(00:00):
It's KMF. I am six fortyand you're listening to the Conway Show on
demand on the iHeartRadio app. Geta lot to cover today, and we're
gonna be in Hunting to Beach tomorrowfrom four to seven pm Twitter Main Street
at Bjay's Restaurant and brew House. You can get those seven dollars mini deep

(00:20):
dish pizzas, the five dollar craftbeers or six dollars Margarita's. We're gonna
have a blast tomorrow. And aguy threatening to join us, maybe maybe
not. We're trying to get himdown. There is Dean Sharp and he's
with us. Dean, how youbub threatening? I'm threatening to join you?
You're threatening, buddy. I trymy best, all right, all

(00:42):
right. I know you're busy withTina. You got a lot going on.
You got a lot of busy.I mean you're working seven days a
week. You work at your businessfive days a week, and then you
work on the radio two days aweek. You never take any time off.
That's not true, but it doesseem that way. Something It does
seem. I'm not a workaholic.I really am not. Okay, you
know, but we we just gotto find we you know, we find

(01:03):
our space. We find our space. I think it was I can't remember.
I think it was Norm MacDonald thatsaid, if you're an alcoholic,
you certainly picked the most fun diseaseto have. That's probably, that's probably.
He also said, if you're gambling, gambling is the only disease where
you can make a lot of money, which I think is part of the

(01:23):
disease. All right, let's talkabout painting, Yes, sir, I
like to paint myself when I whenI when I, I mean not now
myself, but the rooms in ourhouse. But I never feel like I
do a good enough job, eventhough my wife says it's okay. I
always feel like I should hire somebodydo that. Do you do you think

(01:44):
that's an important person to hire?Well, you know, it depends,
It really depends. You know.I gave you in the notes this week.
I gave you a little paint andpainting quiz, right, okay.
One of the questions on that inlike number seven down there, blank,
blank is eighty percent of a goodpaint job. Okay, Okay, I

(02:05):
would say brushes nope, no,oh, equality of paint nope. Wow.
Wait a minute, okay, blankis eighty percent of good paint job
taping. Well no, no,not really, no, I go for
three. What is it? Surfaceprep, preparation, Okay, all right,
And so that's why I brought itup because the answer to your question

(02:28):
is the reason why most people walkaway from their own DIY paint job feeling
like, h I don't know,I think for some reason, I think
a pro would have done it better. The reality is, don't really think
so, I don't really think. So here's the reason you want to hire
a pro. You just don't wantto put in the energy, Okay,
Because really, a good paint jobit's all about prep. It's about checking

(02:53):
out the walls. It's about takingthe existing paint surface on there and roughing
it up to make sure it's goingto bond. Well, It's about filling
in, you know, a littlenicks and dings. It's about doing wood
filler and then sanding. I meanit, I mean, honestly, Tim,
The idea of painting for me hasalways I mean, for you know,

(03:13):
for as long as I've been buildinghomes is kind of you know,
it sounds romantic and fun, youbut you know, buy a few pizzas,
have some friends over have a paintparty. But the reality is it's
like eighty percent just sitting there, just trying to just TICKI tac little things.
It's boring as hell, right, and but it's critically critically important,

(03:34):
and that's what makes for the goodjob at the end, right. And
then putting out the drop claus. No matter how if you put a thousand
drop claws in a room, you'regonna have a drop of paint on the
carpet somewhere. That's probably true, always, always probably. I'm I was
not shocked, but I'm surprised thatI think quality of paint really matters as

(03:54):
well. Like I know David Cohen, he's a friend of yours, a
friend of mine at Cataline Paint, great guy, and they the difference between
quality paint and the you know, colored water where they sell at a bunch
of stores is a big difference too, as far as you know putting on
multiple multi coats, it is amassive difference. The best advice I could

(04:17):
ever give to anybody other than preparationis eighty percent is by absolutely the best
paint you can afford to buy,and you will not regret it. Here's
the ideal situation. You want thepaint to last so long that you actually
get tired of the color before thepaint fails you, okay, you get

(04:38):
bored with the color. So thisweekend, by the way, on Sunday,
I got my buddy David Vaughan, who is the West Coast regional sales
manager for Benjamin Moore, my favoritepaint on Planet Earth. Literally, in
my opinion, the best paint thatyou could ever put on a brush.
And so we'll be we're going tobe talking about that. What quality paint

(04:59):
in white matters. I think BenjaminMoore is the main player at Catalina Paint.
It is. Yeah, Catalina isa Benjamin Moore independent dealer. That's
their deal. And that's why youknow they do so well. It's just
it's brilliant paint, it really is. I also like, and I don't
know why, but I like walkingaround there's not a Catalina Paint commercial,

(05:20):
but when you walk around the storethere's no prices on a lot of stuff.
I like that. It's like youdo, it doesn't matter what it
costs. If it's good quality, you're going to spend money and it's going
to be great. Well, I'lltell you what I will tell you this.
This is another thing that we're goingto be talking about on Sunday.
If you really want to do paintright, you know. And I got

(05:41):
nothing against a big box store.Honestly, I got nothing against a big
box store. But if you askme, where do you go Dean when
you need to figure stuff out?I go to an actual professional paint store,
like a Catalina Paints. I goto Catalina Paints right here in my
town. Because the guys behind thecounter there, they know paint. They
weren't working in the garden department lastweek. Okay, they're not there because

(06:02):
they got a ninety minute paint departmenttraining video. These are some of them
are ex painters, former painters, some of them, you know. I
mean, these guys know. AndI will sit, you know, I'll
grab the stool and I'll pull itup the counter and I'm like, all
right, guys, here's my situation. And I'm always bringing in weird stuff
because the nature of the ultra customstuff that I do. Sometimes we're doing

(06:24):
stuff it's never been done before, and I'm like, all right, I've
got a fifteen foot fiberglass pig.And then you know, and they're like,
wait what, And we got tofigure out what to do with it.
Remember the old days where if youran out of paint, you would
have to buy another gallon, andthere's no way it was going to match.
Back when you builders imporium, theygot close. But now with these

(06:46):
new computers, it's exact. It'sreally really tight. However, I will
tell you this, here's another pieceof advice for people who were thinking about
bringing home some paint. If you'rebringing home more than one gallon, do
yourself a huge favor. If that, If that, if all that paint
is going up in the same space, then you should bring yourself home a
five gallon bucket and makes you fivegallon. But mix them all together.

(07:08):
I never thought about that. Blendthem all together and then pour them back
into the individual gallon cans and storethem, and that way, you know,
all three, four or five ofthose gallons totally consistent. That's a
great idea. I never thought aboutit. Did you come up with that?
Yeah? I literally invent my Okay, all right, of course I
think you did. Okay, I'msorry, we way, it's been for

(07:30):
years. I'm giving you credit forthat, buddy, all right, that's
fine. Yeah, all right,we will speak to you next week.
Love having you come on. Andas I said, I think I text
you this. You're the I thinkour only guess because you don't come on
and talk about politics whatever. Wehave one hundred percent positive feedback when you
come on. Oh wow, wedon't. It's very tough. It's better

(07:50):
than my own show. It todo that show and just just come on
with you and that's it. Allright, buddy, have a nice weekend.
I'll be listening Saturday and Sunday tothe Home show at home with I'd
like to take tim phone. You'rehome, all right, buddy. Thanks
Deed Sharp. Everybody the house whisperevery single Saturday and Sunday here on KFI.

(08:15):
So tuning in Saturday morning from Ithink six to eight and on my
notes with me, and then Sundayfrom nine to noon. I believe.
I think that's right. So twohours on Saturday and three hours on Sunday.
All right, we're live. Seeyou tomorrow in Huntington Beach, two
Outer Main Street, Bjay's brew HouseRestaurant or restaurant and brew House. We
will see you there from four toseven tomorrow. You're listening to Tim Conway

(08:37):
Junior on demand from KFI AM sixforty. We are going to be speaking
with doctor Ray KUSCHERI. Doctor Ray, you may remember him during COVID.
He kept us all sane, toldus what to do, what not to
do, how to behave and ohman, that guy was great. And
he's coming off with us at sixo'clock. So whatever you're doing, do

(09:03):
it now. Be back here inthirty nine minutes. Doctor Ray Cascher,
All right, we have Tarzana.Another one of these robberies. It seems
like they're happening every day now. This happened on Tampa, just south of
Ventura. I'm very familiar with thatarea. My wife and I lived over
in that area for quite some time, off of k Hill and ox Start.

(09:28):
K Hill and ox Start. Beautifulhouse there, and I know this
area. There's a our KFC growingup. My mom and dad had a
house and they invited me to staywhen I was born, which was cool
of them. But that was ourKFC on that corner Tampa and Ventura.

(09:50):
I don't know if it's still thereor not. It wasn't a dine in
KFC. It was just go inthere, take your chicken and get the
hell out. That's where we usedto get our big buckets of chicken.
You remember those big buckets, likethirty pieces of beautiful chicken in there.
Oh man. When that bucket camehome, everybody stopped what they were doing.

(10:11):
You could smell that Kentucky fried chickencoming into the house, with the
potatoes, the gravy, the coastlaw, the rolls. Everybody stopped when
that bucket came home and back then, and that was a sweet deal.
I think it still is. Soanyway, this happened in the shadow of

(10:33):
that KFC on Tampa and Ventura givea couple of warning shots the back of
their cars to come out to comeback. When Julian Harper Smith saw get
away driver and would be burglars jumphis neighbor's wall last night, he grabbed
flashing lights and his paintball gun.You guys, I see like, turn
the light. It took the turnit turn light on. It lit up
all the trees behind me. Sothey pretty much seen that. They ran

(10:54):
back to their car, and thenI was right there next with That's when
he says he shot paintballs pepper ballsat the suspects to scare them off.
You know, this is the lunaticneighbor who you're always keeping an eye on
until this happens. And then he'sthe hero of the block because he saved
you, your property, your wife, your kids. The whole run.

(11:16):
They weren't able to take anything. It was after ten pm last night off
Aura Avenue in Tarzana. The ownerof the targeted house says his family was
home when it happened. I wasscared of my family one hundred percent,
and they were nervous. And it'snot good. I'm gonna have to go
get some more security stuff now.Another neighbor was surprised by the news.
Shocked. I was shocked, don'tI don't remember having any burglaries on the

(11:37):
street particular. Wait a minute,Wait a minute, hold them one second.
What was that again? Shocked?Okay, you live in Los Angeles,
you live in the San Fernando Valley, and shock is what you feel
when somebody tries to break in yourhouse. Shock I am. I'm on
the other I'm of the other mindset. I'm I God. Finally, finally

(12:01):
I get a piece of the action. Finally I'm involved. I knew it
was going to happen. I didn'tknow it was going to be today,
but I knew it's gonna happen, and I think we all feel that way.
I don't think anybody is shocked whensomebody breaks into your home anymore.
I think you wake up in themorning, the alarm's on, dog sleeping,

(12:22):
kids are sleeping, nobody broke in. Shocked. I think you're shocked
when nobody breaks in you're home, not when somebody does shocked. I was
shocked. I don't remember having anyburglaries on the street. Okay, well
they're coming. They're coming. Gottarearrange your shock meter. You gotta do

(12:43):
it because they're coming. Particularly Juliansays he has forty cameras in the neighborhood,
which he monitors from the trailer outsidehis home. Okay, here's the
lunatic again. Lunatic crazy until hesaves the neighborhood and all of a sudden
becomes a superman. Forty cameras inthe neighborhood. He has forty cameras in

(13:05):
the neighborhood and lives and sleeps inhis camper outside on the street to deter
this kind of crap, and hehit last night he hit, which he
monitors from the trailer outside his home. He says they were targeting his neighbor's
open garage with Tesla's, a Porscheand scooters. Yeah, you got to
keep that garage door closed. Yougot a couple of Tesla's and a Porsche.

(13:26):
That means you got dough got tokeep a garage door closed so people
out and see how much money yougot. Brett now grateful to Julian.
You know, maybe one of thereasons why and again I knock on wood,
why my house hasn't been broken intoyet, is because outside is an
eighteen year old Lincoln Navigator worth twentyeight hundred dollars. It's a stud,

(13:54):
super stud. Chasing these guys downwas really cool, but it's it's a
sign of the times. It's scaryout here. The home is worth three
point five million dollars. No onewas hurt. Other neighbors concerned and bothered
by a string of burglaries in thevalley. Yeah, it really does,
it really does. You know, everyone has the cameras, the dogs,
the black neighborhood watch. In Julyalone, there have been at least nine

(14:20):
burglaries in the valley, three inWoodland Hills six in Encinow thieves taking designer
bags and jewelry. LAPD patrolled onhorseback through into a boulevard and surrounding streets
yesterday to help ease concerns, andwe spoke with another home owner off camera
who says their house was also brokeninto a few years ago. But Brett,
who lives at the home that wastargeted yesterday, says he was grateful

(14:41):
he's not the next burglary victim.Yeah, they're coming, They are coming.
LAPD is trying to shut that down, but takes a lot of action,
a lot of guys, a lotof goals an LAPD to shut that
down, shut her down. AreWe're going to be at restaurant in brew
House tomorrow. I think I mentionedthat from four to seven pm. Bellio

(15:05):
is gonna be there, Steve Gregory'scoming down, Angel Martinez, Fritz Coleman,
Fritz is cool. He's gonna bethere Malibu Day in from the old
old school, old station Mallible MalibuDay and Dan Finder will be there excited
to see that guy as well.So come on down. It's gonna be

(15:26):
a huge party. And I'm andyou're just gonna enjoy it. You know
you're gonna love it, So we'llsee you there. Hot Dog. Everybody
hot Dog. You're listening to TimConway Junior on Demyan from KFI AM six
forty hot Dog, and people arewondering why I'm saying hot dog. We

(15:46):
got a voicemail yesterday from a ladywho said, how come he always says
hot dog? And then I gotan email from a guy who said,
his grandmother or his mother. Ican't figure out who it is, but

(16:06):
his grandmother and mother she also hearshot dog. And he said she's eighty
nine. She loves the show, but she is now incorporated that in her
daily life she goes out with friendsand goes hot dog. And so he
said, she's eighty nine, she'snot gonna be around forever. Would you

(16:26):
mind changing it to hot dog?I said no, I don't mind.
So ding Dong's been replaced. Forthe senior citizens out there who hear hot
dog. We hear you, andwe're changing it hot dog. I like
it better. I might open upsome advertisers too. All right, we'll
get a Hoffee thing going or whatever. Orm Oscar Meyer Wiener Lover. That

(16:56):
was from the office a postcard herefrom a woman named Phyllis, and she
wrote me, and there's a pictureof a turtle. I'm like a turtle.
I want to thank you for sendingme a video on my eightieth birthday,
December fourteenth, twenty twenty three.I babe, Yeah, faithful KFI

(17:21):
fan. So would you say,Bellio, what you're saying? Always late,
better late than ever? That wasvery nice of her, right,
yeah it was. I mean mostpeople don't take the time to write exactly
right, fill out the card, put a stamp on it, and take
it down to the post office ora mailbox. So I like that.

(17:42):
Lady. Phyllis is her name.I like that name too. It's a
great name. Phyllis hot dog withher. All right, let's talk about
Deli meats. I made myself asandwich the other night and I finished it.
It was the cracked pepper bar'shead meatthat I bought at the store,

(18:03):
And about twenty seconds after I finishedthe last bite, I opened up my
cell phone to see a Deli meatrecall and I said, oh, well,
there's no chance that it was justthe meat that I ate on a
bagel. I just had boar's headmeat on a bagel. There's no chance

(18:25):
that that meat could have been recalled. This morning, Boarshead recalling an additional
seven million pounds of Deli meat asfederal authorities investigate a deadly outbreak of listeria
food poisoning seven million pounds I ateit. The new recall includes seventy one
products under the Boar's Head and OldCountry brands. Sorry a week or two

(18:49):
ago on the nose, but Ithought it was all done. Wait a
minute, It's been out for aweek or two and I'm still buying the
meat. It follows an earlier recallof more than two hundred pounds of sliced
Deli poultry and meat, including liverwurst, ham, salami, baloney, and
other products made at the company's Virginiaplant. I don't know what's going on.
I have a theory. Maybe I'llask doctor Ray. I don't know

(19:11):
what's going on, but lysteria isexploding. And I got a theory.
Then we all got vaxed, doublevaxed, boosted for COVID, and lysteria
thrives off of the COVID waist, and I think that's what's going on.

(19:33):
I think that one of the downfallsof everyone getting boosted for COVID that it
doesn't wipe out listeria grocery chains stoppingChop closed all of its stored delis yesterday
for a deep clean. Oh no, that sounds like lossons. If you
grow up in the Midwest and yourparents, your grandparents went to Lassons,
that's what that little deli sounds like. Lossons. The recalls are tied to

(20:00):
an ongoing outbreak of lasteria poisoning that'skilled two people and sick and nearly three
dozen people in thirteen states. Listeriatypically causes fever, muscle aches, and
tiredness and effects and estimated sixteen hundredpeople yearly. And do you hear what
it effects? Muscle aches, muscleakes. Here's what it is. Fever,
muscle achs, entiredness, and tiredness. I got all three, good

(20:22):
morning, good afternoon, and goodnight effects and estimated sixteen hundred people yearly.
An average of about two hundred andsixty people die from the infection yearly.
It is especially dangerous for people oversixty five, those with weakened immune
systems, and pregnant women. Twoout of three that's the reason pregnant women
aren't supposed to eat delimeat. Symptomscan occur really quick But I didn't know

(20:44):
that, Belly, are you awareof that? Or Leila, were you
aware of that? No, neverheard that, age, I've never heard
that my life. You never heardit. I've heard about, you know,
like not eating sushi, right,Yeah, I get that, I
get that, but not delimas.I have never ever in my life heard
this before. That's re Pregnant womenaren't supposed to eat delimeats, and she
rattles it off like it's an oldrule of thumb that she's heard for generation

(21:04):
after generation. I've never I've neverhad a baby, though, so I
don't really know. Okay, hada baby. It's a boy. I
have never had a baby either. But I have never heard this, never
ever heard it once. That's thereason pregnant women aren't supposed to eat delimeats.
Symptoms can occur really quickly. Orthis might surprise a lot of you.

(21:25):
Up to ten weeks, Yeah youcan ten weeks after that sandwich.
You can blow your shorts up aftereating contaminated after Yes, up to ten
weeks, so you may not evencorrelate the two. If you get sick
ten weeks later. It could befrom that. It is really serious,
absolutely millions of Yeah, how serious, and it's really serious, really serious.

(21:45):
That's like a real news person, really serious, really absolutely millions of
it's kind of serious. There's radicallyserious. There's ooh, very serious.
Then there's really serious, really absolutelymillions of pounds. I stopped. I
guess, I don't know. Theysay either throw it out or take it
back to the grocery store and geta refund. I'm going back to the

(22:07):
grocery store with my meat thing dong. All right. We have this promo

BJ's tomorrow for the big remote fourto seven pm. We will see you
down there. Get there early andget a seat. A lot of people
will be down there. That'll bea great day over the weekend. Evidently
I've been gambling on TVG a lot, because they offered me for the first

(23:44):
time ever, and I remember themdoing this before. They offered me a
free twenty dollars bet. I couldbet on any horse, win place,
or show trifecta exact daily double whatever. If I made a twenty dollars bet.
At the twenty dollars bet is free, I get to make a free
twenty dollars bet. So I dida little handicapping and I was betting a

(24:07):
Midwestern track and I got to lookback to see what it was because I
was betting a few tracks. Ithink it was either Keenland, Thistledown,
might have been Northfield, one ofthose Midwestern tracks. And I saw a
horse going off at ten to one, and because there was a free bet,
I put a couple bucks on it, twenty dollars to win, which
is a little more than I normallylike to do. So flag is up.

(24:30):
There they go, and evidently thehorse that I bet on big fan
of the Olympics, because it cameout of the gate and did a cartwheel.
Oh no, that was a wrapon that bet. Horse made it.
Horse was okay. Jockey flew off, did a cartwheel, a couple
of summersaults, and that was it. They okay, I was okay,

(24:56):
Yeah, I mean I made notyou the other bets what not? You?
Oh? The jockey and the horse? Yes, Oh, I don't
know. I think they're fine.I thought you meant me. Was I
okay, I know you're not.I made it all right. Let's do
this real quick and Laila, stephuj Kiki, Angel and Belliol the top

(26:52):

that right? Oh? My goodness? Wheel drivers and sewer roof they're on
the road. Watch out those two, do not care. Okay, but
Prius uh, Prius not on thelist. No Toyotas are on the list.
If you could remember that, somethingwith ultimate I not on the list.

(27:18):
No Nissans on the list. Howabout a Ford charger? Okay,

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
