Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here on the q one Zoo community microphone. We've got
somebody who is really going to help change your life
right now, no pressure. Sam sam Iiden is with a
Winchester Eda and he's going to tell us about the
Employer Expo Community Job Fair. Tell us about this.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
It's a mouthful, but hopefully it lives up to its name.
So the Employer Expo Community Job Fair is really more
than just a job fair. It's a community wide event.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Right.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
So with this event, we're going to have nearly eighty
employers come to Shennanda University. Wide range of jobs available,
you know, full time, part time jobs, jobs for youth,
second chance employment. But you know within those types of
jobs all different kinds of categories. We're going to have
construction jobs, movie theater jobs, nurses, all those sorts of things. Okay,
but beyond employment, you know, one of the big things
(00:44):
is that we're giving a lot of access to community
resources here, so you can come by and if you
need help with federal benefits, if you need help with
job readiness. You need to get your work readiness skills
up to snuff. We got workshops for you. Oh wow,
So we're really trying to pull in as many resources
from the community as possible and create a one stop
shop for folks to kind of get job ready, all
(01:05):
in one place.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Well, I love that. So how many employers would be there?
About eighty this year? Oh my gosh, it's May fifteenth
from one to five at the Wilkins Event Center at
SU which is super easy to get to. It's that
giant brick building on eighty one. You can't miss it.
So look, eighty employers, give me some of the ideas
(01:26):
of the things that the city will help with. You
were just saying that there were a bunch of different.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Were absolutely, so. Some of the things that the resources
at the city is going to have, they are available.
Some information about when ready the city's transportation program, which
is outstanding to explain what that is, sure, so when ready?
The City of Winchester a few years back went to
a micro transit system and so introduced a program that
allows you almost like an uber but run by the city,
(01:51):
where you can using an app from the city, you
can go to point A to point B. You know,
you put in your address where you are, where you
want to go, and the city will take you there
as long as it's within the same limits.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
And this has been an outstanding program that has really
really like people are yeah, thumbs up.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
It's a very exciting program.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
All right, So what else will there be?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Sure? So, in terms of other kinds of resources available,
We're going to have DSS their Department of Social Services.
They're going to assist with your federal benefits, some childcare questions.
We're gonna have DARS there for Disability Employment Assistance sing
Clear Community Health Clinic if you wanted some questions about
how to access healthcare in the city. And then you know,
other fantastic resources like Virginia Works, Warwich Community College. I mean,
I can go on and on about the resources.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
This is fantastic. So what kind of employers you said,
there's a wide range.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yes, absolutely, so we tried to get employers of all
types of jobs. You know, everybody can find work here
at this event. So you know, we have your more
traditional entry level jobs requiring no experience. We have those
that require specific certifications, think like your nurses, your firefighters.
So we try to pull from a wide range to
represent how the diverse range of skills in our community.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Okay, again, gang want you to come out. It is
May fifteenth, from one to five at the Wilkins Event
Center su anything else we need to cover.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Really absolutely So in addition to the employers, in addition
to the resources, we're also doing on site workshops. So
those workshops are going to be ministered by Navy Federal
Credit Union. So we're going to have one of those
is going to be a best Practices for job Seekers workshop,
the other is going to be mock interviews.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Oh my gosh, this is so important.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
And so with these two events or with these two workshops,
what we're doing is we also have four one thousand
dollars scholarships that we're offering for educate continuing education. So
if you complete both of these on site workshops, your
name gets added to a draw and you could win
one thousand dollars to go put towards World Ridge, Enad University,
any of these great educational institutions in the state.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Well, I'm glad we added that the lead. But holy smoke,
so much for you to find out about. Is there
a website where they can go to?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Sure, the employerexpo dot com.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Everybody get that, the employerexpo dot com.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
That's going to have a full list of employers it's
going to have information about the resources available with the
workshops and the scholarships.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
So look, we will put a link to that at
chrisinlaurishow dot com. If you forget it, just you know
