Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seana, let's visit about the five for five rule and
give us a little more backstory on what you believe
the impact will be on the roster, and in particular
Trey Taylor, who is the superstar recruit quarterback. They essentially said,
you come here, you'll start as a freshman because Calandria
will be out of eligibility. But now Calandria won't be

(00:22):
out of eligibility because of the five for five rule.
He'll be eligible to play in twenty twenty seven. What
are the real ramifications and the concerns that you have.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, that really isn't the case with Taylor. I mean, Taylor,
I think wants to have some time to learn. So
with this news, I can tell you they're happy that
Calandria will get an other year because it is a
lot of pressure to throw a true freshman out of
this big ten conference. We've seen it, you know, Bright's Underwood,

(00:52):
very good freshman, Dan Roola. You know you have some
success doing it, but it's not easy to do. So
I don't think it changes much at all. I mean,
the biggest thing to me is the financial change for
every school, for every sport. Now you have to budget,
all right, Harper, Murray and Andy Jackson could be coming
back at Berg and Riley could be coming back another year.

(01:13):
That's a lot of money. Anthony Calandria Brennan Black. You
go down the line of the football names, I mean,
there's a lot of good football players or six of them,
and you know three or four are probably higher paid
guys on the roster price in for Destic, you know,
he could potentially come back in basketball. So that to
me is the big part, is the financial element of it.

(01:34):
Like if you get these already, probably your higher paid
guys coming back another year that maybe you weren't anticipating,
schools are gonna have to make some decisions and this
will triggle down the lower sports too, you know, just
with the decisions that you have to make, like do
you want a kid back for that fifth year or
would you rather let them move on to let the

(01:56):
freshmen come in and develop, because they're not going to
change the roster size. So that's the other part here.
So your current high school seniors to be juniors to
be they're probably the biggest victim of the five or
five because the spots there are going to be squeezed
out a little bit more even more than they are
right now.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah, after this first run of individuals who have eligibility left,
it'll be I think better for high school kids to
this extent. Now we're talking in the class of twenty
twenty eight, twenty twenty nine. Because now in light of
the five for five rule, transfer rule is transfer portal
is still in place. Guys can recruit somebody and know

(02:36):
that they have five years to develop them, which could
be a better boost of high school kids coming out
in particular alignment because they need an extra year or
two to develop.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
And there have been a lot of football players here
that have had to burn that red shirt, you know,
in meaningless situations. I mean I think back to like
Harrison Beck when they had to play him for like
one game you called.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
That game series. It was one series against Kansas.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
State game and he fell down, made a play, drew
a penalty, and they won the game on Jordan Kong
and Field burned his red shirt, got to a better
Bowl game, you know. Niles Paul was a guy they
had to play early in his career. Carter Nelson, you
know right now, I mean, yeah, you can go down
the line of players that they've had to maybe burn
the red shirt on that you don't have to worry
about that silliness team or even this four game deal

(03:26):
where you'd have players refused to play the fifth game
because they were going to transfer and they wanted to
preserve the red shirt. You're not gonna have to worry about
the five game itis. As Any Staples wrote this week on.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Three, Yeah, I firmly believe this should have been implemented
years and years ago to eliminate this red shirt system that,
as you say, manages guys during games. We put this
kid in because once you're in, that burns the red
shirt regardless of how much they play. This Actually, I
think we'll also encourage kids to stay in school because
they know they essentially have five ye to get a degree.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, there's a lot of positive I mean, the age
thing is still you know then this age nineteen, he's
wonder if that will come because there are kids that
are a little bit older now they come out. You
just wonder if there's gonna be situations where that's a problem.
But I get why they did it. I mean, we're
having twenty seven year old eight year seniors now, so

(04:24):
they've got to figure this out. I also don't know
how that affects like a sport like hockey where their
system is. You know, players are sometimes twenty years old
when they get to college, so I you know, there's
some things about the eligibility thing with this age rule
that I'll be interested how that plays out as we
go through this.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
And Troy Danon gets a two hundred thousand dollars bonus
even though he didn't hire any of these coaches or
take the field or the floor one time. Now, why
don't you encourage him to donate that into the NIL fund.
Since these guys are going to get an extra year
of eligibility, you can.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Put them towards volleyball tickets, because I I'm telling you,
like when I when I've heard the amount of money
that was put down to have to get good volleyball tickets.
It's incredible. Somebody told me this last week. You had
three straight weeks when the donations are coming in. We're
over a million dollars the ticket money was donated for
volleyball tickets each week.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
How about the ones that had to unfold their chairs
back in the old coliseum. I guess they're out just
wondering about what.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
You had to put down twelve thousand, five hundred dollars
to get into the A and the B, which they
call now the one hundred and the two hundred level.
So it's for a pair, it's gonna be a twelve
k for a pair. Well, I think twelve five hundred
I believe, got you four, twenty five thousand, got you six?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Okay, Well, I hope people enjoy it. I hope to
keep winning because it's a transactive deal. Now it's not
dear old Nebraska you it's transactive. All right, big guy, Thanks,
have a good fourth of July. Well, now the fourth
of July weekend is coming up next. We'll talk to
you on the third. How about that?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
All right, guys, thank you,
