Speaker 1 (00:00):
Go to Sports Break, the Husker buzz Edision, well our
Big Red Insider Sean Callahan live and Lincoln Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Okay Shawana, here comes Dylan Riyola down the road on crutches.
Dana Holkerson said that he left for New York yesterday. Now,
why would Dylan Royola leave for New York on a Tuesday?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah, I don't know the full details, but you know,
I believe it was to go have surgery with the
specialist out there. And that's not uncommon. We've seen Husker
athletes go to Germany for sports hernia surgery. So you know,
on a deal like this, I mean, they've had athletes
go to Doctor Andrews in Alabama. You know they're going
to go to the best specialists out there for you know,
(00:41):
something like this with Dylan Riola. So I'm sure the
doctor he's going to or whatever he's going out there for,
you know, their work with the best that there is
to get this thing repaired and he should be back.
It sounded like within three months fully recovered.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
So you being one of one point nine million orthopedic
surgeons in the state of Rasco right now who are
convinced they know the extent of the injury. What is
the extent of the injury. It was not a compound fracture.
It seems like it was more of a hairline fracture
to what it seems just based on what we've seen.
What do you know about the extent of the injury.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah, he's able to put weight on it and a
walk and he tried to go back in the game.
So it didn't you know, the details are obviously limited
at this point, but I don't think it was as
bad as it could have been. I mean, it was
in this season. But you just hope now the recovery
for him with this will be what they say and
(01:35):
he can be back in the offseason in the spring
ready to go. But yeah, now for t Tayler Thief,
you burn the red shirt and you get the opportunity
here with three more games to start, and he will.
He's played in three on the year, so with the
bowl games, Tief is going to get seven games the
playing time this year and three of them will be start.
(01:55):
So that's we're going to have a pretty good sample
size of him here over the next month.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, we're to find out what he can do and
how much maturity he has. But you touched on this yesterday,
and I think it bears repeating. The freshman of twenty
twenty five is not the freshman of nineteen seventy five.
They come with a lot more preparation. To that extent,
can they practice like NFL teams? And what I mean
by that is you have your number one guy getting
(02:21):
a majority of the reps in practice, and you hope
your number two guy is serviceable, but you spend a
lot of time, money, and equity on your number one guy.
What have they done in preparation with TJ Latif vis
a v that now NFL model for practice?
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Well, yeah, Tej Latif gout here in December. He was
he was at Bowl practices at Fordham and so he's
almost been here a full twelve months, which you think about,
like your normal timeline for a freshman back in the
day would have been arrived in maybe June, July or August.
So you're right, he's not your typical freshman because he
you know, he's been he was. He was actually with
(02:58):
the team for one game last season and practice in
New York with them all week. But yeah, they practiced
their number two quarterback. They wrapped the number two offense.
I think the difference is you put a game plan
in obviously for Dylan, So whatever they had installed last week,
you know they had a you know this week, you
have to think the game plan is going to be
a lot different with more RPOs, maybe some zone read
(03:20):
element to it, just a few more wrinkles that we
haven't seen that are going to fit him where. You know,
when you put your game plan in, then you execute
with your one and two offense. Last week it's geared
more for Dylan Royola at that point because of you
know what he can do.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
You know what I wonder guys they're going to try
to protect him when he takes off because we saw
Dylan Riyola I take a dive repeatedly when he when
he took off run, Yeah, he didn't wait for anything
like contact and he had a backup well, Jayalen Grahamstad
is a backup for TJ. Latif Sean. Do you think
(03:54):
they're going to tell him get down when you see
the hit common or is they gonna they're gonna want
him to keep running?
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Well, I think they're just going to tell him to
be smart about it and don't take unnecessary hit. I
mean there are times where it's okay to take a hit,
but when you're in the middle, when you're running in
the middle of the field, particularly when you could have
two or three guys coming in different directions, that's when
that That's what happened to Dylan Ryll on the sack.
He had hit multiple directions on that playoff wasn't a
(04:21):
running play necessarily, but you know, you've got to be
smart about when you run up the middle of the
field and know what's coming because these are grown men.
I mean, it's really hard to run as a quarterback
and survive a season in the Big Ten Conference. We
saw what Adrian and Martinez and you know, even Tommy
Armstrong and Taylor Martinez. I mean, they took them shots
(04:43):
over their time in the league.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
What do we know about Elijah Presuett's injury status.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Well, he practiced yesterday so that was a positive. So
I think he's trending to play. But it's an ankle.
He had an ankle issue at Alabama that bothered him
and he is back to week So if that's the case,
he'll be your left and then turn a corkoran and
go back to right and turn corporates provided some great
value because of the versatility.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
And the experience. Valuable guy. Sean, thanks our big Red
