seven High School Playoffs as the undefeated two seed Boyceville

Bulldogs host the three seed at nine to one the
pepenn Alma Eagles. Uh Dan, happy to be alongside you
here in this one and as we get ready to go,
what are you looking for out of this game?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
It's gonna be a lot of It's gonna be a
lot of ground and Penn I'll be honest, but it's
gonna be a really who's able to establish this run more?
These two teams both nine and both have nine wins
on the season. Obviously, pepin Alma lost that one to
Cochrane Fountain City only fifteen to fourteen, though that one
point differential.

It's gonna be an interesting.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Matchup to see how boys will fars against them, as
if they are able to get past this round it's
gonna really paint the picture for that Cochrane Fountain, City
of matt Up, for both teams.

Really, absolutely, it's gonna be a great game. Just one
loss between these two teams as they come into this
ball game. It's gonna be a hardball game. You've got
Boysville a very balanced team all sides of the football.
And meanwhile, Peppin All, I'm a really intent on running
that football and we're gonna have to see how that
plays out here in this one. But right now we're
gonna have to send it down to the field here

lot of anticipation here for this one. Boysville really trying
to continue that undefeated season, and Pep and Alva are

really trying to also make their way down to Camp
Randalls Stadium in Madison for State. As we get ready
for this one, I know we touched on it before
the anthems, but how do you think these two offenses
are going to play in this.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
It's really gonna depend on who It's gonna depend on
the trenches battle here. Honestly, you got two big team,
especially on the offensive line.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
You obviously have some great rushers out there.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
I mean, the biggest man of the hour right now
is just uh is there we Go Bergmann, who is
one hundred and seventy three rush on the ground, one
fifteen rushing yards and thirty one touchdowns. That's ten point
five yards per carry. He's a great rusher out there.
But that's not the only thing. They also have another

great rushing in Owen Post to twenty seven rushes, four
and forty five yards, five touchdowns. Those are great numbers,
but not only that. Owen Post also has four hundred
receiving yards too. He's their best receiver but also one
of their better runners too. They have a lot of
weapons out here, and if they get the accurate blocking
that they can Heapen's going.

To really make it a hard bile for Boysville.

But for Boyceville, though, Boysville has a chance here to
show off their defense, to show why the twelve points
that Webster scored last week were the most in a
season are for this team, and show why that they're
such a strong defense out there, especially since they were
able to stop the ground game. Ronald Hatch got to
the best of them throughout a good chunk of the

game last game, but they still ended up winning fifty
to twelve despite his one hundred yard game.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Absolutely, that's certainly what we're going to be looking for
here is this Boysville defense too. They've been They've still
really strong all season long, but having a rusher like
prep as with furbishment eight hundred or excuse me, eighteen
hundred and fifteen yards in a high school season is
what they'll tell you is a lot.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
It is just getting too close to that two thousand
yard marker. No matter who you're playing against, you're gonna
be facing that competition every single week, no matter what conference,
and no matter what. Getting that eighteen hundred yard mark,
that's a big accomplishment not only on your offense, not
only on your running backs, but on that offensive line too.
And they've got some tough guys out there on that
offensive line. But on the defense, you got Helen draw

who's had a great season so far, fifty fifty four tackles, fourteen.

Tackles for lost, five sacks.

He's gonna be a big factor in this game rushing
the passer, especially if they have to drop back, because
that's the thing I expect the most tonight is both
teams are gonna key in on that run game and
not allow either one to really get a flow going
on that offensive ground game.

here in Boyceville, as we are just heast as we

it's level two of the D seven playoffs, and it

is about as good of a matchup as we could

As we get ready to go, it looks like it
should be. That looks like Zach helendrung out there to
kick things away for Boyceville. He steps into it and
it's a long kick fielded inside the five and looks

like oh stumbling at a out the twenty two yard
line is the return man for Pepinalma. That's Owen Post,
the senior wing back. He's listed as just lost his
footing on some slick grass and they'll start off right
about the twenty four yard line on their first drive.

Yeah, and Owen Post had a massive game last last game.
On every aspect of the game. He had two hundred
and eight total yards. That includes his forty yard kick
return as well. He's a hard guy to take down,
but he's a dangerous player that if you let him
have any space, he will take you four of the
distance and he's he is a hard.

He also had about three touchdowns total in that game.

It'll be first and ten from their own twenty three
here for Peppinal the Trenton Kroska is the quarterback. He
will hand the ball off to their running back. Looks
like that was Justin Bergman, the man we talked about
in that pregame show. Bergman gets about three yards running
towards the near sideline. Second and seven.

Yeah, and that was just a great job there by
the edge to really set that edge and not allow
him to get any more dis stints on that outside.
It's gonna be a big thing for this boys Faul
team to not allow any outside runs because if Bergman
can get that kind of space, he will take the

Yeah, and that was a bit of a generous spot
right there, I'm gonna be honest with you. Look like
he was down maybe a yard or too shorter than that,
but still able to get in between the tackles and
make something out of nothing. He got stonewalled almost to start,
but that's what he does. He just keeps grinding through
the contacts.

of four. Officially, this time, the handoff goes to Cole mcquisten,
the senior running back, and mcquests met at the line.

And wow, what a great job there, getting one of
their better runners out there in Cole mcqwister. He's gonna
have a big, massive game in this one. But again,
just a good job by boycevill He's one of those
guys that is kind of in between, but he gets
his touches and he makes do with them.

Here Bergman, one of the backs in the backfield for
peppin Alma. They've got to get all the way to
the forty three yard line for a new set of downs.
Crowd is loud here in Boyce philis Kroska barks out
the signals. It's a handoff once again up the middle.
That is Bergman, and he's not gonna get there, barely

Wow, that was that was quite the stop right there,
and especially in a situation where you're expecting them to
maybe pass the ball there, they sold out for the
run and they absolutely did. The mic call stopped him
there grounded him there and now you.

Here for peppin Alma and it is the punt unit.
And so Boyceville's defense stands strong.

Voyceville team is a team that will capitalize on any
air that their opponent makes. And man, that snap a
good ten feet and over top of prosca his head.
Is the punter first and goal to start off the
game here for the Bulldogs.

And that's another thing to note is those it's gonna
be a hard time snapping this football with this rain
coming down like that. And we saw it just there
that went carrening over his head, not even close to
the punter there and.

I believe that was right el to keep up with it,
get the block and continue and just landed on it
for first down and five at the goal line.

There's peppin first and goal from the five. Here is
romhild Is under center. This time it's a handoff to
Zach Helen Drunk and he gets four of the five
they needed. He's down at the one as Zach Hellen
Drunk this season five hundred and sixty two yards on
the ground, eleven touchdowns. He was looking for his twelfth there.

Oh yeah, he's a big man, and trust me, when
he's coming through, you really have to wrap up below
the below the pads because if you wrap up high
on him, he's gonna keep taking for a ride. He's
a big guy and he's a hard guy to stop
out there.

Eight twelve and counting left to go here in the
first quarter, no score, but it's second and goal from
the one yard line here for the undefeated Boyceville Bulldogs.
Carson rome hild Is under center, hands it to hell
and Drunk again. Helen Drung is not touched before he
crosses the goal line, as that is a boyce Phil touchdown.

Zach Helen Drunk gets lucky number twelve and it's six.
Nothing looks like we may have a flag there and
uh it will go against boyce pvil so I take
it back. Boyceville will have to back up and we
are still scoreless seven to fifty nine left to go.

On the first man, and they gave him a chop
block on that one, so it's gonna back them up
almost fifteen yards on that play. That is a that
a penalty that you don't really see called often on
the goal line there, but if they go low, they're
gonna call him.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
And Helen Drug, the running back really didn't even need
that block. I mean it looked like he was gonna
get into the goal line, get into the end zone
rather no matter what he did.

Yeah, and because they got the five yards, it's only
gonna back him up a little bit more. So it'll
be second and eleven, but still a long shot from
what they saw at second and one on the goal line.

Second and goal now from the eleven is now the
playbook for Boysville has to expand a little bit. They're
gonna put their quarterback, Carson rome Hild in the shotgun
seventeen and eighty five yards through the airs. They send
Helen Drug in motion that snaps over rome hilts head.
He's back in about the thirty and he is sacked
taking down. Is that on that sack was Cody Mullin Moleen,

excuse me as Maleen the senior with a big, big
sack and now it is third and forever.

And that'll be Maleene's fourth sack on the season two.

He's a hard rusher and especially when you have a
ball snapped almost felt like fifty feet over rome Hill ten.
He's a big guy. That's a hard target to miss.
So just showing how that rain is affecting the handling
of the ball down there, because that is the second
center to throw the ball over and other player's had.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
And neither particularly close. I mean Boyceville, they were second
in goal at the one, now their third and goal
at the thirty four yard line. Carson rome Hill though
an exceptional passer here for Boysville. He's back in the shotgun,
looking deep, throwing to the end zone incomplete, knocked away, intercepted, No,

it is intercepted, and it looks like that is Trenton Prosca,
excuse me as Krosca able to just play center field
under that deep ball. Both of these teams trading blows
early in the first.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
In yeah, and it's been a defensive onslaught from both
of these teams too, and that's the thing that's kind
of what we expected from these two teams coming into this,
especially with the forty two to twenty one win that
pepin Alma got last week, with how good their defense
has been. But now Boysfil's got to come back and
you had it at the goal line. But remember things
change just like that. You can never expect the expect

the unexpected, especially when you got rain come down like this.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Peppen Alma's got it first and ten backed up at
their own seven as Prosco. Their quarterback is under center
once again. It is a handoff and up to about
the ten yard line before he has stopped. Gain of
three is the ball carrier and it looks like that
one was Bergman.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Yeah, and they're gonna have to keep a watch on
Bergman too, because he is absolutely one of the more
prolific runners that we've seen, especially in Division seven, and
especially with some great blocking, he can go. But so
far Boys fails kind of clamped down on the gaps
and hasn't allowed any three runs from him.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Second down and seven ball right at the ten yard
line here for pepin Alma Prosco under center. No widers
information as this ball is handed off once again, they
keep it on the ground and Bergman, maybe just a
yard up to the eleven yard line, brings up a long.

Third down, and I believe that was anderton In on
that tackle. And he's had a great seasons two as
a defender. He's been He's only a sophomore, only a sophomore,
and has been able to really make a mark on
this defense. He's one of the better players that they
have out there as at just a young age.

Third and six from their own eleven. Here is Pepin
Alma able to break the huddle five nineteen and counting
left to go in this first quarter, no score as
the two seed meets the three seed. Here in level two,
back to pass is Kraska pros complete over the middle
and that should be a first down because that one

goes to That is Eli Krousey on the reception, Crowsy
the junior tight end, and he's up to about the
twenty three yard line. First down.

Peppinall yeah, And I mean we talked about Pepin only
having two passes total in that last game, completing both
of them for seventy three yards and two touchdowns. But
they don't throw the ball very often that time. Just
kind of cough voice, ball off guard on defense.

for Peppin Alma. The Eagles come out with two backs
in the backfield here behind Kroska. It'll be a handoff
once again. That's Bergman. Bergman running to the far sideline.
He may be gone roun h'll de beat. He's at

ahead of the thirty at the thirty two. A big

run for Justin Bergman. And now you can see how
he got close to two thousand yards this season.

Lose track of him for just a second, he's gone
like a bolt lightning. And that's just the way he
did there, all the way down to the thirty four
yard line of boys villain. Things change just like that.
But the more and more you run that ball, and
the more and more that's given up, it's gonna be
a hard tame. It's gonna be a hard time clamping
back down on that running game.

at the end of the play. As mcquisten on the
carry gets a game of about nine. They might call

on some more yards to that run from Cole mcquisten.
As this Pep and all the team, they're really moving
here on offense. They are threatening as with four to
twenty nine left to go here in this first quarter,
they will have the ball inside of the twenty yard
line in the red zone.

Thing that's haunted them before is these penalties, and especially
in last game they had a lot of penalties and
has carried over already two in this one first.

Alma Prosca under center once again two wide receivers on
the near side. Instead, they handed to Bergmann, pushing the
pile forward and Bergman gets up to about the ten
gain of three second down.

And this is Boysfol's time to shine here show off
what that goal line defense can do. We know that
they've been able to get stops like this in the past,
but especially with Bergmann back there, it's gonna make it
a lot more challenging, especially with another wild card like
own post out there too that could easily take off
the top of a defense on an end round.

Game of four officiallys second and six from the nine,
three forty three and counting left to go here in
this first quarter, no score is prosca under center, two
backs in the backfield, as it looks like that's Bergmann
plowing through. He has stopped a minimal game there for
Justin Bergman brings up a big third down here.

Yeah, and Bo Dawson getting in on that tackle. He
had three sacks in that last game, three of the
twelve sacks total for boys Vote against that Webster team.

Boysville's defense has been great all year. They need to

line as Pepinalma trying to break this scoreless time in
the first quarter. He'll be a handoff fake to Bergman.
It goes around the outside and no game that time
for Owen post as he may have lost the yard
back to the ten. And now that brings up I

think they're gonna call it fourth and six and now
it's decision time for pepin Aalma. Do you trust your kicker?

Yeah, And that's the thing.

It's like, you want to get as much points against
this boysful team because you don't know, you don't know
how this game is gonna go, especially with how good
this defense is. Getting as many points as you can
is good. But that's the thing too, is you gotta
watch for the tricks as well. We saw some tricks
last game. This could be no different.

It will be their kicker out there as it looks
like that's Kevin Bauer. Bauer steps into it and that
one just inside the right, up right. It is good
there and that will give Pepenolma a three to nothing
lead to thirteen left to go on the first you're

Yeah, and we saw some great goal line defense from Boysvil.
That's kind of what we've expected from them, especially after
a massive thirty five yard.

And now as we see this kickoff, it's gonna be
interesting to see how this offense returns it.

Little squib kick bounces at the forty fielded about the
thirty seven by Andrew Ton, and here Boyceville will have
pretty good field position here as they try and at
the very least even the score, if not take a
lead here two thirteen left to go in the first and.

I wonder if they were concerned about potentially kicking it
to rome Hill back there with two extra blockers in
front of him, because, I mean, we've seen him return
two kicks this season. He's as well of a he's
as good of the quarterback as he is a safety,
as he is a kick return guy.

He's good to all across the board.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
But just at that time, just kicking a squib kick,
I mean, might have saved you a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
He can play on all three sides of the ball.
At Carson, rome Hill completed sixty five percent of his
passes so far this season. He comes out under center
as Boysville has it first and ten from their own
thirty seven yard line, two backs in the backfield, two
wide receivers on the near side. It's a pitch to
Zach Helen Drunk, and Helen Drunk gets a gain of
about three up to the forty before he is taken down.

Looks like Bergman on that stop.

And that toss got him a little bit of space there,
but not too much. The blocking kind of fell apart
and the edge got right to him and played the
boundary line and just couldn't get anything.

More than that. He's a big guy.

But if you can take him down or get him
to the out of bounds line, I mean out of
bounds is undefeated and tack line, you're not gonna You're
not gonna break attack a lot of bounds.

with a jumbo set Rome Hill to under center again
as they send a man in motion. Instead it is
a handoff. This time it goes to Tucker Linstrom, and
Tucker Linstrom is lucky if he gets back to the
line there, it'll be a long third down.

Maxicathers characters actually six foot four, two twenty five only
a junior. He's their starting center and a big defensive end.
That's a guy you can't leave un blocked out there.
That's kind of what they were hoping for. Maybe a
little chip blocking, maybe he'd be too slow to get
to Lindstrom. But great job by him filling that hole
because he just completely stuffed it.

as that was Jacoby Kershner on the catch. He's a

Pepin kind of went for that ball and missed the
tackle and that led to him recovering and getting the
first down. Kershner had two touchdowns in that last game,
trying to continue on his great playoff stretch.

Yeah, the rain is light, but it is certainly steady,
not letting up here anytime soon. As with thirty seconds

right at the midfield stripe, it's gonna be Rome hilled.
Rome Hild's gonna keep it. He fumbles the ball that
is falling on at the forty nine. Looks like he
got up to almost the forty six. That fumble went

looks like we'll have to wait until the next quarter.
I don't think they're gonna get a playoff as they
just now get into the huddle. But Boysville very lucky
to have that football back.

looked like all the front the front line there for
peppin Almond just kind of over pursued. Rome Hild saw
green Grass and he's got the first down. It's first
and ten from the thirty here, so rome Hild will
go under center. It's a jumbo set. They send Leslie
in motion as this handoff. Nope, it's a keeper for

rome Hill. Rome Hild does not have the blockers he
has hoped for. He gets back to the line, but
he is smothered by three or four white jerseys. That

Yeah, and they had something going there, but just three
missed blocks on that outside edge just allowed Pep and
Alma to just completely swarm him. If they would have
kept following their blocks like they were doing, especially in
that last one, it probably could have gone for at
least another first down, if not a little bit more.

Rome Hill do is under center. He'll fake the handoff,
roll out to his right. He's gonna run. He's got

was mcquisten on the far sideline, but it was over

He had him pretty covered well too. He had about
three interceptions so far in the season, one of them
going for a touchdown.

It was Helen Drung on their recovery. Not sure if

and they're definitely one of the harder teams to run

was a big running team coming into this ballgame. Each
of that stat after this snap here as once again
as a handoff, this time it goes to Cole mcquisten
and mcquistin gets a game of about one before he's
brought down. Bergman, their leading rusher, had eighteen hundred yards

round about there. Kroska, their quarterback six hundred and fifty yards.
That's nearly three times as many yards on the ground
as opposed to through the air here for pepin.

Al it's a big discrepancy and it shows you why
they've been so successful, especially when they have people stacking
the box, because they'll just keep running through you no
matter what. They power through.

Five minutes left in the first half. It's second and ten,
balls still at the thirty nine yard line. This ball
goes to Bergmann running to his left, pushes forward as
he is nearly to the thirty five. Looks like he's
dropped at about the thirty six and that will bring
up third and medium.

Yeah, and he almost got tackled in the backfield again,
but Bergman, doing what he does best, just broke through
that tackle and continued on. Didn't get very much after that,
but still a hard fought a couple of yards there
for him.

Third and seven, of course, once again Boyceville leaving peppin
Ala fourteen to three. But it's been a lot closer
than the scoreboard suggests.

Almah looking to avoid another punt here on third and
long back to pass his Krosca. That ball is tipped

it again. Andrew Ton out there making plays on the
defensive end, and they're on that voiceful side of the field.

came away with a pick there, to be honest, So.

Rome Hilden company take the field once again looking to
extend this bulldog lead. Rome hild will be under center

like the trust going for it the first time, but
the second time they should have gone for the field
goal there, especially with how good of a kicker they have.

Yeah, sometimes you got to risk it for the biscuit,
but that time, I mean, it's a hindsight's twenty twenty
and it's a lot easier to second guess from up
here in the booth rather than to, you know, make
these decisions for real. But a fourteen to three deficit

open up that half, it's going to be tough sledding
here for peppen.

the WIA Division seven high school football playoffs here between
the two seed undefeated Boysville Bulldogs and the three seed
nine and one Peppin al Eagles, No. Schwartz and dan
zones alongside you. Here as Boyceville leading Pep and Alma
by a score of fourteen to three at the half.

It's been a fun one so far.

Man, Yeah it has.

Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
And even though it's a fourteen to three lead, most
people are gonna look at that and say, oh, hey,
that is a pretty decent gap of margin there. But really,
Pep and Aalma has had chances to score. They've gotten
down to the goal line. They've gotten inside of the
red zone a couple of different times, including on that
last drive. That one they came away with no points,
but the drive before that one they only came away

with three points. So you got to give credit to
Boyceville's goal line defense because they haven't really allowed anything
happening in the red zone for this pepen Alma team,
and when they have, they've closed down really quickly on it.

So credit where credits do. But on the offensive side,
I mean, it's.

Been a run game for Boyceville so far, and there's
been some great passes from Rome Hill, but arguably he's
been a better runner on the ground.

Hey, he had that thirty yard touchdown run with his
legs running to the outside. Of course, they've both teams
have really kept the ball on the ground more often
than not, especially with this rain coming down.

Yeah, and you don't want to throw the ball, and
especially with some of the receivers out there, a lot
of them aren't really haven't really had that kind of
experience with these rain games. I mean, obviously boys Will
had that rain game earlier in the season that we
was actually our introduction to this Boys Felt team. But
it is really a struggle to really get a good
grip on the ball, especially throwing the ball and even

(01:11:28):
catching the ball. And we saw it twice now, two
snaps from both from both teams actually go about thirty
yards over the quarterback's head, over the punter's head and
has caused some mishaps for both teams. I mean they
had it first in goal and then had a snap
go all the way behind Carson Romhild and they were
basically backed up to nearly the fifty yard line on
a third and goal situation. So you're trying to keep

(01:11:52):
the ball on the ground just to limit those kinds
of errors from happening. And so far ever since they've
kind of switched more to a run heavy for both teams,
he's seen less of those less of those tiki taky airs,
less of those miscups, less of those mistakes, but still
penalties for both teams have been a big factor in
this game.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
And playing the field position game. To be certain, you
touched on those two bad snaps in the first quarter,
one for both teams. Morris Pepeno also having two punts
blocked in that first half as Boysville's special teams really
doing a good job there. It just goes to prove
the old saying special players make special plays on special two.

Yes they do.

No, I guess they do. And we've seen that quite
a bit so far this game.

his three to nothing Pepin Alma for a good chunk
of this game, but then roaring right back into it
was this Boysville Bulldog team, and man did they really
get back into it. Especially on the defensive side of
the ball. It felt like I felt like Pepen Alma
was gonna be able to do whatever they want. But

I mean, for how big of the guys they have
up front in Peppin Alma and their defensive tackles, their
edges haven't really been set for most of this night,
so they've been allowing rome Hill to just escape outside
the pocket. And when you allow such a dynamic guy
to escape like that, a guy that's willing to put
his shoulder into you full speed ahead, that's just not
a recipe for success.

still haven't allowed more than twelve points in a game,

But that's the thing.

They came out in the second quarter and played great defense,
excellent defense, got a turnover on special teams with that

before got a massive touchdown on a twenty five plus
yard run.

But then after that they had a chance, did Pep

Like this, and especially you know what, it was a
close game at that point. You had an opportunity to
make it a one score game and boy hold up
the ball too, Yeah, and you know that you're giving
up the ball heading into that third quarter. Taking the
points was really it's easy for us to sit up

say that, oh, yeah, you know you should have done
this right, you're pepping on up.

a sluggish start to that first half.

foot on the gas pedal. And they could have easily
just let up and said, Okay, we're gonna play conservative

fourth quarter, which is where he wanted. But they could
have easily said, okay, we're up twenty eight to three
right now, we can go conservative. We can do dink

and dunk passes, we can do a little bit of
running up the middle and all that.

But no, they did.

Everything in their power. And Carson rome Hill I big
credit to him. He took some major hits in this game.
He's definitely gonna need some ice after this one for
a couple of those, but he has absolutely led this
team so far and so forth putting his body out

team and really trying to put that physicality out there
