You're listening to KFI AM six fortywake Up Call with me Amy King on
demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI handKOST HD two, Los Angeles, Orange
County. It's time for your morningwake up call. Here's Amy King.
(00:29):
Good morning, Happy home Day.It's five o'clock on your wake up call
for Wednesday, January tenth. I'mAmy King. Thanks for getting your day
started today. I was watching thenews. Everybody's freaking out because of the
weather kind of across the US.But there have been tornadoes, snow,
(00:54):
rain, wind. But as theas the people are sitting there doing their
stand ups, the report going there'ssnow in Iowa. I'm like, it's
January. Of course there's snow inIowa. And the rain and the wind.
It's a normal thing. The tornado'snot so good. Some tornadoes hit
down in the South, I thinkin the Panhandle of Florida. God,
(01:17):
they do a lot of damage. And we've got to speaking of damage,
we could have some damage coming. We got some strong, strong, gusty
winds coming thirty to forty miles anhour expected to blow today, gusting sixty
to seventy miles per hour. Sowhat the umbrella is down. Put away
the pool furniture, Otherwise it couldbe gone. Here's what's ahead on wake
(01:38):
up call. The LA County DistrictAttorney's Office has decided not to file fel
any domestic violence charges against former Dodgerspitcher Julio Urias. He's accused of getting
into a violent confrontation with a womanbelieved to be his wife outside an LAFC
soccer match in September. The casehas been sent to the La City Attorney's
Office, which now consider misdemeanor charges. Nearly seven hundred flights have been canceled
(02:04):
already today as storms batter the US. We're just talking about that. At
least four people have been killed assevere thunderstorms, tornadoes, damaging winds,
and baseball sized hail move across theUS. Ever seen baseball sized hail.
It's the size of a baseball,crazy and it's like they're repelting you.
I've seen people just running for cover. The biggest I've ever seen is about
(02:28):
probably pingpong size, but it stillhurts. A Napa Valley winery has turned
to AI with its robot samlier calledRobovino. Mario Kennetti Winery owner Maria Resnicosa
says the winery has seen the thirtypercent increase in foot traffic since robo Vino
(02:50):
started assisting customers with tastings. Criticssay there's no way a robot can replicate
a human's expertise with wine, andsays it is just a passing fact.
We shall see at six o fiveits handle on the news. The World
Economic Forum says we're at risk ofa global catastrophe within the next ten years.
Not a great way to start today. Bill's going to dig into that.
Let's get started with some of thestories coming out of the KFI twenty
(03:13):
four hour newsroom. Boeing's CEO hasused the word mistake when talking about the
Alaska Airlines flight that had to makean emergency landing after a door plug blew
out. Dave Calhoun says they're goingto approach the situation with complete transparency every
step of the way. Gonna workwith the NTSB, who is investigating the
(03:34):
accident itsself, to find out whatthe leak cause is. Calhoun says all
seven thirty seven Max nine planes withdoor plugs are grounded until the FAA inspects
them. The flight from Portland toOntario on Friday, was carrying one hundred
and seventy seven people when part ofthe plane detached. Nobody was killed and
nobody was seriously hurt. Thieves inCalifornia could soon pay a higher price for
(03:58):
retail theft only mean James Ramos hasintroduced a bill that would have thieves with
at least two prior theft convictions facingup to three years in jail for retail
theft. California law currently does notassess prior convictions when classifying theft of up
to nine hundred and fifty dollars asa misdemeanor. The bill would need to
be approved by the legislature, governor, and then voters to become law.
Ramo says shoplifting and smash and grabsare endangering customers and store employees. Blake
(04:24):
Trolly k if I News. Twomen have been charged with sexual assault in
separate cases out of Culver City andLong Beach, Ella County. DA George
Gascone says one man broke into ahome in Culver City last month and allegedly
raped a twelve year old girl whileher parents were in the house. Because
the victim was told that there wasa man with a gun outside and that
her family would be killed if shereported. The family was unaware of what
(04:47):
was going on. Under the victimsletter, the second man allegedly impersonated a
police officer in Long Beach and sexuallyassaulted a woman in his car in late
December. Relise say both men havecriminal histories and there are likely other victims.
I'm super excited about this one.It should always be not that one.
Ok Okay, I am super excitedabout this one, as it should
(05:10):
always be the foundlings of the future. This is the way, This is
the way, This is the way. Here's something that's on the way.
A new Star Wars movie, TheMandalorian and Grogu, will be the first
big screen film in the Star Warsuniverse since twenty nineteens The Rise of Skywalker.
Jon Favreau, who created the Mandalorianseries for Disney Plus, is set
(05:34):
to direct the movie. Production isset to start later this year. Can't
wait Love the Mandalorian. Let's saygood morning now to ABC's White House correspondent
Karen Travers. Karen, I thinkwhat we can say is what we have
here is a failure to communicate.Secretary. Yeah, and so many questions.
(05:56):
Yeah, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austinhas a serious health issue, and
no one, including the White Houseknew about it until yesterday. Well,
they knew about it before, butwe didn't even know what it was until
yesterday. So tell us what itis and why we're just finding out now.
Yeah, the same Secretary of Rydustinhas prostate cancer, and his recent
hospitalization, which was kept sacred fordays, we now know is due to
(06:18):
a urinary tracts infection and intestinal complicationfollowing what his doctors called a minimally invasive
surgery to treat and cure his cancer. He was initially went into the hospital
back in December. He was diagnosedin early December with prostate cancer. He
underwent general anesthesia for a procedure onDecember twenty second, and recovered uneventfually,
(06:40):
according to his doctors. He returnedhome the next morning, but then on
January first, he was readmitted tothe hospital because of complications nausea and pain
in his stomach, hip, andleg, and the doctors say that that
revealed a urinary tract infection. Thenext day, January second, further evaluation
revealed abdominal fluid collections and then hewas treated with a non surgical drain placement,
(07:02):
so he had still hospitalized, andthe White House, as we now
know, didn't know until last Thursdaythat he was in the hospital, So
it took several days after he hadgone into the complications for the White House
to be informed. We learned yesterdaythat they didn't know until yesterday, five
days later, that he was beingtreated for prostate cancer. So five days
(07:25):
went by from the time the Presidentwas informed Wood Austin was in the hospital
before he was told that his Defensesecretary has prostate cancer. A lot of
questions at the White House yesterday aboutthe process here the timeline of who was
informed and how. John Kirby saidbluntly that this was not optimal. As
he put it, this is notthe way it's supposed to happen. The
(07:46):
President understands that, okay, So, like you said, not optimal.
There are so many things that wentwrong here. So going all the way
back to the first surgery when hewas put up in general anesthesia, isn't
there something that he should have totell somebody? I know, like,
if the president goes under anesthesia,he has to sign over power to the
(08:07):
Vice President and Lloyd Austin is inthe line of succession, yes, yes,
and even just the chain of commandof delegating that down to the next
person and deputy at the Pentagon.Should something happen, you know, if
you are called to the situation roomwhile you are under general anesthesia, should
there be a tack here. There'sso many scenarios of if you know,
(08:28):
the phone rings, then you areneeded, but the White House doesn't know
that you are getting a procedure doneit while to read and you are incapacitated
at that point because you are undergeneral anesthesia. There are a lot of
problems there. And you know,we had all those questions yesterday, the
Pentagon Press Corps asking all those questionsyesterday. They are not getting into,
(08:48):
you know, the answers of howit will be fixed yet because they say
there is a review underway. ThePentagon is going over its procedure and process
to make sure to see how thiscould have happened and to prevent it from
happening again. The White House hasnow ordered a review of Cabinet protocols for
delegating authority. So if there isany situation where an agency or department anticipates
(09:13):
delegating authority because a Cabinet secretary isunable to do their duties. The White
House needs to know about that. And you know, the question I think
yesterday was like, but shouldn't havealready have been in place? And would
the something violated in this process?Like did they do something that violated what
was already on paper? The WhiteHouse would not say that yesterday. You
(09:33):
know, the question I asked, which was just on a basic human level,
is when the President was told lastThursday afternoon that Wood Austin was in
the hospital, didn't he ask why? And did the Pentagon not tell the
White House why? Because how dothey not know why until Tuesday? Exactly?
There's just, like you said, there's just so many things that went
wrong with this, and hopefully they'llget it straightened out, because I mean,
(09:56):
luckily nothing super serious happened, andI'm so happy to hear that he's
expected to make a full recovery andall of that. But wow, that
just puts us in a bad place. Yeah, all right, Karen Travers,
thank you so much for the information, and you keep asking those questions.
We'd love to see it with youcalm resotely all right, take care
(10:16):
a great day, thanks too.Let's get back to some of the stories
coming out of the KFI twenty fourhour news room. A high surf advisory
has been issued for La County beaches, the Malibu Coast, and Catalina and
Santa Barbara Islands. Officials say wavesup to nine feet are possible. They
say dangerous rip currents and some minorcoastal flooding also likely. They've warned people
to stay out of the water. The advisory is in effect from three to
(10:39):
day until noon tomorrow. Too coldto be in the water anyway. A
winter storm is moving into northern California. It's expected to pack a lot of
snow, so we're expecting major travelimpacts, delays, chain controls, and
even potentially some road closures just givenhow heavy those snow rates are expected to
be. Meteorologist Craig Shoemaker says tento fourteen inches of snow are possible in
(11:01):
cities like Truckee. In South LakeTahoe, conditions should improve on Thursday.
The system is a quick moover andit should dry out Thursday, but they'll
have there'll be a lot of snowremoval that'll be needed after the storm.
Freezing cold temperatures are expected to settlein in northern California you see Irvine.
Researchers say hiring more staff is notenough to overcome a continuing quality of care
(11:22):
disparity for dementia patients in nursing homes. The study called for specialized training for
staff to be prepared for the wideranging needs of dementia and Alzheimer's patients,
who make up almost half of nursinghomes. Professor Dana Muchemel says high staff
turnover is also an issue. Ifevery day you have a different staff person
coming into your womb for a personwith dementia, it's very difficult to deal
(11:43):
with this and they tend to getagitated. They might be behavioral problems.
She says, more staff is important, but so always responding to a patient
who can't communicate well, or bathe, dress, or eat on their own.
In Orange County, Corbin Carson kif I need a couple hundred illegal
immigrants per day have been sleeping atthe San Diego airport. If San Diego
tries to find places for them tostay, the migrants are staying two to
(12:05):
three days at a time and aregetting food and medical attention from a couple
nonprofit groups. Seventy thousand migrants havebeen dropped off in San Diego since the
current surge started in September. Aboutthree thousand have arrived just this week.
McDonald's is bringing back the double BigMac. That's four all beef patties,
not two special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and assesame
(12:28):
seed button. The Double Big Macwas first introduced in twenty twenty. It'll
return in two weeks. The priceof the burger will vary based on individual
restaurants. Four all beef patties, that's crazy. Tonight, the Clippers take
on the Toronto Raptors at Crypto dotcom, with tip off at seven thirty
on your home of Clippers Baseball notbaseball. Maybe I'm wishful thinking Clippers basketball.
(12:54):
It's at am five seventy LA Sports, which is also the home to
Dodger's Baseball. God to you byyour Southern California Toyota dealers. We make
it easy. Dangerous, potentially damagingwinds are expected to blow into southern California
today and tomorrow. A high windwarning will it be in effect from four
this afternoon until noon tomorrow, thirtyto forty mile per hour winds with gus
(13:16):
sixty to seventy miles per hour areexpected. The Santa Clarita Valley could see
gusts isolated gus up to about eightymiles per hour. Yikes. House Republicans
are getting ready to hold the president'sson Hunter in contempt of Congress for defying
a subpoena to appear for a closeddoor deposition. The committees leading the impeachment
inquiry into President biden Or scheduled tovote today on bringing the contempt resolution for
(13:39):
a full House vote. Plans tosend astronauts to the Moon have been delayed.
NASA announced yesterday that the Artemis twomission with a crew on board,
which is set for November, isbeing pushed back to September of twenty twenty
five. Then Artemis three, themission to have astronauts walk on the Moon,
has been pushed back to September oftwenty twenty five. Six at six
(14:01):
oh five, it's handle on thenews. California's state controller must really hate
people and make a lot of money. She wants to go after the Dodgers
New Stars show. Hey Otani we'lltake a look at that. Right now,
let's say good morning to the hostof Rich on Tech on KFI and
KTLA's tech reporter Rich DeMuro coming tous from Sin City and CEES, and
good morning to you, Amy.I think most of Sin City is still
(14:22):
asleep at this hour, but notyou. Not you, because you're excited
because it's Tech Central in Las Vegasright now for CEES. That's right,
this is CS twenty twenty four.It is back in a big way.
One hundred and thirty thousand people fromover forty countries are expected to be here
this week, and it shows theshow floor is pact. There's a lot
(14:46):
of people and a lot of stuffto see. Okay, so Rich you
said one hundred and thirty thousand peopleare they are there just like people like
me there? Or is it allpeople like you, like tech people,
tech reporters, that kind of thing. Well, there's a whole different you
know, they cross the whole spectrum. So you've got journalists, then you've
(15:07):
got companies that are trying to showoff their stuff to both journalists but also
investors, but also people like BestBuy that come in and say, oh,
that's a cool accessory. Let mestock it in my store. So
there's a whole range of people. It is not open to the public,
so you can't just come here.Although I keep pressing cees to say,
hey, you can make gobs moremoney by just opening up one day of
(15:28):
this show to the public, lettingthem in charging a ticket price, But
so far they have not done that, and they don't really need to because
there's just so many people in thistech industry from around the world that come
here to meet, greet, andof course there's lots of parties and events
and it's just a whole tech circushere. Oh yeah, huge parties.
I've been to CES before and yeah, it's like comic Con for tech people.
(15:50):
Yeah, and it's fun. It'syou know, you've got a whole
bunch of like minded people in oneplace that all meet once a year.
So not only do you get tosee all your friends, but you get
to meet the people that you talkabout. So all these companies like cover
throughout the year, you actually getto meet with the people behind those companies
if you hadn't seen them in personbefore. So u Plus you get to
see new stuff that's going to comeout over the scope of the next year,
(16:11):
potentially never sometimes with a lot ofthis conceptual stuff. But no matter
what, you get to see thetrends. You get to see what's happening,
and I always have a pretty goodtime. I would imagine that you
do. Now, one company that'snot actually there is getting some of the
biggest buzzz I know. Isn't thiswild? Leave it to Apple to release
the press release on the first dayof CEES, saying, hey, by
(16:33):
the way, Apple Vision pro ournew reality headset is going to launch in
the US on February second. Threeorders are going to open. I think
this is next Friday, January nineteenth. This is their thirty five hundred dollars
headset. It's going to cost anextra one hundred dollars to one hundred and
fifty dollars if you need prescription glasses. But it's like having a four K
TV on each I and yes,I've had this thing on my head.
(16:57):
It is incredible. Thirty five hundreddollars. It's going to be a tough
sell for the average person, butthis probably will change the industry once again
towards more augmented reality and virtual reality. Okay, so you said you've had
the thing on your head, andit's spectacular. So what does it look
like? I mean, is itdoes it look like real or does it
look animated like some other VR setsor give us give us a little let's
(17:19):
put it this way. Apple trickedme. So they put this thing on
my head, and I thought itwas clear glass because I just saw the
room that I was sitting in.And then all of a sudden, it
started writing three D words in themiddle of the living room that they were
just floating in mid air, andI said, oh, that's what you
just did. So the cameras arethat clear where I literally thought I was
(17:41):
just sitting in the same room Iwas in, but it was actually being
projected onto my eyes through cameras onthe front of this thing. It's actually
there's no see through lens on thiseven though it looks like you can see
the person's eyes that are inside ofit, it's completely closed off. And
you know, they've got lots ofcameras, lots of my for phones on
this thing, lots of sensors useyour hands to control it, which is
(18:03):
different from a lot of the otherones. It's done really well. Again,
it's very expensive, but this isjust the beginning. Hopefully they can
figure out a way to get thedevelopers on board, get the apps that
we want to do, get theentertainment, and cheaper versions will follow.
Okay, yeah, I just I'veput VR sets on and they are pretty
cool, like you play a littlegame. We went to the Some Dinos
(18:26):
Alive exhibit and we were throwing bonesto velociraptors and I was like, this
is so cool. I would imaginethat that is very very rudimentary compared to
what you're seeing now. It's abouttwenty five thousand times that. So for
this one, this demo, theyhad a dinosaur come out of the wall
that I was able to get upout of my seat, step up and
(18:48):
pet the dinosaur. Now, obviouslyI couldn't feel it, but it was
that real where it felt like itwas right there in front of me coming
out of the wall. I mean, it's really quite incredible. I assume
that you'll be able to test theseout in this store, you know,
but they are going to be inall the Apple stores at least to purchase.
I assume they're going to have somesort of demo, and I think
there's going to be a pretty longline for that. Yeah, and when
are they going to be available? So February second, they are launching in
(19:12):
the stores. People can order themsite on scene January nineteenth. Okay,
so let's talk about some of theother really cool things you've seen as you've
perused the conference floor. Yeah.So one thing that's just getting you know,
this is kind of like epitomizes cees. You don't really need it,
but it's here. It's one hundredand thirty seven inch unfolding TV. What
(19:34):
this is from a company named cSeed. I don't know what this is
all about, but basically it's agiant TV. You put it in your
house and they said, you know, this is for like super super ultra
rich people that have like a penthousethat have windows that they don't want to
block with the TV and so itfolds up so you get less coverage there.
(19:56):
And is it like the it's onehundred Is it like the foldable phone
where the screen goes is you knowno, er, no, not really
because this this is actually it lookslike four separate screens that just could sort
of accordion fold inwards. It happensin ninety seconds. It's one hundred and
fifty thousand dollars and is uh youknow, yeah, this is not something
(20:18):
we're buying anytime soon. But again, it's just one of those things that's
on my Instagram atverage on tech. You just have to see it and say,
Okay, now I know that existsin our world. Okay, what
else, let's see what else didI see? Oh? This was actually
really cool. You know this ideaof like home health checkups doing all this
stuff that you know, you goto the doctor, they take two readings
and you're like, oh, Ihave to drive all the way over here
(20:40):
for that. Yeah. So we'regetting more into telehealth and Whippings has this
new thing called Demo, which feelslike a very futuristic device. It's a
four and one device that combines athermometer, heart reading so ECG, blood
oxygen readings, and a stethoscope. So the idea here is it can not
(21:00):
only measure all this stuff temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen, your lung
and heart sounds, but you cansave all this stuff to the app and
if you do, like a telehealthappointment with your doctor, you can say
all right, now put the doethoscopehere or here or here or here and
I can see the readings from thatover the internet. I mean, it's
pretty cool. It's gonna be twohundred and fifty dollars. Obviously, if
(21:21):
you have some sort of chronic illnessor asthma or something where you're constantly taking
these types of readings, this isa really useful device and could be really
fun for hypochondriacs too. Yeah, you know all this stuff. Just just
google, just google anything, andyou're gonna die. That's the main thing.
You know that, all right? And then away from CES, you
(21:41):
went and saw the sphere and Iwould love to hear about that, because
it just every time I see it, I'm just amazed. Looking at it
from the outside. Yes, we'veall seen the outside. It's the world's
largest spherical structure, five hundred andsixteen feet wide, three hundred and sixty
six feet tall, five hundred andeighty thousand little led bulbs on the outside
(22:03):
that they program into all kinds offund images and videos. But when you're
inside sixteen by sixteen k screen,it is it's a dome kind of effect
and it is just wild. Letme put it this way. The video
that they have to shoot there liketo shoot the movies for this thing.
Your iPhone could record four point sevenseconds of that, so it is very
(22:27):
high quality. It's quite impressive. Now, I didn't get to watch an
actual movie on it yesterday. I'mdoing that later this week. But the
entire experience, I can tell youif you come to Vegas, you have
to do it because it starts inthe lobby, you talk to robots and
it just continues. It's quite quiteincredible. Okay, Well, Rich,
I'm gonna let you loose because Ithink you got a lot more exploring to
(22:48):
do, and then you can giveus the latest. And I want to
find out next week from you whatyour favorite thing was that you found at
CES. I will come up withthe list. Hey, great, thank
you so much. Of course, you can watch Rich on KTLA all the
time. You can also hear himweekends here on KFI. It's Rich on
(23:10):
Tech. Thanks so much. Rich, Thanks Amy. Have a great day,
all right you too. Let's getback to some of the stories coming
out of the KFI twenty four hournewsroom. People who live in Orange County
are trying to stop the Irvine Companyfrom building hundreds of homes in a wildlife
corridor. The Irvine Company is planningto build more than eleven hundred homes on
four hundred acres of land in thecity of Orange, where many different animals
(23:30):
live. Joel Robinson, with aNo Orange Heights campaign, says the project
would prevent the animals from using IrvinePark and Peters Canyon, so it would
block their access or completely eradicate theirability to find food, shelter, and
all of that. Robinson says thelocation of the property would also put people
in a hotspot for potential wildfires. The Irvine company says the project is the
(23:52):
product of a collaboration with the community. Chris Sadler KFI News, former UN
Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Florida GovernorRonda Santis are getting ready for a one
on one Republican presidential debate in Iowa. The Iowa Republican Caucus is next week.
Former President Trump will not be attonight's debate. He'll be at a
Fox News Channel town hall at thesame time. Also in Des Moines,
(24:17):
the Securities and Exchange Commission says itsverified x account has been hacked. The
sec account posted a tweet yesterday thatsaid the regulator had approved a bitcoin exchange
trade fund that caused the cryptocurrency's valueto spike briefly. It dropped back down
when the SEC chairman posted a tweetclarifying the account had been compromised. Nearly
(24:41):
seven hundred flights have already been canceledtoday as deadly storms batter the US.
At least four people have been killedas severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, damaging winds,
and baseball sized hail move across theUS, and not great news for
people across much of the US becauseanother storm system is about to move through.
A judge in l Las Vegas hasset bail at seven hundred and fifty
(25:02):
thousand dollars for the man charged inthe nineteen ninety six murder of rapper Tupac
Shakur. Dwayne Davis's attorney argued there'sno evidence to suggest his client is a
flight risk and asked him to bereleased on his own recognissance. Prosecutors say
Davis is a danger to the public. Walmart is turning to artificial intelligence to
help online shoppers. The retailer hasunveiled two new AI powered search tools.
(25:26):
The unveiling happen at CES in LasVegas. The tools are designed to help
shoppers find products quicker and automate theprocess of reordering frequently purchased items. It's
available to iOS users now and willbe available on Android later this year.
At six o five. It ishandled on the news, Republicans continue to
fight against expanding the IRS by cuttingsome of the new funding for the IRS
(25:48):
in a new budget deal. Aami'son it, Damie's on this, as
on it, Damie's on it.What am I on? I'm on lots
and lots of streaming shows. There'sso much content out there, It's like,
how do you know what to watch? And a lot of times I
(26:08):
take recommendations from friends or co workers, and so that's what I'm hoping to
do for you, is give youmy recommendation and some of the good things
and maybe some of the things thatyou just might want to pass up on
because there's a lot out there.So today I'm on Opposites. We're going
to look at two different shows, one Leave the World Behind and two Christopher
(26:30):
Robin. I know they sound likeopposites right out of the get go,
and they are. So I wasdoing my traditional diving down a rabbit hole,
and when I start watching things, then that leads me to other things
as I'm binging shows over the weekend, and we had talked to Jason Nathanson
about Leave the World Behind, andso I wanted to take a look at
(26:51):
it because he didn't really give alot of details about it, which to
me is usually a good thing becauseyou know, you don't want to give
away the whole plot. But Iwill tell you that the movies on Netflix.
It starts Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawk, Mahersha Ali, and Kevin Bacon's
in a part of it, SoI'm like, okay, star studed cast,
isn't this great? And Julia Robertsand her family live in New York
(27:11):
City and within the first five minutesthey establish that it's really crappy in the
city. They want to get awayfrom it all, and so Julia Roberts's
character rents an airbnb for her andher husband and her family for the weekend
so they can have this getaway. And it all starts out great, but
very quickly turns very creepy. Themovie itself doesn't move fast. It's a
(27:36):
very slow moving, non action packedmovie, but a lot of little creepy
things start happening, like computers startworking and cell service isn't working, and
then the Internet goes down and theTVs aren't working, and then animals start
acting strange and this all happens prettyearly on, and you're like, what
is going on? Is it cyberattack? Is it an em? I
(28:00):
mean, like what is going on? And so you kind of through the
movie or watching to see what's goingon. And as the family settles in,
a father and daughter who claimed thatthey own the home that the Julia
Robertson her family are renting show upand then that unfolds the whole different set
of circumstances and the movie feels likeget Out. You remember that movie,
(28:25):
really creepy movie didn't really necessarily movethat fast, but you just had this
foreboding sense of negati negativism. Ithad that same vibe. And what I
hated about it is there's no hope, there's no redemption. The characters aren't
really likable. And I love JuliaRoberts. She does a good job playing
an unlikable character, and the moviekind of leaves you feeling empty and unsettled.
(28:48):
And maybe that's the intention of it, but I mean, so it
was interesting to watch, probably notgoing to go down on my list of
favorites, and if you want tofeel good about the world, this is
not the movie to watch. Onthe flips. There's Christopher Robin stirring Ewan
McGregor and I don't know how inthe world I miss that. So it's
a live action when of Disney's liveactions, but it doesn't follow a storyline
(29:11):
of like Little Mermaid follows the animatedstoryline pretty closely. This is Ewan McGregor
as Christopher Robin, and he's allgrown up. He's left Pooh behind and
the one hundred acre would so it'sa rather slow paced movie, but it's
kind of like Hook, Like ChristopherRobbin has grown up and remember when Peter
Pan had grown up and forgotten nevernever Land and all that stuff. But
(29:36):
Christopher Robin gets reinduced to his childreintroduced to his childhood friend Winnie the Pooh.
And then there's also e Or andPiglet, and they've done the animation
like remember Ted the movie with thestuffed animal with the really foul mouth.
Well it's like that, except youknow, it's winning the poos, So
he's adorable and cute and huggable andthe animation or however, they do that
(29:59):
is it's so amazing that I'm justtransfixed with it the whole movie and thinking,
Oh, with AI, they're goingto have those kind of animals like
that come to life in the nextfive years. But anyway, the story
is very sweet, the message ishopeful. Ewan McGregor of course has some
sort of a revelation and remembers whatit was like to be a kid when
he was Christopher Robin the child inthe Hundred Acre Wood. Like I said,
(30:23):
the animation is spectacular, and ofcourse his Tigger in it, and
Tigger is my absolute favorite, andhe is so cute in this movie.
So you know, if you wantto curl up and watch a happy and
a feel good movie, that's goingto make you smile just a little bit.
Christopher Robin. So those are theopposites for Amy's on it this week.
Let's get back to some of thestories coming out of the KFI twenty
(30:44):
four hour newsroom. La County DA'soffice has declined to file felony charges against
Dodger's pitcher Julio Urias for his arreston suspicion of domestic violence. Orius was
placed on administratively eve in September afterhe allegedly got into a fight with his
wife outside BMO Stadium and pushed heragainst defence, pulled her by the hair
or shoulders. He hasn't been withthe Dodgers since. His case will now
(31:06):
go to the City Attorney's office forpossible misdemeanor charges. The La County DA
had said that the evidence just didn'twarrant charging him with a felony. Investigators
in Riverside are trying to identify thelast of eight women murdered thirty one years
ago by the so called Happy FaceKiller. The tragedy of it all,
not knowing if possibly she was amom. Riverside County Sheriff's investigator Amy Contrera
(31:29):
says Keith Jesperson picked up the womannear Victorville, not knowing why she was
there, why she was hitch hiking. Riverside County DA Mike Kestron says the
woman's about twenty to thirty years old, with shaggy blonde hair, about five
foot six, one hundred and fortyfive pounds, and had two small dots
tattooed on her right thumb. Inevery case murder case cold cases, we
never stopped just percent is serving multiplelife sentences. Corbin Carson kf I News.
(31:52):
A woman at Massachusetts accused of tryingto poison her husband has denied any
wrongdoing. Did not try to poisonmy husband, Roxanne du Set says her
husband probably just had a stroke. They have no sayings at the hospital.
Everything was negative. Well, thereport was negative. Paul Ducet was only
tested for opioids, cocaine, andalcohol. Police say they found texts between
(32:15):
Roxanne and someone she thought was soapopera star thorsten Ka talking about collecting life
insurance. They say one text saidshe was making soup with a special potion.
The second Wednesday of January is NationalTake the Stairs Day. The American
Lung Association says the walking holiday shouldencourage folks to skip the elevator while staying
(32:37):
fit. Health officials say stair climbingsupports lung health, blood circulation, and
prevents the risk of stroke. Alwaysa good idea to take the stairs.
Try to do it whenever I canskip that elevator. I want to tell
you about something. I don't knowif you've been to a museum recently,
but I just recently started going tomuseums around LA. One of my favorites
(32:58):
is the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, and right now LA museums are doing
free museum days for parts of anda couple of them have already passed,
like at Norton Simon that was lastweekend, but there's free admission to museums
around LA this month. The HolocaustMuseum is free this weekend, next weekend
(33:21):
and the weekend after that. TheMuseum of Latin America, or of Latin
American Art rather is free this weekend, next weekend and the weekend after that,
so the last three weekends of theyear. Desconzo Gardens, which again
you might recall we went out therefor Enchanted, which was fabulous for the
holidays. That's free this weekend, and it is so so beautiful, and
(33:45):
it's supposed to be sunny, soI think it might be a nice nice
You might want to bundle up becauseit's not gonna be super warm, but
maybe head out to Desconzo Gardens andjust wander around. And also the La
Arboretum and Botanic Garden, which wasanother place where we went out and saw
a fabulous night LightScape show for theholidays, that is also free. Both
(34:07):
of those are free on January sixteenth, and again it's free Museum Days in
LA. When we come back,we're going to play the what if game
when it comes to presidential politics. This should be fun. This Saturday,
starting a one point thirty, don'tmiss any of the AFC Wildcard NFL playoff
games featuring the Cleveland Browns and HoustonTexas, followed by the Miami Dolphins and
(34:30):
Kansas City Chiefs. At five. You can listen to the games on AM
five seventy LA Sports presented in partby Rotolo Chevrolet. See what all the
fun is about at Rotolo Chevrolet.Dangerous potentially damaging winds are expected to blow
into southern California today and tomorrow.A high wind warning will be in effect
from four this afternoon until noon tomorrow, with thirty four to forty mile per
(34:52):
hour winds expected and GUS sixty toseventy miles per hour possible. Drivers have
been urged to avoid traveling through themountains today unless it's absolutely necessary. Riverside
County Lawmaker Bill as Sale is introducinga bill that would stop undocumented residents in
California from getting access to taxpayer fundedhealth insurance. He says it's unconscionable to
(35:14):
spend billions of taxpayer dollars to giveuniversal healthcare to illegal immigrants when citizens can't
even afford their own healthcare. Thenext major phase of moving the retired Space
Shuttle Endeavor into launch position at theCalifornia Science Center starts today. Cruz will
be working to slowly move the massiveexternal fuel tank about one thousand feet through
(35:36):
Exhibition Exhibition Park, and then we'lllift it into vertical position. The rocket
motors for the shuttle are already upright, and then the shuttle itself will be
moved next. We're just minutes awayfrom handling the news this morning. We
now know that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austinhas prostate cancer. What we don't know
is why it took so long forAustin to share that information with the White
House. Let's say good morning nowto ABC's senior elections analyst Jeffrey Scaley.
(36:02):
Good morning, Jeffrey, Hey,good morning, Thanks for having me so
anytime. Right now, it lookslike President Biden and former President Trump are
going to be the two who faceoff in the race for the White House.
But we're going to play a littlegame of what if and let it
tell us, Jeffrey, what doyou see happening if a major party drops
(36:23):
candidate drops out of the race.Yes, I mean, look, it's
on a lot of people's minds becausePresident Biden is eighty one and former President
Trump is seventy seven, and youknow, they were already the oldest presidents
elected when they won in twenty sixteenand twenty twenty, so, you know,
(36:44):
so it's a concern that shows upin polling people especially I think Biden
is too old to be a president, and many think Trump is too old
to president. So something could happento health crisis, what have you.
So, in terms of what happensif one of them drops out, a
lot depends on the timing. ForRepublicans, you know, Trump were to
something happened to him tomorrow and hehad to drop out of the race.
(37:05):
You know, you have Ron DeSantisNikki Haley, two notable, well funded
candidates running for president. I thinkeven though it'd be a shock, I
think the primary would probably proceed apace somewhat like we're used to on the
Democratic side, though President Biden doesn'treally have any major competition. I mean,
Dean Phillips and Mary and Williamson arerunning against him. But Biden is
you know, basically a lock towin renomination unless something happens to him.
(37:29):
So you know that that that createsmore of an issue for Democrats. Okay,
and put on along with Trump, which is unlikely that he would drop
out of the race because of health, but could because of health issues.
He also has his legal issues, but that's nobody really thinks that that would
stop him, right right. Lookwith the legal issues, you know,
(37:54):
look, Trump could be convicted ofsomething, but it's extremely unlikely that he
would be in jail before the election. And even then if that were to
somehow happen, he could still runfor president. There is president for that.
Socialist candidate Eugene Debs in nineteen twentyran for president from jail, So
you know that that in and ofitself would not would not keep him from
(38:16):
running. Okay, Now, onthe Democrats side, like you said,
there is no heir apparent there.I mean, the other option is Kamala
Harris, which her ratings are lowerthan Biden's ratings. There's Governor Newsom's name
has been bandied about, but stillplaying the one what if game. If
(38:36):
President Biden said I'm not running orsomething happened and he wasn't able to run,
could we even get those other peopleon the ballot before the election?
Right? So, look, KamalaHarris is vice president, is sort of
a clear alternative for Democrats if somesort of crisis with Biden popped up,
right, So she'd be sort ofa safe harbor in a time of uncertainty
(39:00):
on the nomination front. But Ithink a lot does depend on, you
know, how how soon does somethinglike that happen, Because you're exactly right,
the primary finally filing deadline so toget your name on the ballot has
now passed in more than half ofstates, and very quickly you will have
very few states left. And alsowith our nomination process, in terms of
(39:22):
allocating delegates through election results, bymid March, both parties will have allocated
more than half, which means youcan't win a majority if you're if you're
another candidate on the ballot. Soyou know, you could try to run
as a writing candidate, but itgets very hard to do it via the
ballot quickly, and so a lotwould come down to what do delegates on
(39:45):
the Democratic side who are allocated toJoe Biden, what do they do?
And so that you know, inlarge part a lot of them would be
free agents headed into the Democrat NationalConvention. And so you know, if
something happened in April or May,you could imagine a scenario where if there
are concerns about Kamala Harris as thepresidential nominee, that you could have someone
like a Newsom or someone else tryingto run a campaign that is very unfamiliar
(40:10):
with us today because this is theway our primary system works now, but
one that in the past would havebeen quite normal, which is reaching out
to delegates trying to get them tosupport you when it actually comes to a
vote on the floor of the convention. Yeah. Well, and I know
that we're just playing the what ifgame, but as we're seeing kind of
anything can happen, and we'll bewatching for the next ten months because I
(40:30):
think it's going to be really interestingwhatever happens. Yes, I think twenty
twenty four is going to be veryinteresting one way or the other, and
probably especially for you, Jeffrey, because you're a senior elections analyst, so
this is right in your wheelhouse. So I hope we get to talk to
you lots more as we make ourway through the election season. Sounds great,
(40:52):
all right, so much, Thanksso much. Let's get back to
some of the stories coming out ofthe KFI twenty four our newsroom. The
Pentagon has confirmed SEP Secretary of DefenseLloyd Austin was admitted to the ICU because
of complications from treatment for prostate cancer. He had a urinary tract infection and
intestinal complications from surgery on December twentysecond. Pentagon spokesman Major General Patrick Ryder
(41:14):
says the White House and the Pentagondidn't learn the medical details until Tuesday morning
while Austin was still at Walter ReedMedical Center, and do not have any
information to provide in terms of whenhe might be released from the hospital,
but will be sure to keep youupdated and until then we will continue to
release daily status updates on his condition. The White House has ordered a review
of Cabinet protocols for delegating authority.A seventy one year old man who spent
(41:38):
forty years in federal prison for robbingfor banks has been arrested in Sun Valley
for bank robbery. The LAPD saysEdward Bell walked into a bank on Vineland
Avenue with a gun last month, grabbed an employee and forced the worker to
restricted access door. Police say hethreatened to shoot the employee if he wasn't
allowed in. He got away withmore than sixty thousand dollars. The two
(42:02):
thousand and one dance pop song Murderon the Dance Floor has made its Billboard
Hot one hundred debut, twenty threeyears after it was released. The song
featured in Emerald Fennel's twenty twenty threefilm Saltburn, at number ninety eight on
the chart this week. The newpopularity stems from actor Barry Cogan's nude dance
sequence in the movie, where hewaltzes around an estate. Does the song
(42:25):
plays. Billboard says the song hadthree point nine million streams in the US
and a ninety two percent increase insales from December twenty ninth to January fourth.
