Speaker 1 (00:01):
It is Warning News Onward now too, Sports Brief The
Husker buzz Edision with Sean Callahan Live and Likencoln Rosie.
Okay Satner. Now, before we get shout out to the
transfer portal, you got to talk about this social media
f five tornado that came across Nebraska last night when
somebody in his basement in Ralston on the various media
(00:24):
sides declared that Dylan Riola is transferring out and it
had gotten Riola to Riola, which prompted him to put
up an Instagram posts in null. I'm not what do
you make?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, that's the time of year we're in right now.
And I mean actually, there was a credible media outlet
that did just kind of had a front page picture
everything in a report that said we're hearing, but we're
possibly hearing, but we think we're hearing that maybe this
is something. You know, it's just like a around and
around report. But yeah, Dylan Riola, you know, first it's
(00:57):
starting Sunday. He was at the chief Scheme actually with
Husker teammates Dawson Merritt and Isaiah Mosey. Merrick's father works
for the Chiefs. They were down on the sidelines and
Arrowhead watching the Chiefs play on Sunday, and he put
a picture out with Husker players and you know, kind
of say hey, yea, everything's good. But then yesterday he
(01:20):
made a tweet to saying I'm back, nothing to worry about,
kind of calm the waters because it's just that time
of year. And I will say that agents nationally stir
this up too. There was a lot of buzz with Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Texas,
A and m you know, just with agents in that
side of the world trying to stir up the rumors
(01:40):
that you know, Dylan Royola could be looking around and
it became a big echo chamber. But yeah, nothing to
it at least right now, and the team practices today
to begin prep for Boston College.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
It doesn't say to me that it's a credible news source.
If twenty four to seven is reverberating this business. It
used to be if something you'd research it before you
put it out there, But now the mentality seems to
be I'm going to put it out there and see
if it sticks, and if it does, then people are
going to love me. In the meantime, I'll get a
(02:12):
ton of clicks out of the deal and a day
from now they'll forget that I was wrong. Is this
the new construct in social media sports reporting?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah? Unfortunately. I mean that's what you see a lot
of because there isn't really you're not really hell accountable.
I mean if you're at a certain level. I mean obviously,
if you're at the highest level of the industry, you
lose a lot of credibility. But if you're a lower
level guy that no one really knows much about and
he puts up it out and it's wrong, you know,
turn the page next day company. So yeah, that's media
(02:43):
I think in general, in terms of reports and the
ability with social media. But you know, yesterday we had
just the one big new name in the portal was
Keona Davis. Today with practice, well we'll get a better idea,
you know, if there's any more movement. But I would
think anybody that comes to practices, you know, looking to play,
and what will that defensive line look like now with
(03:06):
so many key players not available for this Bowl game.
No Jamari Butler, no James Williams, no Keyona Davis, no Kaywallan,
you go down the line. I mean there's a couple others,
but the defensive line has been and decimated in terms
of the number of players they've lost.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, in fact, looking ahead to next year, of Nebraska's
twelve most used interior d linemen and edge rushers, nine
of them won't be around for twenty twenty five. And
Davis logged ninety snaps this past year. Not not a
lot in November, but this was a regular You've got
out there for ninety snaps, You're out there for a
lot of football. So obviously the transfer portal has to
(03:44):
yield some guys for Nebraska unless you're comfortable with the
people that are in the program.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Keona Davis was one of the best freshmen in the
class in terms of defensive guys especially. They were really
high on him, brought him in late, but he was
directly connected to Tony White, Terrence Knighton, and even Evan
Cooper who was on the staff when they recruited him.
And guess we're all three of those guys are at
now Florida State. So I don't know if he's going
to Tallahassee, but you know, I'm sure the year that
(04:12):
he put up as a true freshman at a premium position,
he's gonna have some options. And I don't know what
drove him, but there is no d line coach yet
for Nebraska. There is still no defensive coordinator. Phillip Simpson
is now official he's going to be the defensive edge
outside linebacker coach for the Huskers and he announced that
(04:33):
on social media. And there's actually a Florida State linebacker
who's going to visit Nebraska in the coming days as well.
So that clearly looks like a Phillip Simpson move that
happened here over the last twenty four hours.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Then there are some other guys coming into all right,
we have about a minute left, Shoto. I want to
get your observation about Danny Woodhead and Frank Solich, who
are going into the College Football Hall of Fame tonight.
I don't think they'll be sitting next to each other
because that was a rift when Frank ignored Danny out
of high school, which is a big mistake. But talk
about those two guys in their impact in college football
(05:08):
in the last generation.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah. I can still remember, honestly in two thousand and
three seeing Danny Woodhead on campus in the summer, you know,
coming to camp and Barney Cotton was actually with them
at the Nebraska Union walking around having lunch that day.
I still remember that I was a very young version
of myself covering Nebraska back then. But you know, I
think it worked out for the best for him. I
(05:29):
don't know if Danny Wood had would have gotten the
opportunity to be Danny Woodhead at Nebraska. You know, going
to Shatteron State allowed him the repetitions to do what
he did. You know, at Nebraska you have Brandon Jackson
here in the same recruiting class, who was a second
round draft pick. You got a lot of other good
running backs, and you know, he obviously would have played here.
(05:50):
But I think going to Shatteron State allowed him to
really be who he was because even then, guys, he
wasn't drafted, I mean he was. He had to do
what he did as an undraft did player in the nflckable.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I saw him as a Jake Sharp who stand out
at KU, a kick returner. It's just a shame he
didn't come to Nebraska. Congratulations of both them. You met
our Husker insider Sean Callahan every morning
