Maduro there in court in New York,
and he has told the judge I am still president
of my country.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
I am an innocent man.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
He and his wife led into court just about forty
five minutes ago, very well relatively brief court appearance. His
lawyers have said that the arrest was illegal. They said
he's immune from prosecution because he's the sovereign head of
a foreign state, although we the United States government doesn't
technically recognize him as the legitimate leader there. So he

(20:44):
his wife, a son, I guess, and three others. They're
all accused of working with the drug cartels to ship
tons of cocaine into the United States. She also said
that she confirmed her name Celia Flores, and through an interpreter,
said I am the first Lady of the Republic of Venezuela.
When asked to enter a pleae, she said not guilty,

(21:05):
completely innocent. A couple things here. The way we do
things in this country very different from the way they
do things in Venezuela. In a number of arenas, a
court of law is one of them. The judge in
this case, in this hearing, i should say, is ninety
two years old. This is a bye the book guy.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
These are initial hearings that are brief, perfunctory, and the
judge said right away out the gate, it's my job
to ensure a fair at preceding a fair trial that
comes to that. That is my intent. The judge asked
Maduro to identify himself. He does so in Spanish. He
says he's a president of the Republic of Venezuela. He
says he is here, he is kidnapped, he's standing, he's

(21:44):
speaking in Spanish. She talks about how he's kidnapped and
captured in his home in Caracas. He's speaking very quickly,
and the ninety two year old judge, Hellerstein interrupts him, saying,
there's going to be a time and place to get
to all of that. We just need to know that
your identity is Nicholas Madua. This is not This is
an American court of law speak when spoken to.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
There were some reference to injuries that Celia Flores may
have sustained during the operation to get her, which include
either some bruised or broken ribs, something like that, I
saw her getting out of the helicopter. She would not
have been able to do that if her ribs were broken,
not that way. But that's not to say she's not hurt.
But the judge did say, will take care of that,

(22:27):
will make sure that you have access to medical care,
all that sort of thing.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
His attorney, Barry Pollack, has filed motions or that he
has made a mention that he will file motions concerning
his role. Maduro's role is the head of a sovereign state.
Has added that there are questions about the legality of
this military abduction. By the way international law. If it's
a violation of that, there's no enforcement of that. It's

(22:53):
a very wink wink no, no international law situation. But
his attorney has that Maduro has health problems that will
require significant attention.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Modurero is probably like, what, I don't have health problems.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Lawyers like, yeah, we just say all defendants have health problems.
Trust trust me, trust me on this one. So the
arrangment has you do. The arrangement has concluded. It was
a routine legal proceeding, and it's a stark new reality
for Maduro. As a New York Times wrote it, if

(23:28):
not for anything else, the introduction to how we.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Do things in an American court room.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
Uh, and it is.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
I mean, your point that it's not the way they've
done things in Venezuela is pretty true. I mean, this
guy is afforded. The government is picking up the tab
for his defense attorney. I mean it's a court appointed
a defense attorney, and there are not a lot of
places that would do that that would get a guy

(23:55):
bring him.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Here, charge it with nice, kidnap you in a foreign
country and then we give you an attorneys.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Are wouldn't you killed to ride in apache helicopter out
toss ewo Jima and then go to the You go
to Guantanamo Bay and you get a nice.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Cush This guy is no boy scout, but we kidnapped
him in the dead of night, violating international law.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
I mean, there can be a case for it, just
like there.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Was a case for Noriega.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Everyone will be back in court March seventeenth for the
next hearing. The judge has said, so we'll see what
happens there. Who is this attorney that has been appointed appointed?
I don't know take into that as well.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
We will.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
This is one of those stories that I mean, it
is a It was a massive story on Saturday, it
was a massive story yesterday. Today's court appearance is a massive,
massive deal, and there are plenty of questions that do
surround it. Whether it is violation of international law. Did
the President violate the War Powers Act by using the
military to do this, What's going to happen with the

(24:57):
Venezuelan oil? Is there millions of dollar billions of dollars
just waiting to be, you know, flushed into the international
oil mark. All of those questions surround what it is
that went down.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
I'm just interested in.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
The idea that we're going to run the country of Venezuela,
Like just that nice, vague message from the President of
the United States, we are going to run the country.
What does that look like? What does he mean when
he says that, are we going to go in and
grab the oil and the whole We're going to go
get the oil? Are stolen oil? A little very brief

(25:34):
history in the nineteen seventies, Venezuela basically nationalized all of
its oil, so they bought out all the American companies
drilling for oil or getting the oil for us. They
just bought him out. They were compensated very well. But
that's why Venezuela has all their oil nationalized. It wasn't
really stolen. They paid us for it.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Well, the whole question about we should do the Marco
Rubio aspect when we get back. Now, this is a guy,
listen twenty four hours a guy. Here's a guy completely
overshadowed the vice president.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Yes, you're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from
KFI Am six forty.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
We're talking about the you know, the fallout from what
is the Nicholas Maduro arrest, capture in whatever you want
to call it, from this weekend. The Venezuelan leader ex
leader now was just in court. He's now being transferred
back to back to the prison, back to the jail
after this morning. And again this was just a procedural hearing.

(26:38):
This was basically to set everything up allow he and
his wife to enter. Please, both of them said they're
not guilty. They'll be back. I think we said March
was the next quarter.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Our seventeen is that St. Patrick's Day.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
He'll learn about Saint Patrick's Day as well. How fun,
how fun for him. But here's the thing we made
mention of it Mark Rubio, and it's worth kind of
maybe a deep dive at eleven when we do swamp
much of his family's history with Cuba. Why this is
his piccadillo, Why this is his thing that he is
so obsessed with, And it's all about personal history with

(27:11):
Mark Rubio and the power that Marco Rubio showed. I mean,
the way the optics have been playing in Washington is
that Trump is holding this like mini Apprentice with JD.
Vance and Marco Rubio and maybe Donald Trump Junior in
terms of who will be the next who will be
the heir to the throne? And Mark Rubio has been
kind of quiet, it seems, at least the optics have been,

(27:34):
and then all of a sudden for his pet project,
the thing he truly cares about.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
There it is on the table. Get this done.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
He's been described by a lot of people in the
last forty eight hours as the smartest cabinet pick that
President Trump has ever made, in both terms that he
specifically fits this role as Secretary of State, but he
don't forget he's also the National Security Advisor and any

(28:02):
number of other jobs that are listed on his business
card now, including the de facto leader of Venezuela. I mean,
it's not true, but that's kind of the feeling, and
it's because he has his family roots in Latin America
and he is what they've referred to, I think as
the Latin America whisperer when it comes to all of

(28:23):
these different policies, all of these different countries, all of
the machinations that exist in the Western Hemisphere, and our
relationship with those countries. He did say yesterday, this is
again Marco Rubio. He said the United States is not
going to take a day to day role in governing Venezuela,

(28:45):
which kind of contradicts what the President had said on Saturday.
Other than enforcing the oil quarantine on the country, it's
already existing and we're just going to continue that. The
idea that we it's not regime change, not yet. It
could eventually become that. But I mean, the woman who

(29:07):
is now considered the president of Venezuela was handpicked by
Nicholas Maduro del Rodriguez and she's just she just took
the oath of office and obviously she's upset. Although she's
been kissing up to Marco Rubio. This isn't regime changed yet,
could be in the future. Marco Rubio's family came from

(29:28):
Cuba and his connections, his concern about Latin America and
Latin American dictators is rooted in his family's history.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Yeah, there's definitely concern for who's benefiting from the oil industry,
and it's just the fat cats and the regime getting
fatter and richer and rolling around in the money and
also not doing anything about the gang, the gang problems
and the drug trafficking. And his other issue is the
fact that they cozy up with Hesball in Iran and,

(30:01):
as he puts it, our own hemisphere. Rubio said, people
have an obsession over whether US will occupy Venezuela with
boots on the ground or this or that. Trump hasn't
ruled that out. But Marco Rubio says, no, no, no,
that's not what you're seeing right now. What you're seeing
right now is an oil quarantine that allows us to

(30:21):
exert tremendous leverage over what happens next, And that is
really what we're looking at the days and the weeks
and the short months even ahead of us, of how
much power the US can insert assert over Venezuela. How
strong does that regime? How strong is that regime without Maduro?
Is it just you're taking the head off, but the

(30:44):
body still exists and it is as powerful. Like we're
talking with with Richard Newton, Lieutenant General Richard Newton from
News Nation earlier, the regime still has all the arms,
has all the power in that regard. And now that
the opposition also has kind of gotten slap in the
face from the United States, what does that mean too,
Because we're like, eh, yeah, we don't like this guy,

(31:04):
but we also don't like you either.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
We're going to do our own.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
The President was very clear, or it wasn't. He was
very clear that he's not going to throw his support
behind the opposition, at least not yet, saying that this
Nobel Prize winner whose leads the opposition of Venezuela, she
probably doesn't have the support that would be needed to
take over the country. Yeah, yeah, that's pretty clear that
he's not going to be throwing his weight behind her.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Shown them have the money and showing them the arms,
the arms.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
All right.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Coming up next, we will get into the forecast. I
had to go to Denver to get away from the storm.
It's going to sunny in sixty five.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
For five days, it was just a mess.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Will it continue? Wait, we'll find out after the break.
