On this Sunday morning, we are in the community, empowering
our community. It is Community Service Month. So today I
have Troy mcneer here from Think Bold Festival and conference.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Troy, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Oh wow, I'm doing it fantastic. I appreciate you giving
us some love. Me and Moe and so you know,
I'm just doing great.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
We're here to support a drive that empowers and so
you know, Think Bold has come to the community and
has grown. So first off, tell us a little something
about yourself and how you came to be the visionary
for this.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Well, and I don't want to take all the credit credits.
Definitely was my business partner, Maurice Henderson, him being in
the music industry. I was in the music industry. And
you know, we've talked about doing something in the city
that looks like this city, similar to conferences in Austin,
Texas and Atlanta, and we really wanted to focus and

(01:07):
do something here dealing with workforce development and entrepreneurship and innovation,
and so right around COVID pre COVID, we came up
with Think Bold and started mapping it out and a
couple of years later, here we are going into our
third year.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Community Shawnee speaking to Troy mcneir here with Think Bold.
It has expanded, ready to empower our community, exciting new additions.
Troy and I know that the community is ready to
just be a part of this. It's now four days,
so talk to us about the expansion and what the
community can expect with those expansions.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
We had to ten exit again, and so the first
thing we said, you know, we wanted to make sure
we get some anchors, some individuals that are strong entrepreneurship
and business. So you know, we we we we called
farm Weaver again, CEO and founder of entpreneurs who has

(02:08):
hit a billion dollar valuations. She's actually she's a unicorn. Right.
Here's a woman, especially in an incredible challenging industry, the
spirits industry. Here she is. And then also you know
uh Pinky col Hayes, uh Freddy Vegan restaurant and and franchises,
and uh bar Vegan to who hit one hundred million

(02:33):
dollars evaluations. So she's coming in now. They're doing five
side checks, they're doing book signing, they're they're just talking
to you like your aunties or your nieces and uh.
And then we went into some space for real estate
where we're gonna do something at the Jacksonville Chamber, Uh,
the kids Zone where we actually have this company out

(02:54):
of Los Angeles coming out so young people can reimagine
how to develop sneakers and so we just got a
hostess incredible opportunities for everyone community.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Shawnee speaking to Troy McNear Troy. I'm looking at the
website and I see that you have some amazing keynote speakers.
Talk to us about those keynote speakers. I see that
you have a very own Little Duval as a keynote.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Speaker as wellsh Oh, my gosh, little Douval. I mean,
if he's not, you know, a brand ambassador of the
city of Jacksonville, I don't know who is, you know.
But the great thing about little Duval take just outside
of an extraordinary comedian. I mean, you're talking about a
young man who's an entrepreneur who's hiring people. But then

(03:42):
the other thing is he's actually a pilot, you know.
So I mean, how many folks that you can really
cat that fly their own planes. So that's inspiring enough
to let young people know you can dream and you
could do whatever you want to do young people in adults.
So we're just excited about him just you know, having

(04:04):
fun but also being very serious about things. You know.
We you know again, we're so excited to collaborate with
Wealth Watchers again Carrie Davis and extraordinary things they're doing
for affordable housing and wealth management and the state planning,
and the list goes on and on, and then Jim Stalling,

(04:25):
which I'm super super excited PS twenty seven, you know
a VC organization those we are looking for funding for
their startup business. I mean PAS twenty seven you can't
get any bigger. I mean, they've just millions of dollars
and startups right here in the city of Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Community Shawnee speaking to Troy McNair think Bold Festival and
Conference is here with a plethora of things to do.
I'm also looking at the website and I'm seeing some
Bold bites, Troy, what's that all about?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yes, our kickoff which our partner presenting partners, Vistar, and
they've been amazing supporting us from day one. But they
truly uh believed in our vision and in it aligned
with their with their vision and they just stepped to
the plate in a super dupe a way to make

(05:16):
things affordable for anyone to buy a ticket. But the
bull bikes. We actually have that Vice Star and it's
some of the UH top culinary chefs here in the
city of Jacksonville that will be whipping up some incredible
UH dishes along with light music and and just the

(05:36):
whole nine. So that's usually our kickoff that we do
at Vice Star and we're just excited about it. And
that's the bowl bite. Some great chefs there.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Well, they're gonna tickle your tummy. Community.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
It's all about think bold community coming to the city, Troy, Uh,
talk to us.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
We are the bold City.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
So I love the title and this is something that
has grown to ford days. So tell the community the
dates and the times of the events, and then we'll
talk about who you will be honoring.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Yeah, so the event you can say, it really kicks
off April tenth. We have some small mixers and we
have some coffee mixes for those who maybe don't participate
in different beverages and stuff. And then April eleventh, which
is Friday, we have a real estate Summit, which will

(06:31):
be at the Jacksonville Chamber and we're super excited about
that collaboration with f cart here in the city of Jacksonville.
And then that evening will we have to sink Boat
after Dogs, So some incredible partners and venues, the Pillars Club,
Real Thing, the Grand and Doge Bistro, and a couple

(06:54):
other venues will be on Adam Street, so we're gonna
really just have the whole blo popping. And then Saturday, Saturday,
April twelfth, is actually the conference at the High Hotel
and that's where you see all the keynote speakers, all
the different activations for young people and students, and the
whole nine yards. And then the highlight will be farng

(07:18):
Weaver the Far Side Chat that she'll be doing at
Morton's Steakhouse, and so that's gonna be incredible. What's a
book signing, so Love and Whiskey her book so a bestseller,
and that's gonna be the finale, and then and then
it's just kind.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Of get some rest community.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Shawne speaking to Troy mcnehir here from I Think Bowl
Festival and Conference expanding four days now that it's been
in the city and as you can see, it's going
to be an amazing event. Troy, tell us the website
so that the community can get on there, get those
tickets and be a part of some phenomenal endeavors. I'm

(07:58):
going to say that because you have some power for
people that will be in the building, for the community
to just be able to connect with.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
So what's the website.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Yeah, the website is sink bowl fest dot com, Thinkbothfest
dot com and just go through there. You see all
the different keynotes, different fire side chats, masterclasses and everything
going on. And then you'll see we have tickets as
low as forty nine dollars. I believe in I believe

(08:30):
if you use a code bowl bo l D for
the general mission, you even get a farther discount. So
Thinkbodfest dot com.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
And Troy, I understand that you will be honoring some
of our community advocates in the city. Talk to us
about a few people that you will be honoring at
the Think Bowl conference next weekend.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah. So we partner with not only Vasta, but we've
actually partnered with Mark Blanc, the the high end luxury
line which they've actually developed a well curerated a Saint
Bowl Festival mont Blanc writing instrument. So all our honorees

(09:15):
will actually receive one of those special unique on writing instruments.
And you heard I say it's not called it Penn,
it's a writing instrument. Yes, so, but we'll be having
that at the by Star. And then like we're honoring
Patty who's one executive a by Star again, carry Davis

(09:41):
Numa who's the president of the Shorted Theaters. Incredible guy,
and all the work they're doing with me, which is
one of the vps of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the
and the list goes on and on and on.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Community.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Speaking to troyman Near on the phone with me today,
I highlight and allowing the community to understand that Think
Bold Festival and Conference is in the city. Plethora of
things to do, amazing for a day event. And I
understand we are highlighting G Whiz as well, right Troy.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Absolutely, So we have a special event that we're going
to do that April eleven for G Whiz, you know,
just the body of work that he's done here for
the community, for radio, an innovator in his own right.
I'm just destroying they young man, and so Matt Block
has actually made him a customized writing instrument also, and

(10:36):
so we're excited to present that to him April eleventh.
And so we're just excited now we know we're honoring
a lot of great stakeholders in our city in Jacksonville.
And that's truly what thing bould is about. It's not
about mo Or Troy. Is really about the special people

(10:57):
that is moving the city and making things count every
day here in Jacksonville community.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Johnnie speaking to Troy McNair Think bowld Festival and Conference
in the city. Troy, I want to thank you for
doing your due diligence it is community service a month
and bringing it to our city and understanding the trailblazers
that you will be building in this city. So thank
you so much for your time. And I know that
after all of this you will understand that just waking

(11:26):
up as I saw you on TV talking to Melanie,
just waking up as a bold statement. So every day
community wake up and understand that the world is out
there for you to grasp. You just have to think
bold and see what's next next weekend at Think Bowl
Festival and Conference, Right, Troy.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Right, make every day count, make every day count be bold.
Were's just exciting. We hope to see everybody April eleventh
and twelve, the whole city come out.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Please community Shawne speaking to Troy McNair Think Bold Conference
festival in the city allowing you to expand your horizon
and think bold and out the box.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Thank you Joy so much for your time.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Thank you very much, and you have a great day.
And I appreciate everything you do because you're a bold thinker.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
And we're back with community Viewpoints. Shawnnie speaking to Nicki Sparrow.
And Nicki is here because this month is all about
community service and as she is growing with iHeart, she
is also pouring into our community. So today I have
the privilege of speaking to the Nikky Sparrow.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Good morning, Nikki, how are you?

Speaker 5 (12:37):
Good morning, Shawnie. Thank you for having.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Me, you know, wanting to highlight just what you are
doing as a part of our community service because you
drive most of the passion that I have, and I
think a lot of the people that you work with
when it comes to community. So I wanted to get
you back in the studio to talk about you know
you and just growing. So tell us a little snippet
about the growth that's been going on, because you have

(13:01):
a plethora of accolades, but what have you been up
to lately?

Speaker 5 (13:06):
Look, I feel blessed and holly favored. So I think
since the last time we've talked, I've actually been promoted
to the EVP of Multicultural Sales for all of iHeart.
I just came back from DC. I was actually honored
from the US Chamber as recognized as one of twenty
twenty five Distinguished Women of Year. It was fifty of

(13:27):
us that was actually recognized. So definitely stand busy and
you know, travel around talking to marketers and everything else.
But I equally still feel like it's important to give
back to your community.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
And it is because a community that grows blesses everyone
and that also helps sales. Right, So absolutely, I know
that with this role, in your new role, you are
doing many things with radio, podcast, digital data, event planning,
the Black Effect Effect podcast that's happening in Atlanta. But

(13:59):
with all of that, you where do you find time
to give back and donate your time as being a
part of different roles. And that's why we're talking about
it today. The role that you play with the First
T Where do you find the time?

Speaker 5 (14:14):
Well, first of all, everybody have it. You just have
to prioritize things, right, But it's important that you get
back at home. So, no matter what I do and
all of these other cities and everything else, this is
where I sleep. This is where my grandbabies are, this
is where my husband is, this is where my loved
ones are. And so it's important that as I go
around and I'm doing these amazing things in these other

(14:35):
cities and other states, that I'm also making sure that
I feed and plants where I actually sleep.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
And that's what we need to do as community partners.
So Nikki, talk to us and tell us about what
you'll be doing with the First t of North Florida
and why it's important for us to understand the mission
statement behind that.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
So, yeah, we are celebrating our twentieth annual Taste of
Golf and it is one of our largest fundraisers. And
the most important thing about it, Sean, is like the
people that come, they're getting to get all this amazing
food because we have some of the top chefs from
the clubhouses from all around North Florida. And then it's

(15:20):
open bar. You got music, you got all these auction items.
But the best thing about it is all of the
money's raised actually stays here. It's for our kids in
North Florida.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
And Nikki, I know that this is near and dear
to your heart because we often have spoken about why
golf the game is good for us all to interact in,
but with first t tell us why you created this
is to build the strength of character and empower them
through life challenges. And that's why we're here today to

(15:51):
talk about those kids, but talk about the mission statement.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
What the kids get with this.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
Absolutely, And I'll just go back a little bit. When
I first got introduced to the first tea vactually wasn't
here in Florida. It was in when I was in Memphis, Tennessee,
and I was invited to a career day and talking
to those little young ladies about my career and just
seeing the excitement on their face and everything else was
absolutely It just touched me in a way because they

(16:19):
was like, oh my goodness, I didn't even know this
job existed. I didn't know I can do that and
everything else. And then as I was leaving, they was like, no,
come play golf with us. I had never touched a
golf club ever in my life, and these young ladies
took me out and they ranged from like ten to
fourteen years old, and they took me out on the
course and you could, of course, you can't teach somebody

(16:41):
in a day, but they actually helped me to get
over my nerves and one of the reasons why you
think about golf can be so mentally intimidating. And I
had these young ladies that were just being so gentle
with me, like just keep your head down, keep your
eye down, and everything else. So for me, and I
tell everybody, I fell in love with the first tea
not because of golf, but because of the kids and

(17:02):
the interaction that I had for the kids. So everybody
here me. My slogan is for the kids. But one
of the things that I learned as I started growing
up in my career is a lot of my male
mentors would tell me, Nicky, you need to learn how
to play golf. You need to learn how to play golf,
and it would take me back to the time that
I spent with these young ladies. And then what it
really came down to is as I grew into business,

(17:26):
and once I got into golf and I started taking
lessons and everything else. And I'm talking about later on
in life, but it opened up the door for me
to have four to five hours of uninterrupted time with
decision makers and CEOs and CFOs, and now I get
invited to all of these you know, corporate golf tournaments

(17:47):
and everything else, and you know, it has really advanced
my career. So I think now looking back, I wish
I would have gotten to golf a lot earlier. And
the fact that we are, you know, have our kids
all the North Florida. So you're talking about kids in Brentwood,
kids on the South Side, kids with the beach. You know,
kids that like the whole community, have the opportunity to

(18:10):
be a part of First Tea and to get this
exposure because if you don't have the resources, golf could
be very expensive. And that's why we do this farm
raiser because you know, it helps with the scholarships and
everything else. Because if a kid want to be want
to be a part of the First Tea, we didn't
We don't turn them down.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Coundy Shawnee speaking to Nikky Sparrow Moreland. She is here
to talk to us about the First Tea, North Florida,
building our community, our children with their youth development program,
and it surrounds us with golf. Golf is something that
I tried, Nikki, but you know, I just drove the
golf cart.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
Keep your head down, keep your eye on the ball.
And it's basically when you really think about it, and
like I know, when I first got into first Tea
and everything else, it was about the nine core values.
Are talking about integrity, and honesty and perseverance. These are
life lessons. This is bigger than golf and so but
even with us as adults, because like the program is

(19:09):
absolutely for kids, but even as adults, we still need
to learn these lessons. And you'll be surprised that you're
when you spend time with the kids that have gone
through the program, how advanced they are because of the
environment there that they're in and some of the lessons
that they've had to learn through the game of golf,
because golf is you have to be very disciplined and

(19:30):
you have to be able to shake things off because
if you get a bad hole, you know the next
hole you got to move on, and you just got
to keep going to the next hole and just shake
it off, and so it's just a lot of great
lessons and the biggest thing is we want to make
sure our kids get as much exposure as possible so
it can widen their array of things in life and

(19:51):
opportunities and access and everything else. And so just imagine
one of our kids on Brentwood, you know, getting a
golf scholarship and you know, next thing, you know, they
get into this to the business world and they get
to play with a CEO and everything else. Because if
you get good at it, you will get invites all
the time.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
You know, Nikki, I am looking at the website.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
I see your picture as you will be the host
of this year, but I see a lot of information.
So talk to us about where the community can find
and or donate to the cause and the dates of
the event for this spectacular event that you'll be hosting.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Yeah, so we would love for people to come, but
if you can't come, you can absolutely go to tasteogolf
dot com and donate, or you can even be on
the auctions and the auction is live. But the event
is actually Wednesday, April to twenty third at Tpcsawbrass Clubhouse,
So you know, absolutely beautiful view and it's from six

(20:50):
thirty to ten, and your tickets get you in. You
get to taste all of these amazing chefs, and you're
talking about private clubs that you typically can't go into,
and they are literally competing against one another, which we
all win. It's open bar, and then you get all
this other excitement, so great conversations, great music, you know,

(21:11):
great entertainment, and the auction items are absolutely amazing. But
tasogolf dot.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Com community Shawnee speaking to Nicky Sparrow Morland, She's here
to invite us to a spectacular event for a great cause.
This month, we are highlighting community service and as you
grow in life, many of us come back and donate
and or serve in our community.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Niki is doing just that.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
But we are always partying with a purpose, so please
be sure to check out the website. Be sure to
understand the mission statement. This is for the children, giving
them growth in a vision of difference and cultural difference
as well, because golf is different for our community and
it is also a sport that we need to get

(21:59):
involved so that we could be CEOs and we could
be share us like Nicky Sparrow, Nikki anything else that
you'd like to share to empower the young minds as
we move forward in life.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
Now, I would just say first, just like the game
of golf, I wish I would have got into it earlier.
But just one thing about it is is like face
your fears. And a lot of times we get into
our own heads and feel like we can't do something,
or we're gonna look like, you know, look like we
don't know what we're doing, or be embarrassed and everything else.
But you know, take a chance on yourself. You will

(22:32):
be surprised how when you actually fight through those fears,
you know what's on the other side of that and
what you actually achieve and then what you get exposure to.
And so I'm super excited to be a part of
the first Tea And you know, the mission is to
impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs
and building character, and you're talking about things that will

(22:54):
affect them for the lifetime. So I appreciate you, Shanny
love working. Like I always say, it's flit kids. So
please go to tasteogolf dot com and either buy tickets
or go on and being on some of those amazing
auction items.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Thank you so much, NICKI for always being on point
to empower the community, especially when it has to do
with the children. So thank you for being a visionary
and being so bold in everything that you do in life.
And thank you for being a visionary for the young
ladies that are watching keep growing. And congratulations on your

(23:28):
plethora of accolades, and of course I know you're going
to be doing so much more, so be sure to
tap back in with us so that we can enjoy
and clap for you as well.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
Thank you so much. I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (23:40):

we are empowering a community and enlightening you with some
women who are doing some fierce things in the community.
So today I have Amanda Scott. We're here from Broadway
and Jacksonville, presented by FSCJ Artists Series.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Amanda, how are you today?

Speaker 4 (24:01):
I'm doing so well.

Speaker 5 (24:02):
How about yourself?

Speaker 1 (24:03):
You know blessed that I could interact with so many
community advocates, people who are enjoying their jobs but empowering
a community. So if you would share yourself with the community,
tell us a little something or what you would like
to share about Amanda Scott.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and I made my
way to Jacksonville, and from there I worked with the
Alhambra here in Jacksonville, and now I'm working with Broadway
in Jacksonville with FSDJ Artist Series. I've always had a
theater background. I studied at Florida State University, so I

(24:44):
am a Florida girl, even though I'm not from Florida,
but very familiar with everything that we have going on here.
And you know, it's just wonderful to be able to
give this to the community, to experience such wonderful, inspiring
stories with our Broadway in Jacksonville series and everything else

(25:07):
that we present including concerts, opera, dance, comedy, and family productions.

Speaker 1 (25:13):

Mulan Rouge. The musical explores the lavish and sensual world
of parents and goes into the bohemian values of truth, beauty,
freedom and love. Then we have a Beautiful Noise, the

(26:28):
Neil Diamond Musical. It's an i'm uplifting and the untold
true story of rags to riches and into an American
icon and it's endorsed by Neil Diamond himself, which is
really fascinating. Beetlejuice is our final performance in the Broadway
in Jacksonville series, and it's a brilliant staging of Tim

(26:49):
Burton's dearly beloved film. There's hilarious antics, bizarre visuals, and
colorful lunacy and it's just screamingly good.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Fun speaking to Amanda Scott highlighting Women's History Month. Amanda
is here to share with us her passion as you
can hear in her voice. And what is going on
with FSCJ Artist Series, Amanda, How can the community get

It really captivates the audience on all levels. The choreography
is spectacular and the whole production just enveloped you. You know,
you sit in the in the in your seat and

(28:13):
listen to a montage of Michael Jackson's music and you're just,
you know, overwhelmed with how much talent one man had
and get to see his creative process. So it truly
is fascinating and really really inspiring, and you know, that's
what we love to be able to do for our community.

(28:34):
We are subscribers to the Broadway in Jacksonville series. Help
us to thrive and build a community. You know, that's
something that people look forward to living and working and playing.

business and that truly empowers the community because you know,

just amazing what we can do.

(29:30):
When I heard this, I was ready to do the moonwalk.
I was ready to find a jacket. I was ready
to represent and just be there just to you know,
ooz the excitement, but just also honor a man that
puts so much into the arts, puts so much into music,
and I know this is going to be something that
the community should see. So, community, if you want to

(29:53):
get out and just enjoy the arts, but see something phenomenal.
MJ the Musical is coming. Now what can the community expect?
I know it's going to be enlightening. Have you seen it, Amanda?

Speaker 3 (30:05):
I did.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Yeah. I got the opportunity to see it in New
York and it was my favorite show when I went there.
You know, it was just this past season and there
were so many wonderful productions. I mean, The Outsiders, kimber Lear, Canbo,
everything was spectacular. But MJ really locked me in. I

(30:27):
mean it was just electrifying and just from start to finish.
I was so curious about this man's creative process and
being able to see the story which has centered around
the nineteen ninety two Dangerous World Tour and the level

(30:49):
of talent in the show. It was spectacular. Hands down.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Well, community, we have something else to put on the
to do list. I understand that behind the scenes there
are Tony an Emmy Award artists that will be displaying
their talent. So it's coming to Jacksonville. It will be here, Amanda. Again,
the dates for the MJ the Musical.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
NJ Musical is April twenty seconds through the twenty.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Seventh, and one more time, how they can get tickets
or just see what's going on with FSCJ Artist Series.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
And Amanda, one more thing.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
You said something about can people be seasoned ticket holders?
Can they pour INTOSCJ Artist Series.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Yes, that's right. Yeah, we have season subscriptions and when
you buy into the subscription, you're getting five shows in
the twenty five to twenty six Broadway in Jacksonville series.
So right now MJ is going to be the last
show in our twenty four to twenty five season. So
our packages for the current season are no longer on sale,

(32:14):
but we did just launch the twenty five twenty six
Broadway and Jacksonville series and you can lock in five shows.
It's an incredible value. We have packages starting at two
hundred and thirty two dollars and that equates to about
forty six dollars per show, and season subscribers get an

(32:35):
array of benefits. They get priority access to seatings, ticket
exchanges discounts on more productions and it's just a great
experience to come out to the theater and support a
good cause. We also have the option to elevate your

(32:58):
experience by becoming VIP Theater member. With that you get
premium seeding and orders during intermission, and that contribution helps
us to bring these blockbusters year after year and it
goes back and supports the college. We also as the

(33:23):
fundraising arm of Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation, we
support student scholarships and make art accessible to the community.
