have a lot of starting pitching. They only have two
real starters, so they're probably gonna go opener right into Priester,
who's to become their young right handed guy that they
go to here in the postseason.

So we don't know who they're gonna throw.

But they're like the Dodgers a year ago, didn't have
a lot of starting pitching, relying a lot on openers
and long guys out of the bullpen and just kind
of piecing it together every single game.

When you look at the matchup here, what is your
biggest concern and what is your biggest tell?
Speaker 5 (02:52):
Yeah, we got this starting pitching. They've got more starting
pitching than the Milwaukee Brewers. They got an abundance, of
course with Blake Snell, and you're saving Otani for a
possible game for him, and that's like an embarrassment of riches.

And you still got Tyler Glass.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Now you can throw in Game three, you got an
Immett Sheen, you got a Clayton Kershaw, you can go
to the abundance of starting pitching is huge for the Dodgers,
but they need those guys to be good. You can't
have Yama Moto go out there. Last time he was
in Milwaukee in July two thirds of an inning. Yeah,
forty on pitches and he was.

Out of the gates. That cannot happen.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Did they sweep that series?
Speaker 5 (03:25):
They swept all six games, three at in Milwaukee and
the three AT Dodgers stayed him the first three games
after the all time.

Does that play into anything in the head space, Yeah.

Because it's a different team.

Blake Snell didn't pitch against them, Yamamoto was terrible, Otani
didn't pitch against them. Max Munty was hurt, Tommy Edmond
was hurt. It's a complete for the five relievers that
the Dodgers threw against them in those games aren't even
on the postseason roster aren't even around anymore. They're like,
you know, selling insurance somewhere. So it's a different looking Dodger.

But speaking up that bullpen, is that still you think
the weakest part right now, the weakest link for the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Yeah, it's it's it's still an issue because if they
don't get a strong performance out of Snell or Yamamoto,
they're going to eat into that bullpen. And you're talking
about extra innings for Clayton Kershaw in October. You're talking
about image shean being used a lot here. I mean,
you're gonna get to Bessia Robleski.

That's the sound of concern that if you're up, is okay,
but it's not somebody I'd want to go to in
a crunch situation.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Tried in the same deal, Well that the Dodgers.

Just released a roster and they're going with an extra
pitcher on this roster just to have that extra arm.
It's Ben Casparius, who wasn't on the wild card roster,
wasn't on the DS roster and quite frankly wasn't even
around in September because they sent it back to Triple
A to kind of give him some rest because they
used him an awful od during the regular season up
until September first, So Ben Casparius added to the roster

for an extra arm.

Here in this round. Last night's game Mariners in the
Toronto Blue Jays. Mariners won that game. They talked a
lot about Julio Rodriguez not having shown up much in
the previous two series. Shoey Otani's in that same position
where he's the guy that everybody wants to make headlines,
and he's been quiet.

They were two home runs in Game one against the
Reds in Game one of the wild Card round. He
has done nothing since then, and they still won the

Nothing in the sixth inning and fifth inning, and you're

paying attention to it, but she was sitting in front
of the TV. The cal Raley hits a home run
and the guy calling the game goes a home run
for the Big Dumper, and she starts cracking up laughing.

That was Joe David, by the way, on the call
that broadcast.

Right, It was Joe Davis was It was the funniest
anecdote from that game.

It's great the Big Dumper, I mean perfect, what a

way because it's going to be sad watching the Mariners
fans in that game that I stayed up till two
in the morning or whatever watching on was that Friday
Friday night. Oh my gosh, watching those fans in Seattle,
it looks like their whole soul is on the field,

and I love to see that. You know, they hadn't
won in twenty four years, since nineteen ninety nine, and
just I love that, and it gives you chills when
you get a drought like that in any major sport.
But it's gonna feel that much better when the Dodgers
crush all of those souls in the World Series, right.

I guess I can't relate to people openly crying, grown

Because you're a Dodger fan. Dodgers are perennially in the playoffs. Like,
you don't know what it's like to go on a
nineteen year drought.

You just don't, okay, So like if the Chargers get
to the Super Bowl, are we gonna see Charger fans
crying everywhere? Because it hasn't happened very often in their
franchise history. I'm trying to think of an l A
story that's the equivalent of people getting emotional.

They're going to cry over going to it in ALCS
or some LA fans do not cry over that stuff.
But you got to go to the markets where there's
not as much going on. You know, in Seattle, they've
got the Seahawks, they've got the Marritors, I've seen them

There are runners, they're people holding signs that'd say the

for Palestidians and for many others. The long and painful
nightmare is finally over, and as the dust settles, the
smoke phades, the debris is removed, and the ashes cleaned

Israel and for the entire Middle East, because all across

That was President Trump in front of the Israeli Kanesset,
they basically their parliamentary body, with a big speech today.
This signifies what we believe is the latest ceasefire to
be agreed to between Amas and Israel. All twenty of
the remaining living hostages held in Gaza were turned over.

I think only four bodies were turned over, but the
others are expected to be handed over as part of
this deal. While buses carrying dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners
arrived in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel is eventually
going to release nineteen hundred prisoners and detainees as part

of this ceasefire deal. The President made that speech earlier
today in Israel, but then flew to Charmel Shake, Egypt,
where he just in the last several minutes or so
officially signed the peace deal with representatives there.

In Egypt, the government shutdown is going to be felt
finally this week. The shutdown has closed some Smithsonian museums
and it is going to.

Result in miss paychecks this week.

We mentioned with all of the disruptions caused by air
traffic controllers not going to work, calling and sick, what
have you. They were still getting paid. Now we're seeing
people missing paychecks for the first time.

Have you also seen what's going on in Yosemite?

Yes, illegal base jumpers, squatters are all taken over. We'll
get into all of the latest who will miss a
paycheck and where you'll be able to see the government
shut down hit your life this week.

the decline in health that some people saw her they
said a few months ago, and it wasn't awful. I
believe that she lost a house, or at least her
house was damaged in the fires back in January and

then that caused a certain amount of stress on her,
and she already wasn't doing very well apparently, But again
she was very very quiet about her health.

But I mean, just seventy nine doesn't kill people anymore.
Seventy nine is not a time when a lot of
people in reasonable health will die of old age.

It doesn't happen. So what do we know what the
deal was.

I know she had talked publicly about some struggles, but
you know, we didn't hear cancer or anything like.

That, at least not yet. I mean, I don't know
if her family will come out and say something. But locally,
former LA Unified Superintendent Austin Butner is going to run
for mayor against Karen Bass as of right now, the
most high profile candidate to officially enter the race. He
said that LA is a drift and that the city
government is failing to meet the basic needs of residents.

He knows a lot about politics in La specific Austin
Butner was once deputy mayor under Via Ragosa. He was
public suerre oft the La Times at one point, and
then spent time as the superintendent of Schools for LA
from twenty eighteen to twenty twenty one.

Well, the government shutdown can use and now we're learning
more about the effects. Tens of thousands of federal employees
have taken retirement or they're voluntary departures on top of
the latest layoffs that are happening because of this, which
is putting a huge strain on agencies. It's being called

a max mass exodus, unprecedented in its scale. One hundred
and fifty four thousand federal employees who accepted buyout offers
and we're removed from the payroll as of the end
of last month.

This specifically is going to hit this week because of payday,
for example, for military men and women, hundreds of thousands
of members of the military reserves, National Guard October fifteenth,
and it is it's that kind of very specific date
when the paycheck does not come in that a lot

of people start to feel that pinch. And it's not
just those people who are not getting paid, it's those
people who work in places where that money would have gone,
businesses that they would go to, restaurants, et cetera.

Yosemite has reportedly descended into chaos.

Since the shutdown.

There have been increasing reports of illegal base jumping from
el Capitan, you've got squatters filling up campgrounds, climbers using
half done cables without permits. It sounds like for the
most part, except for the squatters and the campgrounds. Although
how you would tell a squatter at a campground from
a normal person in a campground, I don't know. Other

than that, it seems like Darwinism is having its day
at Yosemite.

Well other than those people who are there by definition
or squatters, because the park is supposed to be closed
and they're not supposed to be there.

so they were only aware of a single volunteer patrolling
the entire park. To my point, you hear them before
you see them. According to a guy who works in
the park. The base jumpers that there are at least

a dozen illegal base jumps in the park. Last week
he said, do you hear them before you see them?
In the parachute pops and there's no more noise.

The climbers also, social media posts show a bunch of
climbers backed up on the half domeed cables that used
to be the norm until about fifteen years ago they
operated or opened up a permit system. The problem with that,
according to some of the people who know what they're doing,
is that people will break the rules. That poses a
danger because others are then either forced to rescue them

or even recover their bodies in the event of an accident.

It's kind of weird that they I don't know.

I don't know this community, but you'd think that people
who delight in places like national parks understand the beauty
and the importance of them and wouldn't want to ruin

who's to become their young right handed guy that they
go to here in the postseason.

So we don't know who they're gonna throw.

But they're like the Dodgers a year ago, didn't have
a lot of starting pitching, relying a lot on openers
and long guys out of the bullpen and just kind
of piecing it together every single game.

When you look at the matchup here, what is your
biggest concern and what is your biggest tell?
Speaker 5 (02:52):
Yeah, we got this starting pitching. They've got more starting
pitching than the Milwaukee Brewers. They got an abundance, of
course with Blake Snell, and you're saving Otani for a
possible game for him, and that's like an embarrassment of riches.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And you still got Tyler Glass.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Now you can throw in Game three, you got an
Immett Sheen, you got a Clayton Kershaw, you can go
to the abundance of starting pitching is huge for the Dodgers,
but they need those guys to be good. You can't
have Yama Moto go out there. Last time he was
in Milwaukee in July two thirds of an inning. Yeah,
forty on pitches and he was.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Out of the gates. That cannot happen.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Did they sweep that series?
Speaker 5 (03:25):
They swept all six games, three at in Milwaukee and
the three AT Dodgers stayed him the first three games
after the all time.

Does that play into anything in the head space, Yeah.

Because it's a different team.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Blake Snell didn't pitch against them, Yamamoto was terrible, Otani
didn't pitch against them. Max Munty was hurt, Tommy Edmond
was hurt. It's a complete for the five relievers that
the Dodgers threw against them in those games aren't even
on the postseason roster aren't even around anymore. They're like,
you know, selling insurance somewhere. So it's a different looking Dodger.

But speaking up that bullpen, is that still you think
the weakest part right now, the weakest link for the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Yeah, it's it's it's still an issue because if they
don't get a strong performance out of Snell or Yamamoto,
they're going to eat into that bullpen. And you're talking
about extra innings for Clayton Kershaw in October. You're talking
about image shean being used a lot here. I mean,
you're gonna get to Bessia Robleski.

That's the sound of concern that if you're up, is okay,
but it's not somebody I'd want to go to in
a crunch situation.

Tried in the same deal, Well that the Dodgers.

Just released a roster and they're going with an extra
pitcher on this roster just to have that extra arm.
It's Ben Casparius, who wasn't on the wild card roster,
wasn't on the DS roster and quite frankly wasn't even
around in September because they sent it back to Triple
A to kind of give him some rest because they
used him an awful od during the regular season up
until September first, So Ben Casparius added to the roster

for an extra arm.

Here in this round. Last night's game Mariners in the
Toronto Blue Jays. Mariners won that game. They talked a
lot about Julio Rodriguez not having shown up much in
the previous two series. Shoey Otani's in that same position

crying everywhere? Because it hasn't happened very often in their
franchise history. I'm trying to think of an l A
story that's the equivalent of people getting emotional.

seemed it seems slow.

ICE headquarters totally clothed and get our attention. Yeah, that

the thing is which is Ice? Because if you take
off your clothes, you're a distraction.

That was President Trump in front of the Israeli Kanesset,
they basically their parliamentary body, with a big speech today.
This signifies what we believe is the latest ceasefire to
be agreed to between Amas and Israel. All twenty of
the remaining living hostages held in Gaza were turned over.

I think only four bodies were turned over, but the
others are expected to be handed over as part of
this deal. While buses carrying dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners
arrived in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel is eventually
going to release nineteen hundred prisoners and detainees as part
(19:56):
of this ceasefire deal. The President made that speech earlier
today in Israel, but then flew to Charmel Shake, Egypt,
where he just in the last several minutes or so
officially signed the peace deal with representatives there.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
In Egypt, the government shutdown is going to be felt
finally this week. The shutdown has closed some Smithsonian museums
and it is going to.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Result in miss paychecks this week.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
We mentioned with all of the disruptions caused by air
traffic controllers not going to work, calling and sick, what
have you. They were still getting paid. Now we're seeing
people missing paychecks for the first time.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Have you also seen what's going on in Yosemite?
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Yes, illegal base jumpers, squatters are all taken over. We'll
get into all of the latest who will miss a
paycheck and where you'll be able to see the government
shut down hit your life this week.

It was sad and shocking. I mean, she's seventy nine.
Was seventy nine, But still you didn't hear any reports
of her demise.

And that was that was more the headline last night
this morning than any other, which was the speed of
the decline in health that some people saw her they
said a few months ago, and it wasn't awful. I
believe that she lost a house, or at least her
house was damaged in the fires back in January and

then that caused a certain amount of stress on her,
and she already wasn't doing very well apparently, But again
she was very very quiet about her health.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
But I mean, just seventy nine doesn't kill people anymore.
Seventy nine is not a time when a lot of
people in reasonable health will die of old age.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
It doesn't happen. So what do we know what the
deal was.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
I know she had talked publicly about some struggles, but
you know, we didn't hear cancer or anything like.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
That, at least not yet. I mean, I don't know
if her family will come out and say something. But locally,
former LA Unified Superintendent Austin Butner is going to run
for mayor against Karen Bass as of right now, the
most high profile candidate to officially enter the race. He
said that LA is a drift and that the city
government is failing to meet the basic needs of residents.
(22:41):
He knows a lot about politics in La specific Austin
Butner was once deputy mayor under Via Ragosa. He was
public suerre oft the La Times at one point, and
then spent time as the superintendent of Schools for LA
from twenty eighteen to twenty twenty one.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Well, the government shutdown can use and now we're learning
more about the effects. Tens of thousands of federal employees
have taken retirement or they're voluntary departures on top of
the latest layoffs that are happening because of this, which
is putting a huge strain on agencies. It's being called
(23:20):
a max mass exodus, unprecedented in its scale. One hundred
and fifty four thousand federal employees who accepted buyout offers
and we're removed from the payroll as of the end
of last month.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
This specifically is going to hit this week because of payday,
for example, for military men and women, hundreds of thousands
of members of the military reserves, National Guard October fifteenth,
and it is it's that kind of very specific date
when the paycheck does not come in that a lot
(23:56):
of people start to feel that pinch. And it's not
just those people who are not getting paid, it's those
people who work in places where that money would have gone,
businesses that they would go to, restaurants, et cetera.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yosemite has reportedly descended into chaos.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Since the shutdown.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
There have been increasing reports of illegal base jumping from
el Capitan, you've got squatters filling up campgrounds, climbers using
half done cables without permits. It sounds like for the
most part, except for the squatters and the campgrounds. Although
how you would tell a squatter at a campground from
a normal person in a campground, I don't know. Other
(24:36):
than that, it seems like Darwinism is having its day
at Yosemite.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Well other than those people who are there by definition
or squatters, because the park is supposed to be closed
and they're not supposed to be there.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
I guess I thought they were keeping the National parks open.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
The parks are open, they just have furloughed a lot
of the pop right r.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
They're open that There's just they're not as well policed,
maybe enough, I've ever seen them be policed, but not
police is the wrong word.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
I guess.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Supervised is a better word. But yeah, no, the parks
are open. It's just that people are taking advantage.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
I guess.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
One park employee spoke to sf Gate on condition of anonymity,
so they were only aware of a single volunteer patrolling
the entire park. To my point, you hear them before
you see them. According to a guy who works in
the park. The base jumpers that there are at least
(25:37):
a dozen illegal base jumps in the park. Last week
he said, do you hear them before you see them?
In the parachute pops and there's no more noise.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
The climbers also, social media posts show a bunch of
climbers backed up on the half domeed cables that used
to be the norm until about fifteen years ago they
operated or opened up a permit system. The problem with that,
according to some of the people who know what they're doing,
is that people will break the rules. That poses a
danger because others are then either forced to rescue them
(26:07):
or even recover their bodies in the event of an accident.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
It's kind of weird that they I don't know.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
I don't know this community, but you'd think that people
who delight in places like national parks understand the beauty
and the importance of them and wouldn't want to ruin
that for other people.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
And would police it themselves.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, I'll bet you there is some of that going on.
But then you're gonna get some yahoos out of Clovis
or something like that.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
There the Clovis Yahoo's.

It's the gateway to the Sierra.

There are a lot of gateways to the Sierra. As
it turns out, there's a lot of something I've learned.

The woman behind the counter making the coffee, was talking
to her friend or her coworker, and said, what is
it with people around here? They don't know how to
drive in the rain. So it's so there's some rain, Okay,
people don't know how to drive. And I'm like, does
everybody have the same conversation in every city, Like in
San Francisco, in La and Seattle, all the places I've lived,
everyone has the same conversation. People don't know how to

drive here when it rains, it happens everywhere. No one
thinks anyone knows how to drive when it rains anywhere.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Yeah, And the percentages are like ninety percent of people
believe that ninety percent of the people don't know how
to drive in the rain.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Yeah, there's some prosser. There's so much it's comicical.
