Good afternoon. I'm Railing Ramsey. This is your afternoon news
fix for Monday, the first of December. The government's proposing
to cap council rates increases at four percent a year.
It'll apply to all sources, including general rates, targeted rates,
and uniform annual charges, but exclude water charges and other

non rates revenue. Here is political reporter Troy Matticch.

Councils will only be able to increase rates beyond that
figure with permission from a regulator appointed by the government.
An increase above four percent will only be granted in
extreme circumstances like a natural disaster. The full regulatory model
will take effect by twenty twenty nine.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Health warnings for Christ School students who ate moldy lunches. Today,
Hayata Community Campus has recalled all lunches after discovering some
boxes contain fury and dead looking food. Principal Peggy Burrows
so some children had already eaten, which is a worry
for their health and safety.

The lunch provider, I'm sure that they would be horrified.
I honestly don't know how this has happened, but it's
totally unacceptable. We've definitely had lots of issues with school
lunchers in the past, but this is the most catastrophic
issue we've ever had.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
The Ministry of Education has been approached for comment scrutiny
of social media posts by the Public Service Commission about
October's mass strike action. The Commission ran ads on Facebook
before the strike across much of the public sector. His
senior political reporter Azaria Howell.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
The posts included details on pay increases for sectors striking
and commentary on its disruption to medical and education services.
The Auditor Generals confirm the Commissions engaging an external party
to carry out a review. It's recognized there may be
lessons to learn.

A positive step towards providing more mental health support to
people with HIV and their FARNO. This World Aids Day,
the Burnett Foundations received one hundred thousand dollars funding to
scale up rape around counseling services. Chief Executive Les Gibbs
says these sessions can be life saving for people and
it's also critical to help those around them.

Our council services provide for every dollar we put in,
four dollars of social return on investments in proving people's lives.
So this new contract means we can do even more
of that really important work.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Landlords must now let renters keep pets unless they have
reasonable grounds to prohibit them. The pet bond scheme begins today,
letting landlords take two more weeks rent in exchange for
allowing pets. He has Political reporter Ethan Griffiths.

Speaker 6 (02:42):
The Housing Minister and Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour celebrated
the launch at Parliament today picnicking with a pack of dogs.
Chris Bishop says, as well as giving tenants more freedom,
the new rules will help with rehomeing greyhounds and assess
victims of domestic violence who feel unable to leave because
of pets. He expects most lands lords will be reasonable,
but there may be a small rise in Tennessee tribunal

morning when Red Bull Racing boss Laurent Mechez reveals the
