hosting the Glenwood City Hilltoppers here in some week more
action than Welcome to the broadcast. It's a rainy night,
it's cooled off a little bit, but a big rivalry
game between these two teams, two strong teams coming in.
What are you looking for?

And who doesn't love a game in the elements? I mean,
come on, it's no game, rain game, any game. It's
good football. And especially between these two teams that are
pretty decent rivals, and especially being a top the dun
Saint Croix, it's gonna be a really interesting one, especially
with the hensity these two teams bring.

Absolutely you touched on it here, but coming into this one,
these are two very strong teams. Of course, Boyceville comes
in too, and oh They've won their first two games
by a combined score of get this, one hundred and
seven to nothing. That's pretty good.

Yeah, we we'll tell you that's pretty good. Glen Wood City. Meanwhile,
just to step behind there at two and one started
off two and oh lost a heartbreaker last week to Grantsville.

Grantsburg and that's they were all saying, no, you know,
it's a it's a it's a one of those names.
But that was number four ring Grandsberg too. That shows
just how wrong this team, this glamou'd see team can be.
And that's why if your boysmail, you gotta watch out
because these teams, these teams love to play spoiler and
spoiler teams are especially Diamond doesn't here in Dune, Saint

Croix and most of these high school division and most
of these high school divisions, Uh, you gotta watch out.
But that's why it's gonna be a fun game though.

Oh yeah, it's gonna be tons of fun. I think
Mother nature adding to that a little bit with this rainstorm,
no lightning in the vicinity as of yet, so we're
gonna play the heavy stuff should be passed us and
i gotta tell you here in my second year calling

This is the first time I've been able to call
a game here in the elements. I'm telling you football
belongs outside, and I'm sure you'd agree as somebody who's
played in these games. As it looks like Glenwood City
will be kicking off to Boyceville going from right to left.
As we look at it, quick look at the uniform
matchup as we get started. For the visiting Glenwood City Hilltoppers,
white helmets, white jerseys with red and blue numbers and

blue pants. Meanwhile, for the Boyceville Bulldogs, it's purple helmets,
black jerseys and purple pants. Dan, We're ready and here
it comes. The kickoff is fielded at about the twenty
by Boysville on the far side of the screen the field,
excuse me is Leslie is the return man. He gets
it up to about the forty and that's where the
Bulldogs will start off to night's festivities and.

A solid patient return there by. Leslie too, just kind
of waiting for his blockers to get ahead of him
and find a little bit of a scene, which he
did getting to the forty and a great starting field
position there for Boyceville.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Get ready to go here, Boyceville looking to maintain their
good record this season. Their quarterback Carson Romhild leads them
out onto the field as we get started first and
ten from the forty yard line, eleven minutes and fifty
five seconds left to go here in quarter number one.

Yeah, and this team, I mean you touched on it
before one hundred and seven to zero. I mean it
speaks for itself. But still this team leads atop the
conference in multiple statistical categories. Especially with these players and
Carson romhels on nearly the top and passing touchdowns. It's
gonna be interesting to see what they do with him today.

Romhild and the shotgun. He's gonna run it himself. Coming
to the near side on first and ten, He's able
to get to maybe about the forty two to forty
three game of two or three that time, second down.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
And that was a great job there by. The Glenwood
City defensive line to just close down the gap and
not really wet rom Heiled run free on that end there,
we'll pick up a couple of yards, though.

Gain of two makes it second and eight here for Boysville.

And this this defense for Glenwood City has been a
very good defense throughout this first three games. And I
mean that Grandsburg game, it was really almost a blowout
for the longest time up until the end of it.

Second and eight from the forty two. Officially is rom
Heiled in the backfield. No, he's under center, and they
hand the ball off to Zach Heldon Helen drum and
Helen Drunk is able to fight forward to about the
forty five yard line, and that's where he's hit and dropped,
and so it'll be third and five. It'll be an
interesting play call here for the Bulldogs.

Yeah, and especially because it's it's wet out, you don't
want to be throwing around the ball too much. You
want to really keep it on the ground. That's how
most of these teams kind of run. Especially when you're
in the elements like this, you gotta always watch out
for fumbles, gotta watch out for mishandling of the ball,
so we could see another run here, but honestly, I'd
like to see him do maybe something with the play action.

Let's see, it's third and five right from their own
forty five yard line here for the Boysville Bulldogs. Back
to pass goes Romhild fires far sided off the fingertips incomplete.
Looks like incomplete he was looking for h Ain't quite
fine enough. It looks like it's Bradley Mays the wide
receiver on that time. It'll be fourth and.

Five now, and I mean that's what we were talking
about there. A little bit too high there for maze,
but you gotta come down with those. But it's gonna
be hard, especially in the elements like this rain start
coming down again. We can see it, especially with the
lights out here. It's coming down a lot, and you're
gonna have to really really get a good grip on
that ball to come down with that, especially against a
hard defense like this.

Looks like Boysville's going to leave the offense out there
on fourth and five from their own side of midfield,
Romhild and the shotgun two wide receivers on the far side.
He's back to pass on fourth and five. A block
is picked up to throw his deep downfield and it's
hauled in Glenn and Leslie, Oh no, he dropped it.

not bring that one down and it's a turnover on downs.

And yeah, I mean, you're telling me he had that
square in his bread basket, but he just could not
haul that in and it just popped out freely, almost
no contact at all. It's just telling you just how
the elements are affecting this game. Already in the first quarter.

A lot of umbrellas in the stands in front of us,
and you know that's what happens. You know, when you
when you see rain, you expect running football and sometimes
airing it out doesn't quite work. So we'll see what
Glenwood City does. They take it over first and ten
on the boys fill forty five as faking the handoff.

Actually it is a handoff, and up past the forty
to about the thirty eight is the ball carrier for
Glenwood's City trying to find a number. Looks like that's
Preston Rvy, the junior running back.

And he's had a great season so far. Just they
also and we see this with a bunch of different teams,
but they try to spread out the ball and have
more running backs in that backfield, try and get that
handoff just so they can keep their runners fresh, especially Avery,
who can really run through some players.

So it'll be a gain of six now, second and
four here for Glenwood's City quarterback in the shotgun for
Glenwood City as its main and made well fake the handoff.
He throws over the middle in some pressure and he's
got a man complete. It's a first down and a

little bit more to about the thirty one yard line.

Big missed opportunity for this defense here by boyseball miss
sack on that far left edge. But you gotta really
get your handling. You gotta get you gotta understand that
these are going to effect. You gotta find that way
to settle down when you're on defense and just slow
up to the football, especially when it's a quick runner
like that. It's gonna be tough out there to especially

plant in the ground and try and turn up field.
So you guys gotta really sit there and wait for
them to get to you at field.

Looking slick already a little bit of mud here as

Yeah, and it seems like it's gonna be all sides
on the Bulldogs fight. I mean all sides on the defense. Actually,
I thought maybe one of the offensive linemen may have
jumped off sides a little bit. But now just itching
to get forward, and it's that shows just what this
energy of this game is gonna be. Like everyone's gonna
be antsy to get forward, get that first hit in there,
make that first contact, and especially Boysville, who's a really strong,

really heavy hitting team, they're gonna really be the ones
to want to be the first ones to the ball.

It'll be first and five now from the twenty five
yard line back to pass throwing but incomplete is Maine
and is looking towards the far sideline. He wanted Brody
Reva and could not get it there, and that'll bring
up second and five.

No, it's and if you didn't have nos. It's been
a lot of conservative play calling so far here, just
kind of trying to test what the defense is willing
to give up here, especially with how the rain has
been coming down. I mean, that's the safest way to
be moving this football.

five for Glenwood City. Maine's in the shotgun, a man
in motion, and now movement on that offensive line, and
that'll be a false start.

Glenwood City backs up five yard what would have been
the original line of scrimmage if not for that, offsides
makes it second and.

Ten five yards forward, five yards backwards, and we're just
back into the same spot is where we started at.
But now it's second and ten here, it's going to
be a different It's going to be a difficult decision here.
If they can't get a completion here, can't get much
running yards as a third down and long is gonna
be a really difficult pickup for them.

Second and ten for Maine and the Hilltoppers. He hands
the ball off up the middle and fighting forward for
a gain of about six or seven. Trying to find
a number on that young ball carry. Looks like that
was Preston RV. On the carry, he fights forward for
a gain of seven, makes it third and short.

Nothing world bending here on these runs, but just enough
to really get the ball rolling here. As Preston RV
has seventy nine yards on the ground, he averages almost
five yards of carry. And that's that's about as consistent
as you can get in this division.

Yeah, five yards of carry certainly a number that any
coach would be happy with. Is it's third and three
now from the twenty three yard line for Glenwood's City.
It'll be a hand off again up the middle close
to that line to gain right at the twenty. I'm
not sure they got there.

Yeah, they're got to mark him just short. Looks like
almost an inch almost an inch short there, just barely.

It'll be fourth and inches here for Glenwood City as
it's seven forty seven left to go here in the

And it's gonna be interesting to see what they try
and run here, I mean, most especially with how the
elements are gonna affect the game. You think of maybe
a sneak or something quick up the gut is maybe
the option here. But we've seen trickery in the past
with this option.

Made in the shotgun with Rvey the lone back. As
Rby gets the handoff, he fights forward, he gets past
the line and oh do they mark him inside? He's
down at the one for Preston Rvy. He got the
first down and more for Glenwood City. And now this
is a Boycevield defense who has yet to give up
a point so far this year, and it's they've got

to feel pretty dicey first and one they mark it
right at the fine.

Yeah, they're right in the danger zone right now. This

I mean he got stopped almost at the fifteen, but
that's why you keep your legs moving and keep moving forward.

Jackson Mayne as their backup quarterback in there six point
fifty six left to go. After a timeout from the
Glenwood City Hilltoppers and the Boyceville Bulldogs defense trying not
to allow their first points of the season. As Maine
is in the shotgun one back in the backfield area,

it'll be a fumble the ball as lose. It's fallen
on by a lineman for the Hilltoppers, so Glenwood City
retains possession. What we've been talking through the early going
the first quarter about the weather conditions and the ball
becoming harder to handle, Dan and we saw it right there. Yeah.

but I mean it's getting even more slick out there
as the ring comes down, and it's just gonna get

can because you're not gonna be able to hold onto
that when you have someone trying to rip that through.

over these Boysville Bulldogs. Glenwood City clicks off from left
to right. That one fielded about the twenty three and

all that separates these two teams. About midway through the
first quarter eight to six, Glenwood City leading Boyceville. Noah

Yeah, and it's been really affecting that both of these teams.
I mean, we've seen a couple of drop balls, some
fumbles around here. I mean Gwenwood City had to get
backed up as they kicked this one off.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Bettell. He kicks it away here for Boyceville. That one
field at about the ten by Glenwood City making a
move inside to about the thirty. A helmet is on
the field and let taken down at the thirty is
the ballcarrier for Glenwood City. One of the special teamers
lost his hat for Boyceville. He looks like he's okay.

Yeah, he got up and he was just kind of
ready to go. He didn't even look for his helm
and one of his teammates gave it to him. He
was ready to go into the next play without it.

Oh yeah, I mean you gotta love that kind of
tough and especially for your team, and especially in a
game like this in eight to six one two, And man,
this has been some action already and we still have

Absolutely here is Glenwood City comes to the line, they'll
have it first intent at their own thirty yard line,
and they're hanging on to a two point lead over
these Boyceville Bulldogs.

Yeah, and we've seen a lot of different different movement
here from the Glenwood City offense or formations. I should say.
They've thrown the ball, they've passed the ball, they or
they've ran the ball. It's been all over the place,
and they really haven't been afraid to move it.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
And in the shotgun hands the ball off looks like
that is RV once again on first down, and RV
fights for a game of a couple brings up.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Second in law and a great tackle there from Tuckle
Tucker Winstrom. I mean, he absolutely stuck him right there.
They look like he maybe could have gotten for another
two or three plus yards, but Lanstram just brought him
right down.

Five and a half minutes left to go here in
the first it'll be second and seven after the gain
of six for Glenwood City and Rvy.

Ben Rvy's already had like good start to his game too.

Hey, you gotta think what the weather conditions. He'll carry
the load a lot. As they break the huddle, come

Yeah, on a great job there by Clayton's score to
make that first contact in there. He completely bursted right
through the middle of the line and just was right
there and ready to go, ready to catch that running
back right in his arms.

So gain of three on first down, loss of three
on second brings up third and ten here for Glenwood's
City from their own thirty yards. Luck hill Toppers come
to the line Maine in the shotgun again four wide
receivers to on either side of the offensive line, just
one back in the backfield. Think that's RV again. They
handed to Arvy. Rvy fights forward to about we'll call

that the thirty five yard line and a late flag
coming in off after the play. So we'll have to
see on this one. But right now it stands fourth
and five. Let's check on that penalty.

Especially if it's after the play. It could be a
unsportsmanlike and you don't want that.

Looks like it is going against Boycefeld didn't quite see
what that hand signal was from here.

No, I didn't see it either. He did it really quickly.
But either way, it's a first down for boysfil now
and sudden are not voice ball, but a first down
for Glenwood City now and sends them up in a
per position after they really couldn't get anything going on
that first uh first few snaps.

Yeah, all the way up to the fifty yard line.
The midfield stripe here for Glenn City. Big penalty there
and something especially after a third down stop Boycefield can't
be happy about. It's the Hilltoppers come back to the
line of scrimmage first and ten right from midfield one

back in the backfield alongside Maine. They hand the ball

once again and no, it looks like it was a
fake handoff. Maine's gonna keep it and Maine's going to
maybe get into the forty nine yard line before he stopped.
Will be a gain of one second and nine.

It was a good read. It just he didn't really
get the right step in. He maybe could have gotten
another couple of yards there. But right now, Boyce has
been closing down those gaps on the run, especially after
they kind of just let him march right up the
field in that first possession.

Inside of three and a half minutes left to go
here in the first quarter, it's what you would call
a steady rain here in Boyceville, Wisconsin. Is Maine leads
the Glenwood City Hilltoppers back to the line now second
and nine from the forty nine one wide receiver toward

have happened. When you're out there playing, especially in white jerseys,

up knowing who's been playing out there by just the
look of their jerseys at the end, especially when it's
all completely green.

the far side as well. Once again it is a

And they have not thrown up single pass really in
this entire drive. I mean, it's been run, run, run,
and so far nothing's really gone their way, especially against
this defense that's really closed down those gaps. But who knows,
it looks like they're the potential they could go for
this year. I mean, it is the spot. They are
in Boiceful territory, so this would be or they're close

this would be the spot to go for it, especially
with a shorter field.

we brought that up multiple times in that first quarter.
It's an insane stat because teams like that they tend

has really stalled out here is thankfully they were able

been widely adapted in high school football. But the players
that jump off sides and get back over before that

On it good to play heads up on that defensive
line now on first and fifteen from the thirty, it'll
be a handoff. Looks like that Zach Helen drung again,

Of four, and that's why that false start really backed
them up so much. I mean, they had some real
momentum going there, but I mean one step backwards and
it can just slow your offense down and suddenly you
have to really make up some grounded especially when it's

some great playmakers out there that we've seen all game long.

talking it over one more time saying are we sure

from here that bords the territory of most kickers in
this division. So unless they have a great leg out there,
they're not gonna really be able to have a chance

a chance to really move down the field. But here
you have some open options. Whether you go for a
screen pass, whether you go for some trick play, you

have a play, and especially with how this voiceful offense
is moved, I mean, they have been able to find
gaps in this defense, whether it's been in the passing
game or the running game. It's gonna be interesting to
see what they draw up here.

Well, we've talked about the weather more often than we've
set our own names. But of course a thirty five
yard er in this kind of weather would not be
a gimmeas it looks like they'll go for it here
on fourth and twelve, Rome Hild rather back in the shotgun.
He on corks throwing to the corner of the end zone,
just out of reach his intended receiver, Landon Leslie. He

But man, Carson, rome Hill's.

Got an arm, he definitely does, and he really had

But just this is how these elements play in. I mean,
you have to really get a good grip on the ball,
especially as a quarterback to get a good throw in there,
and you could tell it kind of just sailed on him.
And those throws have been really sailing on him. He's
had another one that kind of was overthrown in that

last drive as well, But for the most part, He's
been pretty good, just kind of sitting in the pocket
and finding his receivers in the middle of the field.
Just couldn't find him on that one. And now it's

want to go back to that throw for Roll held

not going to make a difference in the rain. I'm

Yeah, and it's been all Boysville ever since that first
drive by Glenwood City. I mean, great adjustment here by
the coaching staff and the defense to really come back
in and not allow Glenwood to run as well as
they had. I mean, they were finding all kinds of
gaps in that defense, but with that adjustment, they closed
down those gaps and haven't let them really do anything

at all. And the passing game just has not been
there at all. In fact, they haven't really been attempting
any passes ever since really that first drive, which is
kind of interesting because I mean, right now, if you
look out there, it looks like the rain has stopped,
and while the field is very wet and it's going
to be hard to really set and stand, you kind
of expect to see some more passes here, especially with
it being so deep in the second quarter.

Yeah, we'll have to see here is it'll be second
and ten for Glenwood's City. They've got a ways to
go if they want to even not even up the score,
but get it a little bit closer before the intermission.
But we'll see what they do here. Thirty eight seconds

Hilltoppers out there, another fumble again for Glenwood's City. That's

got to be three or four, and it looks like
the Hilltoppers able to fall on that one in the backfield.

Yeah, it's just been a great job by Boysful to
come back into this game. After coming into this and
letting glen Wood City just march right down the field
and score opening drive touchdown, They've really closed off that
offense and has really stuffed them and stifled them in
all kinds of ways. It's gonna be an interesting thing
to see what they try and adjust in the second
half and see how Boyceful comes back from this. It

almost looked like they could have been up three scores,
but those unforced penalties have really been the biggest burden
on Boysful throughout this game. I mean, well, unforced penalties
and errors, I should say too, because they've had a
couple of those going different directions. I'm guessing they're gonna
try and clean those up and talk about it in
the locker room. But so far, it's been a great
game between these two, and who doesn't love a game

in the elements here still a little bit rainy, maybe
not as much anymore. It's kind of closed off a
little bit, but it's they'll slick out there, and we're
seeing a lot of people run around, falling, slipping. This
is the kind of football you like to see out there.

Yeah, it's been an interesting one between these two teams.

same thing can be sent for Glenwiz as well.

Consistency from the offense after having a very device, very
dynamic first drive that really pushed this offense forward, and
it looked like they were going to be able to
really take control of the game, especially with how strong

could not find anything in the second quarter at all.
It's gonna be interesting to see if they try and
maybe drop some screenplays for him, dropped some different plays
to get him out into the open field because right now,
running it up the gut is not really doing it
for him.

their first points of the season on that first half
touchdown in Glenwood's City, they looked like they were on fire,

came right back into this. And I mean it was

all over on the special teams quite literally. After that
ate nothing drive. Uh, he had come back and scored
a kick return for a touchdown and then in the
next drive got a rushing touchdown. Then he also got
an interception later on in the game. I mean, that
is all factors of the game. He's affected and you
gotta have a guy like that if you're gonna go
far in this division.

Yeah, he was a lot of fun to watch. I
mean that kickoff return was electrifying. Ran in a couple
through a couple, had the interception. Playing defense, you know,
a lot of times we get a lot of two
way players at this level of high school football, and
a lot of times you really only mention him on
one side of the ball. But really, you know, you
talk about, you know, in the history of the game

of football, guys like Chuck Bednarik two way players. How
often have you heard of Carson Romhill being a three
way player offense, defense, and special teams, making not just
plays but big plays, decipsive plays in all three phases
of the game tonight.

No, that is a rare thing to have, especially someone
that can impact all levels of the offense, special teams, defense.
And I mean not only that, he's a great leader
out there. You can tell whenever he's out there on
the field, he kind of just is communicating with everyone
out There's everyone's listening to him, everyone's ready to go,
everyone's ready to play forward, play on. And I mean

he's been just great behind there. And also for a quarterback.
He can really lay some boom out there. He ran
over a couple of different players just to get some

I liked there was aspects from both of these teams
that I like this game. I think Glenwood City has

be interesting to see what they do to recover from this,

the world for them, but they really struggled with just
