Happy Happy Saturday during you know the wicked season, Halloween.
A little bit of weather coming, a little bit of wind.
You know how it is once fall comes. I am
your well fed host, Neil Sevadra. Thanks for hanging out
(01:02):
on the four Report, where we celebrate food. Of course,
when we hit the holidays, once we come out of August,
we go straight into a different programming mode, and that
is we talk about food and beverages still, but we
like to add other elements for the holidays in so
we're mixing things up. Don't forget to check out our
buddy Clay Row and his amazing online radio station dead
(01:27):
air dot Co.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Dead air dot Co.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Some of the music played today is actually curated by
Claire Clay and dead Air Claire Claire Deadclaire dot coo,
dead Air dot co weird combination, but it's somehow it works,
all right. My buddy Darcy is with us a Darcy
standa fourth. She is a host and producer of the
(01:52):
Mysteries Decoded podcast. She's a TEDx speaker, she's a ghost host,
a lecturer, writer, she does music, film, comedy, magic, and
we've talked a little bit of magic, but we haven't
gone in depth because I go way back.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
I participate in the Ledger domain, so definitely something we
got to get into. Darcy, welcome back to the show.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Hi, Neil, It's so great to be here.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, this is cool because we're a little different setup today,
so we're seeing each other but we are over the phone.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
But you look at Dorbs balls, my.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Dear, thank you, thank you. I was all ready but
we had to switch formats. But we're still doing it.
We're still doing it.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, and you know that I'm a lover of Houdini
as well. So you said, is let's see your Houdini pen?
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Is that what it is? Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Right there? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Well, well I'm not gonna, you know, lift my pants
up to show you my tattoo, but it's there.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I've seen it. Ye seen it, You have seen it.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
It is my left leg. My calf is Houdini, Harry
Houdini in shackles. That's how I like my men.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
So I like to throw a little curveball into things,
keep things fresh. So this is this is the beginning
of your heavy holiday season as well. What what are
you doing? Where are you giving lectures? Where are you
giving tours? What's going on?
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Where am I not? Right now? So right I think
for a lot of folks it is the beginning. I
am in like month three of spooky season. Honestly, it
started in August for me this year and every year
it's early and earlier for some people. That's what Christmas
is for me, it's mopooky season. So last night I
(03:41):
did two tours of the Kellogg House back to back.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Explain not the Kellogg House is because it is a
special location here in the Southland.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
It is so the Kellogg House is a Queen Anne
Victorian with neoclassical elements. Deaned the house whisper very strict
on these things. Uh. And it was built by Hiram
Clay kell On for his second wife, Helen kell On.
The wedding gifts and it now resides at the Heritage
(04:13):
Museum of Orange County and it serves as a wedding
and events space by day and a hands on learning
children hands on learning museum for kids. But at night
we give haunted historical tours. And that's where I was
twice for two tours last night, and we need to
not giving you the house. I gotta say some things
(04:34):
I couldn't explain.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
What, yeah, do you do you hope for that when
you're giving a tour, a haunted tour, do you want
the crap to go down?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
I mean, sure, it's great, it definitely makes a good experience,
but I have to continuedly tell people, like, we're not
a rigged attraction, like this is not It's not like
I walk into one part of the house and hit
it button and then all of a sudden it's like,
oh now the things are happening.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah, it's not like that.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It's not like the magic castle or something in the
Houdina seance room.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
No.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
And so last night, in the middle of one of
the tours, just a very loud shift in the attic
like somebody had like kind of plunk down on the ground,
and so that was something.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I was like, oh, I guess we're like what was that?
And I was like, I don't know, And you know,
I it's myself and one staff and then my tour,
so I know where everyone is and I'm in the
house so much. I know when it sounds like it's settling.
And that wasn't it last night? That wasn't it?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
So had it when that happens.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
I mean today we've had tons of things happening on
the program, our new board op Mario is learning and
God bless him. We all have our first days as well,
and you're going to have things, but we're kind of
we kind of just pushed through it.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Right, it's live radio. We pushed through it.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
But when you're doing that, when you're doing a tour
about a potentially haunted place, do you stop and then
be quiet to like to emphasize it?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Do you look at you?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
I mean you kind of have to write because the thing,
you know, sometimes if it's a noise or a knock,
that doesn't stop us for very long. But two examples,
I'll give you the first thing Last Halloween, when I
was doing the tour at the house. We were on
the second floor and One of the most amazing things
about the Kellogg is the second floor of that house
(06:43):
because you can see into the attic. The attict is
what you'd call it open concepts. I don't think Hiram
calls is that. But you can see into the attic.
That's beautiful. And we're all up there and I'm talking
about the family, and all of a sudden, just we
all heard the sound of steps walking in the attic
and everyone stopped and we looked up, and then everyone
(07:05):
looked at me and went, are those footsteps? And I said, yes,
those are footsteps I don't like. And we all had
to kind of take that in for a moment, right
and see if it happened again. So definitely had a
stomp on that.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
And then the other.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Time, my mom was actually on this tour, so she
was witnessing this, but a bunch of other people were too.
We were in what we call the architecture Room, which
is a room that highlights the work of highrom Quake Kellog,
not just in the house but throughout southern California, and
there's branding irons that hang on the wall, and one
of those branding irons just started swaying away from the
(07:42):
wall and everyone's like, that is moving, and I'm like,
yes it is. We all stopped, took a few moments,
got some evidence, things like that, and then after the
tour I borrowed a few guests and asked them to
try and help me debunk it. And I could not
debunk it. And it happened on two tours in a row.
Oh and it's never happened again. So yeah, we got
(08:03):
to stop for things like that. But you know what
that right there worth the press of admission tour guide.
I can't compete with that.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
You've got to have spook pricing, like surge pricing. When
there's something like that, they have to pay twice as much,
like before they can leave. Now we're gonna charge you more. Already,
stick around. We're talking with my friend Darcy Stana Fourth.
Not only is she host and producer of the Mysterious
Decoded podcasts and a off sought speaker, she's a host
(08:35):
and lecturer and she gives tours in some of the haunted,
most haunted places here in southern California. She also happens
to be the sister of Dean Sharp, who's heard here
every single Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
So stick around.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Also want to bring you up on and let you
know that we're uh investigating and finding out more information
about the helicopter crash in Huntington Beach. Three hospitals hospitalized
at this point. It was right along Pacific Coast Highway
in Huntington Beach and about thirty some odd minutes ago
(09:09):
or more, maybe just about an hour. So we're finding
out more about that, and if there is a press
conference or something you need to know, of course we
will be breaking in.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
So stick around and go no where.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
You're listening to The Fork Report with Nil Savedra on
demand from KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
It's the Fork Report all Things Food, beverage and beyond.
We are in the spooky season eyeballs deep right now
as we are celebrating Halloween throughout the month, and then
we'll move to Thanksgiving and then to Christmas and the length.
So we change things up a little bit, add to
our food and beverage, talk about events and things that
(09:51):
are going on. A couple of things. First of the news,
Huntington Beach. There is an investigation underway a helicopter crash
right there in an intersection. We all know pch and
huntingdon Street know it very well.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
It's right.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
There's some trees right there in the front of the
Hyatt Regency Hotel that showed I saw the video. Just
insane the way the helicopter just came down in that area.
It seems that the two that were in the two
people that were in the helicopter were pulled out, okay,
there were three people that were on the ground At
this point. It's said that they are in the hospital.
(10:29):
With unknown further details about how they're doing or any
of that. We just know that they've been taken to
the hospital. If there is any more news, of course,
Eileen Gonzalez will jump in. If there is a press conference,
we will go to that as well. But right now
it is cordoned off so it's all wrapped up in
(10:50):
that area.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
You can't get.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Through it, So keep that in mind, and of course
the hope is that everyone is okay. Also, you can
follow me on Instagram at fok Reporter at fork Reporter
on Instagram.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
And the music you've.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Been hearing has been compliments curated by deadair dot Co.
Deadair dot Co check it out if you love Halloween
music and really obscure, not just like monster Mash played
over and over and over, nothing like that, but really
great fun. They do have a couple of versions of that,
(11:26):
but it's not like that. It's like really cool, fun,
funky music there at deadair dot Co. My guest right
now is Darcy Staniforth, and she she's a renaissance woman,
is what she is. She does all kinds of stuff
and we get along swimmingly because of that. But she's
the host and producer of the Mysteries Decoded podcast. She
(11:49):
is a speaker, ghost host. She does ghost tours. Tell
people how they can go see one of your tours.
I would imagine they fill up quite quickly this time
the year.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
They do. But if they want to come on a tour,
there are sci tours available and there's always a chance
of adding more tours if we need to. But Haunted
OC dot com Haunted Orange County is who I do
the tours for. I'm also the director of tour operations
for them. So if you go to HAUNTEDOC dot com
and go under ghost walks, you can find all of
(12:23):
our amazing ghost walks and I happen to do two
of them downtown Santa Anna and the Callogg House of
the Heritage Museum of Orange.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
County, Santana. All right, Sana, Santana.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
So do you do you check these places out and
then do like history checks? Do you go through and
find out the lore versus things that you can actually
confirm or how do you do that before you you
design a walk or a tour.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, so you know, part of my goal as a
ghost host is to make sure. But I'm also a historian,
right so my field as American studies the how and
why of American history and culture. So I always want
to go stories to be good, but I want the
history to be correct, and so sometimes you take on
(13:11):
tours like I took on the Downtown antur and went
back and rechecked some of the history, made sure we
added some new stories in as we could. And then
as a researcher, I'm continually trying to dive back into
my tours to make sure the history we're presenting is correct.
And I find that it's not, I'll fix it because
(13:32):
I think it's really important for us to do that.
So because we do Haunted historical tours, all of our
tour guides are doing the best best Haunted You know,
tourism out there, I think, but they're also doing really
good history and telling you really engaging stories. So I
want to make sure that people that are going away
because I don't get to control the narrative. Once I
(13:54):
tell the story, I don't get to control how that
goes out into the world. So I want to make
sure at least they're getting that history part right, and
then maybe they can make the ghost stories even better.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
I don't know, Yeah, because I think that there's enough
like creepiness in American history to begin, I mean, just.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
All of them.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Yeah, that you don't need to make this crap up.
It is fascinating on its own, I mean.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
And one of the things I talk a lot about
on the Kelegg housecour is Victorian deaf culture. And let's
talk about people just kind of backing up in the
room from that because they're like, what do you what
do you mean made things out of hair? And I'm like,
uh huh oh.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
By the way, on that note, I want to remind
people that Victorian death culture is playing the Saharis stage
this year Richell.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
So looking forward to that, Victorians to.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
That, Yeah, do you think Clay is playing them on
dead Air Victorian culture exactly.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
I'm sure. I'm sure he is.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Indeed, Darcy stand a fourth that is d A R
see why sta n I f O R t H
on Instagram and any other addresses or places where you
want them to check out haunted oc dot com as well.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Yeah, the Heritage Museum and the Willela Howe waffle House
Medical Museum. That's a lot to say. But if you
find me at Darcy Stantafforth on Instagram, I miss Darcy
Standaforth on TikTok and pretty much if you google Darcystanaforth,
this shining face comes up in ft of my handle.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
That's awesome. Thanks, my dear for taking the time to
come on. It's always nice to see your face and
to get a chance to talk to you. You're fascinating
and your lovely human being, and I count it a
real plus to my life that you are a friend.
So always good to see.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
You, Always good to see you. Neil, I count it
the same way. Thanks so much. Have a great rest
of the show.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
All right, my friend, it's the four Report of Neil
Servadri at KFI AIM six forty.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
You're listening to you with the Fork Report with Nil
Savedra on demand from KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Hey everybody, it's the Fork Report. I'm Neil Savedra. Thanks
for hanging out today. It is spooky season, and of
course that's what we're focusing on. Not only are we
going to do food as we always do, but I'm
doing things a little different as we go into the
holidays to focus on, uh, you know, some fun, different things,
(16:26):
events that are going on and stuff like that. So
I got a lot of great feedback and I appreciate
that from you, and we're going to continue to do
it through the end of the year with each different
holiday and the like things to do for family or
adults and stuff like that. I would love for you
to join me on social media on Instagram. You can
(16:50):
find me at Fork Reporter at Fork Reporter on Instagram.
That's all the food stuff and fun things or things
hopefully that'll make you laugh, just to keep us connected
on what's going on. If you are into art and
making things, that's a big hobby of mine, three D printing,
(17:10):
laser cutting, fixing things, making things, and all kinds of
art and stuff like that, then you can join me
on my newest Instagram, which is sav Co Industries on
there as well, So saa V just like the beginning
of my last name, COO Industries. And that's some of
(17:34):
the stuff that I'm working on for Halloween that I've
been building. Stuff like that. You can find that there.
Sometimes they share them on both, but ones mostly focused
on food and the other is more of the stuff
that I do when I'm not on the air. But
I'd love for you to check that out. And of
course check out my buddies online radio station deadair dot
(17:55):
Co deadair dot Co for just fantastic Halloween music year
round there all right. So as people get into the season,
just like we're talking about, there's all kinds of chains, food,
fast food chains and the like that are getting in
on it as well. And some of those things that
are going on all over the place are at these
(18:17):
fast food joints. So McDonald's is bringing back the boo buckets.
If you remember that, it came back a couple of
years ago and people were thrilled about it. So more
and more we started seeing these pop up. I'm not
as crazy about them as I was the early ones.
The early ones I think had lids and all that.
(18:41):
They're a little cheaper than they used to be, but
they're still super cute and fun and if you like that,
you can get them with your your your happy meals.
There is when they give those out. So the ghosts,
the Pumpkin, the gobble, and the cat, the zombie. They
you know, they've had witches, they've had all kinds of
(19:02):
things like that, but you can still find those going on.
It starts on October twenty first, where you can get
those boo buckets the pails. They have been part of
the chain's Halloween promotions since the eighties and they return
with those new ones. The ghost, the Pumpkin, the Goblin,
the cat, and zoombe some new faces. The artwork's a
(19:25):
little different this year. They look kind of fun. We
get them from my boy. He's kind of growing out
of them at this point, but they're fun to get,
all right. Burger King has a new menu now for
the holiday as well. They've launched their Monster menu for October.
Chain is calling the promotion do the Monstermage and say
(19:46):
it's run at participating US restaurants, So get in for that,
and that just means they're specially foods. They kind of
just put a twist on the stuff that they have right.
So the Jack O'Lantern Whopper, it's their class flame grilled whopper,
but it's stacked with American cheese, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, ketchup,
and mayo. But it's on a striking Jack o'lan an
(20:10):
orange bun, topped with black sesame seeds. It's kind of
creepy looking, but it looks neat as well. It's pretty
vibrant and definitely something different when you see it. They're
vampire nuggets. They're crispy chicken nuggets, but they're shaped like
vampire fangs and bats, and they're served in a carton
designed as a coffin so you can dip and share
(20:33):
and enjoy all of these treats as well. I like
the coffin box. Pretty Dope Mummy Mozzarella Fries. That's mozzarella
sticks in a limited addition Mummy themed box. It's served
a course with mar Nara sauce, because that's what you
want with your mozzarella sticks. The Frankin Candy Sunday, so
(20:55):
that's your creamy vanilla soft serf. It's topped with a
Frankin mix. I love marketing a Frankin mix of Oreo
cookie crumbles, purple Frankin candy syrup, and purple and green
popping candy. So this starts in just a couple of
days on the thirteenth. The chain will also sell Halloween
(21:17):
buckets in participating restaurants, and that's always as supplies last,
of course. So this year they say they've dialed up
the fun and flavor. Not only would their monster menu lineup,
but with themed menu innovations and all kinds of different
packaging and stuff like that. So enjoy that at your
local burger king. Shake Shack is having some fun with
(21:40):
a holiday as well. Shake Shack is offering delicious scary
deals all October. Chain has confirmed that each week in
October is going to feature a new deal, and this
is all going to be available via its mobile app
and in stores. But the thing is that's one of
the ways they want to connect with you is through
these mobile apps.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
So a lot of these things often tie into that.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
The Protion Apply promotion rather applies only at participating US locations,
but places where you're not going to find them is
the locations in stadiums or arenas or.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
You know, airports, things like that. Is not going to
have it.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
But the first offer runs from October first to today.
Customers can buy a smoke shack and get another one free.
Customers can also use the promo code spooky when ordering
in the shake app or at the Kiosks. So additional
(22:40):
meals and deals and stuff like that will go on.
So tomorrow there'll be a new one that will go
through October twenty second, and they'll keep adding those. If
you go to shakesheck, all right, some more deals and
the like when we come back for the holidays to go.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
Nowhere, you're listening to the Fork Report with Nil Savedra
on demand from KFI. AM.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Six guys like looking in a mirror that we look
so like me and your man.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Kayla, I'm sorry, you look like who is it.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Like like in the in the guns in the chest area.
Oh yeah, you know, we're about to get a bunch
of food after we leave here, so then maybe it'll
look like you after that.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
But right now, I don't think that there's that is rough.
I'm sorry, man, I'm sorry. Okay, all right, let's get
on with the show. Back to off the mic for you.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
That's where I like your best, poor best that's me,
poor bastard KF.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
I'm six forty.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
It's the four Report, all things Food, beverage and beyond.
I am your well fed host, Neil Servader. How do
you do? Thanks for hanging out today. We got three
hours every Saturday to celebrate food and we kind of
shake off the you know, all the garbage of the week.
You know, there's there's plenty of news to go around,
all kinds of stuff going around, but this is our place,
(23:58):
our little sanctuary. Did you celebrate food During the holidays,
we switch things up and we bring in other dimensions
and levels of things to do and events going on
and stuff like that. So thanks for hanging out, and
we'll be doing this change slightly changed format throughout the
rest of the year for the holidays, bringing on interesting people,
(24:20):
decorating and talk about decorating your home, doing all kinds
of stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
So thanks for hanging out.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
All right, back to fast food places and the like
that are enjoying the holidays by making fun things for you.
We talked about shake shacks scary deals for all of October.
A lot of them are rolling them out throughout the
entirety of October. Some of them are tying them into
their apps and their rewards programs, so keep that in mind.
(24:47):
Krispy Kreme always does this, and Krispy Kreme has, you know,
their holiday. They're very big on their holiday different designs
and stuff like that, and right now is no different.
Their donuts are now decorated with designs such as monsters.
They've got pumpkins, and they have special seasonal icing sprinkles, orange, black, green, purple,
(25:09):
those kinds of things, and I like seeing more of that,
by the way. I mean, I love the standard black
and orange, of course, and that was the colors of
KFI that we used forever, so I've kind of got
a big heart for those as well. But there's something
about purple and green too, the witch and goblin and
monster colors that I think go well with this tummy year.
(25:29):
So the jacka Lantern, the shell donut decorated with orange
and green butter cream, got that jack lantern face on it.
The candy bag, it's their original glazed donut there that
we all know and love, but it's got chocolate butter cream,
sprinkle of Trick or Treat candy blend, and a caramel swirl.
(25:51):
The spooky sprinkle is their original glazed doughnut dipped in
green icing and topped with ghostly Halloween sprinkles. Cookies and
scream God you love you gotta love the puns during
the holidays, So cookies and scream House. It's their shell
doughnut dipped in chocolate ice cing icing and silver chocolate
(26:12):
cookie crumbs, topped with purple icing and spooky haunted mansion pieces.
So a lot going on there that you can get
into if you are so inclined there. I do enjoy
some crispy cream from now and again, So this other
one I didn't expect. I was like, going through them,
(26:33):
I go, that makes sense, that makes sense. But Cold
Stone Creamery they've got a treat menu as well, so
they've got their trigger treat creation. It's the Boo Batter
ice cream kit kat, Halloween Oreo cookies and M and
M's Milk chocolate candies. Then they've got the ice cream Taco,
the boot Batter ice Cream Taco. It's an ice cream
(26:54):
wrapped in an orange waffle taco and coated with chocolate
and spooky sprinkles. The Witch is Boo Shake. It's Boo
Batter ice cream Halloween Oreo cookies and spooky sprinkles on
that and these are what they've got going on right now.
So check out some of those places if you're with
the kids, I want to have some fun.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Stick around.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
We've got more to come on The Fork Report, our
last hour today as we celebrate all things Halloween and
beyond this SCFI heard everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. You've
been listening to The Fork Report, you can always hear
us live on KFI AM six forty two to five
pm on Saturday, and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
