Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to KFI
A M six forty, the Gary and Shannon Show on
demand on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's start with this just a very quick oh my
goodness with a drum roll. Thursday, we are doing our
next news and bruise coming up, like three or four
days news and bruises at BJ's restaurant at Bruehouse in
Huntington Beach, the one on Beach Boulevard.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
We absolutely packed.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
That place last time, and we'll pack it again this Thursday,
won't we.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Oh it's gonna be so much fun. It's kind of
like our home away from home. They took the mural
off though, at this bjays, so you no longer see
the man who's half naked with the scythe in the field.
So I invite everyone to dress like him. Everyone, take
off your shirts, bring your scythes, no, bring clothes, and

(00:52):
come come out to BJ's.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Security won't allow sides.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
Oh okay, well maybe you carry the scythe in your heart.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
That's a better idea.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, Well, hopefully the Dodgers have their sides with them.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
It is game one of the NLCS.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Tim Kates, the voice of your Los Angeles Dodgers, host
of Kate's.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
And sax Saxony King, Oh, over changing, I'm changing Kates
and saxon the A.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Thanks, Shannon, You're welcome. Appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Does Steve Sacks know about your batting average and know
about your CIF champion status?

Speaker 5 (01:21):
I mean, how am I supposed to talk about that
when the guy won Rookie of the Year in the
National League and then won two World Series championships, most
notably nineteen eighty eight. I mean, how am I supposed
to say, Oh, yeah, a Saxy, I had four fifty
two my senior years.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Show him your tattoo. It's that simple.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
He's like, what's that four to fifty two funny?

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Oh? Not jas that. Let me tell you about the
spring of ninety six. I don't like talking about it.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
But Kates is like, and here's the kicker. I was
a junior.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
Yeah, I know you spent fourteen years in the big leagues,
but let me tell you about one spring in nineteen
ninety six where I hit over four fifty.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
I would totally be that guy that wanted to just tell.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Everybody that would be all the time, all right, Blake
Snell right going for the Dodgers tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Do we know who's pitching for the Brewers. Yeah, no,
they're playing a little game of cat and mouse.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
They are not releasing their roster until the very latest possible,
Bill Belichick, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Very much.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
And they got this manager, Pat Murphy, who was a
college manager, college head coach, came from Arizona State, Notre
Dame before that, and kind of just like a I
don't know he he's manages differently. And so they don't
have a lot of starting pitching. They only have two
real starters, so they're probably gonna go opener right into Priester,
who's to become their young right handed guy that they
go to here in the postseason.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
So we don't know who they're gonna throw.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
But they're like the Dodgers a year ago, didn't have
a lot of starting pitching, relying a lot on openers
and long guys out of the bullpen and just kind
of piecing it together every single game.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
When you look at the matchup here, what is your
biggest concern and what is your biggest tell?

Speaker 5 (02:52):
Yeah, we got this starting pitching. They've got more starting
pitching than the Milwaukee Brewers. They got an abundance, of
course with Blake Snell, and you're saving Otani for a
possible game for him, and that's like an embarrassment of riches.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
And you still got Tyler Glass.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Now you can throw in Game three, you got an
Immett Sheen, you got a Clayton Kershaw, you can go
to the abundance of starting pitching is huge for the Dodgers,
but they need those guys to be good. You can't
have Yama Moto go out there. Last time he was
in Milwaukee in July two thirds of an inning. Yeah,
forty on pitches and he was.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Out of the gates. That cannot happen.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Did they sweep that series?

Speaker 5 (03:25):
They swept all six games, three at in Milwaukee and
the three AT Dodgers stayed him the first three games
after the all time.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Does that play into anything in the head space, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Because it's a different team.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
Blake Snell didn't pitch against them, Yamamoto was terrible, Otani
didn't pitch against them. Max Munty was hurt, Tommy Edmond
was hurt. It's a complete for the five relievers that
the Dodgers threw against them in those games aren't even
on the postseason roster aren't even around anymore. They're like,
you know, selling insurance somewhere. So it's a different looking Dodger.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
But speaking up that bullpen, is that still you think
the weakest part right now, the weakest link for the Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Yeah, it's it's it's still an issue because if they
don't get a strong performance out of Snell or Yamamoto,
they're going to eat into that bullpen. And you're talking
about extra innings for Clayton Kershaw in October. You're talking
about image shean being used a lot here. I mean,
you're gonna get to Bessia Robleski.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
That's the sound of concern that if you're up, is okay,
but it's not somebody I'd want to go to in
a crunch situation.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Tried in the same deal, Well that the Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
Just released a roster and they're going with an extra
pitcher on this roster just to have that extra arm.
It's Ben Casparius, who wasn't on the wild card roster,
wasn't on the DS roster and quite frankly wasn't even
around in September because they sent it back to Triple
A to kind of give him some rest because they
used him an awful od during the regular season up
until September first, So Ben Casparius added to the roster

(04:49):
for an extra arm.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Here in this round. Last night's game Mariners in the
Toronto Blue Jays. Mariners won that game. They talked a
lot about Julio Rodriguez not having shown up much in
the previous two series. Shoey Otani's in that same position
where he's the guy that everybody wants to make headlines,
and he's been quiet.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
One eight average. He's got two extra base hits.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
They were two home runs in Game one against the
Reds in Game one of the wild Card round. He
has done nothing since then, and they still won the
series against the Phillies. Now that series with the Seattle Mariners,
how about last night? Why are you pitching to cal Rawley?

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Euro up won.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Nothing in the sixth inning and fifth inning, and you're
pitching to cal Raley. How about you just nibble away
on the outside part of the plate. Don't let him
hit the ball, because when he hits it, he hits
it four hundred and fifty feet. It's a tie game,
and then you lose the game.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Miami, why are you pitching to him. My wife the
game was on. I'm sitting at the dining room table
and I'm eating I'm listening to it. My wife wasn't
paying attention to it, but she was sitting in front
of the TV. The cal Raley hits a home run
and the guy calling the game goes a home run
for the Big Dumper, and she starts cracking up laughing.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
That was Joe David, by the way, on the call
that broadcast.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Right, It was Joe Davis was It was the funniest
anecdote from that game.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
It's great the Big Dumper, I mean perfect, what a
great story. I just hope that they go all the
way because it's going to be sad watching the Mariners
fans in that game that I stayed up till two
in the morning or whatever watching on was that Friday
Friday night. Oh my gosh, watching those fans in Seattle,
it looks like their whole soul is on the field,

(06:28):
and I love to see that. You know, they hadn't
won in twenty four years, since nineteen ninety nine, and
just I love that, and it gives you chills when
you get a drought like that in any major sport.
But it's gonna feel that much better when the Dodgers
crush all of those souls in the World Series, right.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I don't get it.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
I guess I can't relate to people openly crying, grown
men crying.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I came out their getting.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
To the ALCS follow comedian on Twitter who didn't want
anybody to tell them who won the game, and then
got emotional afterwards.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Because you're a Dodger fan. Dodgers are perennially in the playoffs. Like,
you don't know what it's like to go on a
nineteen year drought.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
You just don't, okay, So like if the Chargers get
to the Super Bowl, are we gonna see Charger fans
crying everywhere? Because it hasn't happened very often in their
franchise history. I'm trying to think of an l A
story that's the equivalent of people getting emotional.

Speaker 7 (07:25):
They're going to cry over going to it in ALCS
or some LA fans do not cry over that stuff.
But you got to go to the markets where there's
not as much going on. You know, in Seattle, they've
got the Seahawks, they've got the Marritors, I've seen them
cry over both teams.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
There's something happens to the Dodgers in the World Series.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Everybody's going to turn around and become a Lakers fan immediately,
right yea. Or they're going to go to the Kings.
There's something else going on all the time in Seattle.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
What are they going to do?

Speaker 4 (07:48):
Sit there in the rain and jump off bridges.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Everybody's gonna pleasant buy Sam Donald jersey or something like that.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Hey, that's a good jersey to get. He's worked out.
How about those stories, Sam Donald Baker may Field. I
love it.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
I actually want to cry so emotional.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Ye first pitch tonight for Dodgers in Milwaukee. Game one
just after five o'clock, and you'll hear it, Tim and everybody.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
Do you have Moroco Casino Dodgers on deck starts at
four o'clock.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
With the cast of care.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Did you ever call him Saxy every time?

Speaker 8 (08:21):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
To the point where my wife has told me a
little weird stop calling him Sax.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
You sound really weird.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Calling to get in there.

Speaker 8 (08:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Probably Mariners Blue Jays Game two starts just after two
o'clock today. Thanks Tim, as always, Thank you guys.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from kf
I AM six forty.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Well, that's going to be a fun time out there
on Thursday. When does the rain start? When does the
weather kick in?

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Tomorrow? Tonight? Tonight?

Speaker 4 (08:53):
President Trump was going to answer for me.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Oh, he's he's discussing what's going on in Sharmel Shake, Egypt.

Speaker 9 (08:59):
Right?

Speaker 6 (08:59):
Yes, okay, but are you actually going to do the
news and bruce?

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (09:03):
Or are you just going to tell us on Thursday
morning when everybody's there?

Speaker 9 (09:08):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Sorry, guys, we didn't get the permit we needed to
drink beer have a radio show.

Speaker 8 (09:14):
Say that.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
I know, I know, how ridiculous is that, like you
to drink beer and have a radio show.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
City of Huntington Beach is a city of freedom. We
do not need a permit to do a news and
bruce like you do in West Covina.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Join us.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
I'd like to see those two cities get get caught
in a dark alley somewhere.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Oh man, Huntington would cut. I don't know though West Covina.
I don't play with them either.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
But yes, we will be out there at Huntington Beach
at the BJ's restaurant and brew house on Beach Boulevard
for Thursday's news.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
And here's something else good. How about your chance at

Speaker 1 (10:22):
We spent about sixteen seconds on this last week at
some point I don't remember. It was like a fever dream.
But there was an emergency World Naked Bike Ride in
Portland that went off this weekend. Usually it's in the summer,
but this was an emergency edition. They had to have
an emergency naked bike ride in Portland due to the
ice activity in the city, so they had to get

(10:47):
naked and get on their bikes and ride to the
Immigration and Customs Enforcement building yesterday. So there are people
on their bikes naked. It rained a bit, so they
have their plastic ponchos over their naked bits on their bikes.
There are runners, they're people holding signs that'd say the
only ice, the only ice I need is for these nips.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
And that's that. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew. You, guys.
The pictures are vast, like street.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Like they also need a nude diet. Like how many
people is that?

Speaker 1 (11:23):
I mean, that's a chorder of a mile of complete
covering of a street of naked runners and bicyclists.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Being from Portland, I've seen this before. It's not something
you want to see.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, I gotta tell you. It's not flattering image of
the It was not super.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Modest, No, it is not.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
And I saw I saw this bike ride when I
lived in Seattle through Fremont and but it was sparsely populated.
I mean there was maybe one hundred people bicyclists here
and there. This is like stacked naked Portland people in
mass and it is a lot, guys, And.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
I wonder do they feel like there's a lot of
attention now on what they're what their plight is. I
mean you mentioned that they this is an emergency version
of the naked.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
I don't understand why they feel the need to make
it naked, because that takes away it looks like an
unseerious to use the word, it looks like an unserious
protest when you take off all your clothes because you
know what, You're no longer making it about the issue,
You're making it about your dangly bits. How am I
to focus on what Ice is doing, sir? When I
can see your breasts and the dangly bits between your

(12:39):
legs on that banana seat, Like, what am I supposed
to think about? You need to make the main thing
the main thing. Keep the main thing the main thing.
When you're naked and your genitals are exposed, that's not it.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Would be my message.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
It was aggressive.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
I'm not the one who took my clothes off and
donned the bicycle.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
For protest, and we're all thankful for that, I know,
But my point is that was hurtful.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Well you on a.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Wednesday, that it's not even ten am, we're not even
done with the first half hour, and you're already being hurtful.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
I thank you, I saw, I heard I should say
what you did this weekend?

Speaker 3 (13:17):
You said it was for me, and it was nice.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yesterday happened to be the tenth anniversary of this show. Yes,
this show, well, okay twelve, so twenty fifteen was the
first day of this show.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
We'll bring it up and then we're going to leave
it alone for peace and respect. But when I got
the news that Diane Keaton had passed, Oh there's that too,
I mistakenly thought that that was our ten year birthday,
and I text Gary, is today the day of our
tenth birthday? And then this happened question mark and he said, no,

(13:53):
the birthday is tomorrow, and I thought, we do not
have that on our conscience because it was weighing heavy
for a moment. That's all we're going to say about
that for respect. Now, yesterday was the actual birthday. Yesterday
was the actual birthday.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yes to the game, Yes, And you made a reference
to a player whose hand has been broken and is
wrapped up like a big club on.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
It left hand. I think it is.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Yeah, And you said Elijah Molden safety. You said he
is going out there like that like Sano's with a
big glove on his hand, basically, And you said you
just did a Thanos reference, and I said, that was
for you.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
It was a gift for our birthday.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
I also realized yesterday when I downloaded the John Candy
documentary on Amazon Prime.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Have you seen it?

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Haven't yet?

Speaker 1 (14:40):
You're gonna cry. It's really good. But can you learn
things about John Candy that you didn't learn? It's called
I like me anyway. I learned from watching that, and
they do a little bit about space Balls that maybe
Do you think I got my inspiration for mister bumber
Puss from John Candy's character of Barf and Spaceballs? Do

(15:03):
you think it was somewhere in the recesses of my mind. No,
I think it was very at the forefront of your mind.
I feel like we've already had this discussion because when
you said half man, half cat, and I remember saying
something along the lines of you mean like Barf from
Spaceballs and just got a blanket.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
I did not connect it. I did not care.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Okay, well, then maybe it is in the back of
your mind somewhere. Maybe it was maybe not for.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Front, but like watching some of those scenes, just so
you know, mister bumber Puss would be completely different, like
he's a different cat.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Wouldn't honestly comic relief the.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Way it would not be.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
No, No, mister bumber Puss is actually something where you'd
feel weird feelings for having, you know, kind of like
the sexualized version of cats.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Okay, uh, when we come back met from that to
world peace. President Trump is signing the twenty point Plan
in Charmel Shake, Egypt to bring peace to the Middle
East hostages. At least the live hostages were returned hours ago.

(16:08):
He's taking credit for three thousand years worth of wartime
having come to an end. Of course he is, he
said it. Maybe it was three thousand, maybe it was
two hundred, maybe it was fifty.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
But it's over. Yeah. Anyway, we'll talk about that.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
And here some of the comments that he made to
the Israeli Kanesse a little bit earlier today as well.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
We are actually, like you said, going to get some
weather a little bit later next hour. We'll give you
an idea of what it is that we can expect. Also,
that crash very dramatic crash at the helicopter in Huntington
Beach amazed that it was not deadly.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
People were injured, but it was not a deadly crash.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It was slow, weirdly slow, and compared to the helicopter
crash that we saw just last week in Sacramento, it
seemed it seems slow.

Speaker 9 (17:01):
The two of you are always not getting the point
of what's going on. It's not the point of the
organ by a ride just to be naked. It's to
mock Ice.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
No, No, we get it, and we get it's to
mock Ice. They want to mock President Trump. They want
to mock what's going on. It's just an unseerious way
to do so. And I quite sure how getting naked
mocks Ice. Well, it's that they want, I don't. They
want to bring attention to what Ice, they say Ice

(17:32):
is doing in Portland and Greater Oregon all over the country.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
And have that large of a protest in front of
ICE headquarters totally clothed and get our attention. Yeah, that
that's what. Yeah, and keep it on what the what
the thing is which is Ice? Because if you take
off your clothes, you're a distraction.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
Period.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah, I agree. I she was just very quiet about
the whole thing, and I didn't know she was trying
to be quiet.

Speaker 9 (17:57):
It's not the point of the organ by ride. I
think an a too long eyes.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Maybe her partner is still sleeping and she's under the
covers and she's like this, I'm going to call them.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
You guys, it's not the naked bike ride. You don't
get it. It's because she don't want to wake them up.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
But she's listening to the show.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
Yeah in error headphones.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Oh okay, that's actually not it. It's not an awful take.

Speaker 8 (18:22):
Congratulations now, at lasts, not only for Israelis, but also
for Palestidians and for many others. The long and painful
nightmare is finally over, and as the dust settles, the
smoke phades, the debris is removed, and the ashes cleaned

(18:43):
from the air. The day that breaks on a region transformed,
and a beautiful and much brighter future appears suddenly within
your reach. This is now a very exciting time for
Israel and for the entire Middle East, because all across
the Middle East, the forces of chaos, terra and ruin

(19:06):
that have plagued the region for decades now stand weakened, isolated,
and totally defeated.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
That was President Trump in front of the Israeli Kanesset,
they basically their parliamentary body, with a big speech today.
This signifies what we believe is the latest ceasefire to
be agreed to between Amas and Israel. All twenty of
the remaining living hostages held in Gaza were turned over.

(19:34):
I think only four bodies were turned over, but the
others are expected to be handed over as part of
this deal. While buses carrying dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners
arrived in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel is eventually
going to release nineteen hundred prisoners and detainees as part

(19:56):
of this ceasefire deal. The President made that speech earlier
today in Israel, but then flew to Charmel Shake, Egypt,
where he just in the last several minutes or so
officially signed the peace deal with representatives there.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
In Egypt, the government shutdown is going to be felt
finally this week. The shutdown has closed some Smithsonian museums
and it is going to.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Result in miss paychecks this week.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
We mentioned with all of the disruptions caused by air
traffic controllers not going to work, calling and sick, what
have you. They were still getting paid. Now we're seeing
people missing paychecks for the first time.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Have you also seen what's going on in Yosemite?

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Yes, illegal base jumpers, squatters are all taken over. We'll
get into all of the latest who will miss a
paycheck and where you'll be able to see the government
shut down hit your life this week.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Hey, Gary and Shannon will continue in just a moment.

Speaker 6 (21:01):
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI
Am six forty.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
I let it get to me. That's the thing. Diane
Katon died over the weekend.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Yeah, what did you like? Get to you?

Speaker 3 (21:17):
I let that get to me.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Oh okay.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
It was sad.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
It was sad and shocking. I mean, she's seventy nine.
Was seventy nine, But still you didn't hear any reports
of her demise.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
And that was that was more the headline last night
this morning than any other, which was the speed of
the decline in health that some people saw her they
said a few months ago, and it wasn't awful. I
believe that she lost a house, or at least her
house was damaged in the fires back in January and

(21:49):
then that caused a certain amount of stress on her,
and she already wasn't doing very well apparently, But again
she was very very quiet about her health.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
But I mean, just seventy nine doesn't kill people anymore.
Seventy nine is not a time when a lot of
people in reasonable health will die of old age.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
It doesn't happen. So what do we know what the
deal was.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
I know she had talked publicly about some struggles, but
you know, we didn't hear cancer or anything like.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
That, at least not yet. I mean, I don't know
if her family will come out and say something. But locally,
former LA Unified Superintendent Austin Butner is going to run
for mayor against Karen Bass as of right now, the
most high profile candidate to officially enter the race. He
said that LA is a drift and that the city
government is failing to meet the basic needs of residents.

(22:41):
He knows a lot about politics in La specific Austin
Butner was once deputy mayor under Via Ragosa. He was
public suerre oft the La Times at one point, and
then spent time as the superintendent of Schools for LA
from twenty eighteen to twenty twenty one.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Well, the government shutdown can use and now we're learning
more about the effects. Tens of thousands of federal employees
have taken retirement or they're voluntary departures on top of
the latest layoffs that are happening because of this, which
is putting a huge strain on agencies. It's being called

(23:20):
a max mass exodus, unprecedented in its scale. One hundred
and fifty four thousand federal employees who accepted buyout offers
and we're removed from the payroll as of the end
of last month.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
This specifically is going to hit this week because of payday,
for example, for military men and women, hundreds of thousands
of members of the military reserves, National Guard October fifteenth,
and it is it's that kind of very specific date
when the paycheck does not come in that a lot

(23:56):
of people start to feel that pinch. And it's not
just those people who are not getting paid, it's those
people who work in places where that money would have gone,
businesses that they would go to, restaurants, et cetera.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yosemite has reportedly descended into chaos.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Since the shutdown.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
There have been increasing reports of illegal base jumping from
el Capitan, you've got squatters filling up campgrounds, climbers using
half done cables without permits. It sounds like for the
most part, except for the squatters and the campgrounds. Although
how you would tell a squatter at a campground from
a normal person in a campground, I don't know. Other

(24:36):
than that, it seems like Darwinism is having its day
at Yosemite.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Well other than those people who are there by definition
or squatters, because the park is supposed to be closed
and they're not supposed to be there.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
I guess I thought they were keeping the National parks open.

Speaker 9 (24:50):
The parks are open, they just have furloughed a lot
of the pop right r.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
They're open that There's just they're not as well policed,
maybe enough, I've ever seen them be policed, but not
police is the wrong word.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Supervised is a better word. But yeah, no, the parks
are open. It's just that people are taking advantage.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
One park employee spoke to sf Gate on condition of anonymity,
so they were only aware of a single volunteer patrolling
the entire park. To my point, you hear them before
you see them. According to a guy who works in
the park. The base jumpers that there are at least

(25:37):
a dozen illegal base jumps in the park. Last week
he said, do you hear them before you see them?
In the parachute pops and there's no more noise.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
The climbers also, social media posts show a bunch of
climbers backed up on the half domeed cables that used
to be the norm until about fifteen years ago they
operated or opened up a permit system. The problem with that,
according to some of the people who know what they're doing,
is that people will break the rules. That poses a
danger because others are then either forced to rescue them

(26:07):
or even recover their bodies in the event of an accident.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
It's kind of weird that they I don't know.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
I don't know this community, but you'd think that people
who delight in places like national parks understand the beauty
and the importance of them and wouldn't want to ruin
that for other people.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
And would police it themselves.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, I'll bet you there is some of that going on.
But then you're gonna get some yahoos out of Clovis
or something like that.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
There the Clovis Yahoo's.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
It's the gateway to the Sierra.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
There are a lot of gateways to the Sierra. As
it turns out, there's a lot of something I've learned.
We do have some weather coming in on the way.
We'll talk about that as we get into the top.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Of the out tail.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
Rain, Oh, tornadoes, that's a lot. That's a lot for us.
When I was picking up coffee in Fort Lawale, yes.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Oh, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
I was in Fort Lauderdale just yesterday, just yester Morn.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
The woman behind the counter making the coffee, was talking
to her friend or her coworker, and said, what is
it with people around here? They don't know how to
drive in the rain. So it's so there's some rain, Okay,
people don't know how to drive. And I'm like, does
everybody have the same conversation in every city, Like in
San Francisco, in La and Seattle, all the places I've lived,
everyone has the same conversation. People don't know how to

(27:29):
drive here when it rains, it happens everywhere. No one
thinks anyone knows how to drive when it rains anywhere.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Yeah, And the percentages are like ninety percent of people
believe that ninety percent of the people don't know how
to drive in the rain.

Speaker 4 (27:43):
Yeah, there's some prosser. There's so much it's comicical.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
Gotta be uh.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, we are out and about once again.
All the permits have been pulled. We can guarantee we're
gonna be live at Bjay's Restaurant and Ruehouse in Hauntington Beach,
the One on Beach.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
We packed it in August. We'll pack it again. Last
time I was there, I hit someone with my car.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Oh, you never know what's gonna happen. This time, you're
gonna be armed.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
I'm always armed.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Good answer. Gary and Shannon will continue right after this.
