Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listing to a Mummamea podcast. Mummamea acknowledges the traditional
owners of land and waters that this podcast is recorded on. Hi.
I'm Nicole Madigan from Mummamea's twice daily news podcast, The
Quickie with your Headlines. For Tuesday, June ten, law reforms

(00:31):
will stop family pets from being used to carry out
domestic violence after separation. The changes, which came into effect
on Tuesday, provide a specific framework for deciding ownership of
pets and preventing the use of animals to perpetrate violence.
The reforms also give family law courts a new power
to help stop sensitive information being viewed or used as

(00:52):
evidence in proceedings where the harm in doing so outweighs
the need for it. The economic impacts of family violence
will now be considered when property and finances are being
divided between separated couples. The Federal Circuit and Family Court
of Australia will be funded to expand their world leading
initiative called the Lighthouse Model, which improves risk screening, triage

(01:15):
and assessment of family law matters. A leading fertility clinic
has been embroiled in a second embryo transfer blunder. Staff
at Monash IVFS Clayton Laboratory on Thursday incorrectly transferred to
patient's embryo to them instead of their partner's embryo as requested.
The company, which is based in Melbourne and has clinics

(01:36):
around Australia, has launched an internal investigation and apologized to
the couple. Monash says it will also set up additional
verification processes and patient confirmation safeguards. The Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee,
Certifying Body and Victorian Health Regulator have also been notified

(01:57):
of the incident. The incident comes after Monash IVF revealed
in April that a woman at a Brisbane facility had
another patient's embryo incorrectly transferred to her due to human
error back in twenty twenty five. The error was discovered
in February when the birth parents of the toddler requested
to transfer their remaining embryos to another provider and an

(02:17):
unexpected additional embryo was found in storage. This led to
the realization that the woman had been implanted with another
patient's embryo, resulting in her giving birth to a child
that was not genetically hers. Sean Diddy Combs's ex girlfriend
has told a court that she was forced to have
a freak off style sexual encounter with a male sex

(02:39):
worker after Combs allegedly put her in a chokehold, punched
her in the face, and kicked down doors. Testifying for
a third day under the pseudonym Jane, the woman claims
Combs erupted after she accused him of cheating on her.
After allegedly beating her, Jane claims Combs invited a sex
worker over, gave her an ecstasy pill, and told her

(03:01):
You're not going to ruin my night like this. Jane's
injuries reportedly included a black eye and welts on her forehead.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering
charges that could put him in prison for life. Jane's
testimony is expected to fill the bulk of the trial's
fifth week, as prosecutors move closer to the end of

(03:22):
their presentation before the defense gets its turn. Jurors in
Harvey Weinstein's Me Too retrial appeared to be far apart
on a verdict as they returned to court for a
third day of deliberations. The jury asked to be reminded
of the definition of reasonable doubt and rules about avoiding
a hung jury. The four person also sent a note

(03:44):
saying he wanted to speak to the judge about a
situation he says wasn't very good. The four person told
Judge Curtis Farber that he was concerned about something going
on in the jury room. The jury of seven women
and five men began weighing charges against the former movie
mogul on Thursday. The seventy three year old has pleaded
not guilty to two counts of committing a criminal sex

(04:07):
act and one count of rape. He was first convicted
in New York in twenty twenty of rape and sexual
assault against two women in a verdict considered a landmark
in the Me Too movement, but the conviction was subsequently overturned,
leading to his retrial with an additional accuser added last
year before a new jury and a different judge. That's

(04:30):
your evening news headlines. On tomorrow's episode of The Quickie,
Justin Baldoni's lawsuit against Blake Lively has been dismissed. We
unpack the ongoing legal feud. Listen to The Quickie wherever
you get your podcasts.
