You're listening to a Muma Mia podcast. Mamma mea acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hi.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I'm Claire Murphy. This is Mumma MIA's twice daily news podcast,
The Quikie. Now. Look, there may be about one hundred
different personality tests out there, but there is currently one
that hails back to ancient times that's got the attention
of Hollywood. But before we start assigning ourselves numbers and
letters to better understand ourselves, here's in news headlines for Wednesday,
(00:41):
June three. The jury in the sex trafficking and racketeering
case against Sean Diddy Combs has heard how he paid
off hotel staff to stop footage of his violent attack
on ex girlfriend Cassie Ventura from going public. Eddie Garcia,
who worked as a security officer at the Intercontinental Hotel
in la told the court that Combs contacted him shortly
after the incident asking for the footage. Garcia said Combs
(01:05):
told him he would take care of him if he
gave him the video, that he was concerned and it
would ruin his career if it got out. The jurors
had previously been shown the footage, which shows Comb's wearing
only a towel around his waist, throwing Ventura to the ground.
After she attempts to leave, he drags her and kicks her,
throwing a vase at her. Venturer claimed the attack occurred
(01:25):
after Combs had given her a black eye during a
freak off, a drug fueled sexual performance with male sex
workers that prosecutors claim Comb's coerced women into joining. Garcia
says he relayed Combs's message to his boss, who told
him he would hand over the video in exchange for
fifty thousand dollars. The next day, Garcia testified that he
saw his boss enter the surveillance camera room then hand
(01:48):
him a USB drive. Garcia says he gave the drive
to Combs, who then took out a brown paper bag
and a money counter. He then claims he ran the
cash from the bag through the machine, counting out one
hundred thousand dollars, placing it back in the bag and
giving it to Garcia. Prosecutors claim the bribery is amongst
the racketeering acts Combs is facing charges over the Combs
(02:10):
and his employees would use money to both facilitate free
coughs or prevent word of the abuse from spreading. Today's
evidence was briefly interrupted by a heckler in the court
room who started yelling Ditty and a string of profanities.
The woman screamed at Ditty, saying they were laughing at him,
that the people in court were laughing at a black
man's legacy, and then said pull your gun out, I
(02:31):
dare you. She was removed from the room while Combs
remained seated. Prosecutors say they may finalize presenting their case
next week, allowing the defense to put its side to
the jury. Alleged mushroom killer Aaron Patterson will return to
the witness box for a third day after yesterday admitting
to foraging for wild mushrooms and the lead up to
the deadly lunch he served her in laws. The fifty
(02:53):
year old has pleaded not guilty to three counts of
murder and one of attempted murder over the debts of
her in laws, Don and Gale Patterson, and Gaal's sister
and brother in law, Heather and Ian Ian is the
only survivor after they ate a beef wellington made by
Pattison and which authorities say was lay with death cap mushrooms.
Patterson maintains the poisonings were not deliberate. Patterson explained that
(03:15):
she had started foraging for mushrooms during the COVID pandemic
in twenty twenty. Asked by the defense barrister whether she
accepted that there must have been death cap mushrooms in
the lunch she served, Patterson said yes, I do. She
explained why she'd purchased a food dehydrator, saying she liked
eating the mushrooms she'd foraged, but that it was only
a very short season and she wanted to preserve them.
(03:37):
The trial continues. Microsoft co founder Bill Gates has pledged
to donate the majority of his fortune to Africa. Gates,
whose worth is estimated at around two hundred billion dollars US,
gave a speech to the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa,
saying he'd recently made a commitment that his wealth will
be given away over the next twenty years. He went
(03:57):
on to say that the majority of that funding will
be spent helping address challenges in Africa, saying mothers should
survive delivery, babies should survive past their fifth birthday, kids
should be well nourished, and many infectious disseases should go away.
He said in the speech that people will say a
lot of things about him when he dies, but that
he's determined that he died rich will not be one
of them. Blake Lively has dropped some of the claims
(04:20):
against her. It ends with us CO star Justin Baldoni.
Lively requested to withdraw and dismiss her claims of intentional
infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress
after a lawyer for Baldoni filed a letter to the
judge requesting an order compelling Lively identify her medical and
mental health care providers and to sign a release allowing
(04:42):
them access to therapy notes and relevant medical information. Lively's
lawyers responded after Baldoni's lawyers claimed that Lively was waiting
for the discovery window to close, in which documents needed
to disprove that she suffered any emotional distress would be
required in order to refile the emotional distress claims, saying
she cannot have it both ways. Her lawyers have responded
(05:03):
saying this is a routine part of litigation processes and
that this is again being used as oppressed Doune. Lively
continues to allege emotional distress as part of numerous other
claims in her lawsuits, such as sexual harassment and retaliation.
The co stars conflict began last year when Lively filed
the sexual harassment complaint against Baldoni, alleging onset misconduct and
(05:25):
a retaliatory smear campaign spearheaded by Baldoni during the press
tour for the movie. He has denied all the claims.
Netflix's eye opening one shot drama Adolescence, has taken out
a stack of categories at the Gotham TV Awards. The
Gothams celebrate new arrivals in the TV landscape, with no
returning series eligible for an award, All nominees have to
(05:47):
have premiered their first season in the past twelve months. Adolescence,
which studies the rise of online misogyny in its impact
on young people as it follows a teenage boy accused
of murdering his classmate, picked up Best Breakthrough Limited Series
and Best Actor wins for both co creator Stephen Graham
and the show's young star Owen Cooper. The Gothams are
(06:07):
a good indicator as to who might pick up an
Emmy down the track with last year's best Breakout Limited
Series win a Baby Reindeer also picking up the Emmy
for Outstanding Limited Series. That's what's happening in the world today. Next,
we're all about the Enneagrams. Have you ever been told, Oh,
you're such a type seven or that is such type
(06:29):
for behavior? You, my friend, have been assigned an Anyagram number?
The personality test from way back when is currently the
objective fascination for many, from celebrities across Hollywood to people
in the group chat. But what the heck do those
numbers mean? Say Le's Strano has more.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
The Enneagram personality test has been around for seven decades,
but it's having a major moment right now thanks to
some pretty influential celebrities. Take Mike White, the creator of
The White Lotus scorpiow, it's not easy for me, Rick,
I'm an aries. I need everything out in the open.
He's made every cast member take the tear before filming
(07:10):
in Thailand and even diagnosed each character with their Aniagram number.
Amy Pohla is reportedly so into it that she's making
all of her friends take the test, including Maya, Rudolph
and Tina Fey, who says it's more accurate than horoscopes.
And for the record, Tina is a type three. So
(07:30):
what exactly is an enneagram? Put simply, it's a personality
test that classifies you as one of nine numbers. This
number sits on the enniagram, a nine pointed shape invented
by ancient Greeks, and it's meant to reveal your motivations, priorities,
dominant characteristics, and even your fears. The enneagram has a
(07:50):
pretty interesting backstory. The symbol itself is ancient, but it
got a modern spiritual twist in the early nineteen hundreds
thanks to a philosopher at the time. It really gained
traction though in the fifties, when another thinker, Ichaozo, expanded
on it. After World War Two, there was a pretty
big surgeon interest around psychology and spirituality, and the enneagram
(08:12):
fit right in. In the seventies, it made its way to
Berkeley in California, where it started blending with Christian teachings
and spreading more widely. While critics by court pseudoscience. In
our current world where everything seems increasingly complex, there's something
kind of comforting about being able to identify someone by
a number or two. So what are the nine personality types?
(08:36):
Type ones are the reformers or the perfectionists. They're driven
by a desire for goodness and integrity, but can struggle
with anger. I fear I may be a Type one
aka Type A, and I feel like probably some areas
codedness is in there as well. Type twos are the helpers,
wanting to feel worthy of love, but sometimes falling into manipulation.
(08:58):
Type threes like Tina Fey are the achievers. They need
to feel valuable, but can become so obsessed with being
their best. Type fours, which include Glenn and Doyle, are
the individual They strive to be uniquely themselves, but can
get lost in daydreaming. Fives are the investigators, seeking to
understand everything, but sometimes intellectualizing instead of taking action. Type
(09:22):
sixes are the loyalists, looking for support and guidance, but
often paralyzed by indecision. Type sevens are the enthusiasts, seeking
contentment but sometimes feeling like nothing is ever enough. Eights
are the challengers, wanting influence but potentially isolating themselves, and finally,
type nines the peacemakers, desiring connection but often avoiding difficult conversations.
(09:48):
The impact of knowing your number can be significant. Just
ask the cast of The White Lotus. Actress Amulu Woods said,
everyone was nervous to tell Mike White fair number, worry
that they might have gotten a bad one that he
wouldn't like.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
But who could.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Possibly be mad at our beloved Chelsea. So, whether you're
a skeptic or a believer, but there's no denying that
this ancient system is having a very modern renaissance and
it might just help you understand yourself and the others
around you a little bit more.
