(00:28):
is all tied up at two gamesapiece after the Clippers win Game four here
at Staples Center by a final scoreof one eighteen to one oh four over
the Utah Jazz. Welcome into ClippersTalk. I'm Adam Aslin to eight seven
seven five to zero eleven fifty eightseven seven five two zero eleven fifty is
the phone number. We'll get yourphone calls. We got postgame audio coming
(00:51):
up from coach t Lou plus JoeyLynn after a win, Clippers super fan
and analysts will be here. He'syour voice of the Eagles at Biola University.
I once went there, believe itor not. It was a long
time ago, but the Jesus Muralwas still up. No need for prayers
too much in this one from ClipperNation, as this team dominated from the
(01:15):
outset. Finally, it's what we'vebeen looking for, is what we've been
talking about. This Clippers team hadnot gotten off to good starts, to
say the least. In fact, our friends Justin Rousseau on Twitter had this
stat through ten games ten playoff gamescoming into tonight, the Clippers had been
(01:37):
outscored by forty eight points. Whenyou combine all the points they were outscored
by to start off games before theyscored, so they get get down by
eight, get down by ten,get down by eight again before they would
score in the first quarter. Thatall added up to down by forty eight
points to start off games through thefirst ten playoff games before the Clippers scored
(02:00):
a basket and guess what, theJazz made it fifty points tonight. But
it didn't take long for the Clippersto get things going in the first quarter.
After that, the Jazz took thequick two oh lead, but then
Kawhi Leonard hit a three pointer. He finished with thirty one points on nine
of nineteen shooting, hit three threesand oh guests who followed him Paul George
(02:23):
dropped another thirty piece. He hadthirty one back to back games. The
two one three connection has gone forsixty plus had sixty five in the Game
three victory, had sixty two tonightin this fourteen point when in Game four,
where the Clippers led by as manyas twenty nine in the first half,
(02:45):
they went into the locker room leadingby twenty four. Now, the
Utah Jazz were not going to goaway, and we knew that law of
averages would be in their favor eventuallybecause they're not going to stop taking three
pointers and if they get hot, look out they can come back on you
quickly. And after starting off justeight of twenty four from three in the
(03:06):
first half, they would go nineof eighteen from distance in the second half,
and at one point in the fourthquarter, the lead was down to
ten. But the player who leadseveryone in fourth quarter scoring in the playoffs
right now is Paul George, andhe would do so again. He would
help carry the Clippers down the stretch. With Kawhi Leonard on the bench the
(03:27):
last four and a half minutes,Paul George had nine of his thirty one
points in the fourth closing time.Semi Sonic was playing, and Paul George
helped close out this game for theClippers. Along with Marcus Morris, who
only had two points in the secondhalf after leading everyone with twenty two points
on the first half. But theywere big ones at the free throw line.
The Clippers needed them, and therewere a lot of guys that they
(03:51):
needed for a victory like this.I said postgame, this was like Patrick
Beverly's coming out party. The returnof Patrick Beverly to these playoffs, to
this season. Maybe you could sayNo. Eagles said it was the best
game he's played all season, andhow can you argue with that considering the
stakes here in the playoffs, consideringhow well he played Donovan Mitchell, And
(04:12):
it's not exactly that surprising because he'sbeen doing this for years. Against Spider
who went for thirty seven. Yes, but on nine of twenty six shooting,
he was just three of twelve inthe second half. And I want
to say, at least three ofPatrick Beverly's four playoff blocks in a playoff
game, that is a personal recordfor him, three of those were on
(04:35):
Donovan Mitchell. He was everywhere. He had a different level of energy we
haven't seen from him since he returnedfrom injury, which injury that's a good
question. There have been a fewof them. He's been dealing with it
all season long. It's almost likethe Cavalry arrived though, like it's a
postseason free agency pickup for the Clippersthat have Patrick Beverly playing again after he
(05:00):
really didn't play after the first twogames in the first round just because it
was a bad matchup for him againstthe bigger, stronger Luca don Chich.
But against Donovan Mitchell, it's beenworking and Pat Bev in twenty minutes,
while he only had two points,he had those four blocks. That's a
career high for him in the playoffs, and he just hounded Donovan Mitchell.
(05:21):
He was Peter Pan shadow. Hewas all over him. He was everywhere
defensively, and it's what we've alwaysseen from him. But you were wondering
can he get back to that levelof activity where he can play with that
passion and also that energy out there, and he was demonstrative at times.
(05:43):
He got into it on a jumpball situation where there was a tie up
with him and Donovan Mitchell, whoin the past has given Pat Bev credit
for the defense he plays on him. But it happened again tonight and maybe
if the Clippers can go on towin this series. I think Patrick Beverley
could turn out to be the biggestX factor in turning this series around for
(06:04):
the Clippers. He's been huge,he's been critical, But there have been
a lot of guys for this team, including Nicholas Batoum back in the starting
lineup for the second straight game.He started things off that relentless, suffocating,
smothering Clippers defense in that first quarterwhere they held the Utah Jazz at
just thirteen points. Well, NicolasBatoum had three steals in the first quarter,
(06:30):
just jumping passing lanes like he wasat Reid. He was incredible,
and playing small against Ruby Gobert hasworked for this Clippers team overall. They
went back to Aviza Zubos in Gametwo in the starting lineup. It's just
not as effective. And I've broughtthis up earlier too. This Clippers team
(06:50):
defensively looks even scrappier because they haveto be when they're going small. You
saw it in the Dallas Mavericks series. But guys been covering for one another,
have been playing five guys on astring much more often now in the
playoffs. We're seeing a surge fromthem defensively the last couple of games now,
(07:12):
first of all, holding the Jazzto one oh six in their last
victory in Game three Saturday night,I believe it was now holding them to
one oh four when Utah still hitseventeen three pointers. They shoot forty one
percent there, just about forty pointfive, same as the Clippers. They
only hit fifteen, but on lessattempts. But they've been stopping them everywhere
(07:35):
else. And it was really thesecond half where the Jazz got loose.
They cut that twenty four point leaddown to fourteen early in the third quarter,
but the Clippers responded with a runof their own to end the third.
They played some great basketball starting andfinishing quarters. You had that in
(07:56):
the first half. Where I believeit was the end of the second quarter
was at Reggie Jackson, who hada quiet game for his standards in the
playoffs, just four points, onlytook four shots in twenty nine minutes.
That's okay, though He's been averagingsixteen points per game coming into this one
on forty eight percent shooting from thefield and forty five percent shooting from three
(08:20):
in the playoffs. Where would thisteam be without Reggie Jackson? But they
ended and started quarters strong. Forthe most part, they weren't perfect,
but if you watch the end ofthat third quarters to get it from nineteen
to twenty one of Vizza Zoo Botshad a big tip in, had a
couple of dunks, offered one offa really nice pass from Paul George who
(08:41):
sucked in the defense who brought RudyGobert to him, leaving Avizza Zoo Bots
wide open for the alley oop throwdown. Paul George more than just a
score. Obviously, he's a greatdefender, but he's improved so much with
his passing. I know he's hadsome head scratching turnovers in the playoffs at
times. That's gonna come with theterritory. The ball has never been in
(09:03):
his hands to this level before. The usage rating has never been this high
where he's been expected to orchestrate theoffense at times. But he's done more
than a solid job in that area. But the end of the first half,
Patrick Beverley left his mark. Firsthe blocked Donovan Mitchell on a three
(09:26):
pointer. Oh and then he blockedhim on another one twice. One was
kind of a tips steel, theother one was a block from behind.
It looked like Mono Genoble on JamesHarden from a series from five years ago
in the first round between Houston andthe San Antonio Spurs, and it looked
like Pat was in his head alittle bit. For Donovan Mitchell to go
(09:48):
three of twelve in the second half, Yes he gets thirty seven, but
he shoots just nine of twenty six. Now he did get to the free
throw line, he had too much. He went thirteen of fifteen there.
But the Clippers overall, remember oneof our points of emphasis all season long,
(10:09):
an area they can improve in wasgetting to the line more and more,
and they have in the playoffs. But tonight they attempted thirty eight free
throws. Guys were just relentless. They were in attack mode. And I've
gone too long without talking about thepeak attack in this game, and it
(10:30):
was Kawhi Leonard with a huge throwdownin the second quarter on Derek Favors,
who Kawai did none. It wasan absolute spectacular, explosive highlight. We've
seen it all season long with moreof these dunks from Kauai, but this
(10:50):
may have been the best. Andthat's saying something because the DeAndre eight and
one I thought was gonna be toughto top. But I don't even know
if he touched the rim on thatone, and he kind of just threw
it down, throw it through thebasket like Blake Griffin did on Moscoff.
Okay, didn't get quite that high, but this dunk on Derek favors seeing
(11:11):
this live in person. Big brotherJake Warner and I hear at Staples Center.
Whenever there's a big play, wemake eye contact, look deep into
each other's eyes. We go tothis romantic place, our happy place,
happy gil Moore style whenever the Clippershave a big time play. And that
was the one tonight, an absolutetone center by Kauai. I think it
(11:33):
was with about a couple of minutesleft in the second quarter because Noah Eagle
and I that's the first thing wetalked about coming into the third quarter to
that dunk by Kawhi. Where isit rank this season? But a statement
win, a statement couple wins fromthis Clippers team to once again tie this
series up at two games apiece. They're going back to Utah for Game five
(11:56):
Wednesday night. Tip time is atseven pm and we'll have Clippers countdown for
you right back here starting at sixpm. All right, I promised we
would get to Bill and Whittier becausewe Bob in Whittier. That's what I
meant, because we missed him lasttime. Bob. How are you doing,
(12:16):
hey, mister Biolah boy, howare you on this beautiful, beautiful
league? Me? I'm inside, but it's still beautiful. I'm looking at
this Clippers, this Clippers court withthe La City theme here. Hey.
You know, a good game tonight, especially guy Paul George. You know,
this guy gets ridiculed by the nationalmedia for whatever reason. I mean,
(12:41):
he were all over this guy locallyand nationally for him to come through
the way he did the last twogames, especially the last game when him
and Collis really took control of thegame that was very important. And tonight
when it got a little dicey andit got down to like fourteen points because
you know they're playing with the league, the whole game was an easy watch
because of that. He hit acouple of a couple of shots when they
(13:03):
really needed at that kind of gigabiteasy feeling that they were going to beat
control and take this thing back toUtah hopefully and get it back here for
Teame six and a wild Friday night, Bob. I appreciate the phone call
and hopefully we'll talk to you Wednesdaynight after Game five. Two. But
back to back thirty one point gamesfrom Paul George, and as you mentioned,
(13:24):
he came through in the fourth quarterwith nine of his thirty one points
hit a big three pointer, hadone off the backboard on Rudy Gobert.
He just has been relentless all seasonlong. If you look at drives per
game, he's never attacked the basketmore than he has this season. But
the last three games now it's twentyseven points, thirty one, thirty one.
(13:46):
He hadn't had a thirty point gamein the playoffs until Game three Saturday,
and then he follows it up withanother one. So to see him
also attempt ten three pointers, heonly hit four. Great, it's forty
percent from distance. You'll take iteach and every time. Just get up
(14:09):
those threes. Because outside of theSplash Brothers was Steph Curry and Clay Thompson
get healthy, Clay, nobody hasbeen more efficient from that high of a
volume the last five years outside ofthose two, but Paul George, he's
been amazing he has to take thoseshots. And I thought in the second
(14:35):
quarter he hit a three pointer overtwo or three Utah Jazz players. That
just showed I don't care who's guardingme. I'm gonna get this up.
I'm gonna get to twenty shots tonight, and I'm gonna help this team win.
It's not being selfish. He andKawhi Leonard taking more shots is the
exact opposite. They are helping theteam more. They are putting more pressure
(15:00):
on the defense, which is thenleading to easier looks by their teammates.
But in similar fashion to what wesaw on the fourth quarter in Game three
where Paul George hit that three pointerin the corner. I'm Bogdanovich. That
(15:20):
shot just showed He's in a goodplace. He's in a groove right now,
as is this Clippers team. Thankyou, Zach. Keep me in
check. More Clipper stock coming upnext. We'll get back to your phone
calls. Eight seven seven five twozero eleven fifty eight seven seven five two
zero eleven fifty. We're taking youtill the top of the hour. Here.
(15:41):
Clippers win one eighteen to one onfour. This series is tied up
at two games. Apiece. I'mhapping Dayshaboo. All right, more Clippers
stock here on the Patriot Amlin fifty, which talk about the Clippers, the
LA Clippers, and the Utah Jazz. You're listening to playoff basketball on the
(16:02):
LA Clippers of visial Hoole's try toget some Leonard does straight away Leonard,
I get Tony Olcil. I thinkit was left Leonard to the word.
Ooh, Kawai Leonard a major poster. He just put direct fevers into the
earth quarner three on the fourth sidefor Joe Ingles quiets the crowd. But
(16:23):
Kawai Leonard with another ridiculous poster,a preposterous posterization, makes a sixty two
forty one just a burial here atStaples Center. Poor Derrick Favors, who
I like, and every good defenderis gonna get dumped on. You take
(16:44):
that risk when you enter the paint. It happens to everybody. Althose Ayby
got rudygo buried. I'm still waitingfor that on the stifle Tower. But
what an explosive play from Kawhi Leonardthat led to a keyboard mashing tweet from
me. Because sometimes there are justno words. I don't know. Petros
(17:06):
Pepaika has appreciated that tweet very much, but I think we'll get in that
tomorrow on the Petros and Money Show. I'm out of Moslin. You're listening
to Clippers stock post game after theywin by fourteen in Game four with a
final score one eighteen to one ohfour over the Utah Jazz, and this
series is tied up at two gamesapiece. What I really liked from Kawhi
(17:26):
Leonard was the energy, especially inthe first half where he had I want
to say it was yeah, nineteenof his thirty one points, including that
Dunk had all three of his threepointers in the first half, put up
nineteen field goal attempts, so acouple higher than he had been averaging during
(17:49):
the playoffs for the most part. But when the two on three connection gets
to sixty points or more, thatis a recipe for success for this Clippers
team. But Kawai and this one, whenever he had Jordan Clarkson on him,
he just demanded the ball. Hewent at guys. It wasn't just
Derek Favors. Remember he went atRudy Gobert multiple times in Game three and
(18:12):
got the better of him with someacrobatic layups. But he had a big
time block on Mokdanovich in this game, and now he was hobbling on that
right knee with about five and ahalf minutes left. Didn't play the last
four minutes and thirty five seconds.I believe in this game, and we'll
have an update for you from theclaw here. But I didn't mention Marcus
(18:37):
Morris, or at least not enoughin that first segment. He was my
player to watch for a reason.Noah and I were both eagle eide on
him. We were watching him cominginto this one because he was one for
sixteen from three through the first threegames of this series. After going seven
of nine from distance in Game sevento take out the Dallas Mavericks here at
(18:59):
Staples Center, and just felt likehe was due. And Noah brought up
a great point how he was ableto rest that last game. He only
played about twenty two minutes I believeit was, and he came out and
was a flamethrower. Started five offive from distance and hit two critical three
pointers at the end of the firsthalf to match Joe Ingalls. It was
(19:22):
a three point contest. They weregoing back and forth in the final minute
of the second quarter, and theClippers got up by twenty four, and
they needed to because there is noescape from this Utah Jazz team. With
the volume of threes, they willend up shooting and if they get hot,
they can come back on you ina hurry. But the Clippers were
good enough. Paul George helped putthem away. And let's get to we
(19:49):
got Kevin and Culver City. Kevin, what's up? You're on? Clippers?
Stop without of Maslin after they winGame four? How are you?
Kevin? Adam? How are youdoing? Brother? A great win?
Great great win. The series istied up at two games apiece. Once
again, the comeback clips. Youknow I have a few savings. I'm
(20:10):
gonna slow down because I know youwant to get it. He's gonna want
to get into some stuff that I'mgonna let you talk and I'm gonna shut
up. But Paul George must havebeen listening to my call and replay the
call. I said, be aggressive, go to the basket, shoot the
ball, Kawhi Leonard, be aggressive, go to the basket. The mid
range game has to take over thisseries, and boy has it has changed
(20:32):
the whole series. Paul George issix foot nine. Nobody can block his
shot. When he pulls up andshoots that three, it's a beautiful shot.
He's got the great ball handling togo to the basket. All he
has to do is let the gamecome to him and keep going to the
basket. Quinn Snyder is shaking inhis boosts because the Clippers stars Kawhi and
Paul George has finally said we're gonnawin this game on our back and the
(20:56):
Clippers will be holding Larry O'Brian Trophy. If Paul George and Kawhilaner keep this
up, staying aggressive, it makesthe whole team play aggressive. It opens
it up for Knard and Morris. That's what you have to do to beat
this team because the others they don'tknow what to do. When they see
Paul George going to the basket. He bails them out when he gives the
(21:18):
ball up. What do you think, Well, that's part of their offense.
I appreciate their phone call. Kevin. Sometimes he attacks of the basket
and gets to the free throw lineover and over again, even if he
doesn't get the bucket. Because hedid go nine of ten from the charity
striping this one, but touching thepaint and sprang it out. That is
what led the Clippers to leading theleague and having the fourth best three point
(21:41):
percentage of all time during the regularseason at forty one point one percent.
Tonight they go fifteen or thirty seven, that's forty point five percent. So
it does start with their aggressiveness. And these guys have known this, and
he talked about it after Game three. We gotta do whatever it takes to
win. And early this season, maybe a couple of months ago now,
(22:03):
there was a postgame interview with PaulGeorge where he revealed because he was probe
with the question, why have youbeen taking it to the basket more than
after this season, he kind oflaughed like, well, that's what we
have to do to win games. That is part of our offense. And
he inquires superstars, and they've beenmuch better this season getting to the basket
and finishing by the way, andhe's starting to get some of those calls
(22:26):
he didn't get in the regular season. Right now, let's go to Anthony
in Hollywood. Anthony, you're onClippers stop without am Austin. What's up?
Hey, what's up Austlin. Yeah, much more impressive today tonight,
I should say, came out thereand punched them in the mouth. That's
the way the Clippers got to play. Most say what it probably took in
(22:47):
not one if both games in Utah? Did progressive attack try to force Mitchell
to take Jack up as many shotsand being efficient. Even though he ended
up with numbers wise he had whatabout thirty seven? He still took a
lot and missed a lot of shots. So I think that's gonna be the
game play. But here's the differencethough, Now the Clippers can do it
(23:10):
at home here if they show themthese two games, can they do it
in Utah? It's a different elementsaltitude, That crowd is insane, it's
one of the best home team inthe leagues. Can they get a Morris?
We can. We know we're gonnaget out of the claw and maybe
even PG, but they need athird guy. Can they count on them
to get that consistently? Because they'vehad two leagues and unfortunately they came up
(23:32):
shortened both of those games. Sohow do you see they approached game five?
Specifically, the Game five winner normallywins the series. So what does
the Clippers gotta do to finish outthe game, Anthony, thank you for
the phone call. They have toplay with this defensive mindset from the outset.
They have to bring this same intensityearly on where guys were everywhere defensively
(23:55):
to start off this game, becausewhat it does is it takes a team
out of rhythm. You let ateam that can get as hot as the
Utah Jazz start knocking down shots fromthe opening tip, you're gonna have a
long night because even when you geta hand in their face, they're already
in rhythm. That's been a problemfor the Clippers. I think that's what's
(24:17):
led to some of these other worldlyshooting nights we've seen from the opposition in
the playoffs, whether it be Dallasor Utah, teams shooting well above their
averages on pull up threes against theClippers. I think it's because they're already
in rhythm. They're already in syncturn it off as soon as the game
starts. And I thought the Clippersdefensively played some of the best defense we've
(24:41):
seen all season long, especially inthat first quarter where they led by I
want to say nineteen at one point, but they were up seventeen and held
the Utah Jazz to thirteen points inthe first twelve minutes and made Utah uncomfortable
to say the least. Tages andwell, nuts, what's up here on?
Clippers? Stop with him? Awesome, Hey, what's up at him?
(25:03):
I had three points, but youjust said one of them. I
was thinking that first quarters that wasthe best defense I've seen. I mean,
they were rotating and it looked likethe Jazz were second guessing and when
every time they were passing, theClippers knew where it was coming, and
that really, you know, causedcaused a lot of trouble for them.
(25:26):
And then second it seems like whenPG and Kwai got it going, and
if Clippers have a couple of otherplayers that are scoring, they look pretty
like unbeatable. I think the Gamethree it was batmb and Reggie. In
this game it was Morris and Iknow Luke didn't get a lot of baskets,
but he he the ones that hemade really helped. Stretch the floor
(25:49):
and shout out to Luke because heis looking pitching to shoot. You can
see him just wanting the ball andas soon as he gets it, he
isn't the ones he misses are closeto going in. Yeah, he's been
much more aggressive. Thank you forthe phone called tageous Luke Nard. In
this game, he only played twelveminutes. You have to use him sparingly
(26:10):
because he's not an elite defender obviously, but he played twelve minutes. I
think that's about what he played inGame three two, got up five shots,
hit two three pointers. He looksridiculously confident in the playoffs. He
just looks clutch out there. Heis ready. He's a part of this
stay ready Clippers crew. We've seenit all season long from these guys.
(26:32):
But I do want to point outTerrence Man in fifteen minutes while going one
of five, was a plus fifteenout there. He led the Clippers in
the plus minus category. It's justimpressive. He's got some of that Patrick
Beverley. We've said it all seasonlong. There's a great mentorship going on
(26:52):
between those two. But it's greatto see, and Noah's talked about this
earlier in the pregame. You canstagger those two guys, or you can
have them both out there, butyou can always have someone to jump start
the team with energy. When youhave Pat Bev and Terrence Man and guys
like that. All right, we'lltake a quick break here. We'll come
back. We'll get to more ofyour phone calls, and Joey Lynn will
(27:14):
be here, Clippers super fan andanalyst, one of my favorites, not
just because he's from Biola University, but that doesn't hurt more Clippers stop coming
up right here on the Patriot AMLMfifty. This is the second round of
the NBA Playoffs. Kawhi Renard,I'm your official home of LA Clippers basketball.
(27:41):
Seventeen Clippers George with ten Clippers winone eighteen to one oh four here
at Staples Center in Game four. The series is tied up to two.
They're going to Utah Wednesday night forGame five tip time at seven pm.
We'll have Clippers out down for youis starting at six pm before we get
(28:02):
out tonight at night when the Clipperswin. I needed Joey Lynn. Follow
him at Joey l I n NUnderscore on Twitter. He's your voice of
the Eagles at Biola University. Youalso check out his YouTube channel. He
does great deep dies clips. Convosis the name of it. We got
(28:25):
kind of another Eagle here. Ian eagle. Noah Eagle here tonight,
Birds of a feather flock together.I'm a Biola Eagle. So is Joey
Lynn. Joey, thanks for doingthis. Let's get right into it and
talk about your guy Patrick Beverly, because you were on the forefront of having
Patrick Beverly used heavily in this seriesand it is paid off the last two
(28:48):
games. Adam well, as always, your intros are the best. I've
said that to you before, butyou always kill it when introducing me,
especially when talking about Biola, SoI just wanted to shout you out again
for that. But going on toPat Bev ad him, as you mentioned,
I definitely did advocate for giving himbig minutes coming into this series.
(29:08):
As you said, I do havea YouTube and before each playoff series I
give a little bit of a previewon their opponent and also how I think
the Clippers should attack that oppony. And I said, as great as Reggie
Jackson has been, obviously don't wanthim going to the bench because he's been
their best offensive guard in the playoffs, but you need to have Pat Bev
(29:30):
out there for the majority of theminutes that Donovan Mitchell is out there,
and if you're not going to havehim on Donovan Mitchell, you gotta have
him on Jordan Clarkson. He sawtime on both of those guys here today
and looked absolutely fantastic. He hadfour blocks that led the game, more
than Rudy Gobert, more than Derek'sfavor Is, more than Big Zoo.
He had four blocks, and Ibelieve three of those came where he fought
(29:53):
over the top of a screen, came behind Donovan Mitchell and got his hand
on his shot and either b otherdid it or actually blocked it. So
he has been absolutely everything I expectedfrom him. Anything he gives you on
offense is gravy. He knocked downhis only shot and he took one of
them here today. But it's allabout the defense. And you could tell
Mitchell obviously got his with thirty seven, but he only shot thirty four percent
(30:17):
from the field at thirty seven pointson twenty six shots. He shot fifteen
free throws. But you could sellwhen Pat bed was out there. Both
he and Jordan Clarkson, two guyswho have pretty much gotten whatever they wanted
all series long, certainly looked forthe first time in this series extremely uncomfortable
when Pat bed was out there.Joey, we've seen the two on three
connection Kawhi Leonard and Paul George gofor sixty plus in the last two games
(30:41):
now, and we're not exactly reinventingthe wheels saying this, but all of
a sudden, it's like, ohyeah, if these two guys put up
twenty shots each at least per night, this Clippers team is darn near unbeatable.
And that's how they've looked the pastcouple of games. Is this the
recipe for success? Is this theformula? Finally, I'm really glad you
(31:03):
brought that up, because that's somethingI really wanted to talk about. I
was even thinking about making a videojust on this specific topic, because as
we have seen throughout the playoffs, whether it's been Kevin Durant with the Brooklyn
Nets, Chris Paul and Devin Bookerwith the Phoenix Suns, Donovan Mitchell here
with the Jazz Luca with the MAVs, the star players have gone out every
(31:25):
single night and said, I'm thestar. We are going to live and
die with the shots that I'm gonnatake. We've seen that from the Clippers
sparingly but we have not seen ityet on a consistent basis until these last
two games. And as I tweetedout when I was watching the Brooklyn Nets
a couple of days ago, Isaid, watching Kevin Durant makes me wish
(31:45):
that Paul George would just shoot more, because, as I mentioned on Twitter,
obviously Paul George is not KD.But he is a guy who is
six foot nine with elite handles andwith one of the best three point shooting
strokes in the entire NBA. Soif he just continues to get the ball
in the air, the shots willeventually fall and you will get those thirty
(32:06):
point performances like we seen those lasttwo games. Like, for example,
ten threes, he was four orten, that's forty percent. You can
pretty much pencil him in for that. If he takes that many threes,
I could probably even argue that heshould take a few more. But as
you said, Adam, if bothKawai and Peg are gonna shoot twenty plus
times, you can almost pencil ina Clippers win if they play to their
(32:29):
averages or above. And that's whatwe saw in these past two games.
Kawai and PG went out and theywere aggressive, looking for their own and
I really think it's especially gonna beimportant for Paul George because he is such
a rhythm player that once he getshot, you can kind of see him
playing with that swag, with thatfreedom, with that confidence, and that's
(32:50):
when he starts to just let itfly and he can catch fire like nobody
else in the league. So Ireally hope, as I tweeted out after
Game three, that this stretch ofplay from Paul George is the start of
his confidence starting to extend, whichwill coincide with his points going up,
and obviously the Clippers chance of winninga championship going up. Being selfish is
(33:10):
the new unselfish because it still makeseverybody else better around those two when they're
taking more shots. He pulled upfrom three in transition, I want to
say, in the first half, and even though there were guys running the
floor next to him, I lovedit. I loved seeing that confidence from
Paul George, even though he missedthat shot. But Game five is coming
(33:30):
up on Wednesday night. Joey, what do you think the biggest key is
still for the Clippers to pull offwell making history coming back again down two
Oho in this series, how didthey have to do it now? Well,
Adam, the easy answer is tosay, just do what you did
in Games three and four, Butwe know that going into that hostile environment
in Utah, they have a packedThey have a packed house, and they
(33:52):
have really passionate and loud fans, and we saw it in games one and
two. They have a very realhome court advant He's probably one of the
best in the league. So,as I said, it'd be an easy
answer to just say, do whatyou did in Games three and four,
but it was going to be acompletely different environment. So to answer your
question, I believe the most importantthing is going to be the confidence that
you talked about, because when Paul, George and Kawhi are leading the way,
(34:15):
Adam, you hit it right onthe head. That's infectious. That
trickles down to the rest of therosters. Did you see the way that
Luke Kenard was playing out there today? He only had eight points, but
his confidence was perhaps the highest I'veever seen it since he put on a
Clippers jersey. He was pulling upin traffic, he was hitting step backs
from the mid range. He wasdoing it all out there, and I
(34:36):
felt the same with Marcus Morris. It wasn't just wide open threes that Marcus
Morris was hitting. He was goingto work in the mid range early in
the game. He was doing differenttypes of things that you maybe wouldn't see
him do previously. Joey I loveyou. You know that he's at Joey
Lynn with two ends and an underscoreat the end. I didn't mean to
play him out. We have toget out, though, gonna pay the
(34:59):
bills. I'll get to Joy inthe DM here apologizze Clippers not gonna apologize
for the one eighteen to one ohfour victory in Game four. Series is
tied up at two games apiece. Before we get out of here, I
do want to thank the Clippers organization, Noah Eagle, Bryant Steeman, Ralph
Lawlor, big Brother, Jake ourhead engineer here at Staples Center, and
Zach L. Colney back in Burbankuntil Wednesday night for Game five in Utah.
