In this deeply moving episode, Randy and Sharna sit down with Sonny Von Cleveland, whose story of survival, redemption, and transformation will stay with you long after the episode ends.
Sonny’s life began in trauma, he was sexually abused from the age of three, growing up in an environment that taught him pain before it ever taught him safety. At 7 years old, he was convicted of his first crime, and by the age of 12, he was convicted again and sent to juvenile detention, beginning what became an 18-year cycle in and out of prison through his teens and early adulthood. What followed was a life of violence, gangs, and long stretches in solitary confinement until something inside him shifted.
While in solitary confinement, Sonny found something he never expected - connection. A man in the cell opposite his became the mirror that helped him see himself differently, sparking a reawakening that catapulted his life in a new direction. It was there, in isolation, that accountability, forgiveness, and faith started to take root.
Today, Sonny is an author, speaker, and advocate, helping others turn their pain into purpose through his Von Cleveland Foundation. His new book, Hey White Boy: Conversations of Redemption, dives even deeper into his journey - confronting the darkest parts of his past and shining light on what healing really takes.
This conversation is raw, unfiltered, and full of heart, exploring how a life once defined by violence became a story of service, empathy, and hope.
