(00:00):
The Huskar Buzz edition with Sean Callahan. Why I've been licking the spring practice
and spring game wrap up ears JimRose. All Right, Well, the
first thing that the fans want toknow about is the injuries and did the
spring other than the last two kidsthat Matt Rule referenced in the postgame news
conference, Shano, what about injuries? Anybody serious? Anybody possibly lost for
(00:23):
the fall or delayed for the fall. No, just the two guys in
the game, Demetri Spilt wide receiverand then black Hill at corner left the
game with knee injuries. Don't knowthe outlook on either if it takes them
out for twenty twenty four, ifit's a three month type thing, you
know, so we'll have to findout more. As MRI's happened over the
(00:45):
weekend here, you know, theykept a lot of key guys that were
that could have probably played in agame out of contact this spring, like
Armiir Johnson and Gay Bourbon junior MalachiColeman. They're smart with those players.
Turner Corcoran's won that his injury hesuffered last year. It's going to go
(01:06):
deep into the summer and even intothe early parts of the season, So
that's one player. His outlook fornext year doesn't look great, but he
can't actually red shirt if he'd wantto go that route. So Turner Corkoran
could theoretically be available to play fourgames next year, but it's kind of
out of the mix at this pointas he recovers from the injury he suffered
(01:27):
in his foot a year ago.All right, let's visit about Dylan Riyola.
I think anybody who watched it cameaway impressed in a lot of ways.
He looks like a quarterback out there. He moves like a quarterback.
He's got a nice arm, butthe bullets weren't flying Sean Oh, So
you to your point of view, what is the best takeaway from Riola from
(01:49):
the game on Saturday, Well, just his arm, talent, his feel
for the game, the way heexecuted the offense for a person for the
very first game Memorial Stadium, andlooked at they were still rushing him.
I mean he's still but yeah, you're right. He didn't have Tyro Robinson
or nash Hot Mocker, a realbig ten defense coming at him with Nebraska's
(02:12):
key players, but those throws thathe made were big time throws they they
haven't had, you know, eventhe ball to Jayalen Lloyd. The way
the ease of that pass that hemade was something special. But I thought
the situational underneath throws, the strikefor twenty two yards to John Bullock in
a window of three defenders, thetwo point conversion play in the corner of
(02:34):
the end zone. I mean, there were a lot of moments you're like,
wow, I mean to start thegame out fifteen of twenty war sixteen
to twenty one for two thirty nineand two touchdowns, I mean, that's
that's about as good as you couldhave drawn up for a first half performance
in the spring game. Yeah,I agree, the two point converging pass
was the most impressive one to me. But that said, and you pointed
(02:54):
it up, no blitzing. Reallythe top guys weren't rushing him, And
we'll see and those first seven gamesnext year, you're not going to see
a lot of really great defenses. So everything is shaping up to see him
incrementally grow and improve. He's goingto go down to Kansas City and work
with Mahomes and his trainer. Whatis that about? What what can he
(03:15):
get out of that? Why ishe doing it? Well, you know
Patrick, I mean Dylan Rayelo hasworked back with Patrick Mahomes' trainer in Kansas
City, you know, over thecourse of his career, you know,
at least over the last year.So it's not like this is new for
him. Uh, and quarterbacks seekout private instruction and training. But yeah,
(03:38):
Dylan will be down in Kansas Cityfor a couple of days I'm sure
in the month of May. AndBobby Stroop is the trainer down there that
Mahomes works with that lives in KansasCity. And you know, obviously Dominic's
background the NFL and Dylan's talent asa quarterback. You know, a quarterback
like a trainer like Bobby Strope ismore than happy to probably work with the
(04:00):
quarterback like Dylan Royals. Yeah, what an advantage for Nebraska to have a
quarterback like that to go down there. But it's not uncommon for quarterbacks to
seek private instruction. The month ofMay. The month of May is kind
of the one month where they're offcampus and they're on their own and you
can do especially the quarterback, youcan go out there and get some extra
(04:20):
work in. So that's an importantclarification, He's just going to be down
there a little bit because I thinkmost Nebraska fans and I'm sure the coaches
would prefer he be up here doingsome unsupervised workouts with his wide receivers.
But it's shut down in May.They send the whole team home once Finals
week hits and they're done. Theplayers get three to four weeks off before
(04:46):
they report back in the first weekof June, so there is no activity.
And that's every college football team inthe country. The month of May
is the only time the kids geta real opportunity plug for a few weeks,
and then when they return in June, they don't leave Lincoln theoretically until
after January. Sean, Just sothe voluntary, involuntary workouts is what you're
(05:11):
saying. Just under a minute, leapt as we wrap it up before and
you obviously will be on here withus whenever news breaks, but for the
regularly schedule buzz as we take abreak now for the summer. When you
look back to one year ago, here we are Matt rules spring practice year
two over quarterbacks aside overall assessed theprogram compared to last year. I just
(05:32):
think that the speed in development thathe's added to the program, the athletic
ability and the speed, and thennow some of the development we're seeing.
Jalen Lloyd is a great example.Nobody wanted jale Lloyd out of high school
really as a football player. Theyall thought it his track guy. He
was days away from being a trackcommit. They believed in him. Solved
the ability, developed it, andnow look at Jaleen Lloyd. And there
(05:56):
were coaches in the Omaha metro thatwhispered to me that questioned, Wow,
new guys really taking Jalen Lloyd Andlook at Jayalaen Lloyd now. So I
think you got to really tip yourhat to the staff with the development and
what they've been able to do withsome of these guys already, especially the
new look at ja Corey Barney. You brought this kid in from me.
So they've been really good at identifyingand developing early, which is what you
(06:18):
really want to see. Sean. Thanks, I have a great summer.
We'll be talking, I'm sure betweennow and UH spring and the fall camp.
