Speaker 1 (00:00):
To a sports Breeve now Husker Buzz edition with our
Big Red insider, Sean Callahan Live and Lincoln Rosie.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Okay, SHAWNA, let's talk recruiting. This week it was National Signing.
It's the start of National Signing Week for all sports
except football that's in December, and you've become a very
rich man on recruiting information over the last generation or so,
which has made you almost a celebrity superstar in this area.
Talk about football recruiting because I think it's all changed
with the transfer portal, It's not nearly what it once was.

(00:28):
But where is Nebraska and recruiting right now? What does
it all mean?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Well, they have just eleven commits, small number I've ever
seen in the history of recruiting classes from Nebraska by far,
and a lot of that is how they want to
manage and spend their money on recruits and the roster spots.
But I think Nebraska obviously is you know, going to
focus you know, five, six, seven key spots in this

(00:53):
class to the portal, and then that doesn't start till January. Second.
Coaches are on the road this week for a couple
of days. Matt ruhle Be in Florida and Georgia with
daike Heel Schwartz and that's it. They won't be on
the road until January again. Because of these recruiting rules,
there's no more code visitors in December and coaches out

(01:14):
in December like it had been for decades. The portal
doesn't even open that till January. So the signing day
for football is December third. It's a couple of weeks away,
if you can believe that. Yeah, So this this twenty
twenty six high school class, it's going to be kind
of an under the radar signing and I think high
school classes everywhere for football are going to be near

(01:35):
the bang it used to be, because the portal on
January second is going to be where all the fireworks are.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
I have to tell you, if we get when you
look at Daikeiel Shorts, that might be the greatest name
in the history of Nebraska football right there, Okay, right
up there. I mean wonder Mons has endured through the years,
and then Isaiah Hip of course, but daike Heel Shorts,
the receivers coach, there's no better name. Too bad he's
not a because if he was a player, it'd be

(02:02):
even better. All Right, So football and recruiting and the
transfer portal and NIL is still a huge, huge challenge,
and we're seeing more and more come out about this.
Donald Trump said we need a salary cap in college football.
He needs to not think out loud because he that's
a thoughtless observation to this point. But where is Nebraska competitively?

(02:24):
Matt Ruhle spoke about it during his contract extension conversation, says,
I'm no longer worried about NIL funding. What does that
mean to you?

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, it's hard because I know people heavily tied within
the NIL world and they don't really know for sure
what he meant by that. Because the revenue shares, the
revenue share, Nebraska is fully funded in that, which is
roughly fifteen million dollars of the twenty and a half
million this year. But then on top of that, you know,
what can you do moving forward with the legitimate NIL

(02:53):
which has to be approved by a third party clearinghouse,
And to date there have not been these major deals
have really passed through the clearinghouse because everybody frontload paid
their roster before July first, before revenue sharing, So we
still don't really know what January December is going to
bring when you have to re sign your players, and

(03:13):
then obviously you have to go out and find some
new portal players because that's where the big money is
going to come around on these new rules. But obviously
he feels very confident about where they're at, what their plan,
and that Pat Stewart the new general manager. You know,
I think when you look at teams around the country,
there's five, six or seven teams that are going to
just be ahead of everybody with how they spend. Oregon obviously,

(03:34):
Ohio State, Texas Tech's and that camp. Miami's in that camp,
probably A and M and a few others, and I
think there's a next group in Nebraska. Probably be in
that next group. I don't know. A and M has
an oil guy that or Texas Tech excuse me as
an oil contributor that literally just do whatever it takes
and you know, lose millions of dollars of his own

(03:56):
spend millions of his own money with no return on
the investment other than helping the school. Nebraska is the
Peace family who has done an outstanding job, but it's
not quite to the level you see like a Phil
Knight or what we see at Texas.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Tech right Mark Cuban in Indiana.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Now our huscar insider Sean Calaham of a buzz every
morning here in the afternoon, buzz with Emory It's sucks
a little after five on KFA b

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
